Sify Amongst Select Group of `Superbrands` in India; Joins Ranks of the World`s Best Known Brands in Just Five Years

CHENNAI, India, Sep 4, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Sify Limited (Nasdaq:SIFY), India`s premier Internet, networking and eCommerce company, announced today its `Sify` brand being selected as one of India`s `Superbrand` by a panel of eminent marketing and advertising professionals.

The selection criteria was "A Superbrand offers consumers significant emotional and/or physical advantages over its competitors which (consciously or sub-consciously) consumers want, recognize, and are willing to pay a premium for."

The process of selection circumvented any ranking by market share, but focused on the more permanent, but harder to achieve, criteria of brand image and perception. Hence the selection influencers were the brands` mind dominance, goodwill, consumer loyalty, trust and emotional bonding.

Mr R Ramaraj, MD and CEO said, "I am really pleased that, in a matter of five years, Sify has established itself in the minds of Indians to emerge as a `Superbrand`. This is a validation of Sify`s pioneering role in developing Internet and network services in India, with a sharp focus on quality services and customer care. The credit goes to our discerning customers, both corporate and consumer, and the entire Sify team who have made this possible."

Superbrands is a concept started 10 years ago in the UK to chronicle case studies of exceptional brands; to pay tribute to them and their brand guardians. Since then it has been replicated in 26 countries. Some of these are: Australia, France, Germany, Holland, Hong Kong, Italy, Malaysia, Philippines, USA, Singapore, Spain, UAE, Indonesia, Ireland, Egypt, Denmark and India. 17 countries have already published 27 volumes featuring 1500 brands. Some brands like Coke and American Express have appeared in almost all the editions.

In every country, Superbrands are seen as the ultimate source for drawing inspiration and learning how brands are built or fight back.

The independent Superbrands Council of eminent professionals from Marketing and Advertising:

Mr. Anmol Dar, President of Frank Simoes Advertising & Council Chairperson

Mr. K.M.S. (Titoo) Ahluwalia, Chairman of AC Nielsen ORG-MARG

AC: Langfristig bietet das Unternehmen also glänzende Wachstumsperspektiven.

      Non-GAAP Financial Information

Our presentation of financial information above includes a presentation of Adjusted EBITDA. EBITDA is neither an Indian GAAP measure nor a U.S. GAAP measure and should not be considered in isolation or as an alternative to net income as an indicator of operating performance or as an alternative to cash flow as a measure of liquidity. Our presentation above also includes a reconciliation of Adjusted EBITDA to net loss, which we believe to be the most comparable financial measure under U.S. GAAP.

Adjusted EBITDA is presented because it is a basis upon which our management assesses our financial performance and because we believe some investors find it to be a useful tool for measuring a company`s ability to fund operating obligations and capital expenditures. Investors evaluating our financial performance or analyzing our discounted cash flows based on Adjusted EBITDA should consider financing activities and non-recurring charges that are not included in the calculation.

Our calculation includes significant charges recorded to reflect the impairment of goodwill which are not included in the calculation of EBITDA under the SEC`s rules applicable to periodic reports. While EBITDA or derivations thereof are frequently reported by many companies as a supplemental measure of operations, it is not necessarily comparable to other similarly titled captions of other companies due to potential inconsistencies in the method of calculation.

      Forward Looking Statements

AC: Langfristig bietet das Unternehmen also glänzende Wachstumsperspektiven.

Sify Launches Country Wide Video-Conferencing at iWay Cyber Cafes; Makes Video-Conferencing Affordable for Everyone at Rs 5 a Minute

NEW DELHI & CHENNAI, India--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 2003--Sify Limited(NASDAQ-NMS:SIFY) (Nasdaq:SIFY) launched today its video conferencing service, branded `iMeet`, at its iWay chain of cyber cafe`s across the country.

The service was inaugurated with a video-conference between Shri Arun Shourie, Union Minister for Information Technology, Communications and Disinvestment in New Delhi and Shri Vivek Harinarain, IT Secretary of Tamil Nadu, in Chennai.

Commenting on the launch of this new service, Shri Arun Shourie, said, "An affordable video-conferencing service is a major initiative for a country like India. I believe it will revolutionize the way consumers and business people communicate with each other according to the occasion or need. This is something India can be proud of, as very few countries in the world have such a service available for the masses".

"This is likely to have the social & business impact that STD booths had when they became available everywhere. In fact it will be a boon for businesses, saving them time & money, while enabling important discussions without having to travel. Consumers also can regularly meet loved ones in distant cities without travelling to them. I am happy that Sify has brought this service to India, that too at an affordable price of Rs 5 a minute", said Shri Vivek Harinarain, commenting on the launch.

Mr Ramaraj, MD & CEO, Sify, said, "The true potential of the Internet lies in its multi-media capability. Making this available widely at affordable prices will greatly benefit both consumers and businesses. For instance, a newly married bride located in Chennai can `meet` her parents in Delhi whenever she wants; or a frequent-traveller father can regularly `meet` his wife and children when on tour. Similarly, the owner of a business can now speak face to face with sales people, suppliers or customers across the country cost effectively; while sales managers can conduct periodic sales reviews with field staff without regular country-wide travel. Empowering people with the power of the Internet with such services to enhance their quality of life is what we mean when we say `Making the Internet work for you`.

The service is enabled over Sify`s Tier 1 backbone infrastructure and the broadband connectivity of the iWay chain. The video-conferencing facility can be booked, once the calling parties decide to meet, at a convenient iWay in each city. The video-conference can then be initiated at the appointed time for a face to face discussion.

Soon users can also video-conference with their relatives or business associates in India or abroad, who have a broadband connection, as well as video conferencing capability with a multi media PC and a webcam.

At Rs 5 a minute for both participants, this service is available at over 100 iWays across 24 cities and will be scaled up to 350 iWays in 40 cities in the near future. As the concept finds acceptance, it will be made available across the chain of over 1200 iWays in the country.

Hallo Sify-Freunde.
