Nach guten quartalszahlen ist der Aufwärtstrend nicht zu stoppen, meiner meinung nach sind im biotechbereich noch einige aktien mit sehr viel potential, dazu gehört auch praecis pharma!!!!!

seht euch mal den chart an , super aufwärtstrend, ist nicht aufzuhalten.

Tja, Gekko, ich hoffe sehr, daß du recht hast mit deinem guten
Riecher, weil dann profitiere ich ebenfalls davon. Mir gefällt Prae-
cis unter den vielen Biotechs auch sehr gut und halte sie sogar für
langfristig sehr aussichtsreich. Ein erstes Krebspäperat ist bereits
in Phase III und die bisher war eine ausgezeichnet Verträglichkeit
festzustellen. Die potentiellen Umsätze sollen dann bei über 120 Mio.
$ nur mit diesem Produkt liegen und die anderen in der Pipeline sind
auch nicht von schlechten Eltern. Ich habe den Emissionsprospekt der
Firma vorliegen, falls jemand noch weitere Fragen hat. Aber auf der
Website gibt es nicht nur ein Topdesign zu bewundern, sondern alle
Infos, die man braucht sind auch dort zu finden. Der Bestand an "working capital" liegt bei 163 Mio.$. Das reicht auf jeden Fall,
um das Überleben der Gesellschaft bis zu den ersten Produkteinfüh-
rungen zu sichern Ich kann ebenfalls nur zum Kauf raten und würde mich
mit 100 % Gewinn nicht zufrieden geben!

Hallo,

die letzten zwei Abende wurden in der Schlußstunde große Stückzahlen umgesetzt, die dann auch übernacht gehalten wurden, und das bei (stark) steigenden Kursen. Der Verkaufsdruck, auch durch kleinere Orders, ist ME sehr gering. Es sieht so aus, daß PRCS nachwievor ein Insiderwert ist mit wenig Tradern. Das Anti-Krebs Thema ist und bleibt ME immer aktuell und dies ist ja erst der Anfang.
Die Nasdaq scheint ja wie vorprogrammiert und ich habe das Gefühl, jeder steht voll in den Startlöchern. 100$, das wäre schön.
Hoffentlich kommt es nicht alles anders als man denkt...

Zusätzlich verkündete die Firma, daß die Studien der Phase Ia und Ib von Latranal,
sowie einer Studie der Phase II von Latranal inden folgenden Monaten abgeschlossen werden.

Die Firma bestätigte auch seine Absicht, einen neuen Drogeuntersuchungsantrag (IND)
für Apan, sein Drogeanwärter für die Behandlung der Krankheit Alzheimer, während des 4.
Viertels von 2000 zu stellen.

Genau das wäre verkehrt. Mit "großem Anhang" willst Du doch
wohl nicht die Lemminge in die Aktie holen. Wenn Du Informationen
postest(Qualtalsberichte etc.) ist das ja in Ordnung, alles andere
ist pusherei!
Wenn sich dann einer aus Deinen fundierten Informationen ein
Bild von der Aktie macht und einsteigt, hat man wenigstens
qualifizierte Anleger und keine Trader. Und wir wollen doch
noch länger etwas von PRCS haben. :-)

Vorsicht Mahatma! Ob im Moment ein guter Einstieg ist, weiss ich nicht. Am Montag läuft die Lockup aus und es kann nochmal Druck entstehen, muss aber nicht sein. Ich bin jedoch auch der Meinung, das es für die nächste Zeit gut aussieht und grosse Gewinne möglich sind.

New prostate cancer drug abarelix shows benefit

NEW YORK, June 2 (Reuters) - Amgen Inc. (NasdaqNM:AMGN - news) and Praecis Pharmaceuticals Inc.
(NasdaqNM:PRCS - news) said latest trials show their new, jointly developed prostate cancer treatment abarelix reduced levels
of testosterone, a male hormone that fuels the growth of prostate cancer cells, faster than the standard treatment.

Results from two Phase III trials, the final test of a drug before it is submitted to the Food and Drug
Administration for approval, demonstrated that in patients treated with abarelix, testosterone levels were
reduced to a targeted level in 72 percent of patients by the eighth day of treatment. In comparison, no patients
taking the standard drug, Lupron, had testosterone levels reduced to the targeted goal within the eighth day.

Lupron is made by Deerfield, Illinois-based Tap Pharmaceuticals, a joint venture between Abbott Laboratories
Inc. (NYSE:ABT - news) and Takeda Chemical Industries Ltd. of Japan.

The drug met its primary goals of reaching the targeted reduction of testosterone in the first week of treatment,
and the rapidity of achieving and maintaining suppression of the hormone, an Amgen spokeswoman said.

In addition, the study found that patients treated with abarelix, whose trade name, if approved, will be Plenaxis,
did not experience a surge in testosterone levels at the beginning of treatment. By contrast, 82 percent of
patients treated with Lupron experienced a testosterone surge that researchers say could stimulate tumor cell
growth and potentially worsen the symptoms of cancer during the first weeks of treatment.

By the 85th day of the trial, however, both Lupron and abarelix had achieved about the same reduction in testosterone levels. After 85 days both patient groups
achieved about the same decrease in prostate specific antigen (PSA) levels, though those treated with abarelix saw their PSA levels drop faster. PSA levels are a
measure of the amount of testosterone in the blood.

A second trial measured the efficacy of abarelix against a combined therapy comprising Lupron and a drug called Casodex, which is made by Anglo-Swedish
AstraZeneca Plc . Casodex is used in combination with Lupron to offset the testosterone surge that Lupron can cause at the beginning of treatment.

Patients treated with abarelix saw the same level of reduction in testosterone and PSA levels as those treated with the combined therapy. Side effects in both groups
included hot flashes, breast enlargement, breast pain and headaches.

Abarelix is the first of a new class of drugs called gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonists that rapidly suppress the production of testosterone and other
hormones at the beginning of therapy. If approved, it could be on the market as early as June 12.

The two biotech companies said in a statement that they plan to meet with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ``in an effort to clarify the various deficiencies cited in the FDA`s letter, and to discuss what further steps need to be taken before the application may be approved.``

Amgen and Praecis submitted a New Drug Application for their experimental drug, called Plenaxis, for the treatment of hormonally responsive prostate cancer. The NDA was submitted in December.

NEW YORK, June 13 (Reuters) - Credit Suisse First Boston said on Wednesday that it has raised its investment rating on Praecis Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NasdaqNM:PRCS - news) to strong buy from buy a day after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration delayed approval on one of its drugs.

Analyst Meirav Chovav said in a research note that the Tuesday drop of 26.74 percent in share price creates a ``buying opportunity.``
``We believe at the current stock price of $15-$16, no value is being paid for Abarelix in any indication,`` Chovav said. ``If as we expect , Abarelix is approved over the next six-12 months, the PRCS (Praecis) stock price could easily double or triple from this point.``
On Tuesday, Praecis and Amgen Inc. (NasdaqNM:AMGN - news), Praecis`s partner in developing the prostate cancer drug Plenaxis, said the FDA informed the companies that their New Drug Application is ``inadequate for approval.``

Genau, lassen wir doch die FDA herummaulen! Wir führen das Medikament einfach sofort ein (=6 Monate Vorlaufzeit benötigen beide Firmen sowiso) :crazy:
"Inadequat" kann unter anderem unzureichende Signifikanz der Studie bedeuten.

Fällt nun ein großes Schaf vom Himmel, und erklärt mir den tieferen Sinn dieser Empfehlung?


Chovav said in a research note that there is a high likelihood of the drug being approved by mid-2002 and Praecis also has a treatment for back pain (Latranal) undergoing the second phase of clinical trials. Praecis also is expected to have two investigational new drug filings with the FDA by the end of the year, Chovav said.

Praecis shares closed at $16.55 on Tuesday.

Nicht das ich falch verstanden werde: Praecis könnte durchaus jetzt ein Kauf sein, aber der Analyst tut so, als wäre sein Schwippschwager bei der FDA.

Ich hab PRCS nach dem Fall gekauft, leider weiter gefallen, jetzt 40 % minus. Ist in zwei Tagen nicht der nächste FDA-Termin? Es sind immer noch Ausverkaufskurse - also zugreifen ?!

The FDA recommended that company analyze the allergic reactions that occurred in a small subset of clinical trial patients and expressed concern that in a subset of patients testosterone suppression was not maintained beyond the 3-month pivotal study timeframe. Company is considering various alternatives to address the latter issue, which may include additional clinical trials. The meeting was a follow-up to decision by the FDA in June not to approve company and Amgen`s (AMGN) NDA for Plenaxis due to deficiencies in the application.

Auf keinen Fall: Denn sonst wären die Leutchen schon mit ihrem EMI pleite gegangen (ich sach nur Krung Thai Bank und Bank International Indonesia zu den jetzigen Schäppchenkursen aufgreifen). Im Ernst: GBI hat offenbar schon große Probleme, die englischen Texte korrekt zu übersetzen.

Man muss sich mal folgende Aussagen der Analystin Chovav im Mund zergehen lassen:

14.6.2001: ``We believe at the current stock price of $15-$16, no value is being paid for Abarelix in any indication,`` Chovav said.

18.9.2001: CSFB [...]believes issue of potential inferiority to other commercially available drugs beyond 3 to 6 months such as Lupron is a material concern since it could affect the market potential of Plenaxis (=neuer Name von Abarelix) Praecis-Kurs heute bei $5,23, also ein Drittel des Empfehlungskurses.

Ich verstehe so langsam, warum sich die Analysten normalerweise bei Empfehlungen nicht gerne beim Namen nennen lassen.

die saust, glaub ich noch weiter runter.

Ich halt das bald nicht mehr aus.

Tut mir leid.

Ich kann dir leider auch nicht viel Hoffnung machen, denn ein Verkaufsdruck könnte weiter bis zum Ende des Jahres aufrecht bleiben, damit die Verluste, die nun jeder Investor hat, auch steuerlich angerechnet werden können. Mit einer plötzlichen Aufwärtsbewegung aufgrund positiver Nachrichten ist aufgrund der Pipelinestruktur von PRCS IMHO kaum zu rechnen.
Und für jeden Investor, der bei 40 $ gekauft hat, ist es eigentlich egal, ob er bei 4 $ oder bei 1 $ verkauft, d.h mit besonders vorsichtigem, zögerlichen Verkaufsverhalten ist auch nicht zu rechnen. Die einzige echte Stütze sind die Cash-Bestände (immerhin 5,8 $ pro Aktie), aber da habe ich mit IBPI auch sehr abenteuerliche Sachen erlebt (Kurs von 1 $ bei Cashbeständen von 2,4 $) .

Alles nur meine subjektive Einschätzung, Du musst selber entscheiden!

While the broad Amex Biotechnology Index can`t seem to put any real distance from its year lows set in April, there are some decent buys to be found if you look closely. Fair-weather biotech investors have been scared off, leaving some fundamentally sound stocks bruised but not beaten. Call them biotech bargains because fund managers are finding the low prices irresistible.
Here are four such biotech bargains, all on the buy list of various fund managers, especially at current market prices -- Praecis Pharmaceuticals (PRCS:Nasdaq - news - commentary - research), Inhale Therapeutic (INHL:Nasdaq - news - commentary - research), Bio-Technology General (BTGC:Nasdaq - news - commentary - research), Interneuron (IPIC:Nasdaq - news - commentary - research).

Now, before you call your broker, a healthy dose of caution is in order. All of these companies have some hair on them -- they wouldn`t be oversold if they were gems. Nor will they ever be mistaken for the next Amgen (AMGN:Nasdaq - news - commentary - research). And in some cases, the expected upside is still a ways down the road. But again, fund managers are nibbling on these companies because the low prices outweigh the risks right now.

Praecis Pharmaceuticals: If these stocks are hairy, then Praecis is Chewbacca. Last week, shares in the company tumbled more than 35% after Amgen pulled the plug on a partnership to develop a new prostate cancer drug called Plenaxis. In June, the Food and Drug Administration deemed Plenaxis` marketing application "inadequate for approval."

But at Monday`s closing price of $3.81 a share, Praecis is trading well below cash, pegged at $5.53 a share as of June 30. And Plenaxis, for all its recent hiccups, looks like an effective prostrate cancer drug. Praecis is expected to use some of its $282 million cash reserve to answer the remaining regulatory questions. The company also may seek a new partner. Plenaxis is not expected to be a huge seller, but if Praecis can get it approved, the company`s shares will rebound.

Inhale Therapeutic: Investors left the company gasping in July after its highly anticipated inhaled insulin drug, Exubera, was delayed. Inhale`s partner Pfizer (PFE:NYSE - news - commentary - research) is driving Exubera`s development, but the pharmaceutical giant hasn`t said much about what`s holding the drug up. An approval filing was expected by the end of the year, but Pfizer is now saying that additional tests might be needed.

But Inhale is not just about developing technology for the delivery of inhaled drugs, and it`s not completely dependent on Exubera for its survival. In May, Inhale acquired Shearwater, expanding its repertoire into technology to improve the effectiveness of injectable drugs. Through Shearwater, Inhale now stands to earn royalties on the sale of 14 drugs, including PEG-Intron, a recently approved Hepatitis C treatment marketed by Schering-Plough (SGP:NYSE - news - commentary - research). Inhale also will earn royalties when Amgen gets approval to sell Neupogen SD/01 -- an improved version of its blockbuster drug Neupogen -- sometime next year.

It`s true that Inhale is still judged largely by the outcome of Exubera, and the risks are plentiful. Pfizer is expected to shed some light on Exubera`s future at its December analyst meeting, and few biotech observers have given up hope that the drug will be a big seller. But despite this uncertainty, Inhale has diversified with the Shearwater acquisition, and at its current price of about $12 a share, the company`s stock looks oversold.

Bio-Technology General: An overlooked (profitable) biotech company. Bio-Technology General`s biggest seller is Oxandrin, a drug developed five years ago to reverse dangerous weight loss in AIDS patients. The benefit from so-called AIDS drug "cocktails" put a crimp in this market, so the company inked a partnership with Abbott Laboratories (ABT:NYSE - news - commentary - research) in May 2000 to sell the drug to nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.

Elderly patients, it seems, gain weight and strength when given Oxandrin. Pushed by the Abbott sales reps, Oxandrin sales rose 200% to more than $34 million in the first half of this year, compared with the first six months of 2000. And Abbott is motivated to sell the drug because it seems to boost the effectiveness -- and sales -- of its own nutritional supplements. While no one expects the explosive growth rates of Oxandrin to last, it seems as if the drug has found a profitable and growing niche.

Bio-Technology General also sells three other, smaller drugs, all of which are expected to contribute to earnings of 40 cents a share this year and 50 cents a share in 2002. At its Monday close of $6.76 a share, the company is trading at 13.5 times 2002 earnings. Cheap.

Interneuron: Talk about a company left for dead. Remember the fen-phen diet drug debacle of the late 1990s? Well, Interneuron developed the "fen" portion of the dangerous combination, which was sold through a license to American Home Products (AHP:NYSE - news - commentary - research). Both companies were buried under billions of dollars in consumer lawsuits, and Interneuron, being a small biotech, was thrown on the sector`s trash heap.

But in May, the dark cloud lifted. Interneuron was able to force AHP into a settlement that protected the company from any further legal liability. In essence, the fen-phen disaster was deemed to be an AHP problem, allowing Interneuron to focus attention on its drug development pipeline.

And one experimental drug in particular is drawing a lot of interest. The company has inked a partnership with Pfizer to develop Pagaclone as a new type of drug to treat patients suffering from panic attacks and general anxiety disorders.

Pagaclone could be a big drug because it may treat patients effectively without the bad side effects of existing drugs. Valium, for instance, is addictive and causes drowsiness, while drugs like Xanex can cause sexual dysfunction and insomnia.

Now, Pfizer is developing Pagaclone in the Big Pharma way -- that means large, time-consuming trials involving lots of patients, and not much public disclosure into how things are going. But Pfizer is expected to talk about Pagaclone`s development during its December analyst meeting, and if all goes well, the drug may reach the FDA in 2003 or 2004.

In the weeks after Interneuron inked its fen-phen settlement with AHP, the company`s stock soared to $10 a share, after trading as low as $1.15 a share. Today, Interneuron trades at about $4 a share, which makes it an attractive, low-risk investment for many institutional investors.

@KarlPaul: In der Tat! Es sieht so aus, als hätten sich die Anleger "ausgekotzt". Bei VRTX sorgte eine solche Meldung für 25 % Kursrückgang, hier nach anfänglichen Verlusten ein 3 prozentiges plus.
Die Chancen für das Unternehmen sind dadurch natürlich limitiert, aber nach unten scheint der Boden im Großen und Ganzen gefunden worden zu sein. Vielleicht unterschätze ich aber die kommenden Verkäufe wegen der Steuer noch.

Sanofi says gives up rights to cancer drug
PARIS, Oct 26 (Reuters) - France`s Sanofi-Synthelabo said on Friday it had given up its rights to Abarelix, an experimental treatment for prostate cancer and endometriosis which was also abandoned by U.S. biotech giant Amgen Inc. (NasdaqNM:AMGN - news).

Sanofi gave no reasons for renouncing the rights, acquired in 1997 from Praecis Pharmaceuticals Inc (NasdaqNM:PRCS - news) which would have allowed it to develop and market Abarelix in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. Abarelix is the chemical name of prostate cancer drug Plenaxis.

A spokesman for Sanofi also declined further comment.
Sanofi`s move follows an earlier announcement by Amgen and Praecis that they had agreed to end a pact to jointly develop and commercialise Plenaxis, sending Praecis stock tumbling more than 20 percent in New York on Thursday.
Praecis said it would develop the drug on its own.
The news from Sanofi and Amgen, which comes three months after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration rejected an application to market the drug as ``inadequate,`` suggests that the two firms have lost confidence that FDA concerns can be resolved.
