Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NasdaqGM: SPPI) today announced that it has received marketing approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Levoleucovorin for Injection. It is indicated after high-dose methotrexate therapy in patients with osteosarcoma, and to diminish the toxicity and counteract the effects of impaired methotrexate elimination or inadvertent overdose of folic acid antagonists. LEVOleucovorin is the only commercially available formulation comprised only of the pharmacologically active enantiomer of leucovorin (Levoleucovorin or (6S)-leucovorin). The Company currently expects its commercial launch by June 2008.
LEVOleucovorin was reviewed under a full NDA, and included an Oncologic Drug Advisory Committee (ODAC) review. Spectrum anticipates that the drug will be listed without any therapeutically equivalent product in the FDA Orange Book. Drugs without therapeutic equivalents are considered 'single source drugs' which under section 1847A of the Social Security Act generally qualify for a separate reimbursement code with CMS.
"LEVOleucovorin is the first new oncology drug approved by the FDA in 2008, and is the first of what we hope will be many approvals from our pipeline," said Rajesh C. Shrotriya, M.D., Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Spectrum Pharmaceuticals. "Only four of the 17 drugs approved by the FDA in 2007 were new oncology drugs. This approval is the result of dedicated efforts by our experienced team and serves as a validation of our business model. We are focused on building a diversified portfolio of promising late stage drugs, and advancing them through clinical development, regulatory process and commercialization."
In preparation for the commercial launch, last year the Company appointed George Uy, an experienced oncology marketing veteran, as its Vice President of Sales and Marketing. George brings more than 20 years of hands on experience, including the launches of ABRAXANE(R) at Abraxis Bioscience, Inc., and XELODA(R) at Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. In addition, the Company recently appointed Lynne Murphy as Executive Director of Sales. Ms. Murphy has more than 20 years of sales and marketing experience, which include many sales leadership positions with responsibility for the launch of more than 10 products during her tenure at Bayer Healthcare. Ms. Murphy also led a specialty sales force for Amgen, Inc., and launched Aranesp(R) Singleject. Ms. Murphy will be responsible for building and assembling a launch team of experienced oncology sales specialists.
"LEVOleucovorin provides physicians and patients with an important treatment alternative to leucovorin," said Richard A. Bender, M.D., F.A.C.P., Chief Medical Officer of Spectrum Pharmaceuticals. "With this drug, patients undergoing cytotoxic chemotherapy are spared the administration of the pharmacologically inactive dextro-isomer. Preclinical studies have shown that the dextro-isomer may compete with the active levo-isomer for transport into cells."
The Company plans to file for a supplemental New Drug Application with the FDA for use in colorectal cancer in 5-fluorouracil containing regimens and an NDA amendment for an oral tablet formulation by mid-year 2008.
Levoleucovorin for Injection is currently listed as a replacement for calcium leucovorin in the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology. The NCCN Drugs and Biologics Compendium is an important reference that has been recognized by United HealthCare as a formal guidance for approval of coverage policy. Visit www.nccn.org for more information.

Umsatz IsoVorin ex US ca. 200 Mio USD.

Was macht Millenium Pharma so interessant?

New Drug Application Filing for Levoleucovorin Tablets Completed by Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
-- NDA for Levoleucovorin for Injection Was Approved by the FDA on March 7th, 2008
-- Spectrum Plans to Launch Levoleucovorin for Injection in the Third Quarter 2008, as Soon as the FDA Approves Its Trade Name
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 2008--Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NasdaqGM:SPPI) today announced that it has completed its filing with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with the filing of an amendment to the New Drug Application (NDA) for Levoleucovorin Tablets. Levoleucovorin for Injection is indicated after high-dose methotrexate therapy in patients with osteosarcoma, and to diminish the toxicity and counteract the effects of impaired methotrexate elimination or inadvertent overdose of folic acid antagonists. LEVOleucovorin is a novel folate analog formulation and the pharmacologically active isomer of calcium leucovorin. Levoleucovorin for Injection is the only commercially available formulation comprised only of the pharmacologically active enantiomer of leucovorin (Levoleucovorin or (6S)-leucovorin).
The Oncology Drug Advisory Committee (ODAC) has already voted affirmatively that the oral formulation is safe and effective when used in the rescue of high dose methotrexate.
"Levoleucovorin Tablets is the natural product line expansion for our recently FDA approved Levoleucovorin for Injection," said Rajesh C. Shrotriya, M.D., Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Spectrum Pharmaceuticals. "If approved, the tablets will provide physicians with a new, more convenient treatment option. Furthermore, we continue to work on filing the supplemental NDA with the FDA for Levoleucovorin for Injection's use in colorectal cancer with 5-fluorouracil containing regimens."
The FDA approved the NDA for Levoleucovorin for Injection on March 7, 2008. The amendment to the NDA filed provides manufacturing information and six months stability data on commercial batches, required by the FDA to complete its review of Levoleucovorin Tablets.
About Levoleucovorin for Injection
LEVOleucovorin is a novel folate analog formulation and the pharmacologically active isomer of calcium leucovorin. LEVOleucovorin is indicated after high-dose methotrexate therapy in patients with osteosarcoma, and to diminish the toxicity and counteract the effects of impaired methotrexate elimination or inadvertent overdose of folic acid antagonists. LEVOleucovorin is the only commercially available formulation comprised only of the pharmacologically active enantiomer of leucovorin (levoleucovorin or (6S)-leucovorin). Upon market launch, LEVOleucovorin will be supplied in 50mg vials of freeze-dried powder. Ex-U.S. sales of LEVOleucovorin by Wyeth, Sanofi-Aventis, and others, are approximately $200 million annually.
Important Levoleucovorin for Injection(TM) Safety Considerations
LEVOleucovorin is contraindicated for patients who have had previous allergic reactions attributed to folic acid or folinic acid. Due to calcium content, no more than 16mL (160mg) of Levoleucovorin for Injection solution should be injected intravenously per minute. Levoleucovorin for Injection enhances the toxicity of fluorouracil. Concomitant use of d,l-leucovorin with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole for Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in HIV patients was associated with increased rates of treatment failure in placebo-controlled study. Allergic reactions were reported in patients receiving Levoleucovorin for Injection. Vomiting (38%), stomatitis (38%) and nausea (19%) were reported in patients receiving Levoleucovorin for Injection as rescue after high dose methotrexate therapy. Levoleucovorin for Injection may counteract the antiepileptic effect of phenobarbital, phenytoin and primidone, and increase the frequency of seizures in susceptible patients.

Sumatriptan (Migräne Generika) startet meines Wissens in 2009.

Spectrum rechnet konservativ mit 200 Mio Dollar/p.a.

Mal schauen.

Revenue for the Second Quarter Was Approximately $20.7 Million Net Income Was Approximately $10.7 Million, the Companys First Profitable Quarter Approximately $60 Million Cash and Equivalents as of June 30, 2008 FUSILEV, the Companys First Proprietary Oncology Drug, to Launch on August 15, 2008
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NasdaqGM: SPPI) today reported financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2008.
During the second quarter of 2008, the Company earned net income of approximately $10.7 million, or $0.34 per share, compared to a net loss of approximately $6.3 million, or ($0.22) per share in the second quarter of 2007. Revenue in the second quarter of 2008 was approximately $20.7 million from the sale of the Companys financial interests in rights in sumatriptan and other injectables, compared to approximately $4.0 million in the second quarter of 2007.
In spite of building a small specialty sales force for the launch of FUSILEV and continued development of the Companys high-priority projects, operating expenses were in line with the prior year. Research and development expenses were approximately $6.7 million in the second quarter of 2008, compared to approximately $7.6 million in the second quarter of 2007. General and administrative expenses were approximately $3.2 million in the second quarter of 2008, compared to $3.4 million in the second quarter of 2007.
As of June 30, 2008, the Company had cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities on hand of approximately $60 million, compared to approximately $56 million as of December 31, 2007. As of August 1, 2008, approximately 31.5 million shares were issued and outstanding.
We are very excited to launch FUSILEV this week. FUSILEV was the first new oncology drug approved by the FDA this year, said Rajesh C. Shrotriya, M.D., Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and President of Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Furthermore, while continuing to develop our high-priority drug candidates, our strategic focus on generating non-dilutive funding provided us with more than $20 million in revenues for the quarter without issuing a single share of stock, resulting in our first profitable quarter in our short history. Given our strong cash position, we can advance our highest priority projects without having to raise capital in the near term.

Nachtrag,
du hast gefragt was hängen bleibt?
Da kann ich nur raten. Keine Ahnung.

Eigentlich sollte Spectrum jetzt schon in Richtung 8 EUR marschieren, eigentlich...

Spectrum Pharmaceuticals Launches FUSILEV(TM)
Friday August 15, 7:00 am ET
-- FUSILEV Is Now Available From Distributors And Wholesalers
-- FUSILEV Was The First Proprietary Oncology Drug Approved By The FDA In 2008
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, Inc., (NasdaqGM: SPPI - News) today launched FUSILEV™ (levoleucovorin) for injection.
“The launch of FUSILEV establishes the foundation of Spectrum’s commercial oncology franchise,” said Rajesh C. Shrotriya, M.D., Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and President of Spectrum Pharmaceuticals. “We believe the market potential of FUSILEV, as a replacement for leucovorin, could be significant. In the U.S., there are more than 500 million milligrams of leucovorin prescribed every year. Our sales, under the currently approved indications, are expected to ramp up slowly until the full range of indications and formulations are approved. We have built a team of highly seasoned sales and marketing professionals with a record of success in launching and marketing oncology drugs.”
The Company recently filed an amendment to its pending New Drug Application (NDA) for FUSILEV Tablets. The Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee (ODAC) has already voted affirmatively that the oral formulation is safe and effective when used in the rescue of high dose methotrexate. The Company continues to work on the supplemental NDA for use of the parenteral formulation in combination with 5-FU containing regimens in advanced metastatic colorectal cancer. As a result of pre-NDA consultation, FDA has recommended a more comprehensive scope of data analysis as the basis for registration in this indication. The Company anticipates filing the supplemental NDA for colorectal cancer by the end of October 2008.
About FUSILEV (levoleucovorin) for injection
FUSILEV, a novel folate analog, is available in 50-mg vials of freeze-dried powder. It is the pharmacologically active isomer of leucovorin. FUSILEV rescue is indicated after high-dose methotrexate therapy in osteosarcoma. FUSILEV is also indicated to diminish the toxicity and counteract the effects of impaired methotrexate elimination and of inadvertent overdosage of folic acid antagonists. FUSILEV (levoleucovorin or (6S)-leucovorin) is the only commercially available formulation comprised only of the pharmacologically active isomer of leucovorin.
Important FUSILEV (levoleucovorin) for injection Safety Considerations
FUSILEV is contraindicated for patients who have had previous allergic reactions attributed to folic acid or folinic acid. Due to calcium content, no more than 16-mL (160-mg) of levoleucovorin solution should be injected intravenously per minute. FUSILEV enhances the toxicity of fluorouracil. Concomitant use of d,l-leucovorin with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole for pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in HIV patients was associated with increased rates of treatment failure in a placebo-controlled study. Allergic reactions were reported in patients receiving FUSILEV. Vomiting (38%), stomatitis (38%) and nausea (19%) were reported in patients receiving FUSILEV as rescue after high dose methotrexate therapy. FUSILEV may counteract the antiepileptic effect of phenobarbital, phenytoin and primidone, and increase the frequency of seizures in susceptible patients.

USD belaufen.
Aktuell werde Spectrum Pharmaceuticals unterhalb seines Cash-Bestandes bewertet.
(Ausgabe 35) (20.08.2008/ac/a/a)
