Besser als der zuständige Minister hätte ich es auch nicht sagen können...

ARAFURA RESOURCES NL (ASX : ARU)
ASX ANNOUNCEMENT 8 November, 2006
$3.3 million AusIndustry Grant for the Nolans Rare Earth & Uranium Project
Arafura Resources NL (ASX:ARU) has been offered a $3.3 million Commonwealth Government Commercial Ready Program grant for the Nolans Rare Earths – Uranium Project (50% of the application for project expenditure).
Commercial Ready is a competitive merit-based grant program supporting commercial innovation. The program offers industry a single entry point to competitive grants for early-stage commercialisation activities with high commercial potential and proof-of-concept activities. The grant covers metallurgical and pilot plant test work to the value of $1.2 million and the potential for an extended pilot plant phase to the value of $2.1 million.
In its grant application Arafura Resources demonstrated that the Nolans project had the correct fundamentals for progression both in terms of technical probabilities and future commercial outcomes. It also demonstrated that the Board and management of Arafura Resources had the capacity to take this project forward to commercialisation.
Under the terms of the offer, the Commercial Ready grant is to be provided to assist Arafura to continue with the development of a unique rare earths, uranium and phosphate recovery process. The grant covers all technical and process related expenditure inclusive of flow sheet development, test work, pilot plant and demonstration plant costs. The technology will be used to develop the Nolans Bore rare earths, uranium, and phosphate deposit in Central Australia.
The Federal Minister for Industry, the Honourable Ian MacFarlane said, “The Commercial Ready grant scheme, established under the Howard Government’s Backing Australia’s Ability – Building our Future through Science and Innovation Policy, aims to stimulate greater innovation and productivity growth in the private sector by providing around $200 million per year in
competitive grants to small and medium-sized businesses. Commercial Ready provides grants from $50,000 up to a limit of $5 million for eligible projects of up to three years in duration.”
“Arafura’s Nolans project has the potential to become the Australian based leader in rare earths processing. In a market that is growing exponentially throughout the world due to the huge demand for high technology products as well as greenhouse friendly vehicles. The benefits to the Australian economy from this new and exciting industry will be considerable.” The Minister said.
The Nolans rare earths-phosphate project is located 135 km north east of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. The deposit was discovered by Arafura in 1999 and exploration work has delineated a multiple product resource of 18.6 million tonnes.
“Arafura Resources is honoured to be offered this Commercial Ready grant by AusIndustry. The grant is external recognition of the potential commercial viability of the Nolans rare earth-uranium-phosphate project. It also reflects the confidence Arafura Resources has in the company’s ability to develop a significant project that will have major implications for the development of a new industry base in Northern Australia. With this grant Arafura Resources can now move forward on the feasibility phase with the comfort of guaranteed funding, which leaves us better placed to concentrate on the technical and marketing challenges ahead,” Arafura Resources Managing Director Alistair Stephens said.
Rare earths are an essential component of products with significant growth potential in the electronics industry such as plasma screens and the delivery of energy efficient transport solutions through hybrid vehicles which rely on the technology for rechargeable batteries.
