Betrachtet man bei den "Speicheraktien" VERITAS, NETWORK APPLIANCE und EMC die Performance des letzten Jahres, dann ergibt sich folgendes Bild:
Veritas 606%
NTAP 432%
EMC 151%
Für die letzten 6 Monate gilt:
Veritas 363%
NTAP 394%
EMC 92%
Vom Performancestandpunkt scheinen Veritas und NTAP also überlegen.

Data Banks of the Post-PC Era*
Sandisk Versus Network Appliance
by Chris Connor
Click here for the introduction to the Ultimate Storage Championship.
The Match-Up
Fighting out of the red corner is the leading provider of flash memory products, Sandisk {SNDK}. Sandisk held off newcomer Crossroads {CRDS} to advance to this round. Fighting out of the blue corner is the leader of both Network Attached Storage {NAS} and Internet caching, Network Appliance {NTAP}. Network Appliance annihilated JNI Corp {JNIC} in the opening round for the most dominant performance of the tournament thus far. Let the war begin.
Round 1: Which Company has the Superior Leadership Position?
Network Appliance wins impressively here, because Sandisk does not dominate all the areas of flash memory, whereas Network Appliance dominates almost all areas of NAS. Silicon Storage {SSTI} has the advantage in the wireless market for flash memory with its deal with Qualcomm {QCOM}. Furthermore, M-Systems {FLSH} has the advantage in providing flash memory for Internet appliances since its products are focused on local storage (non-removable flash memory), unlike Sandisk`s. Network Appliance`s NAS dominance is evidenced by the recent announcement of the first ever NAS and Storage Area Network (SAN) combined storage solution. Of the six storage companies working together on this solution, Network Appliance is the only company representing NAS.
Round 2: Which Company has a Better Growth Record?
Sandisk`s revenue and earnings growth may have improved remarkably in the last year, but Sandisk has not been nearly as consistent as Network Appliance. On a sequential basis, Network Appliance`s revenues have grown an average of about 15.5 percent each quarter for thirteen consecutive quarters. On a yearly basis, Network Appliance`s revenues increased 90 percent from $65.6 million to $124.7 million from 1998 to 1999. Network Appliance`s earnings per share have also grown consistently - with nine consecutive quarters of EPS growth. Looking to projected growth, guess who wins again? Yes, Network Appliance. Analysts project that Network Appliance will grow its earnings 48 percent a year over the next five years, while they project that Sandisk will grow its earnings only 27.5 percent a year over that time frame.
Round 3: Which Company`s Industry has a Brighter Outlook?
This is undoubtedly the toughest round of this match-up, because flash memory has vast potential due to the projected proliferation of hand-held devices. Hand-held devices such as Palm Pilots, wireless phones, and MP3 players use flash memory products because they are small and do not require power to store data. However, Internet infrastructure in the form of network storage and caching gets the nod here. Network Appliance is firmly in the driver`s seat of the NAS-SAN combination because NAS will be the central element of this combined storage solution. This NAS-SAN combination should be the standard for network storage, which will house data from both the Internet and a company`s enterprise. Caching enables streaming media, which is the future of the Internet. Streaming media facilitates such broadband intensive applications as video conferencing, pay-per-view events, and the distribution of movies via the Internet.
The Winner
Network Appliance wins another unanimous decision and advances to the championship to face either Novell {NOVL} or Veritas {VRTS}. Either of those two companies should provide Network Appliance with more competition than it has faced in this tournament, so far, because both companies` software will play pivotal roles in the management of data.

Hallo zusammen!
Veritas schreibt Verluste, aber nur wenn man Aquisitionen in das Ergebnis einrechnet:
http://www.de.veritas.com/presse/q4_99.html
Was haltet ihr eigentlich von Legato? Im gleichen Bereich tätig wie Veritas, aber
wesentlich günstiger bewertet. Nun ja, die Umstände des Kursrutsches sind
hinreichend bekannt. Sollten sich die Anschuldigungen aber als unrichtig
erweisen, kann man wohl eine schöne Rally erwarten.
