Wie in dem Threat Corels Zukunft positiv? bereits angesprochen, halte ich diese Aktie für stark überverkauft. Hier noch einmal das wichtigste.

Meine Gründe für Corel:

Die Finanzierungsschwierigkeiten halte ich nicht für so drastisch, da Corel bislang in den letzten Quartalen profitabel gearbeitet hat und die Schwierigkeiten wohl hauptsächlich mit der geplatzten Fusion mit Borland/Imprise zusammenhängen. Die Finanzspritze dürfte langfristig finanziert werden können! ich habe das Gefühl, daß hier durch einige Analysten vieles hochgespielt wird.

Die Linuxdistribution ist der Hit für den Normalanwender. Ich hab mir das auf der Cebit ausführlich zeigen lassen und kannte ja vorher auch schon andere Linuxdistributionen. Hinzu kommt, daß Corel jetzt auch endlich eine breite Distribuion durch den Handel schafft. Das Corel Linux ist eigentlich inzwischen überall erhältlich (ich schließe mal von Deutschland auch auf die anderen Märkte). Der Erfolg ist für mich ersichtlich, man beachte in diesem Zusammenhang die Aktion von Vobis, Corel-Linux als Supersonderangebot für 79,- DM anzubieten. So etwas geht nur bei entsprechenden Umsätzen und Attraktivität des Angebotes.
Wordperfect 8 ist sogar Bestandteil der käuflichen Linuxdistribution.

Die weitere Portierung von Corel Draw 9, Photo Paint 9 sowie Ventura Publisher 8.5 geht erheblich schneller vonstatten als geplant.
Bis Ende 2000 sollen alle diese programme auf Linux portiert sein.

Corel hat sich in das WINE Projekt mit eingeklingt , was bei Erfolg Linux einen erheblichen Auftrieb geben wird. WINE ist ein Open Source Projetk, daß daran arbeitet, Dei Linuxschnittsteleln so zu gestalten, daß sie Windowskompatibel werden. Das hat man mir zear auf dercebit schon erzählt, aber jetzt weirds auch offiziell an die glocke gehängt.

Die Übernahme der Produktpalette von MetaCreations habe ich noch nicht abschließend analysiert. Ich muß mir erst noch irgendwo die Kundenbasis saugen.

Abschließend weise ich noch einmal darauf hin, daß Corel in der erstn Jahreshälfte traditionell schlechte Quartalszahlen vorlegt. Mittlerweile hat die Firma bei Analysten den Ruf, nicht einschätzbar zu sein. Corel ist schon seit Jahren so ausgelegt, daß die Profite von Innovationen sich in der zweiten Jahreshälfte niederschlagen (weiß der Geier warum das so ist).

Noch ein Wort zu den Analysten, die jetzt meinen, weil Borland Imprise geplatzt ist, wrids schwer für Corel. Das sind doch die gleichen Leute, die davor gewarnt haben, daß Borland nicht zu corel passen könnte und ide seinerzeit den Abwärtstrend ab 20 eingeleitet haben...

Ich werde weiter in hoffentlich reglmäßigen Abständen News zu Corel hier reinstellen.

Das größte plus von Corel sind die guten Programmierer
und der vorhandene und funktionierende Vertrieb (die
Podukten sind in den Regalen). IMHO wird Corel bei
einem Linux Erfolg der Renner schlechthin.

Was Anleger jetzt benötigen ist kontinuität und Manager
die mehr durch ihre Taten bestechen als durch schlechte
Finanzen.

Das Potential ist erheblich. Und wenn man sich den Kurs-
verlauf z. B. von Adobe anschaut, kann Corel DER Wert der
nächsten Jahre werden.

Corel Reverses Recent Declines on Strong Market

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Stock in slumping Canadian software developer Corel Corp. (Toronto:COR.TO - news)(NasdaqNM:CORL - news) got a much-needed boost on Tuesday that may offset the dilution from a recent financing deal.

Buoyed by bargain hunters and a strong showing for technology stocks the stock added 18 percent on the Toronto Stock Exchange, gaining 70 Canadian cents to C$4.50.

On Nasdaq, the issue edged down 1/32 to 3-1/32.

Ottawa-based Corel also announced on Tuesday a licensing deal for a Linux version of its WordPerfect 8 software, extending a November agreement with personal computer manufacturer PC Chips. Under the agreement with PC Chips affiliate Linux Technology Ltd., Corel software will be included on two Internet appliance products Linux Technology is developing.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Stock gains on Tuesday softened blows from a market thrashing on Friday and Monday as worried investors tried to gauge if the structure of a financing deal would weaken their holdings.

Under that agreement, valued at C$15 million with an option for a further C$15 million, the number of shares Canaccord Capital Corp. will receive is based on 90 percent of the average value of Corel stock over four days of trade ending on Wednesday. As Corel`s stock drops, so the number of shares Canaccord receives increases.

``Until the fourth day ends, you won`t know what the dilution is on the stock,`` said David Wright, technology analyst at BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc.

``When you don`t know how much dilution is going to be there then that`s going to have a negative impact on the stock price...based on the unemotional, mathematical calculation the stock reacted rationally.``

Corel shares, trading at C$5.70 on the Toronto Exchange before the financing deal was announced late on Thursday, slipped to a new 52-week low of C$3.72 on Tuesday before rebounding to close at C$3.80.

The three-day average trading price is presently C$4.27.

The deal, which analysts said is unusual, also includes a provision for Canaccord to receive an additional half share if the final prospectus is not filed 10 business days after the preliminary filing.

``There is a 50 percent warrant penalty on this -- the normal number is 10 percent,`` said Duncan Stewart, a Tera Capital Corp. partner who has previously held Corel stock in technology funds he manages. Stewart does not presently hold Corel stock and has no short or long positions on the share.

``It`s unusual and I suppose that the only justification for an unusual deal must be an unusual situation,`` Stewart said.

Corel faces a cash crunch after an aborted merger with California software developer Inprise/Borland Corp. (NasdaqNM:INPR - news) on May 16.

With financing now in place, Corel is expected to announce within weeks details of a plan to cut $40 million from annual expenses, which could mean hundreds of layoffs.

Also, verbesser mich jemand, wenn ich das falsch verstanden habe.

Corel muß einen 10 prozentigen Aufschlag zahlen, wenn das investierte Kapital mit 90% des Akteinwertes gegengerechnet wird. Das heißt aber auch, daß je tiefer der Kurs fällt umso mehr Aktien an den Investor gegeben werden müssen. Da diese Aktien schätzungsweeise wohl neu ausgegeben werden, spricht man hier von einer Verdünnung. Wenn der Kurs innerhalb der nächsten 10 tage noch weiter fällt, wird ein weiterer Aufschlag von 50% fllig, ungewöhnlich hoch. Das spricht dafür, daß der Investor hier ein hohes Risiko sieht und Corel in einer entsprechend schlechten Verhandlungsposition ist. Die nächsten Tage werde nauf jeden Fall unruhig. Ein kurzfristiges Investment wäre mir an dieser Stelle zu spekulativ. Langfristig glaube ich llerdings an die Story, d.h. die Produktpallette!

Wer heute Morgen zugriffen hat, der kann sich schon über
2-stellige Buchgewinne freuen. Ich konnte leider erst am
Nachmittag eine erste Position aufbauen.

Hab grade nochmal nachgeschaut. Letztes Jahr habe ich 350%
in ein paar Monaten mit Corel geschafft. Mal sehen wie es diesmal

Ist ne riskante sache, weil charttechnisch natürlcih von ner bodenbildung noch keine spur ist. Aber ich denke es sollte langsam mal wieder aufwärs gehen. Und wenn auch nur bis 6 oder 7€. Wäre immer noch ein schöner Gewinn.

Hallo, ich hab mich leider noch nicht getraut, wieder einzusteigen. Der Verlust bisher war für mich ziemlich
dramatisch, ich freue mich aber, dass es wieder aufwärts geht. Wenn sich ein stabiler Trend abzeigt und
endlich die 2Q-Zahlen und die finanzielle Situation dargelegt wird, bin ich bereit, wieder einzusteigen. Dann
habe ich eben nicht am Tiefstpunkt zugeschlagen, was solls. Alles in allem bin ich wieder optimistisch, was
den weiteren Verlauf angeht. Vielleicht trau ich mich ja schon vorher, wer weiss. Jucken tuts auf jeden Fall.
Wenn die Entscheidung bei MS gefallen ist, sehe ich eine Renaissance der Linux-Titel. Für mich ist das
ganz klar die Zukunft!!

Corel Announces Exercise Of Right To Purchase Additional Shares By Canaccord Capital Corporation
OTTAWA, CANADA--Corel Corporation (NASDAQ: CORL, TSE: COR) today announced that its ``bought deal`` agreement with Canaccord Capital Corporation has now been fixed at Cdn $30 million, at an offering price of Cdn $4.11 per share, resulting in a total of 7,299,270 common shares to be issued.

The transaction is subject to the receipt of all necessary regulatory and stock exchange approvals. Corel filed a preliminary prospectus to qualify the common shares on May 29, 2000. The common shares have not been and will not be registered under the United States Securities Act of 1933, as amended, and may not be sold or offered for sale in the United States or otherwise distributed in the United States, except in reliance on available registration exemptions.

In the event a final prospectus is not filed within the 10 business days following the preliminary filing, a half warrant will be issued to the purchasers of the common shares for each common share purchased, each whole warrant entitling the purchaser to acquire an additional common share at the price of Cdn $4.56 within a 12-month period.

ich bin noch nicht rein sondern warte erst noch die Q2 Zahlen ab,
die ich glaube nächste Woche kommen sollten. Vielleicht hab ich
dann den ersten Gewinn nicht sicher, dafür aber doch weitere ruhige
Nächte. Welchen Einstiegskurs habt ihr denn? Ich bin bei 10 im Februar eingestiegen und hab mich leider nicht an SL gehalten.

Ich denke, die Zeit ist reif dass Cowpland sich etwas zurückzieht
wie das auch Gates getan hat, dann haben wir endlich freie Bahn nach
oben.

Also Einstigskurs jetzt habe ich 3.10. Also da hab ich echt nen guten Punkt getroffen. Bezüglich der Q2 Zahlen wage ich keine Prognose. Das kann durchaus ein Verlust sein und den Kursverlauf negativ beeinflussen! Zu Cowplant: Also, bei aller Antipthie für Bill Gates, aber ich will ihm nciht zumuten ihn mit Cowplant zu vergleichen!Cowplant ist für mich dafür verantwortlich, daß Corel über Jahre hinweg keine klare Linie gefunden hat, was seine Entwicklungs- oder Marktstrategie betrifft. Das scheint sich erst in jüngster Zeit geklärt zu haben. Ich verweise in diesem Zusammenhang auf den Netwinder, den er einfach weiterverkauft hat... Wenn Cowplant geht, dann geht die Lutzi wrklich ab!

Heute kam eine PR, die für mich ein Beispiel ist, warum ich Corel einfach halte: Weil sie gute Produkte haben und an interessanten, vielversprechenden Projekten arbeiten:

Einige eurer Prognosen und Bewertungen halte ich für etwas Realitätsfern. So zB. die Hoffnung dass sich Corel ähnlich wie Adobe entwickeln könnte. Hierbei ist doch klar zu beachten, das Adobe Corels grösster Konkurrent auf dem Grafiksoftwarebereich ist, und deren letzteren Produkte ein viel höheres Ansehen geniessen. Die Hoffnungen die sich auf Linux stützen sind evtl. auch etwas übertrieben. Es ist die Frage ob Linux in Zukunft noch genug Nachfrage auf dem Markt erhalten wird. Evtl. bin Ich auch einfach nur zu deprimiert, da ich bei 5,61 EURO eingestiegen bin. Allerdings bin ich immernoch überzeugt, dass dieser Wert unterbewertet ist, jedoch bezweifle ich dass der Wert in in diesem Jahr die 15 nochmal durchbrechen wird.

Mit Adobe würde ich Corel auch nur sehr begrenzt vergleichen wollen...

Sehe die Lage ähnlich wie du, bei 5 wäre ich allerdings noch nicht eingestiegen... das ist so mein Kursziel, wenn die Zahlen nicht richtig bitter werden.

Da hab ich mir aber noch keinen reim drauf gemacht.

Auf RB sagen viele, daß es mit den Problemen von MSFT zusammenhängt. Das halte ich aber eher für unwahrscheinlich. Andere Gerüchte sagen, daß sich ein großer Aufkäufer an den Markt bewegt hat. Das würde dann auf die Übernahme deuten... so richtig wahrscheinlich finde ich diese Möglichkeit aber auch nicht. Maybe, wir dwerden sehen, ob was dahinter steckt.

ich wollte Corel gar nicht mit Adobe vergleichen sondern
nur mögliches Potenzial aufzeigen.

Die meisten werden sich nicht mehr erinner, aber bezüglich
Software gab es bei diesen Firmen eine Zeit da hatte Corel
gute Möglichkeiten Adobe (damals Aldus) die Stirn zu zeigen.

Wer kennt den noch Ventura Puplisher V 2.0 ? Kaum einer.
Damals aber war ventur DAS Programm. Leider gewann PageMaker
das Rennen als der Puplisher von Corel aufgekauft wurde.

Corel, die Version 1,2 kannte damals fast jeder. Es war
dem Designer in der Vielfalt voraus. Damals haben sie aber
die Tonangebenden Grafiker für den Apple entschieden und
damit gegen Corel und für Aldus/Adobe.

Welche Situation haben wir heute? Immer weniger Leute mögen
Microsoft. Was sind die alternativen mit echten Zuwachraten?

Na ja, sollte nur mal die Zukunftsperspektiven aufzeigen.
Kann natürlich in die Hose gehen, aber ich sehe die
Konsolidierung für beendet und wenn der nächste Hype so
weitergeht wie letztes Jahr, dann sehen wir die 50,00 €

Mein Kursziel ist ein wenig höher als 5 €. Das hängt jedoch
von der jeweiligen Situation ab. Letztes Jahr bin ich bei
22,00 € ausgestiegen.

Corel cuts 320 jobs, CEO forgoes salary to cut costs

TORONTO June 8 (Reuters) - Money-losing Corel Corp. (Toronto:COR.TO - news)(NasdaqNM:CORL - news) said on Thursday it will lay off 320 staff, or 21 percent of its workforce, and its chief executive will forgo his salary as part of a cost-cutting plan to trim $40 million from its annual expenses.

Ottawa-based Corel, which recently announced a much-needed financing deal worth C$30 million, said the job cuts included terminations, attrition, and contract cancellations. Staff in all departments were affected, the company said in a statement.

Corel, which reports its second-quarter results on June 19, has warned it expects two more quarters of losses of a size similar to its first-quarter loss of $12.4 million.

Corel is slashing expenses in the wake of its failed merger with Inprise/Borland Corp. (NasdaqNM:INPR - news) on May 16. The aborted merger withdrew Inprise/Borland`s cash reserves of about $240 million and quashed a $29.5 million termination fee.

``This was not an easy decision to make,`` said Corel chief executive Michael Cowpland in a statement. ``After much careful deliberation, the company concluded that these steps were necessary.``

Corel said that it is in a quiet period and cannot comment further on the cost-cutting plan.

Hi Roger11, genau, Realplayer braucht man da, glaube ich.

Tja wir werden sehen. Ich bin gespannt auf den CC. Wenn nicht ein Wunder geschieht und England verliert oder wegen der Hools disqualifiziert wird, höre ich mir das auch morgen an.

Mich interessieren weniger die Zahlen als vielmehr Informationen über den Stand der Portierung diverser Programme auf Linux. Vor einem Monat hieß es da noch, man liege über Plan.

Desweiteren bin ich noch einmal gespannt auf eine Kommentierung der geplatzten Fusion und ob was anders kommt. Das will ich nicht hoffen, weil das für mich hieße, daß hier Partnersuche mit der heißen Nadel gestrickt würde. Aber das erwarte ich eigentlich auch nicht.

Hi Ingmar, bin auch skeptisch bezügl. einer Übernahme. Wäre kursmäßig ja auch nur interessant, wenn sich gleich mehrere Companies drum kloppen würden. Is aber nicht, wenn überhaupt, dann REDHAT.

Vieleicht gibt`s ja ein LINUX-Revival, dann wären wir vorerst mal aus dem Gröbsten raus. Ansonsten, wie Du schon sagtest, auf den Herbst warten.

Nachgehakt: Corel erwartet aber laut Mr. Cowplant. Im 4. Quartal wieder profitabel zu sein schaffen sie das ohne Aquisition?

Kein Komentar für diese Pläne, der Prozess zur Profitabilität ist allerdings ein dynamisch.

Corel plant 29 mio Dollar an Kapital zu aquirieren... Genaue Details dazu gibt es aber noch nicht.

Q3 Ergebnisse sollen wesentlich besser werden (aber noch mit Verlust), allerdings nur, wenn der Refinanzierungsplan umzusetzen ist. (Davon ist allerdings auszugehen).


Frage: Warum diese Verschlechterung?

Die Verluste kommen zum großen teil vonm nachlassenden Retailergeschäft...
Das hängt wiederum mit der partiellen PC Absatzflaute zusammen.(Anmekrung: Da scheint mir Corel doch sehr abhängig zu sein)

Corel posts second-quarter loss in line with warning

OTTAWA, June 20 (Reuters) - Struggling Canadian software developer Corel Corp. (Toronto:COR.TO - news)(NasdaqNM:CORL - news) posted a second-quarter loss on Tuesday that reflects sinking sales for mature product lines.

The loss was in line with a recent warning from the Ottawa-based company.

Corel -- best known for its WordPerfect and CorelDRAW software until its entry last year into the Linux market -- said its operating loss, excluding one-time charges, of $23.6 million, or 36 cents per share, was down from an operating profit of $9.7 million, 14 cents a share, in the year-earlier quarter.

Corel warned on June 15 of a net loss of $22 million to $24 million. In March it had forecast an $18.8 million operating loss. Corel said it recorded one-time costs in the second quarter resulting from its failed merger with Inprise/Borland Corp. (NasdaqNM:INPR - news) and a gain from the sale of GraphOn Corp. (NasdaqSC:GOJO - news)

Second-quarter sales fell 48 percent to $36.6 million from $70.5 million in the year-earlier quarter. Cash at the quarter`s close stook at $9.9 million.

The weak performance once again raises questions about Corel`s future and whether further cost-cutting measures are needed to keep the company afloat. Corel, which secured a much-needed financing deal worth C$30 million in the wake of its failed acquisition of Inprise/Borland Corp. (NasdaqNM:INPR - news), this month cut 21 percent of its staff, 320 employees, as part of a plan to trim annual costs by $40 million.

Qu3-Zahlen waren ja vorab schon als besser prognostiziert.

REDHAT hat heute LINUX und COREL mitgerissen. Die Allianz DELL/REDHAT
lässt doch Gutes erwarten. In CNN-Moneyline wurde vorhin allgemein vermutet, dass die Big Fonds langsam ihr Bares investieren werden, da Zinsängste so gut wie vorbei sind und die Ami-Konjunktur etwas runtergekühlt scheint. REDHAT und Co ist noch zum Einsteigen gut. Könnte mir vorstellen, daß die Fonds sich jetzt eindecken. Die Chip Branche und einige BW- und B2B-Software-Companies sind nämlich schon wieder mächtig teuer.

Hallo ihr beiden,

könnt ihr mir vielleicht erklären, was das mit der quiet period bis
zum 15. Juli wegen dem Canacord-Deal zu bedeuten hat. Müssen bis dahin
alle Nachrichten aufbewahrt werden und wie seht ihr die Chance, dass
Corel eine Finanzspritze bekommt oder aufgekauft wird. Sie haben ja
jetzt definitiv vor der Insolvenz gewarnt. Langsam wird mir mulmig,
zum Glück hab ich letzte Wochen noch RedHat und Cobalt gekauft. Trotzdem bleibe ich in Corel investiert. Irgendwo habe ich gelesen, dass der Preis für Corel Software auf ca. 10-20 Dollar/Aktie geschätzt wurde. Das gibt mir Hoffnung, dass mein Geld nicht ganz abgeschrieben ist. Vielleicht hat ja noch jemand anderes ermunternde Worte.

Hier die Geschichte mit der Insolvenzwarnung.

Ich glaube nicht, daß die Firma dran glauben muß. Aus der Mitteilung geht hervor, daß die Insolvenz nur droht, wen de 30 mio C$ Deal nicht zu Stande kommt.

Das entscheidet sich bis zum besagten 15.07.2000. Ich sehe hier aber nicht warum er kommen sollte. Im Juli wird Corel Draw fürLinux fertig, im Herbst kommt Corel Draw 10. die Kosten heirfür sind in den vergangenen Quartalen angefallen.

corel ist nicht aus dem Groben raus. Das will ich heir unterstreichen. Aber ich verweise nochmal auf die zyklische Entwicklung der Firma bezüglich ihrer Ergebnisse. Diese liegen weniger an den Ausgaben denn mehr an den zyklischen Revenues.

Corel (CORL: news, msgs) is getting sent 13 percent lower to 3 21/32. The software company reported late Tuesday
that it had only $9.9 million in cash on its balance sheet, and conceded that unless it gets more money, its "ability to
continue would be in substantial doubt." Separately, Corel said it had a net loss of 36 cents a share in the second
quarter, compared to lowered First Call estimates of a loss of 40 cents. On June 15, Corel warned that it expected
greater-than-expected losses; at the time, First Call was estimating the company to lose 32 cents a share.

ausserdem setzen sie ihren sparkurs konsequent fort, in zwei wochen erfolgen neue entlassungen was zum sparplan zählt.

Im CC haben sie gesagt, daß keine weiteren Stellenstreichungen mehr geplant sind. Aber es gibt ja auch noch andere Möglichkeiten zu sparen...

Die Geschichte mit der Übernahme allerdings finde ich interessant. Ohne hier unnötig die Spekulationen anheizen zu wollen... aber wer käme denn als Übernehmer in Frage? Da könnte es angesichts der Microdoof-Zerschlagung wohl Interessenten geben, die sich in der Zukunft für dne Markt mehr Chancen ausrechnen. Aber wer soll das konkret sein? Oder eine Linux Company? Das einzige was ich bislang gehört habe, ist RedHat. Ich weiß jetzt aber nicht konkret, was die in der Kriegskasse haben und ob das langt.

Sehe das ähnlich mit den neuen Softwareprodukten. Der Multiplikator über DELL/REDHAT scheint mir aber auch sehr wichtig. Software steht nun mal in der Kette immer am Ende, d.h., je mehr das L-Betriebssystem verbreitet wird, desto mehr Absatz finden die Anwendungen.

Könnte mir vorstellen, dass beispielsweise AOL oder jetzt auch VIVENDI mit einem Auge verfolgen, was da läuft. Webpage-Design als Dienstleistung ist ein riesen Markt. Und über die Qualität von COREL-Produkten braucht man ja nichts zu sagen. Also nicht nur REDHAT könnte interessiert sein, die zu schlucken.
Ich glaub aber, die schaffen`s alleine.

Die große Hoffnung der Linux-Anbieter hatte sich doch in den letzten Wochen auf das Microsoft-Urteil bezogen. Nach dem Prozeßurteil ging es erst einmal bergauf mit Linux. Nachdem aber nun die Aufspaltung von Microsoft und die Offenlegung des Quellencodes durch die Berufungskommission auf die lange Bank geschoben wurde, sehe ich vor allem für Corel schwarz. Ihre einzige Hoffnung besteht derzeit vielleicht noch auf einer Übernahme. Aus eigener Kraft schaffen sie es nach den schlechten Nachrichten und Quartalszahlen nicht mehr.

ich freue mich sehr das es außer mir auch weiter Interesenten bei Corel gibt. Ich war in früheren Zeiten einnmal bei 4,50€ eingestiegen und war dann leider wieder bei 11€ ausgestiegen. Waren zwar auch lockere 100 Prozent, doch es ging ja rassant bis weit über 40€. Ich denk aber das sich so ein etabliertes Unternehmen nicht einfach in Luft auflöst. Ich habe bei deshalb auch noch einmal bei 4.45€ vor ein Paar Wochen reingelegt, was etwas zu Hoch war, aber auf eine langfristige Sicht macht es dieser eine Euro auch nicht gerade Dicke.
Also noch einmal viel Spaß hier und ich werde bestimmt in nächster Zeit häufiger vorbeischauen und vielleicht auch etwas wissenswertes reinschreiben.

Corel Licensing Deal with HP Stokes Stock
OTTAWA (Reuters) - Struggling Canadian software developer Corel Corp. (Toronto:COR.TO - news)(NasdaqNM:CORL - news) said on Tuesday that its software will be bundled with Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE:HWP - news) scanners, a deal that stoked strong share gains but drew little enthusiasm from analysts.

Financial terms of the licensing deal with Hewlett-Packard were not disclosed. Corel said its Print House 2000 software will be included on Hewlett-Packard`s ScanJet 4300C scanner for the home market.

The deal includes versions of the Corel software in a range of languages.

``This is a nothing deal,`` said Duncan Stewart, a technology analyst and fund manager at Tera Capital Corp., who has previously owned Corel stock but does not now hold any shares or have short or long positions on the stock.

``This is probably a $500,000-ish deal, but everybody sees Corel partner with H-P and they think they are bundling Linux with it.``

Corel shares roared to massive gains of more than 40 percent in early trade on Tuesday after the company announced the agreement.

Stock in Corel surged C$2.10 to C$7.40 on the Toronto Stock Exchange with nearly 1 million shares swapped hands, a gain of 41.5 percent, while on Nasdaq the share added 1-3/8 to 5 for a 38 percent rise on trade of more than 5 million shares.

The resurgence marks the latest peak in a roller-coaster market ride for Corel shares. The stock, which hit a record of C$64.65 on the Toronto exchange in December amid the market`s enthusiasm for shares connected to the hot Linux computer operating system, is still recovering from its 52-week low of C$3.72 in late May.

Corel officials were not immediately available for comment.

Corel, battling a cash crunch and losing money as demand for its mature WordPerfect and CorelDRAW products dwindles, recently laid of 320 staff or one-fifth of its work force. Sales from the company`s new line of Linux software have yet to make a major contribution to revenues.

der Deal mit HP ist auf den ersten Blick wirklich nicht der Bringer,
viele haben bestimmt bei den ersten Zeilen an ein Linux-Bundling gedacht (so wie ich auch). Dennoch, entscheidend ist, dass Vertrauenwürdigkeit gewonnen wurde und HP auf ein Fortbestehen von Corel setzt. Das ist ungemein wichtig und stützt das Vertrauen auf das Management!? Dennoch ist das Tal der Tränen noch lang nicht durchschritten, solange wirklich die Linux-Produkte nicht anziehen. Am Momentum sieht man aber, was die Leute von dieser Idee halten würden, nämlich grandios! Und darauf setzte und hoffe ich. Positiv vielleicht auch die Meldung, dass Rebel.com (Corel besitzt 30%) mit Transmeta-Chips arbeiten wird und Corel hat ein Software-Abkommen mit Rebel (Rebel ist ja quasi Corel`s Tochter und soll Ende des Jahres an die Nasdaq gebracht werden) und damit ist klar, wer die Anwendungen bringen wird. Das ist vielleicht die eher entscheidende Meldung heute gewesen, die viele übersehen haben. So long und in Hoffnung auf bessere Kurse. Mein Average ist 10 Euro.

Moin, ich glaube jedenfalls kaum, daß von dirtter seite OEM Abkommen geschlossen werden, wenn man die Gewissheit hat, daß die Company pleite geht.

Wie dem auch sei, ich werde meine shares die nächste Woche verkaufen, weil ich in Urlaube fahre, und dafür ist mir das ganze dann doch zu riskant und 25% Gewinn soll man ja auch nicht verachten! Wenn sich nichts wesentliches ändert, steige ich wieder ein, wenn ich wiederkomme...

am 15. August soll eine Präsentation vom Linux Second Edition sein.
Hoffentlich bringt das die Aktie hoch. Ich überlege noch, ob
ich COREL kaufen soll oder nicht.

Der Gründer des Softwarekonzerns Corel, Michael Cowpland, trat gestern nach Börsenschluß als CEO, Chairman und Präsident des Unternehmens zurück. Dieser Schritt ist eine Reaktion auf die andauernden Finanzschwierigkeiten und zurückgehenden Verkäufe der letzten Zeit, für die er von einigen Analysten verantwortlich gemacht wurde.

Zu den ´New Ventures´ würden WAP-Anwendungen (Wireless Access Protocol) und die Transformation bestehender Anwendungen zu webbasierten zählen, so daß die Kunden Nutzen aus der vollen Leistung des Webs ziehen könnten, so Burney weiter.

Corels Linuxdistribution solle ein Teil des Kerngeschäfts bleiben. Gegen Ende des Jahres will Corel eine Server-Edition und zu Beginn des kommenden eine Enterprise-Version herausgeben.

Außerdem werde Corel seine Professional Services stärker ins Blickfeld und Bewußtsein der Öffentlichkeit rücken.

Schließlich will der neue (vorläufige) CEO »die Arbeit am operativen Budget fortsetzen, um sicherzustellen, daß sich unsere Kosten mit den erreichbaren, erwarteten Resultaten die Waage halten.«

Die meisten Analysten zogen ein positives erstes Fazit: »Er hat einen vollkommen anderen Stil als (der ehemalige CEO) Michael Cowpland«, sagte Amy Wohl, President von Wohl Associates in Narberth (Pennsylvania). »Mike ist ein Cowboy, er liebt Aufregung und Risiken. Derek ist ein Manager und Aufbauer. Er ist eher der operationale Typ - (er) will wissen, wie alles zusammenpaßt und wie man das Ganze zum laufen bringt.«

CorelDRAW 10

Investoren haben heute nur wenig Notiz von der Veröffentlichung der neuen Version der beliebten Grafikanwendung CorelDRAW genommen, des Flaggschiffs des weiterhin in Schwierigkeiten steckenden kanadischen Softwareentwicklers Corel (CORL, Toronto: COR).
Corel, das unter rückläufigem Absatz und dem Rückzug seines langjährigen umstrittenen CEOs und Gründers Michael Cowpland, sagte, daß das Angebot seiner CorelDRAW 10 Graphics Suite, das im November anläuft, von merklichen Preissteigerungen begleitet werde: Der empfohlene Upgradepreis liege bei $249 und $569 für die Vollversion. Im Vergleich dazu waren die Preise bei CorelDRAW 9 etwa 25% günstiger: $199 für das Upgrade und $695 für das vollständige Paket.

»Das ist teilweise die Sorge darüber, wohin die Unternehmung sich nun bewegt, jetzt, da Mike nicht mehr da ist. Und das bedeutet offenbar nicht eine unmittelbare Steigerung der Umsätze oder Gewinne«, sagte Jean W. Orr, Analyst bei Bluestone Capital Partners. »Es hängt eng damit zusammen, daß (die Aktie) nicht reagiert.«

Die Verkäufe der neuen Grafiksoftware werden das Ergebnis des dritten Quartals, das am Donnerstag endet, nicht verbessern, jedoch im vierten Quartal einfließen. »Ich bewerte (Corel) mit underperform, ich denke, die werden ein schwieriges August-Quartal haben«, sagte David Wright, Analyst bei BMO Nesbitt Burns.

Allgemein wird erwartet, daß Corels dritte Quartal dem zweiten ähneln wird, das von einem einschneidenden Umsatzrückgang von $70,5 Millionen im entsprechenden Vorjahresquartal auf $36,6 Millionen geprägt war.

Der Umsatz mit CorelDRAW im zweiten Quartal sank auf $17,2 Millionen (Q2 1999: $26,7 Millionen), der mit WordPerfect auf $16,8 Millionen (Q2 1999: $43,8 Millionen).

Also ich werd bis nach den Zahlen abwarten... Kann allerdings gut sein, daß ich diesmal zu spät bin, wenn man die Analogie zu den Jahren davor nimmt. Hier gab es allerdings im letzten Jahr den Sondereffekt, der sich nicht durch das zyklische Ertragsbild von Corel abdeckt, das war der Linux Boom, deswegen wurde ich iom letzten Jahr auch auf dem falschen Fuß erwischt....

Ich erwarte mir von diesen Zahlen noch keine positive Überraschung!

CorelDRAW 10 mit Canto Cumulus

Corel (CORL) und die Canto Software AG haben heute angekündigt, daß die demnächst erhältliche CorelDRAW 10 Grafiksuite die Canto Cumulus in aktueller Version enthalten werde.
CorelDRAW 10 wird im kommenden November in die Handelsregale gelangen zum empfohlenen Verkaufspreis von $249 für das Upgrade und $569 für die Vollversion.

»Corel und Canto freuen sich über eine schon lange andauernde Partnerschaft, deren Ziel die Erfüllung von Forderungen der heutigen Kreativ-Profis ist«, sagte Sylvain Charron, Director of Product Management der Creative Products Group bei Corel. »Indem wir Cantos fortschrittliches, plattformübergreifendes Mediamanagementsystem in der CorelDRAW 10 Grafiksuite verwenden, dehnen wir das bereits robuste und umfangreiche Grafikpaket weiter aus und geben den Nutzern noch mehr Werkzeuge zur kreativen und effizienten Arbeit an die Hand.«

»Corel-Produkte und Cumulus passen ideal zusammen«, sagte Jennifer Neumann, Vorstandsvorsitzende von Canto. »CorelDRAW, Corel PHOTO-PAINT und Cumulus sind Marktführer in ihren Bereichen. Kreativitätswerkzeuge und die Verwaltung von medialem Vermögen müssen ineinander integriert werden.«

Canto Cumulus 5 ist ein Archivierungssystem für Multimediadaten. Die Plattform bietet außerdem eine flexible Basis für jede Art von Arbeitsflußlösung von Vermögensgegenständen in der Produktion. Cumulus ist eine High-End-Anwendung zur Verwaltung und Publikation jeglicher Art von medialem Vermögen wie Bilder, Layouts, Präsentationen, Video, Audio und Text. Die Cumulus-Produktlinie besteht aus drei Editionen: Single User, Workgroup und Enterprise. Außerdem gibt es Erweiterungsoptionen von Canto oder Partnerunternehmen.

Corel schloß heute an der Nasdaq etwas fester bei $3 1/2 (+2,75%).

Aufwind für Corel

Die Corel-Aktie (CORL) stieg gestern abend im nachbörslichen Handel bei hohen Umsätzen um mehr als 10% auf $4 1/4 (+$25/64), nachdem die Aktie im Nasdaq-Handel um 2,92% auf $3 55/64 zugelegt hatte (+$7/64).
Auslöser der Entwicklung war die Ankündigung eines Abkommens mit PCTel (PCTI). Corel und PCTel werden gemeinsam ein linuxkompatibles Softwaremodem entwickeln und an den Markt bringen, das nach Angaben von PCTel das erste seiner Art ist.

»Durch die Zusammenarbeit mit einem Branchenführer wie Corel, der unserer Treiber mit seiner Software bündeln wird, können wir eine Lösung anbieten, die Computerherstellern die Verbindung unserer softwarebasierten Modemtechnologie mit der Zuverlässigkeit und Flexibilität des Linux-Betriebssystems erlaubt«, sagte Peter Chen, Chief Executive von PCTel.

Die PCTel-Aktie schloß an der Nasdaq unverändert bei $26 1/2.

licht am ende des tunnels?

Hallo Jungs,

wie lange habe ich darauf gewartet. Langsam wurde es immer ruhiger und in diesem Board und jetzt haben wir die News. Microsoft investiert in Corel und damit ist das passiert, was ich schon vermutet hatte. Damit wird sich Microsoft in the Linux-Markt extrem billig einkaufen. Und mit einem Schlag hat Microsoft Rebel, WordPerfect für Linux (die Linux-Strategie bedeutet, nicht Word zu portieren sondern zwei unabhängige aber kompatible Office-Packete anbieten zu können) und vor allem die ASP-Phantasie. Ich hatte in den letzten Wochen meine Einstiegskurs von 15 Euro auf 8 verbilligt, aber nicht zu viel investiert. Schade, hätte ich doch mal mehr dazugekauft. Hoffentlich springen jetzt nicht die Linux-Jünger ab mit diesem Investment. Ich sehe es als uneingeschränkt positiv und denke, dass damit Corel eine Wahnsinns-Kursverlauf sehen wird.

Das muß ich mir jetzt erst mal durch den Kopf gehen lassen. Das heißt auch enormer Auftrieb für die Linuxdistribution ansich!

Damn shit - spontan würde ich sagen Strong buy!
