Top LNG importer China re-selling more cargoes, eyes trading gains

SINGAPORE/LONDON, Nov 10 (Reuters) - China, the world's top importer of liquefied natural gas (LNG), is increasingly re-selling some of the super-chilled fuel to other Asian buyers as it looks to profit from price swings.

Armed with a growing portfolio of long-term supply deals recently struck with Qatar and U.S. exporters, as well as extensive terminal capacity, Chinese companies led by state giant PetroChina are more actively trading LNG, but still lag far behind global majors such as BP, Shell and TotalEnergies.

Chinese customs data shows that China reloaded 617,000 metric tons of imported LNG during the first nine months of this year, compared with 576,000 tons in all of 2022, 26,000 tons in 2021 and 59,000 tons in 2020.

China's LNG sales have increased along with rising Asian demand after the disruption in Russian exports to Europe from the Ukraine war sparked price volatility and tightened supplies globally.

State trader CNOOC and privately controlled Jovo Energy also re-exported a cargo each this year, both to Japan, Kpler data shows.

The main reloading point has been the Yangpu regasification terminal, in the southern island province of Hainan, which can handle 3 million tons of LNG annually and is closer to southeast and south Asian buyers than China's east coast terminals, according to Kpler and ICIS.

Chinese LNG buyers have also been setting up or expanding trading desks in London and Singapore to better manage their supply portfolios.
CATCHING UP

China is now the world's second largest LNG re-exporter after Spain, which exported 1.7 million tons in 2022 and 1.15 million tons so far in 2023, Kpler data showed.

"This could lead to it taking up a similar role in Asia to one that Spain has had in Europe... as a key centre for reloading cargoes, helping to offer flexibility to the market," said ICIS LNG analyst Alex Froley.

China's LNG receiving capacity is expected to expand 30% to nearly 182 million tons annually by 2025 from 139 million tons this year, CNOOC has estimated.

PetroChina aims to resume Venezuelan oil imports after 4-year pause

HOUSTON/SINGAPORE, Nov 2 (Reuters) - China's PetroChina (601857.SS) is proposing to buy up to 8 million barrels a month of Venezuelan crude from state-run oil company PDVSA, according to four people familiar with the matter, hoping to resume a trade suspended four years ago by U.S. sanctions.

In October, the U.S. Treasury Department temporarily lifted the sanctions, paving the way for Venezuela to resume exporting crude, gas and fuel to its best customers. Washington has said the six-month reprieve hinges on Venezuela's government embracing a fair and open presidential election next year.

Since the measures were relaxed, some companies that had acquired Venezuelan oil prior to sanctions have sought to revive those deals.

PetroChina, China's second-largest oil refiner, has offered yuan payment for about 265,000 barrels per day (bpd) of Venezuelan crude through its joint ventures with PDVSA, which would allow them to rebuild cashflow and capital for production investment, two of the sources said.

"They are working on it," said a person close to PetroChina. The company before sanctions was taking up to six 2 million-barrel cargoes of Venezuelan oil per month.

PetroChina Southwest Oil & Gasfield Company hat die erste Charge Lithiumcarbonat aus Gasfeldwasser in einem Gasreservoir namens Longwangmiao Formation hergestellt, was die erfolgreiche Inbetriebnahme der ersten inländischen Pilotanlage für die Lithiumgewinnung aus Gasfeldwasser markiert, so ein Bericht, der vom Unternehmen am Dienstag veröffentlicht wurde.

Nach Angaben des Unternehmens umfasst die Pilotanlage die Gasfeldwasservorbehandlung und die Lithiumgewinnung, die trotz der komplexen Verunreinigungen von Gasfeldwasser eine grüne Trennung und Gewinnung von Lithiumressourcen realisieren kann.

Das Projekt kann mit dem Vorteil, sowohl hocheffizient als auch stabil zu sein, Lithium aus Gasfeldwasser mit hohem Schwefel- und Salzgehalt extrahieren.

Es ist der erste Versuch des Landes, Lithium aus Gasfeldwasser groß angelegt zu fördern, wobei die jährliche Produktion von Lithiumcarbonat voraussichtlich 50 Tonnen erreichen wird.

Mit der rasanten Entwicklung der neuen Energieindustrie ist die Marktnachfrage nach Lithiumcarbonat explodiert. Lithiumressourcen werden hauptsächlich in Salzseen und Steinminen und teilweise in Öl- und Gasfeldwasser gefunden. Lithiumressourcen in Öl- und Gasfeldwasser haben die Vorteile breiter Quellen und großer Reserven und erhalten daher zunehmende Aufmerksamkeit.

Laut ausländischen Berichten über die Lithiumförderung hat das Gasfeldwasser in den Öl- und Gasfeldern der USA, Deutschlands und Kanadas einen besseren Lithiumgehalt. Einige Gasfeldwasser in den USA und Kanada generieren Einnahmen aus Lithium-Extraktionsprojekten.

In China ist Gasfeldwasser im südwestchinesischen Sichuan-Becken weit verbreitet.

Im Juli 2022 gab die Southwest Oil and Gasfield Company bekannt, dass ihr Pilottest der Lithiumgewinnung aus Gasfeldwasser ein Meilensteinergebnis erzielt hat, indem Gasfeldwasser aus dem Longwangmiao Formation Gasreservoir verwendet wurde, um 100 Gramm Lithiumhydroxid zu produzieren und 400 Gramm Lithiumcarbonatpulver zu extrahieren. Es ist das erste Mal, dass Lithium aus Gasfeldwasser in der heimischen Öl- und Gasfeldindustrie gewonnen wird.

Die Longwangmiao-Formation wurde 2012 mit geologischen Reserven von mehr als 440 Milliarden Kubikmetern gefunden und ist damit das größte einzelne Vollgasreservoir, das jemals in China entdeckt wurde.

(Yicai Global) Aug. 26 -- PetroChina and China National Offshore Oil Corporation have reported their most impressive performance ever in the first half, with the two oil giants’ combined net profit almost reaching last year’s total, thanks to higher oil prices and strong demand.

PetroChina posted a 55.3 percent leap in net profit in the six months ended June 30 from the same period last year to CNY82.4 billion (USD12 billion). Revenue jumped 34.9 percent to CNY1.6 trillion (USD233 billion).

While CNOOC saw its net profit more than double over the period to a new high of CNY71.9 billion (USD10.5 billion). Revenue soared 75.6 percent to CNY176.7 billion (USD25.7 billion).

Much of this was on the back of surging international oil prices, as geopolitical tensions greatly affected supply and demand in the first half, Beijing-based PetroChina said. The spot price of Brent crude soared 66.1 percent in the first half year on year to an average of USD107.94 per barrel while that of West Texas Intermediate jumped 63.7 percent to an average of USD101.85 per barrel.

Both oil giants have made the most of the opportunities offered by increased oil prices and greater demand as the country’s economy picks up to expand their oil and gas production.

PetroChina’s output of crude oil and natural gas climbed 3.9 percent in the first half year on year to 103.3 million tons. Of this, crude oil production advanced 3.4 percent to 52.5 million tons, while natural gas production hit a new high, jumping 4.4 percent to 63.8 billion cubic meters.

CNOOC’s production of oil and gas surged 9.6 percent to a new high at 304.8 million barrels of oil equivalents.

As payback to investors, CNOOC said it will issue a record interim dividend of HKD0.70 (USD0.09) a share, it said. PetroChina’s will distribute an interim dividend of CNY37.1 billion (USD5.4 billion) at CNY0.20258 (USD0.03) per share, it said.

wer weiß totgesagte leben oft länger :-) sieht doch gut aus, kann so weiter gehen.

Danke und die Kurs sind um rund 30% gestiegen, kann Matrix nicht meckern.
Heute noch die Dividende ohne merklichen Rückgang.

Denke auch dass das Ölzeitalter sich dem Ende neigt, aber wer weiß totgesagte leben oft länger :-)
