Im Umfeld von Übernahmegerüchten haben die Aktien des vermutlich konkursreifen niederländischen Software-Herstellers Baan (WKN: 895467) deutlich zugelegt. Mit 2,52 Euro gegen 14:30 MEZ notierten die Papiere des Unternehmens um 56,5 Prozent fester.

Nach derzeit am Markt kursierenden Gerüchten sei der US-Konzern Oracle an Baan insgesamt, beziehungsweise an einzelnen Unternehmenssparten, interessiert. Dies könnte Finanzlage von Baan nach Ansicht von Analysten „etwas mehr in Balance“ bringen.

In Frankfurt gewinnt die Baan-Aktie 64,73 Prozent und legt auf 2,63 Euro zu.

Baan rises on optimism for financing, new markets

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands--Baan shares rose as much as 86 percent on optimism that the ailing business software maker
will find new financing and benefit from new Internet-based products.

Expectations that Baan, whose shares have plunged 82 percent this year, will be bought also buoyed the stock. The company`s
shares rose as much as 1.38 euros ($1.24) to 2.99 euros ($2.69). They have doubled from Monday`s record low of 1.26 euros.

"I`ve heard they`ve found a new partner to finance them," said Frank Alexander, a trader at NIB Capital
here. He said the new partner wasn`t named.

Baan needs a savior, either a financial investor or company to purchase it, after seven straight quarters of
losses have drained the company of cash, analysts say.

The company wasn`t available for comment. Chief financial officer Rob Ruijter last week declined to
comment on whether Baan was in talks with a potential buyer.

The company has a financing agreement with Bear Stearns in which the investment bank agreed to buy as
much as 150 million euros ($135 million) of Baan shares. Bear Stearns can choose to cancel the
agreement if Baan shares are below 3 euros ($2.70). While they closed below 3 euros for the first time on
April 26, Bear Stearns hasn`t canceled the agreement, Ruijter said May 15.

Baan said yesterday its new set of software products that allows companies to interact with customers
online is now available. The software enables sales and service employees to stay in contact with
customers by phone, Internet and email and share the data with one another.

Last month Baan posted a first-quarter loss of $26 million, as sales dropped 40 percent. That followed the January resignations of its
chief executive and chief financial officer and the hiring of Lazard Freres to help it raise cash and evaluate "strategic alternatives."
Baan lost $289 million in the full year of 1999.
