solche Nachrichten sind einfach super und heizen die Fantasy noch mehr an. Überhaupt scheint HK als Anlaufhafen für China derzeit wieder stark im kommen zu sein und andere Finanzplätze verblassen vor Neid.

H.K. share prices up 2.74% to record high

-- Hong Kong`s Hang Seng Index closed at a record high 17,758.76 on Monday, up 473.52 points, or 2.74%, largely on the rally on Wall Street on Friday.

Heavy buying of telecommunications and Internet-related stocks also helped lift the Hang Seng Index, which temporarily touched a record intraday high of 17,855.21.

Turnover was valued at HK$20.9 billion (US$2.7 billion).

The last closing high was 17,380.30 recorded Feb. 11.

Adrian Ngan, head of research at BNP Prime Peregrine Securities Ltd., said the sharp gains in the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq Composite Index on Friday drove Hong Kong stocks up.

Investors were encouraged because signs of inflation in the U.S. eased, Ngan said.

Telecom shares in Hong Kong were strong, with market heavyweight China Telecom rising 3.94%, and the territory`s largest telecom operator, Cable & Wireless HKT, gaining 4.64%.

Another blue chip, Hutchison Whampoa, surged 4.38% following news it will invest into the telecom business in Canada, Ngan said.

Technology-related stocks not on the index also jumped in price. For example, Legend Holdings rose 26.25% and New World Cyberbase 10.18%.

Leading Internet upstart Pacific Century CyberWorks soared 6.62%.

Shamus Mok, chief economist at the Bank of East Asia, said prices of banking and property shares that have developed their Web portals in general fared better than those without online businesses.

Mok anticipated that if U.S. stock markets continue their favorable
performances, Hong Kong share prices will remain strong.
