Corporate Information
Nanophase Technologies Corporation
Nanophase is a leader in solving product problems through its patented and proprietary nanocrystalline technology.
The company’s origins can be traced to research performed in the 1980s at Argonne National Laboratory, where the beginnings of a unique process to fabricate nanomaterials was developed. Nanophase further refined and developed this process, called Physical Vapor Synthesis (PVS).
Today, we use PVS to produce materials with unique characteristics, including sizes measured in nanometers, narrow size distribution, and non-porous nearly spherical shapes. When coupled with our proprietary surface treatment chemistry, these PVS-produced nanocrystalline particles can be dispersed in a wide range of formats. This allows us to tailor our particles to meet a variety of customer applications.
We are a pure nanomaterials company from development through high volume manufacturing. We have gathered core technologies that can improve our customers’ products in a number of markets - and provide the opportunity for significant growth for Nanophase.
We accomplish this through a team approach. One-third of our staff has a masters or doctorate degree in materials-related fields, including chemistry, engineering, physics, ceramics and metallurgy. This means we have the expertise to understand your product - and how to improve it - on many levels.
Our people partner with customers, using PVS to create and manufacture the desired solution. In many cases, products that satisfy a vertical market need can be applied across similar or horizontal markets. For instance, materials used in conductive coatings also can be used for anti-static coatings and conductive strip carries for color toners. We focus on, and continue to emphasize, those markets where our science and materials represent a technology break-through, enabling our customers to add value to their products.
But we don’t stop there. Nanophase works with you to ensure the solutions it provides will continue to provide benefits and meet the highest quality standards year after year. Our operations are registered under ISO 9001, and are compliant with the cGMP requirements of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Construction Progressing at Altair`s Camden Project
CODY, Wyo., Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Altair International Inc. (Nasdaq: ALTI - news) today announced that the pilot plant being erected at its Camden, Tennessee mineral property is nearing completion. The plant will process heavy mineral sands through a gravity separation system designed and fabricated by MD Mineral Technologies in Australia. Shipped in modular form, it was delivered to Camden in January, where MD Mineral Technologies is also in charge of plant erection and commissioning. Earlier site work included plant site preparation, the installation of water and power lines and the construction of an impoundment for retention of processed sand.
``Commissioning of the pilot plant is a critical milestone in the development of our Camden mineral property,`` said C. Patrick Costin, Vice President of Altair. ``The Camden site is fully permitted for pilot operations and we`re very anxious to begin processing material through the plant.``
Altair`s engineers are working closely with the MD group and will assume operational responsibility later this month. Pilot operations will establish mineral recovery factors for installed gravity circuits and generate heavy mineral concentrates in bulk quantities for ``dry-mill`` preparation of final titanium and zircon products.
Altair International owns a proprietary technology for making nanocrystalline materials of unique quality, economically in large quantities. The company is currently developing special nanomaterials with potential applications in fuel cells, hard coatings, catalysts, cosmetics, paints, batteries, semi-conductors and telecommunications. The technology may also be used to make paint pigment at a cost forecast to be substantially lower than commercial technologies employed today. Altair holds mineral leases on a ``world class`` titanium mineral sand deposit in Tennessee and is in the process of constructing a pilot plant at that site. The company`s other principle asset is the Altair Centrifugal Jig, an environmentally friendly breakthrough technology for mining, coal treatment and environmental remediation.
This press release may be deemed to contain certain forward-looking statements with respect to Altair that are subject to risks and uncertainties that include, but are not limited to, Altair`s ability to obtain necessary capital, performance and reliability of technology, market acceptance of products using Altair technology, variance in anticipated production costs and unanticipated effects of regulatory requirements related to the technology, as well as those identified in the Company`s press releases or discussed from time to time in the Company`s Securities and Exchange Commission filings. Actual results may vary materially.
