T-Systems and BluePhoenix Signed a Master Agreement for IDMS to DB2 Migrations

Expected Revenue to BluePhoenix is $30 Million Over the Next Five Years
FRANKFURT, Germany and HERZLIA, Israel, January 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BluePhoenix Solutions, (NASDAQ: BPHX - News), the leader in Enterprise IT Modernization, and T-Systems Enterprise Services GmbH (T-Systems), one of the largest providers of IT and Network solutions, announced today that they have signed a framework agreement to address the legacy modernization needs of a large German enterprise. BluePhoenix, acting as subcontractor for T-Systems, will migrate the legacy databases to modern relational standard databases. The migration will be performed using the automated BluePhoenix(TM) DBMSMigrator for IDMS tool.

The T-Systems customer has been using COBOL IDMS Batch/On-Line (DB/DC) programs and IDMS DB records in its various enterprise applications. As part of a cost saving plan, the combined solution of BluePhoenix automated technology and T-Systems experienced consulting team will migrate the databases and programs to modern COBOL Batch/CICS applications on RDBMS DB2.

Under the terms of the agreement, T-Systems will manage and implement the project segments ordered by their client while BluePhoenix will provide its unique line of IT modernization tools for the understanding and migration of the IDMS systems. Based on discussions with T-Systems and the timeline for their client to sign purchase orders, the expected total scope for these project segments is estimated at $25 million over the five year master agreement. The contract has an optional extension of two years.

TEL AVIV, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Israel`s BluePhoenix Solutions (BPHX.TA: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Thursday it had signed an agreement to act as a subcontractor for a Deutsche Telekom (DTEGn.DE: Quote, Profile, Research) subsidiary on a modernisation project at a large German enterprise.

BluePhoenix (BPHX.O: Quote, Profile, Research) said it expected revenue from the project to total $30 million over the next five years. The contract has an optional extension of two years.

BluePhoenix will migrate the unidentified client`s legacy computer databases to modern standard databases.

Deutsche Telekom`s T-Systems will manage and implement the project segments ordered by the client, while BluePhoenix as a subcontractor will provide information technology modernisation tools for the understanding and migration of the systems.

BluePhoenix makes software that enables companies to automate the process of modernising and upgrading their mainframe and IT infrastructure.

Migration From Mainframe ADABAS/Natural to Java/J2EE to Improve Efficiency and Productivity of Services for Country`s Local Authorities


HERZLIA, Israel, January 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BluePhoenix Solutions (NASDAQ: BPHX - News), the leader in Enterprise IT Modernization announced that it was selected by Israel Local Authorities Data Processing Center (LADPC) to perform a major migration of its Accounts Receivable Collection, Finance, and Human Resource/Payroll applications. The $2.25 million migration project is part of LADPC`s $6.7 million service bureau upgrade. The migration from mainframe and ADABAS/Natural environment to a modern Java/Unix environment will allow LADPC to benefit from the advantages of relational databases, reduce maintenance costs associated with the mainframe, and provide a powerful Web-based graphical user interface to their customers. The project will be performed using the BluePhoenix(TM) IT Discovery, BluePhoenix(TM)DBMSMigrator for ADABAS/Natural and BluePhoenix(TM) PlatformMigrator tools.

Using BluePhoenix`s custom automated tools and proven methodology, LADPC will migrate its ADABAS database to both Oracle database and Microsoft SQL Server, and convert Natural programs to Java/J2EE. The project involves converting LADPC`s existing VSE applications to both Unix and Windows open environment platforms. The user interface will be migrated from 3270 character-based user interface to HTML/JSP Web graphical user interface. BluePhoenix will migrate two applications within 12 months and will complete the whole project within a year and half.

LADPC decided to perform this migration project as part of their larger plan to standardize their in-house IT architecture, some of which has been in use for nearly three decades. This is a step towards their mission to provide improved services to their customers that mainly consist of the local and regional municipalities in Israel.

The conversion project is based on Bluephoenix`s proprietary technology and successful methodology that has been proven in numerous projects and will be performed using BluePhoenix`s automated tools. The BluePhoenix(TM) IT Discovery tool is used to perform the global assessment and understanding of the current applications. The BluePhoenix(TM) DBMSMigrator for ADABAS/Natural is then used to perform the Natural code migration to Java/J2EE and to convert the ADABAS database model and data to the new relational database. The BluePhoenix(TM) PlatformMigrator is used to perform the platform migration from the VSE Mainframe to Unix/Windows.
