      I wish chrysler had stayed American instead of being handed over to the Germans! Why can`t U.S. firms stay U.S. ? Can`t these Germans just stay inside Germany and not interfere with us?

      This is not the only german company that replaces americans with germans. It starts at the top and works its way down. No one does anything about it because these are "rich white guys". If I was a young person just starting out in the corporate world I would stay way from these companies because since you are not one of the master race you will hit the glass ceiling. I know first hand that americans in these companies are being told you can go no higher because you are not german. Maybe the EEOC will finally look into these companies.

      Da kommt bloß wieder der alte dümmliche Deutschenhaß heraus.
      Geschürt vor allem von Hollywood seit endlosen Jahrzehnten.
      Seht Euch doch bloß die Filme an, in denen deutsche Schauspieler auftreten und was die für Rollen spielen durften. Von den schwachsinnigen Filmen und Serien auf dem Kabelkanal mal ganz abgesehen.Und abgesehen von den deutschen Regisseuren wie Emmerich u.a.
      Dabei müßten die Amis doch wissen, daß sie ihren Unabhängigkeitskrieg ohne den Magdeburger und Preußen General Friedrich Wilhelm v.Steuben nie gewonnen hätten.

      War doch im Prinzip klar in Angesicht dieses unerträglich aroganten Nationalismus, den nahezu das gesamte amerk. Volk an den Tag legt.

      Schon bei und kurz nach der Fusion konnte man sehen, welch Ausverkauf (von DCX) und damit welche Stimmung in den USA gegenüber Daimler herschte. Heute halt der Chryslerabsatzeinbruch gepaart mit Gerüchten über "deutsches Felverhalten". Unmöglich, allerdings bei der Bildungstiefe in den USA sowie allerlei pol. Unfuggedanken der Parteien nicht wirklich wunderbar.

      Eigentlich müßte man hier breiter angelegt Diskutieren, nur kurz...

      Und das von einem Volk , das nicht mal in der Lage ist , seine Wahlstimmen korrekt zu zählen , wie in Timbuktu !

      Aber was will man schon von Amiland erwarten , wo die Hersteller von Mikrowellengeräten allen Ernstes in die Bedienungsanleitung schreiben müssen , daß die Geräte nicht zum Trocknen nasser Haustiere geeigenet sind .
      Insbesondere die Amiweiber sind sowas von strunzdumm ...

      I welcome the decision to send over Mr. Zetsche to turn around the Chrysler part of DCX.

      In many companies, a "tough" change is the only way to waken up people and go forward.

      This has nothing to do with "germanisation" of the company.
      I have lived in Germany - being a european citizen - and I have liked to work with Germans. They are very straight but expect from the partners the same approach, NO messing around.

      Ich würde diese Volksverhetzung nicht überbewerten. Das ist der gleiche Abschaum von Nazis, die wir leider auch in Deutschland nicht im Griff haben. Diese paar Idioten sind kein Grund, gleich auf die ganze USA herum zuhacken. Die meisten Amis würden diesen Bodensatz auch lieber hinter Schloß und Riegel sehen.

      Tatsache ist, es geht um unsere Daimler-Aktie, und Tatsache ist auch, daß Schrempp mit Billigung des inkompetentesten Aufsichtsrates, der je existierte, seit der Chrysler-Übername permanent Scheiße gebaut hat.

      Can it get any worse for Chrysler?


      The past couple of weeks Jurgen Schrempp, chief executive of DaimlerChrysler (nyse: DCX), had been telling reporters that he was brilliant in deliberately lying to Chrysler executives when he devised the combination of Mercedes and Chrysler two years ago. He bragged how he told the Americans it was a "merger of equals" because he knew they wouldn`t accept his real plan to reduce the rich American vehicle maker to a division of the German company.


      That`s Act 1.


      Now Act 2.


      Schrempp just fired the American president of the Chrysler piece of the company. This is the third American removed as a top officer of Chrysler in two years. Now Schrempp is sending over Dieter Zetsche, a German, to run Chrysler from its headquarters in Auburn Hills, near Detroit.


      When Schrempp convinced the Chrysler board to sell the company it was one of the most successful car companies in the world. Now, two years later, the company is in shambles.


      Chrysler lost $500 million in its latest quarter; it`s market share has been dropping; plants are closing in order to cut inventories; and James Holden, the Chrysler chief executive that Schrempp put in office just one year ago, has just been given the axe.


      Now, there`s talk that more losses are coming since there`s no leadership and morale is at rock bottom. A few weeks ago, Chrysler`s highly respected designer and leader, Tom Gale, announced that he, too, is leaving at the end of the year.


      As a whole, the stock price for DaimlerChrysler, which peaked at more than $100, is less than $50, which means that the entire pre-merger market value of Chrysler has been wiped out. Schrempp`s September purchase of one-third of Mitsubishi, which is losing buckets of money, hasn`t helped either.


      Act 3? Maybe the German board will reconsider Schrempp`s stay as chairman.


      This is the second major disaster in the auto world that has come out of Germany. The first was BMW`s purchase of British Rover; maker of Rover cars and Land Rover sports utility vehicles (SUV). The acquisition cost BMW billions of dollars and resulted in the German company firing or losing its most seasoned executives, giving away the Rover car business (actually, paying some Brits to take it) and selling the Land Rover portion to Ford.


      The Germans build good cars but make lousy conquerors.


      So what`s wrong with Chrysler?


      Start with product: Chrysler let the competition catch up on core vehicles.


      For example, this is clear in the case of the Dodge Durango sports utility vehicle. When first introduced, Durango was a giant success because it was the only $30,000 SUV with three rows of seats. Now competitors, such as General Motors` (nyse: GM) Chevy Tahoe, have three rows. And Durango hasn`t come up with any new innovations, causing sales to slip. Ditto for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, where a 1999 redesign didn`t move the envelope enough.


      The Dodge Big Ram pickup was, and still is, the best looking big pickup, but GM and Ford have brought out new models with advanced engineering and more interior room. Yet, Chrysler sat still and sales are slipping.


      Instead of having a truly advanced minivan this fall, the new Chrysler minivan looks a lot like the old one, with few new features except for power doors and a power back hatch. That`s not enough--particularly against such solid competitors as the Honda Odyssey. The new Chrysler minivan is still a top seller, but the company has had to resort to discount financing to help it hold market share.


      DaimlerChrysler also made a questionable move in killing Plymouth, a venerable brand that was started by the company`s founder, Walter P. Chrysler, in 1932.


      Where the Chrysler product is superior, it sells well. Look at the Dakota, the small pickup truck. It is the largest of the small pickups, the best looking and the only one offering a V-8 engine. The Dakota also has four doors--something the rival Chevy model doesn`t. Resulting in a rise of 27% in sales this year. Or look at the Chrysler PT Cruiser, the retro-design wagon that`s possibly the hottest car in the world today. But Chrysler`s former leaders, who are all gone, created the PT.


      Now Daimler`s only choice is to install effective American leadership or see this huge multibillion-dollar investment collapse. This will be bigger than the Rover disaster.


      Why not bring back a hero? Examples:


      Robert Lutz, former president and vice-chairman, leader of the team that created the winning Chrysler of a few years ago.


      Tom Stallkamp who became president of Chrysler after the Germans took over, but was fired for criticizing German moves.


      Lee Iacocca. This is a stretch because Lee was discredited when he tried to take Chrysler away from its last American managers. But since that team sold the company to the Germans, now Lee doesn`t look so wrong.


      If one of these men returned, I have no doubt that Chrysler`s men and women would rally as they have in the past and confidence and enthusiasm would return. Of course, such a return would be a sign of self-rule and not domination. These men would not work under any other conditions.


      It won`t happen. Executives--whether American or German--don`t admit mistakes. BMW bailed out of Rover five years after its purchase. Now time is running out in Stuttgart.


      Act 3 and Act 4 may not be long in coming.

      Seh ich das eigentlich falsch , oder ist es seit Jahrzehnten so , daß die Sparte Mercedes bei Daimler konstant fette Gewinne macht , die dann von den jeweiligen CEO`s für alle möglichen Experimente (AEG,Fokker,Adtranz usw. und jetzt auch Chrysler) milliardenweise verfeuert werden ???

      Nicht auszudenken , wo Mercedes zusammen mit AMG als Spinoff an der Börse jetzt stehen könnte .... (siehe Porsche AG ) !
      Schrempp wäre gut beraten sich mal mit Wiedeking ausführlich zu unterhalten , vielleicht lernt er was von ihm .

      I don`t vant to hear anymore remarks about zer falling standards of our beloved Mercedes. Vee are werking on zer new model right now.       Das will der doch bloss. Der hat doch schon bei der Übernahme (ää.. merger)
      gewaltig abezockt. Noch so ein Prozessgekasper wie bei den

      straightforward, I like your style. I was thinking the very same thing - when all those morons were eating cake and celebrating when the so called "merger" took place. You should have seen those pigs eating that cake, many of the imbeciles were hoarding the cake, putting it in boxes and dragging it off to their lowly cubes. These animals were acting like they had never eaten before. Pure trash.

      Well not everyone was blessed with common sense and an IQ above 100 or else they would have seen this coming from a mile away as the expression goes. Well, all the top officers need to be brought up on fraud charges, especially Mr. Bloat (Cheatin Eaton, or is that Eating Eaton).

      These NAZI`s. are laughing all the way to the bank. Where was our congress and president when this travesty was taking place. Maybe he was too busy getting a knob job to care about American jobs.

      Kurz vor der Grenze zum RassismusChrysler middle management have been instructed , nay, commanded, by their German superiors to wear riding breeches and leather calf length boots at all time!

      Breaking wind in public is also to be encouraged.

      Also rest-room refurbishment along the German model is now being considered.
      To give you a flavor (or should I say aroma) for this, please read the following article:German Toilets (June 3, 1997)

      Somehow or other I got to talking about German toilets last night, so I thought it was time that I wrote a short essay on the subject.

      German toilets are quite extraordinary. Other European toilets - or at least the ones that aren`t merely holes in the floor - work much like the North American variety. They are shaped a little differently, but the basic principle is the same: the excrement either lands directly in the water or it slides down a steep slope into the water, before being flushed away. Simple, effective and clean. See?


      "Normal" toilet

      Not so the German toilet. The excrement lands on a bone-dry horizontal shelf, mere inches beneath one`s posterior. Repeated flushings are required to slide the ordure off the shelf into a small water-filled hole, from which it hopefully disappears. See?


      German toilet

      I do not understand the purpose of this toilet. It does not save water - you must flush it eight or ten times to remove every last scrape and smear. It is not hygienic - the smell is ungodly. The only conceivable explanation is that Germans love to examine their stool, so the German toilet of necessity features a built-in stool inspection shelf. I wouldn`t be surprised if the more expensive models include a digital scale. "Mein Gott, zwei kilogram!" exclaims Günter, joyful and relieved.

      Germans see nothing amiss. They actually like their toilets. Some even dislike North American toilets. You splash yourself, they claim. I don`t think this is possible. I`ve never splashed myself sitting on the toilet. For the wave to reach one`s bottom, one would need to eject a hefty pellet at tremendous velocity. I think they`re making that up.

      We`ve had innumerable bad experiences with German toilets. In Berlin, we lived on an upper floor and the water pressure was too weak to push a healthy-sized log off the shelf. After a few minutes` fruitless flushing you`d be forced to grab a wad of toilet paper and give the horrid thing an encouraging nudge. Then followed a lengthy bout of brushing and cleaning to remove the skid marks from the porcelain. At the other extreme, in Munich we lived in a basement suite where the water pressure was too high. Worse, the shelf was actually slightly concave, forming a shallow bowl. The first time I flushed the toilet the water came rushing through so forcefully that a small chunk of poop launched off the lip and shot out over the floor. After that we always held the lid down when we flushed. I swore you could feel a kick as the turd ricoched off the underside.

      Occasionally I try to convince my wife to write an article on the history of the German toilet. Instant tenure if she could explain the purpose of that shelf.
