      Husky crowned top oil producer

      Bonnie Chen

      Monday, November 19, 2007

Readers of influential Canadian monthly magazine Oilweek have selected Husky Energy - owned by Hutchison Whampoa (0013) chairman Li Ka-shing - as Producer of the Year.
Husky Energy got the top once before, in 2002. It ranked fourth last year. Oilweek, published since in 1948, pointed out that Husky's performance outshone many of its peers.

Total revenue grew to C$12.7 billion (HK$101.54 billion) from C$10.3 billion, while total assets jumped to C$17.9 billion from C$15.7 billion and return on equity rose to 31.8 percent.

In the second quarter, Husky produced averaged 379,100 barrels of oil equivalent per day, up 10 percent year on year. Hutchison shares fell 4.6 percent last Friday to HK$88.15.

      NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Husky Energy to shift money from natural gas projects in 2008

      Washington (Platts)--13Dec2007
      Canada's Husky Energy, which set a C$3.7 billion (US$3.65 billion) 2008
capital budget on Thursday, said it plans to shift money next year from
natural gas to such "higher return areas" as enhanced oil recovery and
      conventional and heavy oil development.

The Calgary-based company said the planned budget will allow it to
maintain production in western Canada and supports its ongoing exploration and
major project development in oil sands, offshore eastern Canada and
      internationally.

"Our 2008 capital expenditure program concentrates on medium and long
term project development and is approximately 28% above our forecast for
2007," Husky President and CEO John Lau said in a statement. "The company's
strategy is to focus on growth and high return projects offshore [eastern]
Canada, China and Indonesia as well as enable the company to move forward with
its integrated bitumen development at Sunrise."

Husky said that given the current low natural gas price environment,
capital expenditures for natural gas development will be allocated to higher
return areas, particularly in enhanced oil recovery and in conventional and
heavy oil development. The exploration expenditure of $170 million will be
spent on high impact opportunities in British Columbia and shallow depth
opportunities in Alberta, the company said.

Husky said 2007 production is expected to average approximately 380,000
barrels of oil equivalent per day reflecting a reduction in natural gas
development and divestitures in western Canada.

For the year 2008 production guidance, Husky estimates production of
      385,000 to 410,000 boe/d.

Light oil and natural gas liquids production is estimated to be 139,000
      to 148,000 b/d; medium oil production is estimated to be 28,000 to 29,000 b/d;
heavy oil/bitumen production is estimated to be 114,000 to 124,000 b/d; and
natural gas production is estimated to be 625,000 to 655,000 Mcf/d.

      HUSKY ENERGY INC.

      TSX: HSE

      Dec 17, 2007 12:00 ET
Husky Energy Inc.: Formal Agreement on White Rose Expansion Includes Equity, Benefits and Super Royalty
ST. JOHN'S, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR--(Marketwire - Dec. 17, 2007) - Newfoundland and Labrador has officially entered a new era of oil and gas development in the province by signing a formal agreement with Husky Energy (TSX:HSE), Petro-Canada and the province's energy corporation to develop the White Rose Expansion oil fields.

"Our government is particularly proud to join into this equity partnership with Husky Energy and Petro-Canada," said Premier Williams. "These two companies have consistently demonstrated their faith in the future of the oil and gas industry in Newfoundland and Labrador, and we thank them for their commitment to working with the province in moving the industry forward. This agreement is another step in our government's approach to resource development that balances the needs of the province with those of our industry partners. It is truly a great feeling to be a part of this prosperous new era in Newfoundland and Labrador, and to be full partners in our oil and gas industry. I look forward to building on this partnership and those that lie ahead."

The final agreement was announced in St. John's this afternoon by Premier Williams, Ruud Zoon, vice president of Husky Energy's east coast operations, Alan Brown, East Coast Canada regional manager, Petro-Canada, and Ed Martin, President and CEO of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro and the province's energy corporation. The agreement formalizes an agreement in principle reached in September of this year. The terms of the agreement apply to lands around the original White Rose Development including North Amethyst, West White Rose and South White Rose Extension. The current terms of the original White Rose development remain unchanged.

"We are very pleased to have reached this agreement with the Province and we look forward to working with our new equity partner, the province's energy corporation. This agreement gives us clarity, stability and fiscal certainty, and will allow us to advance the tiebacks in a timely manner," said John Lau, President and Chief Executive Officer of Husky Energy. "Development of the satellite tie-ins is a positive step for the future of the White Rose development and will provide significant opportunities for the proponents, their shareholders, and the people of Newfoundland and Labrador."

"Our equity stake, super royalty of 6.5 per cent on top of the 30 per cent in the generic royalty regime, and the fact that all work that can be done in the province will be done here, ensure we are getting maximum value from this resource," said the Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Minister of Natural Resources. "We are excited about this new era where by the province is fully participating in the development of our rich natural resources."

The companies estimate the project will require 9.6 million person hours of work over its lifetime. Approximately 93 per cent or 9 million of those hours will be completed in Newfoundland and Labrador. Some of the work has already begun. The companies estimate first oil from the project in the fourth quarter of 2009.

This satellite development is an important milestone for Newfoundland and Labrador. In addition to developing new fields, the province's oil and gas industry is economically extending the life of a maturing field by building on existing infrastructure. This means more value from this project for everyone involved.

Husky Energy is a Canadian based, integrated energy and energy-related company headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. Husky Energy is publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol HSE.

Husky Energy "neutral," target price reduced

      Monday, December 17, 2007 11:50:04 AM ET
      Credit Suisse

NEW YORK, December 17 (newratings.com) - Analysts at Credit Suisse maintain their "neutral" rating on Husky Energy Inc (HSE.TOR), while reducing their estimates for the company. The target price has been reduced from C$46 to C$45.

In a research note published this morning, the analysts mention that the 2008 price estimates for NYMEX natural gas and WTI oil have been revised from $7.50/MMBtu to $6.75/MMBtu and from $70.00/bbl to $72.50/bbl, respectively. The estimate change assumes a near-term oversupply in the North American gas market, the analysts say. Husky Energy aims to raise its capex in 2008 by 28%, Credit Suisse adds. The EPS estimate for 2008 has been reduced from C$3.25 to C$3.23.

JOHN'S, N.L. - Husky Energy Inc. (TSX:HSE) has signed up a mobile semi-submersible drilling unit for its White Rose project off the coast of Newfoundland, the Calgary-based oil and gas company announced Friday.

Husky's cost for hiring the rig is $380 million over the first three years of the contract, with provisions for two one-year extensions.

John Lau, Husky's president and CEO, said the GSF Grand Banks rig has already drilled 18 development wells for the White Rose field and will be deployed first to work on the North Amethyst satellite field.

The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board is currently reviewing Husky's development plan for the North Amethyst satellite field.

Husky also said its White Rose production vessel, the SeaRose FPSO, will go for scheduled maintenance next week - seven months sooner than expected - to clean up a buildup of sediment.

Weather permitting, the vessel will shut-in production on Jan. 23 for about two weeks.

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - As part of its overall plan to boost development and exploration drilling off the east coast of Newfoundland, Husky Energy Inc. (TSX:HSE) said Tuesday it would up production from the offshore oilfields near its White Rose project.

The Calgary-based company said it will increase drilling on White Rose to increase reservoir recovery and production, bringing White Rose satellite fields into production in late 2009 or early 2010.

Husky and its White Rose partner Petro-Canada have reached a rig sharing agreement with Norwegian oil company StatoilHydro in bringing the Henry Goodrich, a harsh environment semi-submersible drilling rig, to the Newfoundland and Labrador offshore.

The rig will operate in the Canadian East Coast this summer for 24 to 30 months, with Husky getting its services for 17 months. Husky has also hired the GSF Grand Banks rig for three years to drill in the region.

"We are very pleased to partner with StatoilHydro and Petro-Canada in bringing the Henry Goodrich back to the Newfoundland and Labrador waters," said John Lau, president and CEO of Husky.

"Securing this rig gives Husky the flexibility to advance the White Rose subsea tieback program and drill some exciting exploration prospects in the Jeanne d'Arc basin."

In December, the provincial government formally agreed to extend White Rose, a deal that gives the province a five per cent equity stake in the expansion and contains a super royalty component of up to 36.5 per cent after payout and when oil trades above US$50 per barrel.

The agreement marked the second time Newfoundland gained an equity in the offshore oil sector. In August, Williams announced the province had acquired a 4.9 per cent equity share in Hebron.

The White Rose field is a core asset for Husky, which operates the project and has a 72.5 per cent working interest. Petro-Canada holds 27.5 per cent.

First oil from White Rose, on the eastern end of the Jeanne d'Arc Basin, about 350 kilometres southeast of St. Johns, was reached in November 2005.

The field is made up of the North, West and South Avalon pools. Initial development has focused on the South Avalon Pool, which is believed to contain between 200 million to 250 million barrels of recoverable oil.

White Rose is being developed with a floating production, storage and offloading vessel, with total capital costs of about $2.35 billion for the project.

The April contract for oil on the New York Mercantile Exchange gained 85 cents to US$108.75 a barrel after going as high as US$109.72 on Tuesday.

In its release, Husky said it will use the Henry Goodrich and the GSF Grand Banks to drill infill wells and injector wells to boost production at the existing White Rose oil pool and develop nearby deposits.

In a separate agreement, Husky said it has reached a deal with StatoilHydro to take part in the Mizzen exploration well in the Flemish Pass basin. Under the deal, Husky will have a 35 per cent working interest in the well, which will be drilled later this year.

"Securing the Henry Goodrich rig and partnering with StatoilHydro in the Mizzen exploration well demonstrates Husky's long-term commitment to Newfoundland and Labrador," said Lau. "We have confidence in this region and look forward to continuing our good working relationship with StatoilHydro."

Meanwhile, the Henry Goodrich drill rig is also scheduled to drill a production and a water injection well in the Terra Nova oilfield in late 2008 or early 2009 to increase production and oil recovery.

Husky holds a 12.51 per cent interest in the Terra Nova oilfield, which is operated by Petro-Canada.

Husky, controlled by Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing, has heavy oil and natural gas interests in Western Canada, major East Coast operations and operates a string of Husky-branded gasoline stations, mainly in the West.

The company is also advancing the Tucker oilsands project in northern Alberta and explores and develops energy projects off China and Indonesia in Southeast Asia.

Husky also acquired a major refinery in Ohio and has a joint venture oilsands business with BP, the British-based oil giant.

In trading Tuesday on the TSX, Husky closed up 63 cents at $42.57. Petro-Canada shares were up $1.04 at $47.05.

Husky Energy “sector perform,” target price raised
      03/13/08 - Peters & Co
NEW YORK, March 13 (newratings.com) – Analyst Kam S Sandhar of Peters & Co maintains his "sector perform" rating on Husky Energy Inc (HKE). The target price has been raised from $44 to $46.

In a research note dated March 11 and published yesterday, the analyst mentions that the company has declared its 2008 plans for the East Cost development programme, since it has contracted two rigs, the Henry Goodrich and the GSF Grand Banks, in partnership with Petro-Canada and StatOil. During 2008, Husky Energy would focus on the ongoing development of the North Amethyst field, scheduled to come online in late-2009, the analyst says. The company has robust financial flexibility, which it can use going forward to improve the limited organic production growth in its WCSB business or/and internationally, Peters & Co adds

      geiler monolog in diesem thread.
