Dollar General recently announced yet another sales and earnings beat for the quarter ended Oct. 30, as it continues to benefit from the current COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

The stock currently trades at TTM PE ratio of 21.3x and FY21 PE ratio of 18.7, significantly below its peers.

Despite a 39% YTD run up, Dollar General is a good long-term investment and remains at least 7% undervalued.

Dollar General is a very unglamorous company, the best kind for value-oriented investors. This is a very well-run company in a higher growth mode than one might think. Dollar stores are generally resistant to economic downturns and recessions. An expected yield in the low teens is attractive. Our only concern is multiple contraction, yet it will likely stay elevated until investors are comfortable buying riskier assets. This company has a lot going for it and we plan to stay along for the ride.

Dollar General rides JPMorgan confidence higher

JPMorgan lifts its price target on Dollar General (DG +1.8%) to $250 from $230 after sitting down with the company's management team and seeing a track for the retailer's top-line momentum to continue.

"Long term, CFO Garratt views DG as ‘really well-positioned’ relative to historic +2-4% comp algorithm (or potentially higher), given a laundry list of initiatives, tried-and-true new customer playbook to drive stickiness post-pandemic, and a model well suited for the broader value oriented/ trade-down consumer backdrop."

The price target from JPMorgan reps 21% upside potential for DG and is above the average Wall Street PT of $221.68.
