Qualcomm shares dropped as much as 7% after hours, following a 4.1% decline to close at $112.50 in the regular session. In late July, the San Diego-based chip maker cut its forecast because of weakness in the smartphone market that had yet to creep into the premium handset market.

“We are pleased to report another strong year, despite the macroeconomic challenges, as we continue to execute our strategy of transforming Qualcomm from a wireless communications company for the mobile industry to a connected processor company for the intelligent edge,” said Cristiano Amon, president and chief executive of Qualcomm, in a statement.

Qualcomm forecast first-quarter earnings of $3 to $3.30 a share on revenue of $9.2 billion to $10 billion, while the Street estimated $3.43 a share on revenue of $12.02 billion.

“While our financial outlook is being temporarily impacted by elevated channel inventory, our diversification strategy and long-term opportunities remain unchanged,” Amon said.

The company reported fiscal fourth-quarter net income of $2.87 billion, or $2.54 a share, compared with $2.8 billion, or $2.45 a share, in the year-ago period. The chip maker reported adjusted earnings, which exclude stock-based compensation expenses and other items, of $3.13 a share, compared with $2.55 a share in the year-ago period. Total revenue for the third quarter rose to $11.4 billion from $9.34 billion in the year-ago period.

China has big problems with the heat and COVID in ChongQing. Many plants for chip production had to shut down for several days due to power shortage in ChongQing and the Sichuan region. This maybe can last longer. This is effecting the Lithium production, too. New shortages for mobile phones, houshold equipments, EV batteries.

• Qualcomm reported third-quarter earnings after the bell on Wednesday, slightly beating Wall Street expectations, but guidance for the current quarter was short of consensus expectations.

• Qualcomm’s biggest line of business is selling processors and modems for smartphones. The company’s handset business grew 59% on an annual basis to $6.15 billion.

• Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said in a statement that the company’s results were strong despite facing a “challenging macroeconomic environment.”

Um bei den entscheidenden Chip-Technologien etwa für die eigenen Großprojekte Artemis oder Trinity gegenüber Konkurrenten wie Tesla mithalten zu können, will VW (Volkswagen (VW) vz) die Systeme von Anfang an mitplanen. "Es geht uns weniger um ein komplett eigenes Chipdesign", erläuterte Hofmockel jedoch. "Es geht im nächsten Schritt eher um ein Co-Design zwischen Auto- und Halbleiterherstellern - also darum, auf Augenhöhe gemeinsam zu definieren, welche Systeme am besten funktionieren."

VW hat Bosch und den US-Chipkonzern QUALCOMMals Partner ausgewählt. Verfolgt werde ein Stufenplan, sagte Hofmockel. "In der Kooperation mit Qualcomm greifen wir zunächst auf bestehende Chipdesigns zurück, die in das VW-Betriebssystem integriert werden. Später wird dann die Entwicklung maßgefertigter Chips stärker im Vordergrund stehen."

In den nächsten Generationen kämen immer kleinere Hochleistungschips zum Einsatz. "Das Auto der Zukunft ist ein High-Performance-Computer auf Rädern. Dafür benötigen wir eine enorm hohe Rechenleistung bei gleichzeitig möglichst niedrigem Stromverbrauch", erklärte Hofmockel.
