African Copper is an international exploration and development company. At its Mowana Mine Property in Botswana, total open pit proven and probable reserves have been estimated at 14.8 million tonnes grading 1.11% copper. Construction of the project began in 2006 and significant progress was made in 2007. Production is scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2008, which will transition African Copper from a junior exploration company to a copper producer. The Company also has a 100% interest in the Matsitama exploration concession, which has ten high-priority, drill-ready and 35 lower priority targets.

The Company is incorporated in England and Wales, and its ordinary shares are tri-listed on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange, the Toronto Stock Exchange ("TSX") and the Botswana Stock Exchange ("BSX"). The ordinary shares trade on AIM and the TSX under the symbol "ACU", and on the BSX under the symbol "African Copper". African Copper has approximately 146.9 million shares outstanding. (See Share Structure)

The Company's strategy is to grow as a base metal mining company and to provide above average returns to shareholders. Production at Mowana is expected to grow from an estimated 5,500 tonnes of copper in 2008 to an estimated 29,000 tonnes in 2012. Mowana has an estimated seven-year mine life in the open pit and it offers African Copper near-term production, with the potential for future expansion. African Copper intends to exploit this reserve while continuing to pursue exploration potential around and under the open pit, and in the Matsitama Belt.

The Company has a large land position in a favourable geological setting, which is relatively under explored at depth and laterally. There are three areas where exploration is being focused:

Near the Mowana Mine - a recent drill programme established mineralization south of the open pit.

Underground at Mowana -- at this time over 70% of the known estimated Mineral Resource base at Mowana lies outside of the open-pit boundary. This deeper predominantly sulphide mineralization may potentially be used to supplement open-pit feed but must be extracted by underground methods.

In the 3000 km2 Matsitama Belt, the Company has 10 drill-ready and highly prospective targets.

In 2007, the Company's announced mineral resource estimates of the Thakadu prospect which included an estimated 4.7 million tonnes of indicated resource grading 1.72% copper and 3.6 million tonnes of indicated resource grading 16 grams per tonne silver. In addition to the Thakadu deposit, the Company has also identified copper-gold, nickel-PGM, and zinc-lead-silver prospects worthy of further advanced exploration follow up.

      African Copper plc: Operational Update

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

View News Release in PDF Format

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Sept. 9, 2009) - African Copper plc ("African Copper" or "The Company") (AIM:ACU)(BOTSWANA:AFRICAN COPPER) is pleased to announce that its subsidiary, Messina Copper (Botswana) (Proprietary) Limited ("Messina") has recommenced operations at the Company's Mowana Mine in Botswana.

      Highlights:

      - Mining commenced and pit prepared to meet the production forecast.

      - Pit feed grades delivered to the plant +/-20% above forecast.

      - All processing plant circuits brought back to operational status.

      - Feed stockpiles being regenerated with fresh ROM ore to support sustainable plant operating campaigns.

      - Combined concentrate grade +/-12% above forecast for the period.

      - Optimization of processing circuit being coordinated with metallurgical expertise from ZCI.

As an update to the presentation given at the AGM on the 30th July 2009 and the announcement of 14th August 2009, ACU is delighted to announce that the anticipated operational start up has now been successfully achieved. The operational team on site have mobilized a new mining contractor and re-commissioned the concentrator with the assistance of an experienced team of specialist metallurgical and engineering personnel from ZCI.

The teething problems encountered during the re-start of the plant, coming out of a period of extended care-and-maintenance, were quickly identified and remedied during the period. Management now believe that the operation is well positioned to advance to steady state nameplate production through the coming quarters.

The operational key indicators derived from start up have been encouraging. The feed grade delivered from the pit from fresh ore exposure has been consistently +/-20% above the forecast feed grade of 1.2% Cu. Similarly, the early average concentrate grade produced is 26% Cu which is +/-12% above forecast. Circuit and concentrate specification will be further optimised over the coming weeks. While this news is to be welcomed, it remains too early to identify any clear trend in grades.

Chris Fredericks, Chief Executive of Africa Copper, commented:

"African Copper is delighted that operations are once again underway at the Mowana Mine. This has been achieved by the vision, tenacity and support of the major shareholder, ZCI, and the continued commitment of the operational team at the mine. African Copper now finds itself well placed to take advantage of a fundamentally improved metals market environment.

The operational team is fully focussed and committed to meeting production objectives and to deliver the optimal mining strategy. The results achieved over this short-period of time are encouraging and continue to support the ultimate goal of realising the full potential of the Company's extensive mineral assets."

African Copper gears itself up for production
      by Sunday Standard Reporter
      19.09.2009 1:18:42 P

African Copper, the Botswana–London’s AIM listed budding copper miner, said its plant machines are back to operational status as it aims to roll-out details of the full scale production for Mowana mine – in Botswana -- that have been on the makings for the past three months.

Top management of the company is expected to fly into the country early in the week in what is largely viewed as the last dress rehearsal before the big announcement scheduled for end of the month.

African Copper, a company that was be-devilled by cash problems that forced it to suspend mining operations for the first five months, got some cash injection from Zambia Copper Investments (ZCI) - marking the largest investment into Botswana by a Zambian entity. The move followed a fiercely contested bid between ZCI and Natasa mine of Australia.

This week it emerged that details relating to the full production—that are likely to inject the much needed confidence in the share price of the company -- are expected to be released to the market by end of the month.

This will be preceded by a week-long top management site visit headed by Chris Frederick, African Copper Chief Executive Officer, aimed at tightening the screws on plans that will pave-the–way towards commissioning and getting all other relevant information about the possible production capacity of the mine being “re-established before released to the market”.

The team is working on a tight schedule of releasing the information to the market by month end.

“The operational key indicators derived from the start up have been encouraging. The feed grade that has been delivered from the pit from fresh ore exposure has been consistent at plus and minus 20 percent above the forecast grade of 1.2 percent copper,” the company said.

Further, the company has indicated that mining has already started and they are doing ‘pit preparation to meet the production forecast”.

In June, African Copper told the Sunday Standard that it was “planning to start mining operations in the next three months” after it got an injection of US $10 million from its ZCI as part of a move to help the country’s budding copper miner to get off its feet. Further, African Copper sold 6,766,705 shares worth about US $ 9.9 million in a cash raising exercise that gave ZCI an interest in the organization of 82 percent stake.

The money was in addition to the extra US $ 25.4 million which it injected from the US $22 million loan facility.
“We are currently working on a new mining plan and the plan is to re-start operations within three months,” Federicks has said.

The company also de-listed from the Toronto Stock Exchange—as part of its restructuring plan -- saying that the London market would be able to serve the rest of Europe and northern America.

African Copper, which first became public in 2004 is now only listed on a London AIM and Botswana Stock Exchange and is operating Mowana Mine which is about 100 kilometers west of Botswana’s second largest city, Francistown.

      African Copper to build township
      by Sunday Standard Reporter
      11.10.2009 8:23:44 P

Embolden by better-than- expected copper grades, African Copper said Friday that it is planning to build a township along the Francistown-Maun highway as it positions itself to move from being an explorer to a miner.

The Botswana-AIM listed outfit ,whose operations at Mowana mine—some 130 kilometers west of Francistown—have been under care and maintenance since February following the collapse of base metal prices said it was planning to put a township at the settlements of Mosetse and Dukwi. They are expected to start production soon.

“We are talking to the relevant authorities and the plan is that we have to increase the number of staff houses at the plot that we have been allocated,” Acting General Manager of Mowana mine, Toindepi Muganyi, told Sunday Standard.

Under the plan, the township will be replete with the modern amenities and the high street facilities, such as banks, supermarkets, English medium schools for mine employees’ children, among others.

So far, the mine has 50 units of high cost houses at Mosetse village that are expected to house senior staff of the mine. The new development, which is totally the opposite of the original plan of ferrying employees from Francistown, is being motivated by a number of factors.

Some of the factors include better grades and the belief that the ore body is bigger than originally thought.
Some of the factors include the move to try to reduce chances of mine employees being involved in fatal road accidents. Just last month, one of the senior managers at the mine, Mack Zulu, lost his life along the Francistown- Maun road going to work.

Muganyi re-affirmed African Copper position that “it is now seeing an upside” in the copper grades which, according to the new valuations, are 20 percent better than originally thought.
The mine is likely to be commissioned before the end of the year, which will pave the way for the production of 20,000 tonnes of copper per annum—from its initial 1.5 kilometers long strike.
According to the plan, African Copper will initially concentrate on the extraction of ore in the southern tip of the pit which has an estimated 1.5 percent of copper against the pit average of 0.71 percent.

According to the current estimates, the open pit of the mine, which is 20 percent of the ore is expected to be mined in a space of seven years while the remaining part could be between 20–to-30 years. Further, there is another proven reserve some 2 kilometers north of the pit while some investigations are ongoing relating to the southern side of the pit which is also thought to be having some copper.

The pit, which covers some of the historical mining activities believed to have been done by the Europeans some 500 - 700 years ago, is also rich in gold and silver. The archeological activities run 30 meters deep and about one meter wide.

African Copper is also working on other areas as Thakadu and some other “blue sky areas” that Muganyi called the “development of another copper belt in the northern Botswana ”.
Thakadu is estimated to have 5 million tons of ore and at a greater grade of two percent. African copper also has about 4000 km2 of prospecting area covering Makala, Matsitama and Nakalakwana which has been described as the target area.

      running conditions.
The feed grade delivered from the pit from fresh ore exposure continues to be plus/minus 20% above the forecast feed grade of 1.2% Cu for the period. Since recommencing operations a total of 1,353 tonnes of concentrate have been produced at an average grade of 25% Cu. The circuit and concentrate specification is expected to be further optimised over the coming weeks.

Chris Fredericks, Chief Executive of Africa Copper, commented:

'This is a further major milestone achieved by our operational team at Mowana. We remain committed to meeting production objectives and to continue to deliver on expectations. We are delighted with the results achieved over this short period which continue to show a positive trend on previous commissioning performance and move the Company a step closer towards realising nameplate production.'

      African Copper Plc: Operational Update

View News Release in PDF Format

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - May 4, 2010) - African Copper Plc ("ACU" or "the Company") (AIM:ACU)(BOTSWANA:AFRICAN COPPER), the AIM-listed copper producer and exploration company, currently focused on Botswana is pleased to announce an operational update on its flagship copper producing Mowana Mine.

As previously reported, ACU had decided to purchase mobile crushing units in order to bypass the Secondary and Tertiary Crushing Plant which had been hindered by equipment breakdown and adverse weather conditions. The Company can now announce that these units have been purchased and commissioned, and are now being brought up to full capacity. Engineering consultants engaged in April have commenced the study for the redesign of the Secondary and Tertiary Plant.

In addition, the Company is finalising specifications of the wet tailings facility with the consulting engineers. The Environmental Management Plan for wet tailings disposal was submitted to the Botswana Government's Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) in April 2010 and approval is expected in May 2010. The Company has also selected the Dense Media Separation ("DMS") plant to be installed and is seeking final board approval in May 2010. The DMS plant provides a pre-concentration of copper prior to milling and flotation and is expected to have the effect of allowing mining to a lower cut-off, processing of higher grade material through the concentrator and an overall increase in the contained metal output from the Mowana mine.

Further to previous announcements, the Company has now commenced deep exploration drilling in and around the Mowana mine and significant progress has also been made to bring Thakadu, the Company's nearby copper-silver deposit, into operation. The Thakadu exploration programme has been reviewed by the DEA and a final Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) will be submitted in early May 2010 with approval expected later in the month. A Project Manager was appointed at the start of March 2010 and contract mining tenders are being conducted prior to the granting of the mining licence which is now also expected in May 2010.

Commenting, Jordan Soko, Executive Director of African Copper Plc, said, "We are pleased with the installation of the mobile crushers. The crushers are a key part of our programme of enhancements at our Mowana Mine. We believe that all these actions will significantly improve copper production at what is a high quality asset."
