BackWeb Reports Strong First Quarter 2000 Results
Growing Momentum as Internet`s Push Infrastructure Drives Revenue Growth of 117 Percent Year-Over-Year
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 26, 2000--BackWeb(R) Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), a leading provider of push for e-business solutions, today announced first quarter results for the period ending March 31, 2000. Increased demand for BackWeb`s leading push for e-business solutions across all of its core markets drove revenue growth of 117 percent over prior year and 13 percent growth over last quarter. BackWeb`s push solutions are growing increasingly popular among Global 2000 companies as an integral component of their standard e-business communications infrastructure for internal, business-to-business, and "customer facing" communications.
Revenues for the first quarter increased 117 percent to $8.9 million, from $4.1 million in the first quarter of 1999 and grew 13 percent from $7.9 million the previous quarter. Excluding amortization charges related to a previous acquisition and deferred stock compensation, net loss for the first quarter was $1.7 million, or $0.05 per diluted share, compared to a net loss of $2.5 million or $0.11 per diluted share for the same period a year earlier. Including these charges, net loss for the quarter was $2.2 million, or $0.06 per share loss compared to a net loss of $3.7 million, or $0.16 per share in the first quarter of 1999.
"During the quarter we made continued progress in establishing BackWeb`s Polite(TM) push infrastructure technology as a de facto Internet standard," said Eli Barkat, chairman and CEO of BackWeb Technologies. "This growth was driven by our continued success in the business-to-business sector, by increasing demand from existing customers, and by an aggressive effort by the Global 2000 to implement BackWeb beyond individual departments to the entire enterprise. Now more than ever, BackWeb is poised to lead the ubiquitous acceptance of push solutions to meet the demands of e-business."
First Quarter 2000 Highlights
BackWeb`s first quarter of 2000 was highlighted by new customer wins, additional ubiquity-driving relationships, major business-to-business momentum, key strategic alliances, the debut of BackWeb-powered start-ups, and a major new product release.
-- INCREASING CUSTOMER ADOPTION: Strong Q1 2000 revenues resulted
from mounting demand among both new and existing customers. New
customer wins include ADP`s Dealer Services Group, Dow Corning,
Enron Corp., Kaeser, Nationwide Builders Association, and Owens
Illinois. Also contributing to Q1 revenues were existing BackWeb
customers, including Bell Atlantic Mobile, Cisco Systems, Inc.,
Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., Goldman Sachs & Co., Hewlett-Packard
Company, Nortel Networks and SBC Communications.
-- UBIQUITY ALLIANCES: New alliances with such companies as
NEC/Packard Bell continue to drive BackWeb`s ubiquity in the
marketplace.
-- B-to-B Momentum: BackWeb made significant inroads into the B-to-B
space as SAP AG and Whomakesit.com (a B-to-B infomediary portal
for the electronics component industry), announced plans to
integrate the BackWeb infrastructure into their marketplaces as
part of a growing effort to create "proactive exchanges. Ericsson,
NEC Computers International BV, and Sage Software all announced
plans to implement BackWeb`s software to proactively deliver
critical, time-sensitive information and materials to hundreds of
thousands of partners around the world.
-- STRATEGIC ALLIANCES: SAP AG`s BackWeb-enabled CRM solutions helped
drive BackWeb`s revenues in Q1 2000, reflecting the strength and
potential of the company`s partnership with SAP. BackWeb and
Viador, Inc.(TM) also announced a joint effort to allow Viador`s
E-Portal Suite(TM) customers to transform their enterprise portals
into proactive, personalized sources of current and vital
information. Cable & Wireless and BackWeb also jointly announced
that the global telecommunications group will offer BackWeb
solutions to its largest multinational accounts.
-- START-UPS BUILDING ON BACKWEB PUSH: Two new start-ups debuted in
Q1 that feature businesses driven by BackWeb technology:
Deliverex, a delivery exchange service for digital content, and
Adsavers.com, a pay-per-view Internet advertising company.
-- NEW PRODUCTS: BackWeb Sales Accelerator 2.0, the next generation
of BackWeb`s popular solution for empowering the sales chain with
mission-critical communication, delivery and feedback
capabilities, debuted with enhancements for business-to-business
environments.

Hi,
Seq. Wachstum von 13% hätte etwas besser ausfallen können. Umsatz und Verlust m.E.
in Ordnung.
Barkat: "Push is the natural way to integrate wireless and the web"

IBM Leverages BackWeb`s Polite Push
(04/25/00, 4:52 p.m. ET) By Stuart Glascock, TechWeb
IBM is making use of "polite push" technology from BackWeb Technologies to send updates to subscribed PC customers and build customer loyalty, the companies said.
Polite push allows companies to send information only when network bandwidth is available, so that there is no effect on other network applications. A multimedia flash on the user`s screen serves as notification that an update has arrived.
"Our use of BackWeb to frequently touch customers is a real competitive advantage," said Nick Pratt, manager of Internet marketing for IBM`s Personal Systems Group. Updating customers regularly frees them from having to visit the website to retrieve product, sales, and promotion information, according to IBM (stock: IBM).
Another large customer deploying BackWeb`s polite push is San Jose, Calif.-based Cisco Systems (stock: CSCO), which uses it to send alerts to 11,000 salespeople informing them of new products and promotions.
San Jose-based BackWeb (stock: BWEB) began promoting polite push technology last November, with the launch of its Proactive Web initiative. It`s meant to address the big problem associated with early push technology: the drop-off in performance on networks choked with pushed data.

Cable & Wireless To Resell BackWeb Software
(02/25/00, 2:17 p.m. ET) By Bob Wallace, InformationWeek
International telecom carrier Cable & Wireless next week will unveil a deal to provide push software from BackWeb Technologies to its top multinational customers to help them better distribute information across their intranets.
After giving its account teams time to learn about the software, Cable & Wireless expects to start selling it in April, with the possibility of using the package as part of a formal Cable & Wireless branded service in the future.
"The future for this software would have to be as part of a branded service we`d offer to our customers, and I don`t see anything that would keep us from doing that," said John Cobb, director of customer development at Cable & Wireless.
Cobb did not provide any details on timing, pricing, or packaging.
BackWeb said its Polite suite of push products lets companies send information only when network capacity is available. The vendor also offers tools that instantly alert recipients to the arrival of time-sensitive information, while a reporting function confirms that end users have received the information.
"I see a huge demand for this software as a way for companies to push critical and updated information from their intranets to field sales forces so perhaps they can close deals before their competitors," said Allen Bonde, an analyst at Extraprise. "It can also help you better manage and distribute information across your intranet."
Although the BackWeb push software will initially be sold to companies served by Cable & Wireless` global accounts group, Cobb said it could possibly be sold to other customers.
The two companies will pursue joint marketing and promotion activities, according to BackWeb.

Hi Leute

Hallo!
Bin seit ca. 6 Monaten in Backweb investiert.

Hi Leute
an Buckweiser :

Interesting post from yahoo.
>>>>>>>>On 5/24/2000 San Jose Mercury reported that CSCO will buy three to five software firms before the end of year to augment its fledgling software business.
Cisco estimates the two markets it is targeting--customer service and corporate messaging --- will be worth $20 billion annual by 2003. --------
Will BWEB is a buyout target for Cisco ? BWEB`s push technology should fit to Cisco`s target? Any comments about which companys will be Cisco`s target for buyout this year? Thanks. <<<<<<<<<<<<
was meint ihr ?????

BackWeb`s Polite Push Infrastructure Selected for KPMG Consulting`s eWorkforce Solution
As Part of eWorkforce Alliance, BackWeb to Power Proactive HR Portals
SAN JOSE, Calif. and NEW YORK, June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- BackWeb(R) Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), a leading provider of push for e-business solutions, and KPMG Consulting, Inc., a leading provider of Internet integration services, today announced that BackWeb`s patented Polite(TM) push technology is a core component of KPMG Consulting`s eWorkforce Solution. In collaboration with KPMG Consulting, BackWeb is joining with three other industry leaders as part of a Strategic Alliance to create a solution that enables companies to empower their employees through proactive enterprise information delivery. EWorkforce will be sold and deployed through KPMG`s World-Class Human Resources practice. As part of the alliance, KPMG and BackWeb also will pursue joint sales opportunities for the eWorkforce Solution.
BackWeb`s Polite push technology adds bandwidth-efficient Web delivery to several components within eWorkforce. This ability saves time for employees who historically have searched for needed information and offers executives an easy, powerful method to strategically communicate with their global workforce. eWorkforce -- which also incorporates technology from DataChannel, Oblix and Interlynx Technologies -- gives employees access to self-service applications for communications, administration, management and learning. KPMG Consulting provides the integration and professional services required to implement the eWorkforce Solution.
"The eWorkforce strategic alliance will deliver the Web-based solution that can help market leaders reduce administrative costs, improve employee productivity, and support business growth across geographical and functional boundaries," said Ray Zaso, managing director for KPMG Consulting`s World- Class Human Resources Solutions. "BackWeb proactively delivers HR content directly to the desktop. This rapid communication and delivery component assists in providing accurate, timely information to the employee, and in turn can benefit the enterprise."
The BackWeb Advantage for eWorkforce
BackWeb delivers the Polite push advantage to four core components of eWorkforce:
-- Employee HR Portal. With BackWeb, customers can create proactive HR
portals that automatically send customized information and services to
their employees.
-- Entitlements and Access Privileges. With BackWeb, companies can target
content toward specific groups or individuals. In addition, BackWeb`s
closed-loop reporting capabilities allow companies to track how users
receive and interact with critical content.
-- Content Aggregation. BackWeb enables automated, proactive delivery of
content from a company`s HR portal or anywhere in the enterprise where
data is stored and distributed. This allows eWorkforce customers to
efficiently leverage existing information.
-- Content Delivery. Because BackWeb uses only idle network bandwidth,
employees automatically receive even media-rich content with no effect
on the performance of other network applications such as email and
browsing. As a result, companies hosting employee portals will be able
to easily deliver audio and video files, slide presentations and other
sophisticated multimedia content -- even over a dial-up connection.
BackWeb`s attention management tools -- including multimedia Flashes
that automatically appear on the user`s screen -- instantly alert
employees to the arrival of new or time-sensitive information.
"Our collaboration with KPMG Consulting and the other eWorkforce alliance members is an important step forward in our effort to create truly proactive portals powered by the Internet`s de facto push infrastructure," said Eli Barkat, chairman and CEO of BackWeb Technologies. "Together we are transforming the notion of what a portal is, and heightening its value to the enterprise and to the employee."
Announced today, the KPMG eWorkforce Solution offers a role-based enterprise information portal, the integration of Web-based HR, payroll and benefits applications, proactive and automated delivery of content and applications, and the potential to deploy other best-of-breed business solutions. The eWorkforce Solution spans consulting through integration services and is deployed through KPMG`s World-Class Human Resources practice.
