Kinder to buy Tejas from Shell venture for $750mln

HOUSTON,Dec 17 (Reuters) - Pipeline operator Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP (NYSE:KMP) on Monday said it was buying Tejas Gas, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell and Bechtel Corp`s joint venture InterGen for about $750 million in cash, in a move to widen its reach in Texas.
The Houston-based company also said it now expects to earn $2.65 per share in 2002, up from previously announced levels of $2.40 and $2.50.
The deal, which Kinder said will add to earnings, comes on the heels Kinder Morgan`s announcement on December 12 that it planned to buy the portion of the pipeline company that it does not already own from a unit of Enron Corp. (NYSE:ENE).
Tejas Gas, with a 3,400-mile natural gas intrastate pipeline system has a transportation capactiy of 3.5 billion cubic feet per day.
Intergen is 70 percent owned by Royal Dutch Shell.

LONDON, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Royal Bank of Scotland Plc said on Monday that its bad debt charge would increase, but added it expected results to continue to meet market forecasts.
Shares in the leading British bank were recently hit by concerns over its exposure to collapsed U.S. utility group Enron Corp (NYSE:ENE), and Royal Bank said in a statement that "certain specific customer situations" had contributed to its higher bad debt charge.
However, the bank added its overall credit quality remained strong and that it expected income growth for the second half to exceed that of the first half.
