Throughout the difficult downturn, International Rectifier Corporation had maintained its market leadership and invested in new technology to position itself for the current downdraft in the market with a stronger proprietary product platform.

With increased concerns about rising energy prices and a weakening global economy, we believe IRF is well positioned to supply increasing power management content in a wide variety of applications.

Exposure to the weak wireless handset and desktop PC markets accounted for about 8 % of sales. In addition, no single customer accounts for more than five percent of IRF’s revenues.

IRF has a strong balance sheet. At the end of the December quarter IRF held $835 million in cash ($12.74 per share)

Based on the earnings estimates, IRF is trading at 12 Times F2002 earnings and a PEG of 0.45.

We believe that IRF is undervalued and the company stands out in the semiconductor universe with its potential to continue to report strong results in a difficult market environment.

International Rectifier Q3 EPS beats expectations


EL SEGUNDO, Calif., April 26 (Reuters) - International Rectifier Corp. (NYSE:IRF - news), a maker of semiconductors that regulate electricity flows, on Thursday reported third-quarter earnings that beat analysts expectations and said it expects June quarter revenues to drop 7-14 percent below March quarter levels.

El Segundo, Calif.-based International Rectifier reported third-quarter net income of $47.9 million or 73 cents per share on revenues of $276 million, vs. pro forma net income of $21.7 million or 38 cents per share on revenues of $198 million in the same quarter a year ago.

The consensus estimate among analyst polled by Thomson Financial/First Call was earnings of 72 cents per share.

The company said it was revising its outlook due to weakness in multi-market products. It said it now anticipates June-quarter revenues will be 7 percent to 14 percent below the March-quarter level.

It added that fiscal 2002 revenues are anticipated to grow by 20 percent to 25 percent, rather than at the company`s previous target of 25 percent to 30 percent.
