HAMBURG (dpa-AFX) - Rund zwei Jahre nach dem Ende des Internet-Booms setzen Wissenschaftler, Risikokapitalgeber und Analysten auf ein neues Zugpferd: die Nanotechnologie. Benannt nach dem altgriechischen Wort "nanos" für "Zwerg" bringt diese Querschnittstechnologie, in der Erkenntnisse aus allen Naturwissenschaften zusammenkommen, die Augen von Forschern und Ökonomen gleichermaßen zum Leuchten. "Das wirtschaftliche Potenzial ist sehr groß", sagt Burkhard Brinkmann von der britischen Wagniskapitalfirma 3i . Schon in wenigen Jahren werde Nanotechnologie zahlreiche Lebensbereiche berühren. Die DZ-Bank in Frankfurt spricht in einer Studie gar von der "Next Economy".
Ein Nanometer (millionstel Millimeter) verhält sich zu einem Meter wie eine Kirsche und zur Erde. In dieser "Zwergenwelt" arbeiten Wissenschaftler an Strukturen aus Molekülen und Atomen mit maßgeschneiderten Eigenschaften. Die Nanotechnik soll zu zahlreichen neuen Produkten führen. Dazu gehören korrosionsbeständigerer Stahl, leistungsfähigere Speicherchips, wasser- und schmutzabweisende Oberflächen sowie stromsparende Displays.
`GOLDRICHTIGER ZEITPUNKT ZUM INVESTIEREN`
Bereits 2001, schätzt der Verband Deutscher Ingenieure, hatte der weltweite Nano-Markt ein Umsatzvolumen von rund 54 Milliarden Euro. In der laufenden Dekade könnte dieser Markt um jährlich rund 17 Prozent wachsen, sagt Chemieanalyst Martin Rödiger von der DZ-Bank in Frankfurt am Main. "Jetzt ist ein goldrichtiger Zeitpunkt, um in Nanotechnologie zu investieren", meint Berndt Samsinger, Leiter der Nanotechnologie-Gruppe im Capital-Stage-Konzern. Zahlreiche Innovationen kämen derzeit ins Stadium kommerzieller Anwendungen, viele Basispatente seien bereits vergeben.
Nach Ansicht von Analyst Rödiger wird die Nanotechnologie in fünf bis zehn Jahren die Chemieindustrie und ihre Abnehmerbranchen Medizin, Informationstechnologie, Optik und Konsum maßgeblich beeinflussen. "Die Nanotechnologie führt zu einer neuen Qualität von Innovationen", sagt er. Noch sei ihr Anteil am Geschäft der großen Unternehmen zu gering, um sich in deren Aktienkursen widerzuspiegeln, aber das werde sich mittelfristig ändern. Schon 2000 habe der Chemiekonzern Degussa rund 2,5 Milliarden Euro mit Produkten umgesetzt, die auf Nano-Bausteinen beruhten. In Zukunft würden Innovationsschübe infolge der Nanotechnologie dafür sorgen, dass Konzerne wie Degussa , BASF (Xetra: 515100.DE - Nachrichten - Forum) oder Henkel (Xetra: 604843.DE - Nachrichten - Forum) unabhängiger von konjunkturellen Schwankungen würden.

Viele kleinere Nanotechnologie-Unternehmen erwirtschaften ihre Umsätze derzeit mit so genannten Nanopartikeln. In den USA hat etwa Nanophase Technologies (NASDAQ: NANX - Nachrichten) , eines der wenigen börsennotierten Unternehmen der Branche, mit Nanoteilchen aus Zinkoxiden ein neues Sonnenschutzmittel vorgestellt.
In Deutschland ist unter anderem die Firma Nanogate aus Saarbrücken mit Produkten am Markt. Ihre nanotechnische Antihaft- Beschichtung schützt die Sanitärkeramik des Badezimmer-Ausstatters Duravit vor Schmutz. Und Kunden der Schweizer Optik können sich über kratzfeste Lupen und Kunststoffgläser freuen. "Insgesamt stecken rund 15 Millionen Euro Wagniskapital in Nanogate", sagt 3i-Direktor Brinkmann. 2001 hat Nanogate den Umsatz nach eigenen Angaben um 60 Prozent auf vier Millionen Euro gesteigert, bis 2004 wollen die Saarbrücker schwarze Zahlen schreiben.

Ich kenne diese news und hege auch schon den Verdacht, dass darin des Rätsels Lösung versteckt ist:

Warum sollte sich JP Morgan nicht auch bei TINY beteiligen und über die Börse zukaufen, wenn man bei OPTIVA vielleicht Mal eine IPO begleiten kann ?
Denn wohin dann (nach einer IPO) TINY geht, ist wohl jedem klar.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 2003--Harris & Harris Group, Inc. announced today that it has invested $750,000 as part of a $9.2 million Convertible Preferred financing of privately held NanoGram Devices Corporation (www.nanogramdevices.com).
Shareholders of Harris & Harris Group may be interested in reading the NanoGram Devices Corporation press release dated January 31, 2003 for more details. In that press release, NanoGram Devices notes that Ken Westrick, former Chief Executive Officer of New Focus, Inc. and a member of the board of directors of NeoPhotonics, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of NanoGram Devices.
The press release also notes that other investors in the financing included Venrock Associates, Nth Power Technologies, Bay Partners, Rockport Capital Partners and SBV Ventures Partners. NanoGram Devices is a spinoff of privately held NeoPhotonics Corporation (www.neophotonics.com). Harris & Harris Group invested $1,000,000 in NeoPhotonics in March of 2002.
NanoGram Devices has developed and is commercializing specialized power sources for medical devices and other medical equipment based on its patented, laser-based nanomaterial synthesis technology.
Harris & Harris Group is a publicly traded venture capital company. The Company`s last nine private equity investments have been in tiny-technology enabled companies.
