Woodside's Unions Settlement Costs at Australia LNG Project Moderate - CEO

Woodside Energy faces increased costs following negotiations with unions at its Australian liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant, but these will have a relatively modest impact on its overall business, CEO Meg O'Neill told Reuters on Tuesday.

Last month, Woodside Energy reached an agreement with unions at Australia's largest LNG project, potentially averting a disruption to supplies, after workers' demands for better pay and conditions were met.

"There was a cost of course, but... in the grand scheme of things, there is a relatively modest impact on the total business," O'Neill told Reuters on the sidelines of the Gastech conference in Singapore, without disclosing the settlement amount.

Australia union alliance, Legeneering agree on decommissioning rates for workers

Sept 2 (Reuters) - The Offshore Alliance and Australia's Legeneering reached an agreement on the decommissioning rates for the Thevenard offshore decommissioning workscopes, the union alliance said on Friday.

"Legeneering have agreed to sign onto the Offshore Decommissioning Industry Standard enterprise bargaining agreement (EBA) as well as aligning all offshore maintenance rates and conditions with the Union negotiated EBA for the Woodside FPSO's," the union said.

Prices plunge after Woodside Australia LNG strike deal

Aug 24 (Reuters) - Dutch and British wholesale gas prices fell sharply on Thursday after a preliminary deal between unions and Woodside Energy that is set to avert a potential strike at Australia's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility.

The benchmark Dutch September contract was down 4.20 euro at 32.30 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) by 0807 GMT, after earlier trading at 29.80 euros/MWh, its lowest since Aug. 8, according to Refinitiv Eikon data.

The corresponding British contract fell by 11.50 pence to 80.00 pence per therm.

Overnight, Woodside Energy and unions reached an in-principle agreement with workers on its North West Shelf facility, with union members voting to ratify the deal at 7.30 pm Perth time (1130 GMT).

Woodside, Unions Reach Deal

Woodside Energy on Thursday reached an in-principle agreement with unions at Australia's largest LNG project, potentially averting a disruption to supplies from the world's biggest exporter of the super-chilled fuel.

Both Woodside and the union alliance representing workers at the offshore platforms of its North West Shelf facility announced the initial deal in separate statements after a round of talks both sides deemed positive.

Workers are now meeting to decide whether to ratify the deal, union alliance spokesperson Brad Gandy said.

SINGAPORE/LONDON, Aug 21 (Reuters) - China's liquefied natural (LNG) gas importers are starting up or expanding trading desks in London and Singapore to better manage their growing and diversified supply portfolios in an increasingly volatile global market.

The beefed-up trading presence of Chinese importers puts them in direct competition with such global heavyweights as Shell (SHEL.L), BP (BP.L), Equinor (EQNR.OL) and TotalEnergies (TTEF.PA) for a market that the International Energy Agency says doubled in value to $450 billion last year.

Woodside Energy's profit jumps on boost from BHP's petroleum assets

Aug 22 (Reuters) - Australia's Woodside Energy (WDS.AX) on Tuesday reported a 4.2% jump in first-half profit, reflecting record high production levels following full contribution from BHP Group's petroleum assets.

Woodside became a top-10 global independent oil and gas producer after its merger with BHP's petroleum arm was finalised in 2022.

Oil and natural gas prices, which soared to record highs last year in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine war, lost momentum in the first half but remained above the long-term average price levels.

Woodside reported first-half total production of 91.3 millions of barrels of oil equivalent (MMBOE), a record for the company.

Australia's top independent gas producer said underlying net profit after tax was $1.90 billion for the six months ended June 30, down from $1.82 billion a year earlier, missing Visible Alpha consensus estimate of $2.02 billion.

It announced an interim dividend of 80 cents per share, falling short of consensus estimates of 86 cents.

Woodside Energy set to log strong first-half profit on resilient LNG prices

Aug 16 (Reuters) - Woodside Energy (WDS.AX), Australia's no.1 independent oil and gas producer, is likely to post a strong first-half profit growth, underpinned by resilient liquefied natural gas (LNG) spot market prices and upbeat production levels.

Oil and natural gas prices, which rose to record highs last year in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine war, slipped in the first half but stayed above long-term average levels despite a slower-than-expected recovery in key consumer China weighing on demand.

A Visible Alpha consensus anticipates Woodside's first-half core net profit after tax (NPAT) at $2.02 billion, above last year's $1.82 billion, with strong output providing a boost.

Uncertainties from threatened worker strikes over pay and conditions at Woodside's North West Shelf LNG plant and Chevron's (CVX.N) Wheatstone and Gorgon LNG facilities also threaten around 11% of global supply, resulting in prices soaring.

"For investors, the bottom-line is that in a downside outcome of 90 days of outages at both plants, the earnings impact from foregone production is partially offset by tightening spot LNG markets," Citi said in a note.

To add to the sombre mood, a slower-than-expected economic growth in China and concerns about global economic prospects could dampen outlook for fuel demand.

"There is a struggling Chinese economy and that's impacting demand (where) other places such as India might be able to fill the void to large extent and that's going to shore up energy demand in the second half of this year and also in 2024," said Tim Waterer, chief market analyst at KCM trade.

Shares of Woodside have gained 9% so far this year, while those of Santos are up 10.8%. The energy sub-index (.AXEJ) has climbed 8.2% during the same period.
