MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippines office of orthopedic implant maker Stryker Corp. said Wednesday that it was still in talks with HSBC on its plans to allow candidates for implants to pay for them using their credit cards.
“Stryker Philippines would like to correct the information provided by its officials to INQUIRER.net. HSBC is not officially on board the Active Life Financial Plan yet and that both organizations are still discussing HSBC’s prospective participation in the program,” the company said in a statement.
Stryker., one of the world’s largest makers of medical devices, said in June it was making a bid for a bigger slice of the Philippine market by offering a deferred-payment scheme for orthopedic implants.
Bone disease is one of the most expensive health issues in the Philippines, and both government and private medical insurance systems here do not cover the cost of hip and knee prosthesis and spinal devices unlike in other countries.
In 2005, there were only 1,260 operations done in Metro Manila out of 48,960 estimated patients that needed orthopedic implants. There were 350,800 surgical candidates nationwide, but only 140 went through surgery.

Bei SYK gibts ja nichts groß Neues, außer, dass sich die Aktie dem aktuellen Abwärtstrend auch nicht entziehen kann. Ist aber wurscht, Rückschläge werden meist rel. schnell wieder aufgeholt.
Was K+S angeht, bleibe ich eher außen vor, denn ich denke, dass wir erst am Beginn der Korrektur sind. Der DAX kann locker auf 7000 oder 6500 runter gehen, dann wirds aber zeit aufzustocken bzw. bei K+S rein zu gehen.
