GreenFirst Reports Strong Results for the First Quarter of 2022

TORONTO, ON, May 11, 2022/CNW/ – GreenFirst Forest Products Inc. (TSX: GFP) (“GreenFirst” or the “Company”) today announced results for the first quarter of 2022. First Quarter of 2022 Highlights

First quarter 2022 (“Q1 2022”) net earnings were $34.0 million, or $0.18 per share (diluted), compared to $8.0 million, or $ 0.04 per share, in the fourth quarter of 2021 (“Q4 2021”), which was the Company’s first full quarter operating its acquired forest-products assets
Q1 2022 Adjusted EBITDA was $44.9 million (see, Reconciliation of Adjusted EBITDA), an improvement of 144% compared to the Adjusted EBITDA in Q4 2021
Lumber pricing improved significantly in Q1 2022 and outlook continues to be strong for the remainder of the second quarter of 2022 and beyond, with continued volatility but above-historical levels expected
Asset-backed revolving loan facility of $65.0 million was undrawn at quarter end and has remained undrawn at May 11, 2022. Seasonal log inventory build up continued to be funded from strong operating cash flow
The Company plans to conclude its Transition Services Agreement with Rayonier Advanced Materials by end of May 2022
The Government of Ontario has offered support to relocate the Kenora sawmill, an opportunity we continue to work on. The Company is also moving some equipment to our other Ontario sawmills to improve production and recovery
Subsequent to Q1 2022, the Company made a voluntary repayment of US$8.9 million on its outstanding term debt

Scotiabank said on Tuesday Interfor Corp. (IFP) buying 28.7 million common shares, representing a 16.2% stake, in GreenFirst Forest Products Inc. (GFP) from Rayonier Advanced Materials for $56 million in cash was "not the end game".

The bank said that it was not a "big fan" of minority positions but added that the transaction, combined with the recent acquisition of Eacom Timber Corporation, provides Interfor with "meaningful influence" and optionality in Eastern Canada for a reasonable amount.

It noted that shares of GreenFirst have traded between $1.52 and $4.82 in the last 12 months and that Interfor bought the shares at $1.94 apiece.

Scotiabank said a combination with Eacom would make "perfect business sense". It recalled that legacy owners Domtar and Tembec first proposed to merge those potentially synergistic lumber assets in 2003.

The bank said it understands that Interfor obtained some level of comfort such a combination would get the required approvals from Quebec and Ontario.

BURNABY, British Columbia, May 02, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- INTERFOR CORPORATION (the “Company”) (TSX: IFP) announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary, Interfor East Ltd. (together with the Company, “Interfor”), has acquired a total of 28,684,433 common shares in the capital of GreenFirst Forest Products Inc. (“GreenFirst”) from Rayonier A.M. Canada G.P., which represents approximately 16.2% of GreenFirst’s issued and outstanding common shares. The total cash consideration was approximately C$56 million, or C$1.94 per share, and certain price protection provisions will apply in limited circumstances during a defined period following the transaction.

This acquisition was made for investment purposes and builds upon, and is complementary to, Interfor’s recent expansion into Eastern Canada through the acquisition of EACOM Timber Corporation in February 2022.

Before the transaction, Interfor did not own or have control or direction over any common shares or other securities of GreenFirst. Ich könnte mir vorstellen, dass die meisten ehemaligen deutschsprachigen Anleger durch das komplizierte Verfahren bei der Kapitalerhöhung abgeschreckt wurden und sich verabschiedet haben.

Inwiefern das Thema "Holz" für neue Investoren im deutschsprachigen Raum interessant ist, kann ich nicht wirklich beurteilen, vermute aber, das Interesse ist generell eher gering für diesen Rohstoff. Ist mir aber nicht so wichtig, die Musik hierfür spielt ohnehin in Kanada und der Lumberpreis zieht wieder mächtig an, also alles gut!

Ja, hast Recht, so ganz erstaunlich ist es nun auch wieder nicht für Sägemühlen :-). Meine Überlegung war, dass ja die Kenora Sägemühle noch nicht wieder in Betrieb ist und daher noch nicht von steigenden Holzpreisen profitiert, statt dessen muss erst noch investiert werden. Ich hoffe, es gibt bald mal ein Update, wie es voran geht.

Ich finde das nicht erstaunlich. Über hedging ist mir bislang nichts bekannt, siehe auch Seite 26 des "long form prospectus".

Schon erstaunlich, wie stark der Aktienpreis von Greenfirst Forest mit dem lumber Preis korreliert. Jedenfalls steigen die lumber Preise wieder ordentlich und das hilft ganz offensichtlich der Aktie ganz massiv.
