Artificial Life Announces 1999 Fiscal Year and Q4 Results
PR Newswire - March 20, 2000 22:13
Revenue Growth Exceeded 700%
BOSTON, March 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Boston based Artificial Life Inc. (Nasdaq: ALIF), a leading provider of intelligent software
robot (bot) technology for Internet applications, today announced results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ended December 31,
1999. Fourth quarter revenues were $1,373,037, up from $1,388 in Q4 1998. The loss for Q4 was $3,424,047, up from $887,223
for Q4 1998. The revenues for fiscal year 1999 were $3,909,076 compared to $450,768 for fiscal year 1998, an increase of 767%.
The fiscal year 1999 loss was $6,758,214 compared to $2,191,206 for fiscal 1998, an increase of 208%. The loss per share for
fiscal 1999 was $0.70 compared to a loss per share of $0.30 for fiscal 1998.
"I`m very happy to announce that 1999 was a year of exciting change and expansion," said Robert Pantano, CFO of Artificial Life.
"We experienced strong growth in revenues every quarter, from $439,423 in Q1 to $1,373,037 in Q4. Total revenues grew more
than 700%, whereas the losses grew by only 208% during the same time. This is very satisfying, especially considering that we
established four international subsidiaries and offices last year and grew our team from less than two-dozen employees to more than
200 employees worldwide. We were able to expand dramatically, while still controlling our costs and expenses."
"Our team worked hard last year and continues to do so. With Bruno Gabriel and Manuel Ebner jointly leading the Swiss and
Russian teams, ALife enjoys the leadership of very strong executives with an extensive network. Artificial Life has seen tremendous
growth in the Swiss market, with millions of backlogged ChF (Swiss Franc) revenues already this year," said Eberhard
Schoneburg, chairman and CEO of Artificial Life.
The company has also experienced positive developments in the German and U.S. markets. Rene Gawron and Uwe Noelke are
driving the German market and are preparing several major co-operations. Within the next couple of weeks Artificial Life will begin
a strong TV ad campaign to support efforts in Germany. In the U.S. the company recently acquired its first major contract in the
financial services industry, today announcing that Artificial Life is entering into a contract with Credit Suisse First Boston. Further,
the U.S. has begun to develop a substantive sales pipeline. Currently there are reference installations of products in all countries in
which Artificial Life is active (i.e. Germany, Switzerland and the U.S.A.). In the United Kingdom, the company is already working
on the first insurance installation of the recently announced ALife-Insure solution (details to be announced soon).
"This year we begin harvesting the fruits of our work. Our clients are satisfied and are realizing the competitive advantage to be
gained by using ALife`s innovative bot technology," said Schoneburg. "Products such as ALife-WebGuide and
ALife-PortfolioManager have been well received by clients and will generate substantial revenues for the company this year. By
shipping six products for different vertical markets we are well positioned for the future. However, this does not mean that we will
rest! The opposite is true: we will further extend the application range of our products by launching several distinct and innovative
Web services."
Artificial Life Web services will implement applications of ALife tools in the business-to-consumer and business-to-business
markets and will offer new services to end users and businesses over the Web. The first services are expected to be running before
the end of Q2 2000. In addition, Artificial Life will spin off the company`s mobile computing activities into a separate wholly owned
entity and expects to launch the first products for the mobile devices market this year. Artificial Life`s major goals for 2000 include
keeping the pace of growth and expansion of the last year, investing further in complementary technology and the venture business,
and expanding through the acquisition of clients, partnerships and the launch of new Web services.

Hallo Haevytrader,

In positiver Hoffnung
