RESEARCH ALERT-CIBC ups Sierra target, stock at 3-yr high
Tuesday March 30, 12:35 pm ET

TORONTO, March 30 (Reuters) - CIBC World Markets said on Tuesday it raised its price target on Sierra Wireless Inc. (Toronto:SW.TO - News; NasdaqNM:SWIR - News) to $40 from $32, based based on strong demand for the company`s wireless modems.
Analyst Spencer Churchill, who reiterated his "sector outperformer" rating on the stock, said Sierra was being helped by improved industry fundamentals.
"We believe the rollout of new high-speed wireless networks is re-energizing growth of Sierra`s core PC card business, as carriers in developed nations seek to offset slowing subscriber growth (and voice revenues) with new wireless data products," he said in a note to clients.
"As the leader in the wide-area wireless PC card market, we believe Sierra is well positioned to capitalize on this trend."
Sierra Wireless shares were up 81 cents, or about 2 percent, at $35.25 on Nasdaq, on volume of more than 1 million. The stock at one point touched $35.94, its highest level since February, 2001.

Sierra Wireless Becomes a Spec Beauty
Friday April 2, 11:28 am ET
By James J. Cramer, RealMoney Columnist
We can bet on Centrino, which is in Intel (NasdaqNM:INTC - News) products, and make money slowly -- the molasses kind of slowly. Or we can bet on Sierra Wireless (NasdaqNM:SWIR - News) and make money instantly.
You don`t know Sierra Wireless? That`s because you haven`t seen the future. I have my PC hooked up to Verizon Wireless, meaning it`s online at 153 bps all the time for very little money per month. It is amazing to me that people keep talking about this silly WiFi stuff when this wireless online service is so, so much better and usable everywhere. I still can`t figure out what the Verizon Wireless people are thinking, not blasting out this service, because it is so great.
