AVT - Buy
Die Analysten von Dresdner Kleinwort Benson raten weiterhin zum Kauf der AVT-Aktien.
· Market cap of $47m compares with net liquid funds of $36m valuing the business itself at a mere $11m. At 0.6X current year EV/Sales the valuation is excessively depressed. Growth remains vigorous (14% q-o-q) even if it is not matching initial ambitious expectations.
· The weak euro cost roughly $0.1m of sales in Q3. The remainder of the shortfall on our expectations ($3.5m actual v $3.8-3.9m expected) arose from disappointing unit sales in Europe. We suspect that the company under-estimated the difficulty of penetrating all the European markets on a direct sales basis managed from Israel without heavy upfront costs. The salesman covering the important German territory also proved a disappointment and has been changed.
· AVT is addressing this issue with the hiring of an MD responsible for Europe and additional hires including a second salesman for Germany. Inevitably this will push up the selling cost in 2001. The benefits should start to appear in Q1 2001.
· The CEO gave 60% as a sales growth figure for 2000 and the next couple of years. This implies Q4 sales of some $4.3m, which does not appear excessively ambitious in the light of normal seasonal patterns; Q4 contributed 335 to 1999 sales. The FY figures of $14m in ’00, $22m in ’01 and $35m in ’02 fall below our initial forecasts of $15.5m in ‘00, $25m in ’01 and $37m in ’02 but are healthy nonetheless. Higher selling costs push expected 2001 EBIT margin down to 15% from 22% originally.
· The strong performance in North America with 5-6 salesmen selling into a homogenous market gives a better indication of the potential, Sales in Q3 of $2.21m compare to $3.04m in the entire first half.
· The new products have been well received and contributed 10-12% to Q3 sales, most of the incremental sales. All the new installations are up and running smoothly.
· At least five Mercury units, aimed at the previously untapped market for commercial web-offset (magazines and catalogues) have been ordered or installed. Buyers include leading US web offset printer Quadgraphics, who has ordered two units. With a base of 60+ presses Quadgraphics could be a very large customer on its own. AVT picked 100 leads at the recent US Graphexpo fair, which is focused on the web-offset market. AVT aims to refine the value proposition further but expects Mercury to contribute 15% to 2001 sales.
· AVT has sold 15 pRegister systems, which mark its first step into the control system of presses rather than merely post-print inspection. It offers massive savings compared to manual set-up both in time (40 secs v 15mns) and in material waste (70 metres v 1000 metres) They are installed on presses from all four leading manufacturers in the segment.
· At least three Appollo, linear CCD based 100% inspection systems have been sold.
· The potential for penetrating large accounts is shown clearly by a recent framework order from Lawson Mardon, which had 3-4 systems installed. Under the agreement it will buy a further 18 systems of which five should be shipped by the year end. The additional discount for the size of the business is only around 8%.
· AVT is close to acquiring a company with technology in web-offset printing. This should extend and reinforce AVT’s marketing reach into this new segment. The purchase would be a cash deal.
· The company sees no adverse effects from the political situation in Israel.

Deggendorf (ots Ad hoc-Service) -
bescheren, so Mühlbauer. Die Ergebniszahlen des dritten Quartals
werden ca. Ende November konsolidiert vorliegen.
