      Guten Morgen,

      Letzte News:

      Press Release
      SOURCE: Ivanhoe Energy Inc.
Ivanhoe Energy updates drilling activities in East Texas and California
BAKERSFIELD, CA, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ - Ivanhoe Energy (NASDAQ:IVAN and TSE:IE) has been pursuing two important exploration plays in the United States: the Bossier Gas Play in East Texas and deep-gas drilling in California. Additionally, the steam injection pilot program being conducted at the South Midway Sunset field in California has been completed with favorable results.

East Texas - Bossier Gas Play

Ivanhoe, along with its joint venture partner Unocal (NYSE:UCL - news), have completed drilling the initial well on the Creslenn Ranch prospect on the Bossier Trend in East Texas. The 1-Trinity Materials well was drilled to a total depth of 12,240 feet and encountered approximately 120 net feet of Bossier sand, which indicates the potential for natural gas production. The companies will commence fracturing and testing operations within the next few weeks. After setting and cementing casing, the drilling rig was moved to the second location on the Creslenn Ranch prospect and began drilling the 2- Trinity Materials well on December 30th.

``We are very encouraged that these results have closely matched our pre- drill estimates of Bossier sand thickness. Our next step is to determine the daily production rate that may be achieved from this apparent gas discovery which should commence before the end of January,`` said Ivanhoe Chairman, David Martin.

Since announcing the joint venture with Unocal in October, several prospects have been identified and the joint leasehold position has grown to approximately 48,000 gross acres in Henderson, Anderson and Freestone counties of Texas. The current exploration drilling plan calls for up to four wells at the Creslenn Ranch prospect followed by at least two additional wells on a separate prospect in Freestone County. The Creslenn Ranch prospect is located in Henderson County and is approximately 75 miles south of Dallas, Texas. Unocal is operator and will invest $10 million toward initial drilling costs to offset the front-end exploration costs incurred by Ivanhoe. After investment equilibrium is reached, the companies will share exploration, development and infrastructure costs equally.

      California Deep-Gas

The NWLH 1-22 deep-gas well has successfully drilled to a depth of 18,400 feet and encountered the top of the objective Temblor formation. However, prior to the setting of casing, geologic information from this portion of the Temblor formation indicated that the bottom hole could be placed in a more structurally favorable location. Drilling operations have resumed and total depth should be reached over the next four to six weeks.

``It is not uncommon for wells of this depth to be sidetracked to a more favorable location. Since we have not yet set casing below 12,000 feet, we will be able to kick off the well bore and drill to total depth within a few weeks of our original drilling timetable,`` said David Martin.

The NWLH 1-22 well is in Kern County and operated by Aera Energy LLC. Ivanhoe has a 42% working interest in this well and an approximate average of 46% within its entire Lost Hills position. In addition to Ivanhoe and Aera, joint venture partners in this well include PYR Energy Corporation and Ceniarth, Inc.

      S. Midway Sunset - Steam Injection Program

In the South Midway-Sunset field in Kern County, California, a process of cyclic steam injection was initiated in late September 2001 and included five wells by the end of the pilot program in November 2001. The results have been very encouraging with individual well production rates peaking at 2.5 times over pre-steam production levels within three weeks after the steam was injected. Overall production from the five wells in the program increased from a pre-steam level of 90 barrels per day to 200 barrels per day.

The positive response from this pilot program supports the application of a cyclic steam injection process over the entire 29 wells in the field and will have a favorable impact on daily oil production and proved reserves for the field. South Midway-Sunset is currently producing approximately 500 barrels per day. Ivanhoe has a 100% working interest in the field.

Ivanhoe Energy`s mission is to create value for its shareholders, initially focusing on: (1) production of cleaner burning fuels from natural gas, using proven gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology; (2) conventional exploration and production (E&P), primarily natural gas in the U.S.; and (3) enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and natural-gas projects, on a production-sharing basis with national petroleum companies.

Besondere Fantasie kommt noch durch China dazu. Ivanhoe ist in der Mongolei tätig, das könnte mal einen Kick geben.

Schauts euch mal an. Inbesondere interessiert mich die Meinung zu Ölaktien. Das letze Mal war in mitte der 80 Jahre
mit den Ölaktien zu Gange, sodaß ich eventuell Nachholbedarf in diesem Sektor habe.

Ivanhoe Energy updates drilling activities at Lost Hills, California
BAKERSFIELD, CA, Feb. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Ivanhoe Energy (NASDAQ:IVAN and TSE:IE) indicated that the NWLH 1-22 deep-gas well has been successfully sidetracked and is currently drilling below 16,880 feet toward a target depth of 20,000 feet. Recently, increased pressure from the down-hole formation was encountered. During that time, small amounts of natural gas from the well were burned through a flare stack. Drilling operations are continuing above the main objective and will continue until the next casing point is reached. At that point, one-inch thick specialty casing will be cemented into the wellbore before drilling into the Temblor formation is resumed.

``Sidetrack operations have apparently achieved our objective by positioning the well in a more favorable structural location,`` said David Martin, Ivanhoe`s Chairman. ``While gas shows are fairly common and not always indicative of overall well success, we are encouraged by the apparent presence of fracturing in the sidetrack well bore.``

Additionally, Ivanhoe and Aera Energy LLC have increased their shared acreage position from approximately 6,300 to 9,600 gross acres at Lost Hills. The NWLH 1-22 well is located in Kern County and operated by Aera. Ivanhoe has a 42% working interest in this well and an approximate average of 38% within its entire Lost Hills position.

      Good luck

Ivanhoe Energy In Japan Commercialization Study

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -(Dow Jones)- Ivanhoe Energy Inc. (IVAN) has undertaken a commercialization study in Japan to investigate the optimum commercial structure for utilization of gas to liquids and natural gas liquids products produced in the company`s planned Qatar project.

In a press release, Ivanhoe said the study will include identifying the role that Japanese companies can play as purchasers of the products, and suppliers of equipment, materials, services and finance in the project.

The company said that, as it progresses towards a definitive agreement with Qatar Petroleum for the project, it`s also exploring financial and marketing opportunities in Japan and elsewhere.

Ivanhoe said it initiated the study by signing a memorandum of understanding with Inpex Corp.

The Qatar GTL project involves the development of gas reserves in an area of the North Field offshore Qatar , the transportation of produced gas to NGL and GTL plants having the capacity to convert the gas into 155,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day of NGL products and 185,000 barrels a day of ultra clean GTL fuels.

Ivanhoe said the commercialization study will investigate the marketing and financial opportunities in Japan for the project, through product offtake arrangements and participation by Japanese suppliers of equipment, materials and services. Equity participation by Japanese companies will also be considered.

Ivanhoe is an oil and natural gas exploration company.

Ivanhoe holds annual meeting and provides operational update
VANCOUVER, May 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - At the Ivanhoe Energy (NASDAQ:IVAN and TSX:IE) annual meeting held today in Vancouver, B.C., shareholders appointed Deloitte & Touche LLP as auditors of the company and elected the recommended slate of directors to the board. During the course of the meeting, Chairman of the Board, David Martin, provided a brief update on the company`s three key areas of operations: gas-to-liquids projects, exploration drilling in the US, and oil and gas developments in China.

"We are very encouraged by the momentum we have gained recently behind each of our key projects and we are pressing forward toward definitive results," said Mr. Martin.

Relating to the proposed gas-to-liquids project in Qatar, the Ivanhoe negotiating team, including Leon Daniel, President and CEO, has returned to Qatar and is currently involved in negotiations to conclude a definitive agreement. No specific timetable has been established at this point.

Meanwhile, at our deep-gas prospect in California, the well is drilling in the highly prospective Temblor formation above the first potential gas- bearing zone. The Temblor may contain several separate natural gas intervals and drilling will continue through the entire formation to evaluate these potential intervals to an estimated depth of 20,000 vertical feet.

At the Lone Star prospect in East Texas, an exploratory well was drilled to a total depth of 11,800 feet and encountered indications of natural gas in several intervals, including the primary Bossier sand objective. Casing has been set in preparation for completion and testing which will commence after the well has been connected to a nearby pipeline.

Finally, representatives from Ivanhoe`s 100% -owned subsidiary, Sunwing Energy, are in China to finalize a definitive agreement covering approximately 1.9 million acres in the western portion of the Sichuan Basin, China`s largest gas-producing region.

      @JosedelaVega

Wenn FRagen immer her damit.

California deep well encounters natural gas shows
BAKERSFIELD, CA, May 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Ivanhoe Energy (NASDAQ:IVAN and TSE:IE) and its partners have encountered evidence of fracturing and indications of natural gas while drilling in the objective Temblor Formation at the NWLH 1-22 deep-gas well. The well was drilling below approximately 18,500 vertical feet when the most recent over-pressured interval was encountered, causing a flare of natural gas at the surface. The well remains under control and drilling is expected to resume shortly toward an estimated total depth of 20,000 vertical feet to fully penetrate the Temblor Formation.

"Loss of mud circulation due to fracturing and natural gas shows while drilling are positive signs and very encouraging. However, they should not be considered definitive indications of a commercial success. A more complete evaluation of the potential reservoir at NWLH will come from the testing and completion activities that may commence once we have drilled through the entire formation," said David Martin, Ivanhoe`s Chairman.

The NWLH 1-22 well is in Kern County, California, and operated by Aera Energy LLC. Ivanhoe has a 42% working interest in this well and an overall average of 38% within its 9,600-acre leasehold position in the Lost Hills area. In addition to Ivanhoe and Aera, joint venture partners in this well include PYR Energy Corporation, Ceniarth, Inc. and Occidental Petroleum, Inc.

This well began drilling in August 2001 and has an estimated completed well cost to Ivanhoe of approximately $14 million. This higher cost versus the original estimates is primarily attributable to a mechanical problem that occurred during operations to set casing to 17,000 feet and additional drilling costs related to sidetracking the well.

Ivanhoe Energy`s mission is to create value for its shareholders and host countries, initially focusing on: (1) production of cleaner burning fuels from natural gas, using proven gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology; (2) conventional exploration and production (E&P), primarily natural gas in the U.S.; and (3) enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and natural gas projects, on a production-sharing basis with national petroleum companies.

      Guten Morgen JosedelaVega,

      Ivanhoe Energy issues operational update
BAKERSFIELD, CA, June 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Ivanhoe Energy (NASDAQ:IVAN and TSX:IE) announced today that it is on track with its business plan and there are no material operational events to account for today`s drop in its share price. The market reaction may be due to the announcement late last week that Ivanhoe Energy was one of 23 companies that will be removed from the new S&P/TSX Composite Index on June 21, 2002.

"There are no operational reasons to account for the share price drop this morning," said David Martin, Ivanhoe Energy`s Chairman. "We are making excellent progress on the deep-gas well in California, on our exploration gas wells in Texas, on our negotiations in China and on our gas-to-liquids project negotiations in Qatar."

Quarterly Review of Exploration and Production

      Kern County, California

The Northwest Lost Hills 1-22 deep-gas well is currently drilling in the objective Temblor formation and is prospecting potential gas-bearing zones. The Temblor may contain several separate natural gas intervals and drilling will continue through the entire formation to evaluate these potential intervals to an estimated depth of 20,000 vertical feet.

Ivanhoe`s share of the completed well cost now is expected to reach approximately $14 million. This amount is higher than our original estimates and is primarily attributable to a mechanical problem that occurred during the casing operations and to the additional drilling costs related to sidetracking the well. However, the cost of this carefully engineered well should be weighed against what the company believes is the significant upside potential for natural gas and condensate in the Temblor formation.

Ivanhoe owns a 42% working interest in this well and has increased its net acreage ownership in the Lost Hills area to 9,600 gross acres, with an average 38% interest. Joint venture partners in the NWLH 1-22 well include the operator, Aera Energy LLC, PYR Energy Corporation, Westminster Petroleum, Inc. and Ceniarth, Inc.

In addition to NWLH, we are continuing to advance our exploration program in California by drilling on additional prospects from our extensive inventory of more than 25 prospects. We expect to begin drilling this summer on the Amethyst prospect, a 13,000-foot natural gas well to be drilled beneath the South Belridge oil field.

In the South Midway-Sunset field, the planned steam injection process over our heavy oil producing wells is underway and could substantially increase volumes and expand our development program in the area. As a result of these activities and planned new wells, we should begin to grow our South Midway production beyond the current rate of approximately 375 barrels per day from 31 wells. Ivanhoe has a 100% working interest in these wells.

      Bossier Trend, Texas

Along with joint venture partner Unocal, we have drilled three exploratory wells on our acreage in the Bossier trend thus far.

We recently completed drilling on the Lone Star prospect in Freestone County. This well, the Dubose Williford No. 1, was drilled to a total depth of 11,800 feet and encountered indications of natural gas in several intervals, including the primary Bossier sand objective. Casing has been set, the well has been connected to the nearby pipeline infrastructure and testing operations are underway. The well encountered gas indications in the Bossier, Cotton Valley, Rodessa and Pettit formations. The Lone Star prospect is located approximately nine miles northwest of existing Bossier production from the Mimms Creek field operated by Anadarko Petroleum.

Two other wells drilled on the Creslenn Ranch prospect in Henderson County encountered Bossier and Cotton Valley sand formations. Completion operations are being conducted on the second well drilled, the No. 2 Trinity Materials. While attempts in the Bossier have resulted in natural gas production, current daily flow rates are below levels that would be considered commercial. Our testing activities now will shift to the shallower Cotton Valley sand interval.

With strengthening natural gas prices, and given our proximity to the extensive infrastructure and the opportunity for each of our prospects to contain valuable secondary objectives at depths above the Bossier, we will continue to pursue additional exploration opportunities in this trend while we evaluate the results from the wells already drilled. In addition to exploratory drilling, we have continued to lease additional prospects and now control more than 58,000 acres in the trend.

      Gas-to-Liquids

The Ivanhoe negotiating team, including Leon Daniel, President and CEO, returned to Qatar in late May and is currently involved in discussions toward a definitive agreement for a large natural gas development for Qatar`s huge North Field. However, no specific timetable has been established at this point.

The Qatar project involves the development of gas deposits, installation of pipelines to transport produced gas to shore and the construction and operation of natural-gas liquids (NGL) and gas-to-liquids (GTL) plants. The plants will convert the gas into 120,000 barrels per day of NGL export products and 185,000 barrels per day of ultra-clean GTL fuels, using Syntroleum`s Fischer-Tropsch-based technology.

      China

Representatives from Sunwing Energy, our 100%-owned subsidiary, are negotiating production-sharing agreements covering approximately 1.9 million acres in the Sichuan Basin. The basin is China`s largest gas-producing region, with an estimated 245 TCF of natural gas potential and annual production of approximately 270 billion cubic feet.

The agreements apply to three exploration and production blocks located on the western and eastern flanks of the basin. On the two western blocks, producing natural gas wells already have been drilled on four separate structures. Under the proposed terms of the agreements, Ivanhoe intends to provide additional development, appraisal and exploration drilling to more fully develop the natural gas potential under all three blocks.

At our Dagang oil project, oil production during the first quarter averaged 400 barrels per day from seven pilot test wells. Ivanhoe has a 100% working interest in this project. We are awaiting the final approvals of our Overall Development Program before proceeding with further drilling and work- overs in this project. During the quarter, we completed the previously announced sale of our interest in the smaller Daqing oil project for $2.4 million.

Ivanhoe Energy trades on the National NASDAQ market with the ticker symbol IVAN, on the Toronto Stock Exchange with the symbol IE and on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange with the symbol IEX.

      Guten Tag,

gestern gabs endlich mal wieder ein dickes Plus. Auslöser war wohl diese Nachricht:

      Ivanhoe Cuts Costs, Reduces Staff
      September 16, 2002

VANCOUVER, B.C. (Petroleum Finance Week/PBI Media via COMTEX) -- Ivanhoe Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: IVAN)(TSX: T.IE) has taken several steps to reduce costs and conserve cash during the current unfavorable capital market environment. The measures include planning for cash flow expansion in California, employee and overhead cost reductions, a minor property divestment and the hedging of crude oil prices for a portion of its production.

Ivanhoe plans to expand daily production and cash flow at its South Midway Field in California through an accelerated 20-well drilling and cyclic- steaming program. The company also has reduced the size of its staff related to the conclusion of a three-year evaluation effort covering more than 300,000 acres in California that has provided a five-year inventory of exploration prospects.

The cost-cutting measures should result in cash cost savings of approximately U.S.$4 million annually, representing a reduction of approximately 30 percent. Ivanhoe also has sold its interests in seven wells in West Texas, representing only 50 barrels of oil production per day, for U.S.$1.3 million.

Finally, the company has locked in an oil price hedge for 50 percent of its production over the next six months with a floor price of $24 per barrel and a ceiling price of about $29 per barrel.

Martin explained that in the costless collar transaction, the downside protected by the floor effectively is traded off against the upside potential beyond the ceiling.

Ivanhoe Energy, PetroChina To Develop China Gas Deposits
Thursday September 19, 8:01 am ET

BEIJING -(Dow Jones)- Ivanhoe Energy Inc. has entered a 30-year production-sharing contract with PetroChina Co. to jointly develop large natural gas deposits in China.
In a news release, Ivanhoe said the agreement covers about 900,000 acres with a gross natural gas resource potential of 5 trillion cubic feet in the western portion of the Sichuan Basin, China`s largest gas-producing region.

Ivanhoe said this is the first of two "significant" production-sharing contracts it expects to sign to exploit natural gas in the Sichuan Basin.

Ivanhoe said it will develop natural gas deposits on the Zitong Block as part of the agreement. In return for its investment and development expertise, it will receive about 80% of the revenue before costs are recovered and about 45% after costs are fully recovered.

PetroChina participates as a partner in any successful developments, with up to a 51% working interest, the company said.

Ivanhoe also said it will conduct exploration activities.

Ivanhoe said it has already been approached by major financial institutions and investment banks interested in providing financing for the project.

The company said it also has the right to negotiate toward a production- sharing contract for the 1-million acre Yudong Block, on the eastern edge of the Sichuan Basin. Ivanhoe said it expects these negotiations to begin before the end of the year.

The company said the Sichuan Basin in central China is the country`s largest gas-producing region with a current production rate of more than 800 million cubic feet a day and with a natural gas resource potential estimated by Chinese officials of 260 trillion cubic feet.

Ivanhoe Mines closes CDN$60 million financing
Thursday January 16, 9:55 am ET

SINGAPORE, Jan. 16 /CNW/ - Robert Friedland, Chairman of Ivanhoe Mines, announced today that the company has closed a CDN$60 million (US$38.4 million) private-placement financing. The proceeds will be used to advance ongoing resource-definition drilling and development planning at Ivanhoe`s Turquoise Hill gold and copper discovery in Mongolia to the feasibility-study stage and to fund the company`s ongoing exploration programs in Asia, and for general corporate purposes.
The financing consists of 20 million Special Warrants at a price of CDN$3.00 (US$1.92) each. Each Special Warrant entitles the holder to acquire one common share of Ivanhoe, at no additional cost, following the clearance of a prospectus in Canada and Australia or four months after the closing date, which ever occurs first.

Ivanhoe now has arranged approximately CDN$175 million (US$111 million) in equity financing to fund the company`s exploration and development programs since discovering the high-grade gold and copper porphyry deposit at Turquoise Hill, Mongolia, in July, 2001.

Ivanhoe Mines is an international mining company developing important new gold and copper discoveries in Mongolia. Ivanhoe also produces LME Grade A copper from its Monywa joint venture in Myanmar, iron ore products from ABM Mining`s Savage River mine in Australia and gold and silver from the Silver Hill Mine in South Korea. Ivanhoe also has a 80%/20% joint venture with Pacific Minerals to explore for and develop gold, copper and platinum-group minerals in China.

Ivanhoe Energy Plans Test of New Process Designed to Upgrade Heavy Oil Production
Thursday June 12, 9:05 am ET

BAKERSFIELD, CA, June 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Ivanhoe Energy (NASDAQ:IVAN and TSX:IE) has signed a contract with Ensyn Petroleum International, a Boston-based private company, to test their Rapid Thermal Processing (RPT(TM) ) technology to upgrade the quality of heavy oil by producing high yields of lighter, more valuable crude oil. Under the terms of this contract, Ivanhoe will have the rights to test its heavy crude oil in a 250 barrel per day demonstration plant in the San Joaquin valley. The contract also gives Ivanhoe exclusive rights to apply this technology in two prospective foreign countries where heavy oil fields have been proven but under developed. Ensyn`s plant is currently under construction and the test, utilizing oil produced by Ivanhoe in the South Midway field, should be completed before the end of the year.

"There are billions of barrels of proven heavy oil worldwide that has not been developed. This process could demonstrate that heavy oil can be developed and produced more economically by reducing operating costs and by upgrading the value of the crude oil sold," said David Martin, Ivanhoe Chairman.

Under this proprietary process, the heaviest material from the oil stream is consumed providing an energy source to generate the steam used in the enhanced production of heavy oils. This lowers operating expenses by significantly reducing the need to purchase natural gas for steam generation. Additionally, the resulting higher quality crude oil can be sold at higher prices and flow more easily through pipelines.

Ensyn`s RPT(TM) technology has already been successfully applied to continuous wood/biomass processing with several commercial plants in operation. The process and plant construction rely on conventional and readily available components. Ensyn has a pilot facility in Canada and has completed over ninety test runs on heavy oil. Should the test results in California confirm that this process can be commercially applied to heavy oil, this technology would allow for a fairly rapid implementation in California and elsewhere in the world.

Ivanhoe Energy`s mission is to create value for its shareholders and host countries, initially by focusing on: (1) production of cleaner burning fuels from natural gas, using proven gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology; (2) conventional exploration and production (E&P), primarily natural gas in the U.S.; and (3) enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and natural gas projects, on a production-sharing basis with national petroleum companies.

Ivanhoe Energy trades on the NASDAQ SmallCap market with the ticker symbol IVAN and on the Toronto Stock Exchange with the symbol IE.

Ivanhoe Mines acquires three new gold and gold-copper projects in inner Mongolia, China
Tuesday August 12, 8:30 am ET

BEIJING, China, Aug. 12 /CNW/ - Ivanhoe Mines` Chairman Robert Friedland and Executive Vice-President, Exploration, Douglas Kirwin announced today that the company has entered into a comprehensive joint venture with a Chinese government entity/corporation to explore for and develop gold, copper, silver, molybdenum and other minerals on three advanced projects in the Autonomous Region of Inner Mongolia, China.
Ivanhoe has the right to earn up to 80% in each of the three new projects. The company is keeping the names and locations of the projects confidential for competitive reasons, as exploration efforts in and around the target areas are ongoing. Inner Mongolia, one of China`s largest distinct regions, covers 1.18 million square kilometres and forms part of China`s northern border with Mongolia and Russia. The rapidly growing industrialized region has large deposits of rare-earth minerals, base and precious metals, and coal.

Ivanhoe`s initial assessment of the three new projects indicates the presence of high-grade, multi-phase, gold and gold-copper-silver mineralization with extensive alteration and structural continuity. The projects were selected following an extensive reconnaissance program to identify high-priority targets based upon geologic models developed at Ivanhoe`s Turquoise Hill (Oyu Tolgoi) gold and copper porphyry project in southern Mongolia, as well as other epithermal-style deposits Ivanhoe`s geological team has worked on.

Ivanhoe is completing a detailed geological evaluation of each project and is undertaking an aggressive exploration program of geophysics, soil sampling, trenching and diamond drilling to determine the full extent of the high-grade mineralization.

The three new projects are in addition to the Oblaga gold-copper- molybdenum project, also located in Inner Mongolia, which Ivanhoe is exploring in a joint venture with Inner Mongolia Huayu Geology and Minerals Exploration Co. Ltd., an affiliate of China Non-Ferrous Metals Industries Corporation of Beijing. Oblaga is approximately 220 kilometres south-southwest of the Turquoise Hill Project. Ivanhoe joint-ventured the Oblaga Project and its surrounding exploration license in May, 2003, because its geologic and tectonic settings are similar to the porphyry belt in neighboring Mongolia that hosts Turquoise Hill and several other highly prospective gold-copper discoveries. Details of the Oblaga Project are in Ivanhoe`s May 15, 2003, news release at www.ivanhoemines.com.

Ivanhoe owns a 100% interest in the Turquoise Hill gold and copper project in Mongolia and holds exploration rights covering approximately 96,000 square kilometres in central and southern Mongolia, where additional copper and gold discoveries have been made.

Douglas Kirwin, a qualified person as defined by National Instrument 43- 101, supervised the preparation of the information in this release.

Ivanhoe shares are listed on the Toronto and Australian stock exchanges under symbol IVN.

      Utility issues attempt a rally

      By Lisa Sanders, CBS.MarketWatch.com
Last Update: 10:38 AM ET Aug. 19, 2003

DALLAS (CBS.MW) - Utility issues, laid low by last week`s blackout in the Northeast, attempted to stage a rally in early dealings Tuesday.

The Philadelphia Utility Index (UTY: news, chart, profile) was flat at 272.03 with the number of advancers outweighing decliners. FirstEnergy (FE: news, chart, profile), which has been blamed for the power outage, was the most active electric utility with volume of 1.1 million. The stock was off 10 cents to $27.65.

The company sought to defend itself Monday. See full story. Standard & Poor`s placed FirstEnergy`s "BBB" credit rating on watch for a downgrade.

The action "reflects Standard & Poor`s concern that the investigations into the massive power outages in the northeastern U.S. and Canada will further distract management from executing its strategy of de-leveraging," wrote analyst Aneesh Prabhu.

Meanwhile, Ivanhoe Energy (IVAN: news, chart, profile) and Beacon Power Corp. (BCON: news, chart, profile) continued to rise on the expectation they`ll benefit from the recent power crisis. See Energy Watch.

Ivanhoe jumped 14 cents, or 8.2 percent, to $1.84 on volume of 9.1 million, and Beacon surged 26 cents, or 28.2 percent, to $1.18.

Elsewhere in energy, oil service stocks rose 0.8 percent to 90.43, as reflected in the PSE Oil Service Index (OSX: news, chart, profile). The CBOE Oil Index (OIX: news, chart, profile) fell 0.2 percent to 274.12, and the Amex Natural Gas Index (XNG: news, chart, profile) was off 0.3 percent to 191.48.

In commodities trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange, energy futures trading was delayed until 10:45 a.m. Eastern time, according to a Nymex spokesman. No reason was given for the late start.

Ivanhoe Mines committed to long-term leadership role in controlling development of the Turquoise Hill copper and gold discovery in Mongolia`s South Gobi region
Monday September 8, 8:00 am ET

ULAANBAATAR, MONGOLIA, Sept. 8 /CNW/ - The following statement was issued today by Robert M. Friedland, Chairman and President of Ivanhoe Mines:
Ivanhoe Mines has discovered one of the world`s largest known gold and copper porphyry deposits at Turquoise Hill, better known to Mongolians as Oyu Tolgoi. It is a dynamic project, the scope of which is being broadened daily by 16 drilling rigs that are working around the clock, expanding the limits of the copper- and gold-rich Far North Zone and locating the high-grade roots of this extraordinary mineral system.

It is no surprise that a discovery of such significance is generating widespread interest in Ivanhoe`s ongoing planning for the development of our wholly-owned project into a major open-pit and underground mining complex. There is speculation within the international mining industry and in investment circles on a range of options that might be available to Ivanhoe and on whether and to what extent there will be a role for other companies and interests to become partners with Ivanhoe in some way, shape or form.

Interest in Turquoise Hill is very keen indeed among major mining companies around the world and governments in the Asia region. Many of these companies and governmental representatives have directly approached Ivanhoe on an unsolicited basis, wanting to know whether there are opportunities for them to participate in the development.

We are always willing to listen to good ideas and we remain cognizant of our fiduciary obligations to our shareholders to do our utmost to maximize the value of their investments. However, we remain convinced that the best opportunity for creating value for our shareholders is through a long-term commitment to Turquoise Hill. Our approach to all overtures that we receive from interested parties is based on the fundamental premise that Ivanhoe will continue to control the project and take the lead role in directing its development. We want to be the builder of Turquoise Hill, not the auctioneer. This is not Voisey`s Bay all over again.

Turquoise Hill is integral to Ivanhoe`s future. We intend to be around for the long term to fulfill our responsibilities, including ensuring that everything about this mining project is done right. The mine is being designed from the outset to meet international standards for environmental management and operational safety and health. At Turquoise Hill, we will demonstrate that it is possible to introduce sound mining practices to the South Gobi that will deliver on the region`s economic promise while respecting long-established cultural values. We also will ensure that the local people of the South Gobi region are involved in our planning from the beginning, and that they and their children benefit directly and indirectly from the development of the resources with which their land is blessed.

The depth of Ivanhoe`s commitment to these principles cannot be overstated.

Our plans to develop Turquoise Hill necessarily involve assessing available strategic alternatives, including the possibility of accepting one or more small minority investments from official, government-owned entities in the Asia region whose involvement could be profoundly beneficial to the project`s long-term success. At some point in the future, Ivanhoe also may choose to pursue a strategic option that could see the door opened to a participating minority interest by a qualified and appropriate company, or companies, with relevant experience and/or resources. The value of such a strategic partnership would have to be that it would contribute a dependable cash flow and additional corporate `bench strength` to help ensure our successful establishment of a mining complex at Turquoise Hill, and also accelerate our exploration programs and the development of additional deposits within the vast new mineral province that we have discovered in the South Gobi region. Ultimately, our strategic plans will be motivated by our determination to remain at the forefront of a burgeoning new mining industry in Mongolia. To that end, we will continue to consult closely with Mongolian government leaders on an ongoing basis as we advance our plans for Turquoise Hill.

While we weigh the alternatives open to us, we are protecting our position by requiring companies to sign strict confidentiality agreements before we grant them access to our data. We already have signed 16 agreements with international mining companies that have initiated unsolicited contacts with Ivanhoe Mines and agreed to our conditions. Our confidentiality agreements are designed to safeguard our control of Turquoise Hill and also to restrict other companies from acquiring mineral properties in our defined areas of interest in the South Gobi and from using our confidential information to launch hostile bids for control of Ivanhoe.

Based on the most recent independently verified drilling results and assays, we know that as of mid-July this year Turquoise Hill`s four distinct zones contained:

      - an estimated, inferred resource of 2.45 billion tonnes grading
0.61% copper and 0.14 gram of gold per tonne, at a 0.30% copper
equivalent cut-off, containing 15.1 million tonnes of copper and
      11.4 million ounces of gold;
      - plus an additional, indicated resource of 509 million tonnes grading
0.40% copper and 0.59 gram of gold per tonne, containing 2.1 million
tonnes of copper and 9.7 million ounces of gold, at the 0.30% cut-off
grade - based on more extensive drilling on just one of the project`s
      four known discovery zones.

This mineral treasure chest is located just 80 kilometres north of Mongolia`s border with China. China, as business leaders everywhere now recognize, is the world`s fastest growing hub of manufacturing activity, and the world`s largest consumer of copper concentrate and refined copper. Turquoise Hill is auspiciously positioned to become a convenient and very competitive supplier of choice to China`s smelters and factories.
We at Ivanhoe are committed to playing a pre-eminent role in the development of the South Gobi region, on both sides of the Mongolia-China border, in close partnership with the Mongolian government, and to continuing discussions with Chinese government organizations about the development of a mine at Turquoise Hill. We also are committed to supporting the initiatives for new cross-border transportation links pledged at the bilateral summit between Mongolian President Natsagiyn Bagabandi and Chinese President Hu Jintao on June 5, 2003, that could facilitate the future export of copper and gold to China and world markets.

Meanwhile, we are more than pleased with our ongoing exploration success in the region, where we are conducting what is currently the world`s largest drilling program by any mining company. One of our primary priorities is to ensure that we preserve for our shareholders this unique opportunity for our drilling to more completely identify the extent of the high-grade mineralization at Turquoise Hill. We firmly believe that this is the way to best succeed in our mission to realize the maximum marketplace value of the project for the benefit of our shareholders and the people of Mongolia.

There`s Gold, Copper in Them Thar Hills
Monday September 8, 12:13 pm ET

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Reuters) - Shares in Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (Toronto:IVN.TO - News) climbed more than 10 percent on Monday morning after the Toronto-listed miner revealed its most detailed plans to date for its potentially super-rich copper-gold deposit in Mongolia.
Chairman Robert Friedland said in a statement that Ivanhoe would keep a majority stake in the Turquoise Hill deposit, a drill-stage project on the border of copper-hungry China, but might sell an interest to another mining company or Asian state-owned firm.

An analyst said institutional investors could no longer ignore Ivanhoe, given its increasing market capitalization and growing, albeit early stage, estimates for gold and copper resources at the project.

"With these disclosures come a growing awareness of what is happening at Turquoise Hill," said an analyst who asked not to be identified.

"With a market value of over US$1 billion, it is very much more on the radar screens of funds," the analyst said.

Friedland, a well-known mining promoter, was attending a gold show in New York on Monday talking to potential investors about Turquoise Hill, which is regarded as one of the world`s biggest undeveloped gold and copper deposits.

Ivanhoe`s stock surged as high as C$7.20 on the Toronto Stock Exchange (News - Websites) early on Monday, its highest level in nearly six years and a gain of 10.7 percent, or 70 Canadian cents. By late morning it had eased back to C$7.01 for a market value of C$1.6 billion (US$1.2 billion).

      UPDATE A RESPONSE TO SPECULATION

Friedland said he had released the update on Turquoise Hill in response to mounting speculation about Ivanhoe`s plans for the deposit and to squash rumors that Ivanhoe will sell the whole project, which is also known as Oyu Tolgoi.

"We want to be the builder of Turquoise Hill, not the auctioneer. This is not Voisey`s Bay all over again," he said.

Friedland is best known in mining circles for his role in negotiating the 1996 sale of Voisey`s Bay, a vast nickel deposit in eastern Canada, to Inco Ltd. (Toronto:N.TO - News) for a hefty C$4.3 billion.

Sixteen confidentiality agreements have been signed with international mining companies, believed to include the world`s biggest mining group, Anglo-Australian BHP Billiton Ltd. (Australia:BHP.AX - News) and rival Rio Tinto Ltd. (Australia:RIO.AX - News) .

A source familiar with the talks told Reuters that Ivanhoe has also held limited discussions with some governments, notably the Chinese government, on the sale of a "very small" stake in the development in the south Gobi desert.

Latest estimates indicate that, at a 0.30 percent copper equivalent cut-off, Turquoise Hill contains an inferred resource of 15.1 million tonnes of copper and 11.4 million ounces of gold. An inferred resource is an early-stage estimate based on limited geological work.

They also reveal an indicated resource -- an estimate with greater certainty than an inferred calculation -- of 2.1 million tonnes of copper and nearly 10 million ounces of gold, at the same cut-off grade.

Australian copper-gold project to be acquired by Ivanhoe Mines` subsidiary
Tuesday September 30, 8:15 am ET

SYDNEY, Sept. 30 /CNW/ - Gordon Toll, Chairman of Ivanhoe Australia Pty. Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary company of Ivanhoe Mines, and Douglas Kirwin, Ivanhoe Mines` Executive Vice-President, Exploration announced today that a newly formed subsidiary of Ivanhoe Australia has purchased all of the Selwyn copper-gold project`s mining and exploration leases in Australia. An Asset Purchase Agreement has been signed, with the closing subject to the finalization of various Government formalities in connection with the transfer of the mining tenements and environmental permits. The Selwyn leases cover an area of more than 1,450 square kilometres, approximately 160 kilometres southeast of Mount Isa in northwestern Queensland.
Ivanhoe Australia is the holding company of Goldamere Pty. Ltd., the operator of the Savage River iron ore mine and Port Latta pellet plant in Tasmania. Goldamere has been producing iron ore pellets and concentrate at its Savage River integrated mining, pelletizing and shipping facilities in Tasmania, Australia, since 1997.

Ivanhoe Australia`s acquisition of the Selwyn mineral leases is the initial step in the company`s strategy to expand its Australian mining operations through the acquisition of advanced gold and copper projects with superior exploration potential. This strategy will provide the platform for Ivanhoe Australia to become an independent, diversified mining entity with direct access to capital markets in Australia and Canada.

Ivanhoe Australia plans to begin an extensive exploration program on the Selwyn property to test for extensions of the known high-grade mineralization and to test new targets already identified by Ivanhoe`s geologists that have the potential to host large, near-surface oxide copper deposits amenable to low-cost, heap-leach, SX/EW operations. Ivanhoe Australia also believes the area has the geological potential to host a large-scale, high-grade iron oxide copper and gold deposit similar to the Olympic Dam Mine in South Australia.

"The Selwyn district has been an important copper and gold producer for many years and this acquisition offers Ivanhoe Australia an excellent strategic exploration landholding in a large, highly mineralized copper and gold district," said Mr. Toll. "We believe that there is good potential to make significant new discoveries and to expand the known mineralization."

In addition to the Selwyn copper and gold deposits, the mineral belt hosts the Ernest Henry, Osborne and Eloise copper-gold mines.

"The tenement package acquired by Ivanhoe Australia covers some of the best mineralized Proterozoic terrains in northern Australia," said Mr. Kirwin. "The region is very under-explored and this opportunity is an excellent entry into the Australia exploration scene."

Ivanhoe Mines is an international mining company developing a major new discovery of copper and gold at its 100%-owned Turquoise Hill (Oyu Tolgoi) Project in southern Mongolia. Ivanhoe also has a large exploration program targeting gold and copper in Mongolia and China. Ivanhoe produces copper, gold and iron ore products from various mines in the Asia Pacific region.

      Strategic Review of Assets Ongoing

From time to time, Ivanhoe Mines reviews its international assets to ensure that their present and potential values can receive full and fair consideration to the benefit of shareholders. Ivanhoe`s Turquoise Hill copper- gold discovery and its principal exploration properties in Mongolia, and in the neighbouring Inner Mongolia region of northern China, now constitute Ivanhoe`s core holding and management`s primary focus.

Ivanhoe will continue to explore opportunities to rationalize assets, which could include spin-offs in the form of partial sales or joint ventures, to ensure that they receive the market recognition that they deserve.

Ivanhoe shares are listed on the Toronto and Australian stock exchanges under the symbol IVN. The company`s shares also trade in the U.S. on the Over the Counter Bulletin Board under the symbol IVHMF.

David Huberman joins Ivanhoe Mines` Board as lead director
Wednesday October 1, 8:30 am ET

SINGAPORE, Oct. 1 /CNW/ - Robert M. Friedland, Chairman of Ivanhoe Mines, today announced the appointment of David Huberman to the company`s Board of Directors as the lead independent director. In this newly created position, Mr. Huberman`s role is to ensure that the Board executes its mandate effectively, efficiently and independently of management.
"David is an excellent choice for the lead independent director. His many years of experience in securities and corporate law, together with his skills as a counselor and advisor, provide him with an understanding of issues that could impact Ivanhoe Mines," said Mr. Friedland. "We welcome David`s appointment as an opportunity to further strengthen our corporate governance procedures."

Mr. Huberman is President of Coda Consulting Corp., a law and business consulting firm based in Vancouver, Canada. Mr. Huberman practiced business law from 1972 until 1996, specializing in corporate, commercial, banking, securities and regulatory law. He has extensive domestic and international experience in the negotiation, structuring and financing of a variety of business enterprises.

Mr. Huberman is a graduate of the University of British Columbia (B.A. and LL.B.) and of Harvard Law School (LL.M.). Mr. Huberman was called to the bar in British Columbia in 1960 and was a full-time member of the Faculty of Law at the University of British Columbia from 1960 and 1972. Prior to establishing his own law and consultancy practice in April, 1993, Mr. Huberman was for many years a senior partner in the Vancouver law firm of Freeman and Company. From 1990 to 1993, he served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of Goodman, Freeman, Phillips and Vineberg (whose constituent law firms were based in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal), an international law firm with offices in New York, Hong Kong and Taipei.

Mr. Huberman`s appointment, which is subject to regulatory approval, brings the number of directors on the Ivanhoe Board to eight.

Mongolia puts Friedland back on the map

Ivanhoe Mines boss says his copper-gold find is `just too damn good` to sell
      By WENDY STUECK
      Saturday, October 4, 2003 - Page B3

VANCOUVER -- When Robert Friedland said last month that his Mongolian copper-gold discovery is "not Voisey`s Bay all over again," some interpreted his declaration as just another tactic in a master`s playbook.

After all, the skeptics said, Mr. Friedland arranged the sale of the Voisey`s Bay nickel deposit to Inco Ltd. for $4.3-billion (U.S.) after initially saying his company would develop the project.

This time, the renowned promoter says, things are different.

"The situation that we have in Mongolia is far superior to the situation that we had in Voisey`s Bay," he said recently, speaking from Hong Kong, en route to Mongolia.

Mr. Friedland -- founder, president and chairman of Ivanhoe Mines Ltd., the Vancouver-based company that owns the Turquoise Hill deposit in Mongolia -- said those who assume he`ll repeat history are ignoring key differences between Voisey`s Bay and Turquoise Hill, known as Oyu Tolgoi in Mongolia.

Developing Voisey`s Bay would have meant building a smelter, a condition Newfoundland demanded and that would have made the undertaking far more expensive than building a mine on its own. As well, he said, the Voisey`s Bay nickel deposit was a "one-off," a single mineral deposit. By contrast, he said, Ivanhoe geologists believe they have uncovered a mineral "province," a group of deposits that contain as yet unknown stores of copper and gold.

      Then there`s the China factor.

China`s copper consumption climbed by 21.6 per cent in the second quarter, and that was with the SARS outbreak at its peak. Automobile production is expected to increase by 25 per cent this year, and manufacturing of consumer goods such as televisions, radios and refrigerators, all containing copper, are expected to grow by a similar amount. Oyu Tolgoi is a copper deposit, 80 kilometres from the Chinese border and next to the biggest metals consumer in the world. Oh, and don`t forget that the Mongolians have revamped their mining legislation and are keen on building their economy.

"What we have, in short, is not for sale because it is just too damn good," Mr. Friedland said.

With one of his projects back in the spotlight, one might think Mr. Friedland is enjoying a comeback. But analysts, fund managers and fellow mining executives say he never really went away -- the broader investing public just stopped paying attention. Between scandals such as the Bre-X Minerals Ltd. hoax of 1997, the Asian Flu currency devaluation the same year and a dot-com boom of the late 1990s that sucked up investment capital, resource exploration plays lost their allure. Now, however, commodities and resource ventures are back in favour, a sea change analysts chalk up to factors that include a faltering U.S. greenback, Chinese industrial growth, geopolitical anxieties and low interest rates. The improved outlook for metals sent money streaming into mining ventures last year. In the first half of 2003, the value of equity financings for mining companies on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange climbed to $2.3-billion (Canadian), up 44 per cent from the $1.6-billion raised during the first half of last year.

The shift, and its timing, has been good for Mr. Friedland. Ivanhoe Mines acquired its Mongolia leases from BHP Billiton in 2000 and announced its first significant discovery in July, 2001. The project is still at an early stage, with none of its drilling results yet translated into proven or probable reserves. But early results point to a big deposit, with most recent results indicating potentially richer grades that would put it on par with some of the world`s top producing copper mines. The speculation has helped propel Ivanhoe Mine shares up 137 per cent this year. The stock closed yesterday on the TSX at $8.10.

Renewed interest in commodities has also been good for another company in the Friedland stable, Ivanhoe Energy Inc. Mr. Friedland is deputy chairman of the Vancouver-based company, which recently announced that a subsidiary was preparing to drill the first of more than 100 oil wells planned in China. Ivanhoe Energy`s stock has risen by 406 per cent this year. The stock closed yesterday on the TSX at $3.81. Mr. Friedland owns 40.5 per cent of Ivanhoe Mines and just under 30 per cent of Ivanhoe Energy, making his combined stake in the two companies worth, on paper, about $979-million.

Mr. Friedland said he continues to explore, raise money and do deals around the globe because he enjoys it. Similarly, he said he and long-time associates, such as Ivanhoe Mines deputy chairman and director Edward Flood, are looking forward to becoming operators at Oyu Tolgoi because they have decided they are in the right place at the right time in the mining cycle.

"As we have gotten older we have sort of decided we would like to hang out in countries that we enjoy and work with people that we enjoy working with," he said. "In fact that is almost the only definition of success that I can think of, is that you get to choose who you hang around with. So we have a very, very great deal of affinity for the Mongolian people, we really love being here."

Fans of Mr. Friedland refer often to his passion and commitment, as well as his ability to make millions for investors. Detractors focus on his unsuccessful promotions, such as a Venezuelan gold play in the 1990s, and the controversial saga of Galactic Resources Corp.

Galactic, Mr. Friedland`s first publicly listed Canadian company, developed the Summitville gold mine in Colorado which operated between 1986 and 1992. Technical failures at the mine and drainage from previous mine workings resulted in toxic contaminants being discharged into nearby watersheds. Those problems triggered a flurry of lawsuits and countersuits between Galactic and Colorado and U.S. agencies. Mr. Friedland had resigned all of his executive positions by 1990, and owned less than 5 per cent of the company when it went bankrupt in 1993. After years of legal wrangling, Mr. Friedland in December, 2000, reached a voluntary settlement with the United States and Colorado. As part of the settlement Mr. Friedland paid $20-million (U.S.) toward restoration of the Alamosa River watershed. The United States and Colorado acknowledged "no one person or entity" was solely responsible for environmental problems at Summitville. Ivanhoe Mines has also been criticized over its stake in Monywa, a copper mine it operates through a joint venture with a government-owned firm in Myanmar, formerly Burma. Critics have called on Ivanhoe Mines to stop operating in the country, where Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace Prize winner and pro-democracy leader, has been detained since May 30.

Mr. Friedland repeated what has been the company`s consistent position: That it supports democratic reforms in Myanmar and that its operations provide important economic and social benefits.

"We have built schools and hospitals and support two major regional hospitals that serve a population of about four million people. We have engaged in an anti-Dengue fever campaign, we have an ISO 14001 environmental certification and our mine there is one of the lowest cost and most efficient copper producers in the world," he said. "Our wishes for Burma to make progress are very sincere," he added. "And we think we probably do a hell of a lot more good by staying there than by leaving."

There have been reports that Ivanhoe could sell some of its assets as its Mongolia venture begins to play a bigger role in the company. Mr. Friedland said Ivanhoe Mines is constantly reviewing its assets, and that sales or spin offs may occur.

The company yesterday declined to comment on reports that Monywa could be sold to Chinese interests. From the perspective of many of today`s investors, Galactic and Monywa are irrelevant compared with Ivanhoe`s prospects in Mongolia. Some observers point to the preliminary nature of exploration results and the challenges of building a mine in the remote location.

"From a financial standpoint, the depth and grade is going to make the costs quite large," said John Ing, a gold analyst and president of Maison Placements Canada Inc. "And the isolation means the infrastructure is also all-important."

Those who believe in Mr. Friedland`s vision say China is so eager for copper feedstock for its smelters that it will do everything it can to help bring a mine into production.

Rohit Sehgal, a fund manager and investment strategist with Toronto-based Dynamic Mutual Funds Ltd., travelled this year to Mongolia and China with Mr. Friedland. Mr. Sehgal runs the Dynamic Power Canadian Growth Fund, which owns shares in Ivanhoe Energy and Ivanhoe Mines. Mr. Sehgal said his group stopped at one point in Baotou, a city of nearly two million people in northern China. He left with two overriding impressions: the incredible amount of industrial activity going on in a city that he`d never heard of and the welcome accorded to Mr. Friedland and his team by Chinese officials.

"They gave him a reception that only heads of state get," Mr. Sehgal said. "The Chinese are dying for copper feed. They will build roads for him, they will give him power -- they are all over him, it`s `give us a list and we will get it done for you.` "

Regardless of the eventual size of the Turquoise Hill deposit -- or who winds up bringing it into production -- Mr. Friedland has put Mongolia on the map of mining hot spots in a way it hadn`t been before.

      Gold rush

Financing activity in the mining sector has surged this year.

Ivanhoe raises $50 million for Mongolia project
Friday October 17, 10:58 am ET

      (In U.S. dollars unless noted)
VANCOUVER, British Columbia , Oct 17 (Reuters) - Toronto-listed Ivanhoe Mines (Toronto:IVN.TO - News) said on Friday it had raised $50 million in equity in a private placement with institutions, with the money to be used largely to advance its big Turquoise Hill copper and gold project in Mongolia.

Ivanhoe said the funds, raised through the issue of special warrants entitling holders to shares, would be used for ongoing resource-definition drilling, development planning and feasibility studies at Turquoise Hill. Some would also fund the firm`s Asian exploration programs and for corporate purposes.

Turquoise Hill, or Oyu Tolgoi, is regarded as one of the world`s biggest undeveloped copper-gold porphyry deposits. Located near the Chinese border, it was discovered in 2001.

The Singapore-headquartered firm now has about $91 million in cash and investments, it said.

Ivanhoe shares were at C$10.10, down 55 Canadian cents, on the Toronto Stock Exchange (News - Websites) on Friday morning.

Ivanhoe shares soar after royalty buy from BHP
Monday November 3, 3:43 pm ET

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Nov 3 (Reuters) - Shares in Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (Toronto:IVN.TO - News) leapt 18 percent to yet another new high on Monday after the company clinched a deal that gives it complete control over all aspects of a huge copper and gold deposit in Mongolia.

An analyst who asked not to be identified said that, in addition to this news, the market was also looking ahead to the planned releases later this month of an updated resource estimate and a scoping study on the Turquoise Hill project.

A spokesman for Ivanhoe said both reports would probably be released in the second half of November.

Ivanhoe`s shares were up C$2.25 or 18 pecent at C$14.95 on Monday afternoon after touching a fresh high of C$14.98.

Ivanhoe shares have soared more than 300 percent so far this year on the Toronto Stck Exchange on market enthusiasm over Turquoise Hill, which is regarded as one of the world`s biggest undeveloped gold and copper deposits.

The firm, which is headquartered in Singapore, said on Monday it had reached an agreement with a unit of BHP Billiton Ltd. (Australia:BHP.AX - News; London:BLT.L - News) to buy the Anglo-Australian mining giant`s 2 percent net smelter return royalty in the Turquoise Hill venture.

Ivanhoe said the trigger for the purchase was the understanding that an unnamed mining party was trying to buy the potential revenue stream from BHP. Ivanhoe had a right of first refusal on the royalty.

It was not clear why BHP chose to sell the royalty but Ivanhoe will pay $37 million for it. The royalty was the only portion of the project in the south Gobi Desert that Ivanhoe did not already own.

Ivanhoe acquired the Turquoise Hill project from BHP early last year. BHP had conducted initial exploration work on the property between 1996 and 1998.

MarketWatch.com`s Calandra Resigns Amid SEC Trading Probe

      By TSC Staff
      01/22/2004 03:35 PM EST

MarketWatch.com (MKTW:Nasdaq - commentary - research) said the Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating the trading activities of controversial columnist Thom Calandra, and that Calandra has resigned.

The online business news Web site said it began its own probe into Calandra`s trading activities one day learning of the SEC investigation, which began in December. As a columnist, Calandra -- who won a devoted following on the financial news Web site with prescient calls on the gold and other metals -- was allowed to own individual stocks as long as he disclosed his holdings to readers.

"While we have made a very clear distinction that Thom provides commentary and opinion in his newsletter and does not report business news, Thom was required to abide by our internal trading policies and fully disclose his activities to his readers and subscribers," the company said in a statement. "We have a responsibility to our readers and subscribers to cooperate with the SEC in its determination of whether or not Thom violated these policies."

A company representative wasn`t immediately available.

Eyebrows were raised last month when Barron`s reported that Calandra had traveled to China and Mongolia at the expense of Ivanhoe Energy (IVAN:NASDAQ - commentary - research), a tiny Canadian oil stock whose shares went from 32 cents a year ago to the low-$7 range in November. Calandra`s columns on the stock, in which he acknowledged an ownership stake, contributed to its rally, which has recently tailed off.

Calandra, who couldn`t immediately be reached, is quoted on the MarketWatch Web site saying: "I`ve worked hard for the past eight years helping to build MarketWatch and for the last year I`ve worked hard creating The Calandra Report. While it`s been tremendously rewarding professionally, it has also been stressful. And the SEC`s informal inquiry adds to this stress. So I`ve decided to take this time off to focus on my family, whom I adore. I look forward to the conclusion of the SEC`s inquiry."

MarketWatch shares were recently down $1.44, or 13.7%, to $9.49. The company said it, too, has received an informal request for documents related to the Calandra probe, a request with which it is cooperating

BAKERSFIELD, CA, Jan. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - David Martin, Chairman of Ivanhoe Energy Inc., announced today that initial oil and gas production has commenced at the Citrus No. 1 well, Ivanhoe`s first horizontal well in the Citrus Prospect area. Stabilized initial production rates for the well are 210 barrels of 34 degree API oil per day and 195 Mcf of gas per day. The Citrus No. 1 well extends the southern productive area of the large Lost Hills field in California`s prolific San Joaquin Basin. Ivanhoe is the operator and owns interests ranging between 83% and 100% in leases comprising the Citrus Prospect, covering 2560 acres.

The initial production through a 35/64-inch choke is yielding 2,000 barrels of total fluid per day, 210 barrels of 34 degree API oil per day and 195 Mcf of gas per day with a flowing tubing pressure of 270 Psig at the surface. At nearby offsetting vertical wells owned by other companies, reported stabilized initial production rates averaged 125 barrels of oil per day and 300 Mcf of gas per day with a water cut of about 80%. Water production, along with oil and gas, is standard in this field.

A total horizontal section of more than 1,900 feet was drilled at Citrus No. 1 at a vertical depth of 7,750 feet in the Antelope Shale formation, an important producing zone in offsetting wells. A high volume fracture stimulation was successfully performed on the well in mid January. The fracture treatment utilized an innovative technique that has been successfully applied in the nearby North Shafter and Rose fields. The well was cleaned out to bottom and placed on production Wednesday, January 28, 2004, into offsetting sales facilities.

The contracted oil price for the Citrus field is Belridge light type crude minus a US$0.30 per barrel gathering and handling fee (the current net oil price is US$31.70 per barrel). The gas price is the Southern California border price minus 20% for processing and handling (the current net gas price is US$4.64 per Mcf).

Continued successful production from Citrus No. 1 could justify as many as 25 additional horizontal-drilling locations in the Citrus Prospect area. The presence of five stacked, multiple oil zones in this well could justify multilateral horizontal well bores in future wells. The other four potentially productive oil zones in the Citrus No. 1 well have not been tested at this time, but they do produce in offsetting wells.

Ivanhoe Energy trades on the NASDAQ with the symbol IVAN and on the Toronto Stock Exchange with the symbol IE.

      Supplemental Information:

Each horizontal well at the Citrus project, with a lateral extension of 1,900 feet, is expected to cost approximately US$1.8 million, about 50% more than a vertical well. The Antelope Shale is of Upper Miocene age, and there are many fields producing from this formation elsewhere in the San Joaquin basin. Hydraulic fracturing, or fracing, is a well-stimulation method that increases productivity by creating a highly conductive fracture in the formation extending some distance away from the well bore.

Eine Stimme aus den USA (RG-Board):

The Ensyn deal is important because it demonstrates the essential seriousness of Ivanhoe Energy`s effort in the reclamation area. The technology is extremely valuable because it allows explorers to go back to wells that they know still have substantial reserves that have becme unpumpable and to renew the flow of oil from them. The oil is still valued at the same price as other oil and the writeoffs for the depreciated well make it almost free to the producer. For foreign producers such as China, it means greater efficiency when efficiency is at a premium. Moreover, there is the value of the technology itself to Ensyn, which could become highly profitable as more companies take advantage of its technologies and ithus increases its own value to the Ivanhoe bottom line - something most traders have not looked at. This is a great area to be in and more proof that Ivanhoe is in this business for the long term and it shows that Ivanhoe intends to mature as a major player.
