      Guten Morgen

      North American Gold (NAU.V, C$0.46)

Lately, whenever I ask Brent Cook what companies he likes, he keeps saying " North American Gold." He doesn`t have to sell me on the stock; I already own a lot of it. But he`s been talking about it so much that I asked him to write down his thoughts for this week`s letter.

I bought my initial position in the company two years ago because Simon Ridgway was involved with it. At the time North American Gold was looking at a gold prospect in Nevada (hence the name) that Brent and I subsequently went to visit. Neither of us liked the project, but I didn`t mind, because I felt my money was in good hands. The company later ventured into Sweden and had more success there. Since my initial purchase I have quadrupled my position at prices of up to C$0.45.

North American Gold just completed a private placement of 3.03 million units at C$0.45 and they expect to close a second tranche of another C$1 million in early June. When completed, the company will have a post-financing working capital of C$3 million and a market capitalization of C$10 million. Brent participated in the private placement but given the size of my existing position it did not make sense for me to buy any more. If you are interested in buying a part of the private placement you should call Simon Ridgway at (604) 801-5432 in Vancouver.

      Here`s the story.

      North American Gold
      by Brent Cook

North American moved into Sweden and Finland about two years ago when they picked up an option on a small gold deposit, called Barsele, and additional concessions held by Minmet PLC. A few months ago they completed a resource study on the Barsele deposit proving an indicated and inferred resource of 639,000 ounces of gold grading 1.7 grams per tonne. The gold is free milling, at surface and open for expansion. If the structures hold together on strike there is potential for it to double in size. North American is earning a 60% interest in the project by spending $3 million on exploration, of which about $1.6 million has already been spent. This year should see another $500,000 in drilling. Given the company`s small market capitalization that asset alone could make this an attractive stock.

But here`s the overlooked part of the story. North American has acquired virtually an entire belt of Achaean aged rocks hosting iron mineralization. This Pajala-Kolari belt stretches along a 50 kilometer strike length across the Swedish and Finnish border and has seen considerable iron and copper production. It is host to several known deposits and prospects, several of which fall within the Iron-Oxide-Copper-Gold (IOCG) style of mineralization, but that have not yet been tested to any significant degree for either copper or gold.

On the Finnish side, North American staked about ten known deposits and prospects of which two have resources and past production. Past production at the Rautuvaara deposit totaled 11.6 million tonnes grading 46% iron and 0.36% copper. The deposit hosts a stated resource of about 20 million tonnes and comes with a 600 meter shaft, 5,000 meters of underground tunnels, a decline to the 400 meter level, and a fully permitted -- and two thirds empty -- tailings dam. Plus power, rail and road from a seaport right to the deposit. To duplicate the onsite infrastructure would cost at least $40 million today. Approximately 15 kilometers to the north they staked the Hannukainen Mine that has recorded production of about 4.5 million tonnes grading 43% iron, 0.88% copper and 1 gram per tonne gold. Current resources are believed to be 66 million tonnes and, once again, access and infrastructure are excellent. They have located core with visible chalcopyrite (copper sulfide) that was never assayed. One drill-hole from the Kuervitikko prospect, north of Hannukainen, carried 1.46% copper over 17 meters. There has been no follow-up to these drill holes.

On the Swedish side of the Pajala-Kolari belt North American can earn a 100% interest in eight deposits from Anglo American by spending $1 million on exploration. Anglo has a back-in right to buy 70% for three times North American`s cost if more than 6.6 billion pounds of copper equivalent are defined. So far North American has turned up resource information on two of the deposits. The first deposit, the Stora Sahavaara deposit, hosts 100 million tonnes grading 44.5% iron. Mineralization is open along strike and at depth. The second deposit, Paotieva-Tapuli, contains a resource of 60 million tonnes grading 35% iron. The available data suggests Stora averaged 0.3% copper; however, neither of the deposits have been systematically assayed for copper or gold. Elsewhere on the concession there are numerous gold and copper showings, some with drill intersections that need to be analyzed.

Both of these deposits occur at surface while there are two mines in the area that are currently producing iron at grades of 48% and 44% respectively from depths of 1,000 meters.

Now, a very important point to keep in mind is that the stated resources and arm-waving are based on historical data and estimates by former mine owners or the government. The data has not been checked or verified in any detail by North American Gold. The good part is that most of the data comes with the staking of the properties. There is core from over 1,000 drill holes in storage in Finland and almost 100 drill holes in Sweden that are reportedly available for examination and assaying. Additionally, extensive and detailed geophysical data, till geochemistry, assay information and geologic mapping come with the ground at virtually no cost. North American`s task for the next six months will be to compile, digitize, assay and interpret the available data to see just what it is they have.

So for about $10 million you get 60% of a 600,000 ounce gold deposit, 100% of 18 iron deposits, of which four reportedly have a combined resource of over 300 million tonnes of iron ore, with rail, road and power on site. The area is a known mining district with no obvious environmental obstacles and is located in politically stable countries. The deposits and prospects come with an extensive drill-core database that has not been tested for gold or copper, despite the obvious potential for these IOCG mineral systems to host significant quantities of both copper and gold. Even though we are unable to value these assets until more is known about the copper and gold potential, or the economic viability of the iron deposits, it strikes me that what North American has acquired is worth more than C$10 million.
