Isonics Enters New Segment Of SOI Wafer Market
Tuesday December 2, 8:06 am ET
Receives Orders for Thick Film SOI wafers from Defense Electronics Organizations
GOLDEN, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 2, 2003--Isonics Corporation
(NASDAQ:ISON - News) announced that two U.S. government agencies and one defense contractor have placed orders for Isonics thick-film silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers.
"These orders, while not individually large, are symbolic and mark our initial foray into the defense electronics market. This makes sense to us since, according to Gartner, Inc., the major applications for thick film SOI wafers are customized devices for industrial equipment and aeronautic/military applications," said James Alexander,
chairman and chief executive officer. "We believe the defense electronics market holds a great deal of promise for Isonics because we believe our SOI wafers meet the demanding requirements of military applications. These organizations selected Isonics because we are willing to work with them to provide a highly customized product. We will work closely with their engineers on the evaluation and qualification phases at which point we would expect to receive follow-on orders from these customers and from others in this market
segment."
About Silicon-on-Insulator Wafers
Silicon-on insulator (SOI) wafers are the fastest growing segment of the overall $7 billion silicon wafer market. SOI wafers have a thin layer of silicon dioxide below the surface of the single crystal silicon wafer and are used to manufacture optical chips, micro-electrical mechanical devices (MEMS) and digital signal processors. This oxide layer electrically isolates the surface layer from the bulk of the wafer and allows higher speeds with lower power
consumption. AMD, IBM and Motorola are producing their most advanced microprocessors using SOI wafers.
About Isonics SOI Wafers Isonics Corporation provides all sizes of thick-film SOI wafers and has recently announced it is providing evaluation samples to select customers for its Sigma thin-film SOI wafer product. The new Sigma process has the capability to produce a wide range of thin-film
SOI wafer specifications to be sold at attractive pricing. Isonics is the only U.S.-based SOI wafer manufacturer with both thick-film and thin-film manufacturing capability.
About Isonics Corporation Isonics is a world leader in isotopically engineered materials and produces isotopically pure silicon-28 chemicals and wafers and silicon-on-insulator wafers (SOI) for the semiconductor industry.
Isonics also markets and sells stable isotopes for the health care industry such as Oxygen-18 for positron emission tomography (PET)imaging. The company is also a leading supplier of several radioactive isotopes used in medical imaging and therapy. Isotopes can be thought of as ultra pure materials. For additional information visit www.isonics.com. Except for historical information contained herein, this document contains forward-looking statements within the meaning of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. These statements involve
known and unknown risks and uncertainties that may cause the Company`s actual results or outcomes to be materially different from those anticipated and discussed herein, and which may result in the parties being unable or unwilling to complete the transaction described herein. Further, the Company operates in industries where securities values may be volatile and may be influenced by regulatory and other
factors beyond the Company`s control. Other important factors that the Company believes might cause such differences are discussed in the risk factors detailed in the Company`s 10-KSB for the year ended April 30, 2003 as filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which
include the Company`s cash flow difficulties, dependence on
significant customers, and rapid development of technology, among other risks. In assessing forward-looking statements contained herein,
readers are urged to carefully read all cautionary statements
contained in the Company`s filings with the Securities and Exchange
Commission.

Hallo Rockonkel,

Egal , meine liegen wohl ...
... und eines ist sicher ...
die Chiphersteller brauchen in der nahen Zukunft niederohmigeres Silizium !
