Unglaublich, was Novo Nordisk derzeit anbietet. Die Aktie ist in einem fast einzigartigen Aufwärtslauf und hat seit Spätsommer gut 30 % gewonnen, bevor es zuletzt plötzlich und unvermittelt um 6 Euro nach unten ging – also um -15 %. Novo Nordisk hat sich kurz geschüttelt und marschiert schon wieder weiter. Jetzt gibt es aus der Perspektive charttechnischer Analysten noch eine Einstiegschance. Konkret: Die Aktie sattelte binnen weniger Tage 5 % auf und schaffte binnen zweier Wochen im laufenden charttechnischen Aufwärtstrend ein Plus von fast 10 %. Dies ist der nächste Angriff auf das 1-Jahres-Hoch 47,30 Euro, das Novo Nordisk erst am 22. Januar 2018 erzielt hatte. Darüber wartet direkt die 50-Euro-Marke mit dem 2-Jahres-Hoch von 51,94 Euro, das Novo Nordisk am 14. März 2016 erreicht hatte. Ein gutes Zeichen, dass dann auch nur gut 3 Euro zum Allzeithoch 55,18 Euro vom 4. August 2015 fehlen. Die Aktie ist in einer Rallye. 75 % aller Bankanalysten schließen sich dieser Auffassung an und geben derzeit eine Kaufempfehlung ab. 15 % wollen halten und 10 % verkaufen die Aktie auf der aktuellen Basis. Technische Analyse Aus technischer Sicht hat Novo Nordisk gleichfalls den Aufwärtstrend erreicht. Durch die jüngsten Kursgewinne eroberte das Unternehmen die 200-Tage-Linie bei 40,84 Euro zurück. Dies ist ein klares Kaufsignal!

Semaglutide im Fokus
Konkret gibt es zwei frische Meldungen, die Anleger von Novo Nordisk auf dem Schirm haben sollten. Beide drehen sich um Semaglutide, sprich den Hoffnungsträger, von dem sich viele irgendwann eine orale, vermarktbare Variante des Insulins erhoffen.

Verkündet wurde in diesem Zusammenhang zum einen, dass Ozempic (ein konkretes Mittel aus der Reihe der Semaglutide) es in die Liste eines der größten Pharma-Abnehmer in den USA geschafft hat. Express Scripts nahm dieses Präparat nämlich in seine Arzneimittelliste auf, wodurch Ozempic nunmehr in einem direkten Wettbewerb mit anderen, möglicherweise weniger effektiven Konkurrenzprodukten steht.

Zum anderen gab Novo Nordisk bekannt, dass eine erste Phase-3-Studie des Zulassungsverfahrens bei der oralen Variante eines Semaglutides positive Ergebnisse verzeichnen konnte. Das sehen viele Analysten als Fingerzeig, dass Novo Nordisk signifikante Fortschritte in seinem Vorhaben erreichen könnte, ein orales Insulin herzustellen. Das wäre definitiv ein starker Wettbewerbsvorteil für Novo Nordisk. Entsprechend groß ist hier das Erwartungspotenzial.
Unterm Strich…
… zeigen beide Meldungen damit für mich, dass Novo Nordisk nichts von seiner innovativen Strahlkraft verloren hat. Mehr noch, Novo Nordisk ist auch auf einem guten Wege, seine wegweisenden Vorhaben in der Diabetesversorgung erfolgreich in die Tat umzusetzen.

Dennoch sollten wir an dieser Stelle aber auch betonen, dass es sich bei der oralen Variante des Semaglutides um einen ersten Schritt auf einem langen Weg bis zur Zulassung handelt. Von der Marktreife ganz zu schweigen. Die Kursaufschläge infolge solcher Meldungen sind daher immer Vorschusslorbeeren, auf die immer noch weitere positive News folgen müssen.

Nichtsdestoweniger verfügt Novo Nordisk aber über eine interessante Produktpipeline. Das verdeutlichen meiner Meinung nach auch diese jüngsten Meldungen. Novo Nordisk bietet daher weiterhin einen interessanten Chance-Risiko-Mix, was die Aktie in meinen Augen weiterhin attraktiv macht. Ich bin gespannt, womit die Dänen uns als nächstes überraschen werden.

...DER AKTIONÄR bleibt optimistisch für Novo Nordisk. Können die Dänen die oral verfügbare Variante von Semaglutide zur Marktreife führen, dürfte das langfristige Wachstum gesichert sein. In den kommenden Woche sollte die Aktie, begleitet von einem positiven Newsflow, das 52-Wochen-Hoch wieder in Angriff nehmen. Langfristig agierende Anleger nutzen die aktuellen Kurse zum Einstieg.

Diese 1. Zwischenmeldung, neun weitere müssen noch folgen, ist sehr hoffnungsvoll, dass Novo die ersten sein werden die eine oral insulin Pille auf den Markt bringen. Alle anderen Konkurrenten hinken mindestens zwei Jahre hinterher.

In another key move in the biotechnology space, Novo Nordisk A/S (ADR) (NYSE:NVO) just put out some data from the first of ten phase III trials that the company has set up to investigate the potential for using oral semaglutide for the treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes.

As per the announcement detailing the release, the trial met its primary objective through the demonstrating of significant and superior improvements in HbA1c (long-term blood sugar), which is a gold standard metric in this space, for all three doses of oral semaglutide compared to placebo.

Looking at the numbers specifically, the 14 mg dose also demonstrated significant and superior weight loss versus placebo but did not reach statistical significance for the 7 mg and 3 mg doses. Reductions in HbA1c of 0.8%, 1.3% and 1.5% were recorded compared to a reduction of 0.1% in people treated with placebo from a mean baseline of 8.0%.

The key takeaway from this one is that the American Diabetes Association (ADA) treatment target of HbA1c below 7.0% was achieved by 59%, 72% and 80% of people on semaglutide compared to 34% of the people treated with placebo.

This suggests the potential for some real strength as the program matures towards a conclusion.

Of course, it’s still relatively early, with another nine of these trials still to complete.

That said, it’s a strong start and it’s one that’s going to draw some real attention to this asset over the coming twelve months and beyond.

The FDA has approved Glooko's Mobile Insulin Dosing System.
Glooko's new system calculates long-acting insulin dosages and sends Type 2 diabetes patients reminders on their cellphones.
Long-acting insulin maker Novo Nordisk already has a partnership with Glooko and is watching the development of the new product "with great interest."

The Food and Drug Administration has approved a mobile system that could simplify diabetes management for some patients.

Doctors treating Type 2 diabetes with long-acting insulin are supposed to instruct patients on how to calculate the proper dosage. They then fine-tune the suggestions based on how well the treatment is working to move blood sugar levels in an appropriate range.

Glooko's Mobile Insulin Dosing System allows doctors to set a dosage and pulls data from the patient's glucose monitor to recalculate levels based on the reading. It's integrated into Glooko's existing mobile app and sends reminders to patients' cellphones when it's time to take another dose.

"There's an enormous unmet need for both [clinicians and patients] — clinicians who aren't comfortable with dosing and therefore don't put people on long-acting insulin," said Glooko CEO Rick Altinger. "It's a wonderful drug if taken in the right amount at the right time in the right way. This overcomes a big need for clinicians and saves them time. For patients, math is hard."

Altinger said the company decided to develop the system after learning some doctors and patients struggle with manual calculations and ensuring patients are following their treatment plan. The insight also came from analyzing data from Glooko's existing diabetes management platform.

To test whether the system improved outcomes, Glooko conducted a study of 14 patients for between 7 and 23 days. The system increased adherence to the treatment plan, which was related to positive outcomes, according to the results.

However, the study was conducted over a short period of time and was not blind nor randomized, so it's possible that some patients were more mindful of their diabetes management because they knew they were being tracked, said Dr. Tom Donner, director of the Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Diabetes Center.

Still, he believes the benefits were due to the app, since the subjects were prompted to increase their long-acting insulin dose, which he said doctors know will lower fasting glucose levels.

"If you had a device that got somebody to their ultimate insulin dose more rapidly without causing low blood sugars, that would help speeding up getting somebody's diabetes under control," Donner said.

Now that the system is approved, Glooko will start commercializing it and work through reimbursement. One strategy could be to partner with pharmaceutical companies and offer Glooko's mobile insulin dosing system as a bundle with long-acting insulin products, Altinger said.

Michelle de Haaff, Glooko's vice president of marketing and customer success, said drugmakers could be interested because the system has the potential to keep patients on a particular brand.

"Once a clinician puts a patient on (a brand of long-acting insulin) and something's not right, they will change that patient to another brand if it seems like this brand is not working," she said. "That's a big frustration with pharmaceutical companies."

She said all major long-acting insulin makers have shown interest. Glooko already has a partnership with Novo Nordisk NOVO.B-DK , which produces Levemir and Tresiba. The two launched its Cornerstones4Care Powered by Glooko app last year.

In response to CNBC's request for comment on Glooko's new system, a Novo Nordisk spokesman said the company "is continuing to follow the development and progress of this platform with great interest."
