HSBC signs credit line agreement with Bank of China

This agreement establishes their first bilateral three billion renminbi (RMB) credit line which will allow HSBC in mainland China additional access to RMB funding. The agreement also covers co-operation between the two banks in the areas of training and market research.

Sir John said: "We are proud of our partnership with the Bank of China. This agreement is an exciting result of China`s latest move to liberalise the RMB market and marks a milestone in the co-operation between HSBC and the Bank of China. It will provide us with access to significant RMB funding to enable us to expand our business in mainland China and better serve our customers` needs."

In mainland China, HSBC has the largest branch network amongst foreign banks - comprising 12 branches and 8 representative offices - and provides the most comprehensive banking services in the China market. In addition, HSBC was one of the first to receive licences to conduct RMB business in Shanghai and Shenzhen.
