Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) said it has postponed BP’s LNG delivery for the later part of the year, denying having problems with payments for the LNG cargo.
Reuters initially cited sources as saying the delivery to Egypt has been pushed to October, after British Sapphire LNG carrier spent a fortnight waiting to unload its cargo at Ain Sokhna before being diverted to Brazil on January 7. The reason was reportedly a previously unpaid cargo.
In a response to Reuters, EGAS chairman Khaled Abdel Badie denied these reports, saying that the delivery was postponed for the country’s peak season. He added that Egypt is looking to charter a third FSRU during the first quarter of 2016.
It was reported in December last year that Egypt struggled to pay for the LNG cargoes it imports within the agreed 15-day period after unloading and sought to extend the period to 90 days.
Late payments were a result of Egypt’s weakening tourism sector, depleting foreign currency reserves and Central Bank’s reluctance to help cover the costs of LNG imports.
Egypt’s debt so far has risen to around US$500 million and in the case of BP cargoes deliveries are postponed for up to nine months.
However, the country is looking to secure funds from the World Bank, China and other institutions in the coming months.

Hoegh LNG Partners says to restate earnings
New York-listed Hoegh LNG Partners, a unit of Hoegh LNG, informed on Wednesday it is planning to restate more than two years of financial reports as they should not be relied upon.
The Partnership said the restatement decision comes following the review of certain Indonesian withholding and value added tax payments for the years of 2013, 2014 and the first half of 2015.
The impact of the restatement of the withholding and value added taxes will also affect recognition of certain revenue for reimbursable tax amounts, recognition of the direct financing lease and amortization of deferred debt issuance cost, Hoegh LNG Partners said.
As a result of the identified accounting errors, Hoegh LNG Partners expects to report a material weakness in its internal control over financial reporting.
The Partnership added it is covered by Höegh LNG Holding for all non-budgeted, non-creditable Indonesian value added taxes and non-budgeted Indonesian withholding taxes, including any related impact on cash flow, arising out of such restatement.
If an indemnification payment is received from HLNG, the amount will be recorded as a contribution to equity, the company said.
Hoegh LNG Partners was formed by Norway’s Hoegh LNG to own, operate and acquire FSRUs , LNG carriers and other LNG infrastructure assets under long-term charters.

Baupost Group buys Hoegh LNG shares for clients
The Baupost Group said it has acquired 200,000 shares in Norway’s Höegh LNG on behalf of several clients.Following the transaction, the aggregate shareholding in HLNG over which Baupost is authorized to exercise voting rights on a discretionary basis amounts to 3,677,467 shares, equaling 5.26 % of the issued shares and votes in HLNG, the company said in a statement.
No single client of Baupost holds more than 5 % in HLNG after the acquisition, it added.
