Und " BioShield" ist kein Gedankenspiel, das noch an den Reißbrettern des Pentagon hängt.Denn der US-Senat hat bereits zugestimmt,und zwar mit 99:0 Stimmen.
Vical Incorporated hat sich auf die Entwicklung von Impfstoffen gegen Viruserkrankungen spezialisiert und sitzt damit genau an der Quelle der Bioterrorbekämpfung.

In den klinischen Testphasen befinden sich zudem schon Wirkstoffe gegen Malaria(PhaseI/II) und 2 Präparate gegen HIV(beide PhaseI). Als Partner für die Entwicklung der HIV-Präparate konnte dabei der US-Pharmariese Merck gewonnen werden,der auch bei 3 Wirkstoffen gegen Hepatitis B und C

Revenues for the second quarter of 2005 were $4.8 million compared with $5.7 million for the same period of 2004. The net loss for the second quarter of 2005 was $5.0 million or $0.21 per share, compared with $5.3 million or $0.23 per share for the second quarter of 2004. Financial results were consistent with the company`s projected net loss for the full year 2005 of between $23 million and $26 million. Vical had cash and investments of $59 million at the end of the second quarter.

CHICAGO, Oct 11 (Reuters) - Biotechnology company Vical Inc.(VICL.O: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Tuesday the National Institutes of Health has started a midstage trial of an experimental vaccine for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, sending shares up 21 percent.
The vaccine was developed by government scientists and made by Vical, using the company`s DNA delivery technology.
The Phase 2 trial vaccine incorporates parts of four HIV genes. The study is being performed by the HIV Vaccine Trials Network, an NIH-supported clinical trials group that evaluates and compares different HIV/AIDS vaccine candidates,
The news sent shares of Vical up $1.16, or 21.60 percent, to $6.54 in morning trade on Nasdaq, after touching high of $6.98. The stock was among the biggest percentage gainers on Nasdaq.

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Vical Inc., a developer of gene-based drugs, said Wednesday that it plans to raise $22.6 million selling stock in a registered direct offering to a group of institutional investors.
Shares of Vical dropped $1.05, or 17.4 percent, to $5 in morning trading on the Nasdaq. The stock set a new 52-week high of $6.98 on Tuesday, after the National Institutes of Health sponsored a clinical trial using an HIV vaccine made by the company. Its shares have rebounded from a year low of $3.46 set in May.

The company said it received commitments to sell 4.7 million common shares at $4.80 per share, based on its 30-day average closing price of $4.83. Vical has about 23.5 million shares outstanding.
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said it plans to use the proceeds for clinical trials, research and development, potential acquisitions and other general corporate purposes.
Vical said it expects to close the offering on Oct. 17. Piper Jaffray served as lead placement agent and Needham & Co. and Rodman & Renshaw acted as co-placement agents.

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Vical Inc., a developer of gene-based drugs, said Wednesday that it plans to raise $22.6 million selling stock in a registered direct offering to a group of institutional investors.
Shares of Vical dropped $1.05, or 17.4 percent, to $5 in morning trading on the Nasdaq. The stock set a new 52-week high of $6.98 on Tuesday, after the National Institutes of Health sponsored a clinical trial using an HIV vaccine made by the company. Its shares have rebounded from a year low of $3.46 set in May.

The company said it received commitments to sell 4.7 million common shares at $4.80 per share, based on its 30-day average closing price of $4.83. Vical has about 23.5 million shares outstanding.
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said it plans to use the proceeds for clinical trials, research and development, potential acquisitions and other general corporate purposes.
Vical said it expects to close the offering on Oct. 17. Piper Jaffray served as lead placement agent and Needham & Co. and Rodman & Renshaw acted as co-placement agents.

The DNA vaccines tested in mice targeted highly-conserved influenza proteins -- nucleoprotein (NP) and matrix protein (M2) -- and were systematically tested with Vaxfectin(TM) and other formulations. Vaxfectin(TM)-formulated vaccines demonstrated statistically superior protection in mice, particularly at low doses, against lethal challenges with H1N1 or H3N2 strains of human influenza. The plasmid DNA (pDNA) therapy encodes Fibroblast Growth Factor 1 (FGF-1), a growth factor that stimulates the growth of blood vessels, and is intended to reduce the need for amputations in patients suffering from critical limb ischemia. Sanofi-aventis previously reported results from a Phase 2 trial in 107 patients demonstrating a statistically significant reduction in the rate of both major amputations and all amputations in patients receiving NV1FGF compared with those receiving placebo.
