Philip Morris: Gewinn steigt um 18,5%

New York (BoerseGo.de) - Die weltweit zu den größten Tabakprodukte-Herstellern zählende Philip Morris International hat in ihrem vierten Geschäftsjahresquartal beim bereinigten Gewinn je Aktie ein zweistelliges Plus erwirtschaftet. Wie der Konzern heute mitteilte, ist ein bereinigter Gewinn je Aktie von zuletzt 97 US-Cents erzielt worden. Marktanalaysten erwarteten im Durchschnitt ein Ergebnis in gleicher Höhe. Gegenüber dem Vorjahresquartal konnte Philip Morris damit ohne Währungseffekte um rund 18,5 Prozent zulegen. 2009 erzielte man noch einen Gewinn je Aktie von 81 US-Cents.

Auch beim Umsatz konnte Philip Morris mit zuletzt 7,0 Milliarden US-Dollar um 5,4 Prozent zulegen, wenn Währungseffekte außen vor bleiben.

Für 2011 sieht der Konzern einen Gewinn je Aktie im Bereich von 4,35 bis 4,45 US-Dollar voraus. Dies wäre ein Zuwachs gegenüber dem bereinigten Ergebnis im Jahr 2010 von 10,0 bis 12,5 Prozent.

Philip Morris-Titel handeln aktuell mit 0,5 Prozent leicht im Minus.

Philip Morris breaks ground for new factory

Philip Morris Korea broke ground on Monday for new production lines in Yangsan, South Gyeongsang Province, just next to its existing factory.

The Seoul-based company announced that it plans to channel 190 billion won ($170 million) in order to complete the environmentally friendly facility during the first half of 2012.

Then, the conventional facilities built in Yangsan back in 2002 will move to merge with the fresh plant, which will double Philip Morris Korea’s annual production capacity from today’s 15 billion cigarettes to 30 billion.

Philip Morris Managing Director Roman Militsyn said in a speech during the ground-breaking ceremony that the company will be able to increase exports thanks to the extended capacity.

Currently, the company funnels more than 95 percent of its made-in-Korea products to the domestic market exporting a mere 4 percent.

``By establishing this new factory, Philip Morris Korea will contribute to the local and national economy by not only investing in facilities and creating jobs, but also by expanding relationships with local businesses and by furthering exports of finished products to other countries,’’ Militsyn said.

``Philip Morris Korea will further strengthen social contribution activities and employee volunteer activities in Yangsan to maintain close ties with the local community.’’

Equipped with cutting-edge automated machinery, the Yangsan factory will accommodate all the facilities necessary, from processing raw material to packaging the final products.

The state-of-the-art plant will also be eco-friendly, designed to substantially reduce the carbon emission as well as the amount of waste, according to Philip Morris Korea.

Those participating in the ceremony included Philip Morris International’s (PMI) Asia Region head Matteo Pallegrini, PMI Senior Vice President of Operations Martin King, Yangsan Mayor Na Dong-yeon and Yangsan Council Chairman Kim Dong-jae.

``Philip Morris Korea and Yangsan’s eight-year cooperative relationship is a model relationship between a corporation and a local community. Based on this trust, I am pleased about the expansion in investment and hope for sustainable cooperative relations,’’ Yangsan Mayor Na said.

Philip Morris Korea was founded in 1989 and boasts impressive growth in Asia’s No. 4 economy over the past two decades to carve out roughly 17 percent of the market as of this August.

The Board of Directors of Philip Morris International Inc. (NYSE Euronext Paris: PM) today increased the company's regular quarterly dividend by 10.3%, to an annualized rate of $2.56 per common share.

The new quarterly dividend of $0.64 per common share, up from $0.58 per common share, is payable on October 8, 2010, to stockholders of record as of September 24, 2010. The ex-dividend date is September 22, 2010.
