Safety Scan Technology Works With NASA Outreach Program to Assist in Aquacorder Development
Thursday July 7, 8:45 am ET
RALEIGH, NC--(MARKET WIRE)--Jul 7, 2005 -- Safety Scan Technology, Inc. (SSTI) a portfolio company of HydroFlo, Inc. (OTC BB:HYRF.OB - News) today announced the assistance of NASA-funded Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP) to help streamline their revolutionary technology, the Aquacorder.
The technology, Swept Frequency Acoustic Interferometry (SFAI), was originally created by Dr. Dipen N. Sinha with Los Alamos National Laboratories. It utilizes high frequency sound waves to analyze and detect pre-programmed contaminants in water systems through metal, glass, ceramic, and plastic barriers.
" This technology will allow our customers the ability to analyze their water supply immediately and without opening the container," said Mike Doss, Safety Scan Technology`s Chief Operating Officer.
SSTI approached SATOP for assistance in consolidating the electronics associated with SFAI into a smaller, potentially hand-held sized unit, in contrast to the bulkier equipment currently in use. " This new technology is light-years ahead of anything else on the market right now and should revolutionize the way water is controlled and analyzed," said Christophe Gilfriche, SATOP Florida senior program engineer.
" My research concluded that the SFAI device can be miniaturized to the size of a commercially available handheld device using commercially available components," Kovach said.

Those were great news for HYRF and the stock jumped 22% yesterday. HYRF`s CEO said his company will get 70% of the deal with CEIEC, so, the price of each product being $20, HYRF will receive from EYII $14 for each Code Blue Water Filtration System sold to CEIEC.

HYRF then has the production costs, which we still don`t know how much they will be, but the move the company made changing production from Switzerland to China will without a doubt increase HYRF`s profit margin.

This is for the deal with CEIEC alone. CEIEC has a big quantity discount from EYII, so the profit margin is lower in this case for EYII. But for other costumers EYII sells the product at prices ranging from $40 to $70.
If you thinking of selling this is must read... The opportunity risk.. is yours...

Exerpt taken from David Randolph post...
Let`s imagine HYRF will be able to produce Code Blues at $7 each (probably they will be able to do it at a lower cost, but let`s be conservative). They make a profit of $7 on each unit sold.

CEIEC must purchase a minimum of 4,000,000 filters in 2006 and another 4,000,000 in 2007, but this number can rise to more than 30,000,000. Anyway, 4,000,000*$7 = $28,000,000 in profits from this deal alone for HYRF.OB in 2006 and 2007. The market cap of the company is $35.4M, so the very conservative P/E Ratio of the company for 2006 is 1.26

There`s no doubt, HYRF.OB will continue to sky rocket in the coming days and weeks.

      My take on this...
I`m with David. This is just for CODE BLUE which is MARTI !HYRF has a few other companies..

Yesterday’s release of information also declared initial production estimates in amounts of up to
1,200 pitchers and 4,000 filters daily; however, after further negotiation and discussion with the
manufacturer, these numbers have increased by more than 5 times their original projections. The
company today announced that approximately 8,000 pitchers and 25,000 filters with begin the initial daily production goal. The new manufacturer will produce over 2 million pitchers and 6 million
filters per year; providing the company more opportunity for order fulfillment than ever before.
MARTI also announced that contracts are complete with a textile firm in Eastern North Carolina to
manufacture the ARTI-64™ media for their filtration units. The company will provide an abundant
supply of inserts for each of the water filtration units with the patented arsenic and bacterial removal

HydroFlo Files Extension for Filing of Annual Report to Allow for New Asset Valuation in Wake of $42 Million MARTI Agreement
Friday September 30, 8:30 am ET

RALEIGH, NC--(MARKET WIRE)--Sep 30, 2005 -- HydroFlo, Inc. (OTC BB:HYRF.OB - News) CEO Dennis Mast today issued a comment regarding the Company`s Notice of a Late Filing of Form 10-K filed on September 28, 2005. As a result of the recent two-year $42 million agreement that portfolio company Metals & Arsenic Removal Technology, Inc. (MARTI) received from a Chinese distribution company, HydroFlo`s Board of Directors believes that the Company should seek a new independent valuation of the Company`s portfolio assets.

"An agreement of this magnitude, which we have valued at over $210 million over the next two years, is so significant that the Board feels that an independent valuation of our portfolio assets is in order before our Annual Report is filed," stated Mr. Mast. "While it is clear that the contract will significantly increase the value of MARTI, the Board would like an independent verification before we calculate how much our per share net asset value has grown."

"The Notice of a Late Filing gives the Company an additional 15 days to submit the 10-K without consequence, and we expect to have the valuation completed in time to include in this Annual Report," added Mr. Mast.

      Arsenic removal process promising

Professor K.J. Reddy’s break-through method of removing arsenic from drinking water is having world-wide ramifications.

Reddy, of the Department of Renewable Resources, says he discovered the process by accident while trying to remove selenium from drinking water. He found that laboratory-produced ARTI-64 particles can remove arsenic to below detectable levels. From that accidental discovery, a licensing agreement resulted between the university and Metal Arsenic Removal Technologies Inc.

Now, four major companies are marketing the product world-wide. “I want to acknowledge my students for their contributions and my colleagues,” he says. “There is a constant encouragement from my colleagues to go on to the next level.” Long-term exposure to arsenic in drinking water causes cancer of the skin, lungs, urinary, bladder,
and kidney, and other skin changes such as pigmentation and thickening, according to the U.S. National Research Council. The council recommended to the Environmental Protection Agency to lower current allowable arsenic levels
for drinking water from 50 micrograms per liter to 10
micrograms per liter. This will be effective January 2006.

Reddy says he had not been aware of the magnitude
of the problem of arsenic in drinking water. “People used to think arsenic was only a problem in Southeast Asia,” he says. “Then the entire U.S. was surveyed along with global arsenic concerns. It showed arsenic was not just a problem in Southeast Asia but all over. The discovery has societal, world-wide implications.” The magnitude of the invention surprises Reddy, who says he had spent seven years working on the selenium removal process and knew little about arsenic and its devastating health problems.
“I’ve learned quite a bit in the last two years from the research. I’m not an expert in arsenic. I work in trace metals. But I am learning. I love to take this into the classroom and show the students that ‘don’t think everybody knows everything about something.’ Now, I know more about arsenic, but I’m still in the process of learning more about it.” The novelty of the invention is its simplicity, he says. The simple, cost-effective method will enable utilization by poorly developed countries. “People
are dying from drinking arsenic-rich groundwater and need a simple, effective, inexpensive method to remove arsenic,” he says. The process is now featured on the United Nations Environment Programme.
The research also complements his work with natural minerals and the way metal oxides cycle trace metals in nature. Reddy says having scientists
and other researchers test the results is satisfying as is knowing one has created something that may benefit society.

“My wife died of cancer. I know the problem at the human level,” says Reddy. “If it can save even one life – fine. That will be satisfying.”

      Trinkwasser tötet 5 Millionen Menschen

      taz, 24.8.2005

(DO)

      2. Gesundheitliche Wirkungen von Wasserschadstoffen

      2.0 Blei

HydroFlo says its HDAF unit has been tested and compared side-by-side to a leading market competitor at a national poultry processing facility. While the competitor’s unit utilizes high volumes and high pressures to create flow, the HDAF improved upon these conventional DAF systems by creating a pump that requires less horsepower, greater operation, and better process efficiencies, the company says. HydroFlo’s high-density micro-bubble aeration device is coupled with a lower horsepower pump to reduce costs while maximizing solids removal, and revolutionizes the DAF process.

HydroFlo Water Treatment Begins OEM Sales of HDAF Units
      July 5, 2005

HydroFlo Water Treatment, Inc. (HWTI), a portfolio company of HydroFlo, Inc., has begun the sales of its new HydroFlo Dissolved Air Flotation (HDAF) unit to an undisclosed DAF manufacturer. The first system will be manufactured for retrofitting into an existing application in California. The HDAF unit has been proven to provide comparable removal efficiencies using a fraction of the recycled water normally required in DAF operations, thus allowing for lower horsepower costs per gallon treated.

The Blackout of 2003 and the failure of our “3rd world country” power grid may have shed some light on another challenge facing this country. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), our nation`s water grid and waste water infrastructure is deteriorating due to gross under investment over the past few decades. One of the few companies with proven technology designed to address both the economic and environmental aspects of rebuilding the water grid is called HydroFlo.

An Innovative Approach To Updating America’s Water Grid
      http://www.tvaproductions.com/pdf/PL1435.pdf

      (TVA)—The Blackout of 2003
and the failure of the power grid
may have shed some light on
      another challenge facing this nation.
      The power grid failure came
without warning and cost the public
      billions of dollars. Even more
disturbing is the fact that America’s
      infrastructure problems don’t
      end with the power grid.
      The country’s water system—
much of it installed 100 years
      ago—is crumbling, too.

      Broken pipes flood subways,
      sewage systems overflow during
      rainstorms, in turn contaminating
      rivers, lakes and underground
      drinking-water supplies.
      And thanks to ancient treatment
      plants, pesticide runoff, and
      the thoughtless dumping of home
      chemicals down storm sewers, our
home tap water is murkier than
      we’d like to believe, too.
      The Environmental Protection
      Agency, or EPA, estimates that
taxpayers will need to spend at
least $500 billion over the next 20
years to repair the water grid in
      America. That breaks down to
      $250 billion to replace pipes,
      tanks, valves and treatment
      plants in the water infrastructure,
and $250 billion more to upgrade
      the sewage system. Waste water
      treatment technology is also
reported to have become a major
      EPA concern.

      There are two major considerations
that need to be addressed as
      the massive reconstruction of the
      U.S. water grid gets underway.
      Cost is certainly the overriding
      issue, but the environment figures
heavily into the picture as well.
Experts say that we can expect
      municipal water companies to
begin raising their rates to pay for
      reconstructing the water grid.
One of the few companies with
      proven technology designed to
      address both the economic and
      environmental aspects of rebuilding
      the water grid is called
      HydroFlo.
      This Raleigh, North Carolinabased
      firm has developed a patented
      aeration technology that
      increases the capacity of existing
      wastewater treatment plants, and
eliminates the use of chemicals for
      odor and corrosion control using
      the pipeline infrastructure already
      in place.
      The treatment process is described
as natural and is said to
      not damage the environment
      because no chemicals are involved
      in the treatment.

      For hundreds of years, man
has known that oxygen was necessary
      to help eliminate harmful
      bacteria and noxious odors from
      wastewater. However, since water
      is rather resistant to oxygen
      absorption under normal circumstances,
      innovative methods of
      infusing oxygen into water needed
      to be developed.
      In its broadest sense, aeration
is the process by which oxygen
from the surrounding air or an
      oxygen supply is dissolved into
the water, either by natural methods
      or mechanical devices.
      The general idea behind aeration
is to bring the water into intimate
      contact with the air, by
      being discharged directly into free
air, or the air being forced into a
      body of water.
      Without oxygen, hydrogen sulfide
      gases rapidly form in the
      wastewater, emitting foul odors
      and hastening pipeline corrosion.
      Historically, the aeration process
has been attempted by novel systems
      utilizing gravity, agitation,
      special membranes, and forced air
      induction.
      HydroFlo’s patented treatment
process works on the premise that
wastewater needs to be infused in
a way so as to eliminate the
potential for air locks or pump
      cavitation at either a pre-treatment
      stage, or at the wastewater
      basin stage.
      For more information about
      HydroFlo’s aeration technology,
or how its process is able to
      improve the current status of
      America’s water grid structure,

A Novel Method to Remove Arsenate and Arsenite from Water
      K. J. Reddy1 and Viswatej Attili1
Published in Proceedings of 8th International Conference on Biogeochemistry of Trace Elements, April 3-7, 2005, Symposium on Arsenic in the Environment: Biology and Chemistry, Adelaide, Australia
1Department of Renewable Resources, P.O. 3354, University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY 82071, USA (katta@uwyo.edu)
      INTRODUCTION
The groundwater pollution caused by arsenic in a number of Asian countries has led to a major environmental crisis. Some recent estimates indicate that more than 35 million people in West Bengal (India) and Bangladesh are potentially at risk from drinking arsenic-contaminated water (Rahman, et al., 2001). Studies have reported that long-term exposure to arsenic in drinking water in excess of 0.05 mg/L causes increased risk of skin, lung, bladder, and kidney cancer. It also leads to other skin-related problems such hyperkeratosis and changes in pigmentation. Consumption of arsenic also leads to disturbance of the cardiovascular and nervous system functions and can eventually lead to death (WHO, 1999). Awareness about the pollution of drinking water with arsenic and the significance of the crisis have increased significantly during the 1990’s due to accidental poisoning of several millions of people in south east Asia. It is now recognized that dealing with arsenic contamination in groundwater is a problem of global dimensions. Removal of arsenic species from water is complicated by the pH and other ions commonly found in water (e.g., sulfate and phosphate). The objective of this study was to evaluate effectiveness of ARTI-64 (proprietary material) developed in our Water Quality Laboratory, in removal of arsenic species from water.
      METHODS
Fifty ml of different concentrations of arsenate and arsenite were reacted with different amounts (0.1-0.5grams) of ARTI-64 for 30 minutes. Samples were filtered with 0.45 micron filters and clear filtrates were analyzed for total arsenic using ICP Mass Spectrometry (analytical detection limit for arsenic is 0.1 μg/L). Additionally, natural water samples containing different competing ions were tested with ARTI-64 without adjusting the pH.
      RESULTS
Effect of different amounts of ARTI-64 in removal of arsenate and arsenite from solutions is shown in Table 1. Even 0.1 grams of ARTI-64 was able to remove most of the arsenate and arsenite from solutions with in 30minutes. Results from the effect of 0.5 grams of ARTI-64 in removal of spiked arsenate and arsenite from natural waters are shown in Table 2. Since water samples we tested had low levels of dissolved arsenic (less than 10 μg/L), we spiked the samples with approximately 130 μg/L of arsenate and arsenite. These data suggest the ARTI-64 removed most of the arsenate and arsenite from samples. In some cases, it removed arsenic to below detection limit of 0.1 μg/L. It is also evident that high concentrations of sulfate did not affect the adsorption of arsenate and
arsenite by the ARTI-64. These results suggest that sulfate showed very little or no interference in adsorption of arsenic species by ARTI-64.
Table 1. Effect of different amounts of ARTI-64 in removal of arsenate and arsenite from solutions
      Concentrations remained after the reaction

      CONCLUSIONS
The ARTI-64 was very effective in removing both arsenic species from the water. It can purge highly poisonous arsenic species from water to less than 10 μg/L. These results are remarkable. This process is simple and rapid and does not require the pH adjustments. In addition, this process is not affected by the presence of most other components found in water and produces no harmful byproducts. This scientific advancement has great potential to address very serious health and environmental problems and significantly improve the health of many people by improving the quality of water upon which they rely.

Potenzial ist aus meiner Sicht rießig!!

      und darum gehts:

Safety Scan Technology Inc. (SSTI) provides technology that can be used to noninvasively detect and inspect contents located inside sealed containers in a static or continuous flow state. This revolutionary technology utilizes resonance of high frequency sound waves (Swept Frequency Acoustic Interferometry – SFAI) to detect physical property changes in a water system. This process will offer clients real time notification of changes to pre-determined parameters in their water flow.

Exquisitely sensitive, quick, and easy to use, are only a few of SFAI’s technical advantages. The demonstrated ability of this new technology to operate through metal, glass, ceramic, and plastic barriers provides unprecedented flexibility of application. These benefits make SFAI ideally suited to play a critical role in the Total Quality Management arena where changes from an established norm or baseline must be monitored.

With the increasing need to depend on a verifiably clean water system, Safety Scan Technology is the company bringing contamination detection into the 21st century. The rights for this patented technology were acquired in a licensing agreement from the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

NASA OUTREACH PROGRAM HELPS COMPANY MOVE AHEAD WITH COMPACT DETECTION DEVICE
      Orlando -

TITUSVILLE – By streamlining the development of a revolutionary technology, a more compact scanner to detect and analyze contaminants in water systems is one step closer to reality, thanks to assistance from the NASA-funded Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP). SATOP is operated by the Technological Research and Development Authority (TRDA).

Safety Scan Technology, a HydroFlo Inc. (OTCBB: HYRF) portfolio company in Raleigh, N.C., is developing for the commercial market technology that was originally created by Dr. Dipen N. Sinha with Los Alamos National Laboratories (LANL).

Known as Swept Frequency Acoustic Interferometry (SFAI), the technology utilizes high frequency sound waves to analyze and detect pre-programmed contaminants in water systems through metal, glass, ceramic and plastic barriers. SFAI has been in use for seven years by the federal government as well as for internal purposes at LANL.

"This technology will allow our customers the ability to analyze their water supply immediately and without opening the container," said Mike Doss, Safety Scan Technology`s Chief Operating Officer. Potential clients for SFAI and the advanced scanner include desalinization plants, beverage bottling processes, and semiconductor and pharmaceutical manufacturers, which need to verify incoming water purity.

Safety Scan Technology approached SATOP for assistance in consolidating the electronics associated with SFAI into a smaller, potentially hand-held sized unit, in contrast to the bulkier equipment currently in use.

"This new technology is light-years ahead of anything else on the market right now and should revolutionize the way water is controlled and analyzed," said Christophe Gilfriche, SATOP Florida senior program engineer. "Safety Scan needed to know how the device could be miniaturized and the best way to do so."

Gilfriche tapped Dan Kovach, a senior scientist specialist at The Boeing Company at Kennedy Space Center, to help Safety Scan. "Dan`s expertise in instrumentation, computer aided design (CAD) and circuit/microprocessor design made him the logical choice for this technical challenge," Gilfriche said.

Kovach reviewed the technology by perusing the related patents and exchanging e-mails with Dr. Sinha and Doss. Once he had a thorough grasp of the concept, he was able to identify circuit configurations that could be implemented, confirm that the device could indeed be miniaturized, and provide suggestions on how to achieve the miniaturization.

"My research concluded that the SFAI device can be miniaturized to the size of a commercially available handheld device using commercially available components," Kovach said.

In addition, Kovach suggested re-arranging the components and provided a list of options for consideration, such as a wireless system or separate monitor. He also advised that Safety Scan Technology avoid components that contain lead due to potential bans on such components in various markets throughout the world. Lastly, Kovach provided suggestions for alternative methods for design and different graphical display options.

"Dan`s advice will help us bring our product to the prototype stage faster and we will be able to move more quickly to make the device smaller," Doss said. Development of a working prototype is under way, and once completed the company will perform extensive field testing.
"We were looking for guidance about our micro circuitry, with the goal of saving a step or two in development down the road," Doss said. "We certainly received that and more from Dan, not to mention the opportunity to be associated with a great program like SATOP."

      ANALYST SUMMARY
As the covering analyst for over one-year, HYRF is now being resumed with Wasserman Morris. We reiterate the Speculative BUY rating on HYRF, but revise upward our price target to $2.10 following the developments concerning significant revenue potential derived from the recently signed agreement with Essentially Yours Industries, Inc. and China Electronics Import and South China Export Corporation.

The above-mentioned agreement is likely to provide HYRF with roughly $210 million in revenues for the next two years from the sale of water filters and pitchers in the Chinese market. Moreover, the collaboration with Essentially Yours Industries, Inc. could also bring HYRF up to $7.5 million in revenues from the sale of water filters, pitchers and FATS units in the U.S. and Canada markets during the next twelve months.

In addition, HYRF is actively involved in the restoration of basic sanitary living conditions in the hurricane-ravaged regions of Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana. We expect HYRF’s management to secure a portion of the $100 billion that are being made available for disaster relief, potentially expanding its revenue-generating base.

In order to sustain such impressive achievements, HYRF has shifted the water filters and pitchers production to China to obtain significant savings from production and logistics; established two other portfolio companies; enhanced its management team with additional executives, including a former manager from Nalco; and, moved its corporate offices to North Carolina.

The aforementioned developments significantly increased the fair value of HYRF’s assets. Based on our conservative estimates, the investment portfolio value has doubled during the last 6 month. As a result, we have revised upward our price target to $2.10/share.

However, investment in HYRF’s stock remains highly speculative due to the following reasons:
      (1) Essentially Yours Industries, Inc. – is a distributor in the China deal – is a development stage company, has a limited operating history and a narrow experience in managing million-dollar agreements;
      (2) HYRF has failed to file timely with SEC the FY05 annual report due to the fact that the company has not obtained yet an independent valuation of its portfolio companies.

      Anmerkung zu dem Researchbericht:

      Wassermann geht im Fiskaljahr 2006 (1.7.05 - 30.06.06) von
8 Mio. zusätzlichen Aktien also rund 45 Mio. aus.

As a result, we expect HYRF to report:
      - net unrealized gain on investments of about $15.7 million for FY06;
      - diluted EPS for FY06 of $0.32;
      - net assets value per share by the end of FY06 to exceed $0.45.

For the sake of a conservative approach, we have assumed the number of shares to increase during FY06 by 8 million.

Of the watery soup that has engulfed New Orleans, Johnson said: “This water is very unsafe. It’s a health hazard.”
The first set of samples tested show it has a level of sewage-related bacteria that is at least 10 times higher than acceptable, as well as a surprising amount of lead. Louisiana officials believe it is laced with an assortment of heavy metals, pesticides and toxic chemicals .

      Industrial areas not tested yet
Johnston said the EPA is testing for more than 100 chemicals from heavy metals, pesticides, industrial chemicals and PCBs and expects a more definitive word on the makeup of the hazardous brew in the coming days, possibly as early as this weekend.

So far, the EPA tests have been focused in residential areas and in the French Quarter, not the industrial areas where the floodwaters are likely to be more heavily laced with toxic substances, said Johnson.

“We don’t know where the lead came from,” said Johnson. “The samples that were taken were not near any industrial area.” But he noted the city was full of old homes with lead paint and asbestos, which is probably also in the water.

Johnson said the EPA will also examine sediment for lead and other contaminants. If it is also contaminated, the cleanup could include removal of tons of soil and sediment.

“This is a huge area that encompasses three states,” Johnson said. “Given the magnitude of this disaster we at this point can’t say what the magnitude of the environmental challenges will be.”

Johnson said the EPA is also taking air samples and using sophisticated detection systems to determine whether there might have been radiological releases from hospitals or university research facilities. So far no evidence of such releases has been found, he said.

      Lake also saltier
The 630-square-mile Lake Pontchartrain formed some 5,000 years ago by the meandering Mississippi River. Many scientists believe it will survive the latest onslaught, although the effects may linger for decades.

Along with the toxic chemicals and sewage, the lake has become saltier. The hurricane poured waves of saltwater into the lake and the recovery effort will increase the salinity even more. Environmentalists worry that could harm the lake’s cypress swamps.

This summer an unusually large number of manatees, an endangered species, were spotted on the lake, according to the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation. Well before the hurricane hit, the group urged visitors to its Web site to look out for the mammals, saying we “want their visit to be safe.”

      Removing arsenic from water

A METHOD that may someday save lives and benefit the environment has been invented by a researcher. It is a way to remove arsenic from water.

Associate Professor K. J. Reddy of the Department of Renewable Resources of the University of Wyoming has discovered that laboratory-produced cupric oxide particles can purge highly poisonous arsenic species from contaminated water to a level far below that mandated by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards that take effect from January 23, 2006.

Reddy`s work has resulted in a licensing agreement between the university and Arsenic Removal Technologies, Inc. (ARTI) to commercialise the process, which is already being pursued by several other water companies.

      Three years of research

The UW faculty member says his coup came after three years of research. Reddy`s technique also eliminates the more lethal arsenite from water while other techniques have been able to remove only the less toxic arsenate species.

``There have been processes proposed that work, but they have been very cumbersome and time consuming,`` Reddy reports. ``Our procedure is very simple, rapid and effective. ``

About 15 months ago while actually investigating ways to remove selenium from water Reddy developed the filtering procedure in his water quality laboratory.

``To be positive, we confirmed and reconfirmed the findings by doing continual testing to make sure we had enough information,`` he says.
UW graduate student Viswatej Attili of Hyderabad, India, has been assisting the College of Agriculture associate professor. Water samples collected from natural sites in Wyoming and Montana and from coal-bed methane production areas and water spiked with arsenic were experimented with by the two.

Recent studies suggest that high concentrations of arsenic in drinking water are found in the United States and throughout the world, according to Reddy.

      Effects of exposure

Long-time exposure to the toxin by humans has been linked to skin, lung, bladder and kidney cancer and can also lead to fatal cardiovascular and nervous system breakdowns.

Most arsenic enters water supplies either from natural deposits in the earth`s crust or from industrial pollution according to the National Research Council. It is also a by-product of copper smelting, mining and coal burning. High-ranking concentrations may be present in some foods as plants absorb arsenic fairly easily. Contaminated organisms consumed by fish can lead to the deaths of birds feeding on freshwater animals.

Professor Tom Thurow, head of the renewable resources department, says Reddy`s research ``is an example of creativity and hard work that has resulted in the development of an elegant, practical procedure that can be used to address a very serious environmental problem. ``

In U.S., the new EPA standards designed to protect consumers against the effects of long-term, chronic exposure to arsenic in drinking water calls for the reduction of the element in public water systems from 50 to 10 micrograms per litre and for increased monitoring of water sources. ARTI, which recently was acquired by HydroFlo, Inc., of Raleigh, North Carolina, holds a worldwide exclusive license to Reddy`s process. ``The technology produces no harmful by-products, and removal does not require altering the pH of inflow water,`` according to an ARTI spokesman.

``In addition, this method is not affected by the presence of most other compounds found in water such as sulphates.``

      Arsenic contamination in Barisal alarming
      By BSS, Barisal
      Thu, 6 Oct 2005, 12:07:00

The arsenic contamination in groundwater was found 100 times above the permissible level in an upazila of the district that lost 13 lives in five years.

All the tubewells of Babuganj upazila contain high level of arsenic contamination, some with 5.00 parts per litre (ppm) against the tolerable level of 0.05 ppm, after screening of the shallow tubewells in 2000, sources of an NGO said here on Thursday.

The NGO Forum for Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation, which has been promoting alternative drinking water options in arsenic affected areas, said a number of people have died after 2000 and 500 more have become arsenic patients.

"The gravity of arsenic in Babuganj prompted the NGO forum to intervene in the areas in 2001 and motivate people to start drinking surface water instead of tubewell waters," Saha Dipak Kumar, advocacy officer of the NGO forum, told a group of visiting journalists on Thursday.

Dipak said the forum with its partner organisations have implemented a five-year programme that made people aware about impact of arsenic contamination and motivated them to drink water from alternative sources such as rain water instead of tubewell waters.

The people of Babuganj are now hundred percent aware about the safer sources of drinking water, but they still prefer underground water pumped through expensive deep tubewell, said NGO forum`s regional manager Awlad Hossain.

He said the people have a demand of 6,000 deep tubules, but the area has now only 1,500. The forum has helped villagers to set up deep tubewells at a cost between Taka 37,000 to 45,000. The forum gave 80 percent of the money.

A number of alternative options like rainwater harvesting system (RWHS) and pond sand filter (PSF) at family and community levels have also been installed in the areas, but these are inadequate compared to the huge demand, Awlad said.
Arsenic, a chemical contamination in groundwater, has so far claimed 4,000 lives and made over 10,000 people arsenicosis patients since its first detection in 1993. The problem has gripped many parts of 61 out of 64 districts in the country.

Katrina floodwaters not as toxic to humans as previously thought, study says

The floodwaters that inundated New Orleans immediately following Hurricane Katrina were similar in content to the city’s normal storm water and were not as toxic as previously thought, according to a study by researchers at Louisiana State University. Their study, the first peer-reviewed scientific assessment of the water quality of the Katrina floodwaters, is good news for those who’ve been exposed directly to the floodwaters, the scientists say.

But the LSU researchers caution that the same floodwaters that were pumped back into Lake Pontchartrain contain high levels of some toxic metals, especially copper and zinc, and could pose a long-term danger to the area’s aquatic life, which are more sensitive to the metals than humans. Their findings will appear in the Oct. 11 online issue of the American Chemical Society’s journal Environmental Science & Technology.

"What we had in New Orleans was basically a year’s worth of storm water flowing through the city in only a few days," says study leader John Pardue, Ph.D., an environmental engineer and director of the Louisiana Water Resources Research Institute at LSU in Baton Rouge. "We still don’t think the floodwaters were safe, but it could have been a lot worse. It was not the chemical catastrophe some had expected."

Some experts had predicted that the floodwaters from Katrina could potentially destroy chemical plants and refineries in the area, releasing a deadly brew containing toxic levels of benzene, hydrochloric acid and chlorine. Instead, high levels of bacteria and viruses were the biggest human threat, not exposure to chemicals, Pardue and his associates say.

The researchers obtained 38 floodwater samples from widespread sections of New Orleans, primarily in the area of the city known as the "East Bank," where the main human contact with the floodwaters occurred. The samples, which included both surface waters and bottom samples, were taken within five to nine days after flooding occurred. Additional samples were also obtained from the 17th Street drainage canal, after pumping of the floodwater began, to evaluate the flood’s impact on Lake Pontchartrain, the receiving body for the pumped floodwaters.

The researchers found high levels of bacteria , most likely from fecal contamination resulting from sewage. Levels were within the range of typical storm-water runoff in the city, the scientists say. They also detected high levels of lead, arsenic and chromium and noted that levels of these toxic metals were also similar to those typically found in the area’s stormwater. In general, these particular findings were similar to those obtained by the Environmental Protection Agency in their initial assessment of the floodwaters, the researchers say.

Gasoline was also a significant component of the floodwaters, as measured by elevated levels of three of its components: benzene, toluene and ethylbenzene. These compounds were somewhat elevated in comparison to typical stormwater runoff, the researchers say. The chemicals most likely came from cars and storage tanks submerged in the floodwaters, they add.

Compounds found in common household chemicals were also detected in the floodwaters, Pardue says. The waters contained chemical compounds from aerosol paints, insecticides, caulking compounds, rubber adhesives and other common substances, they say, but at levels that typically do not create concern for human health.

If the floodwaters had occurred in another location near more industrial sites in the city and if the wind damage or water surge had been more severe, then the resultant floodwaters could have been a more serious toxic threat, Pardue says. "Instead, the city filled slowly, like a bathtub, and the water velocities and forces on the buildings, including chemical storage facilities, were relatively benign," he says. The large volume of floodwater also diluted the potency of many of the chemicals, he adds.

While serious toxicity to human life was largely avoided, the floodwater may pose a chemical risk to aquatic life in the area, Pardue says. He believes that low oxygen levels in the water that is being pumped back into Lake Pontchartrain could result in fish kills. He also says that heavy metals being discharged into the lake, particularly copper and zinc, can be toxic to fish and other marine life and may bioaccumulate and contaminate seafood collected from the region. More studies are needed to assess the long-term impact of the flood on aquatic life, Pardue says.

Funding for this study was provided by the Louisiana Water Resources Research Institute and the LSU Center for the Study of Public Health Impacts of Hurricanes.

The American Chemical Society is a nonprofit organization, chartered by the U.S. Congress, with a multidisciplinary membership of more than 158,000 chemists and chemical engineers. It publishes numerous scientific journals and databases, convenes major research conferences and provides educational, science policy and career programs in chemistry. Newport City Seeks Bond For Arsenic Removal

      BY ROBIN SMITH, Staff Writer
      Wednesday October 12, 2005

NEWPORT CITY -- Voters are being asked to approve a $3.3 million bond to remove arsenic from the city`s water supply.

Water ratepayers would see their bills nearly double within three years, if the bond is approved on Oct. 18, city officials said this week.

The city must remove half the arsenic found in the city`s artesian well water, under stricter regulations by the state of Vermont and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

"Either we do it," City Manager John Ward Jr. said, "or they will make us do it."

The current water rate for typical residential users is $146.74 per year, according to information provided Monday to residents by Ward and Joseph Duncan, engineers with Forcier Aldrich & Associates Inc.

The proposed rate would steadily climb over the next three years by a total of 82 percent. The rate in 2007-2008 would be $267, an increase of $120 a year, according to information supplied by the city.

Resident John Hall, a former legislator, said he knows people who can`t afford the increase.

"People are going to be flabbergasted," he said.

Hall asked what would happen if a resident could not pay his or her water bill.

"If a person truly can`t pay, maybe they should ask for help," Ward said.

The city will receive a 20-year loan at 3 percent interest from the state, funded by the EPA. The annual loan payment would be $221,000.

The $3.3 million project would reduce the arsenic in the city water to 10 parts per billion, the new federal limit, from 20 ppb, according to a written description of the proposed water project.
The federal standard for arsenic had been 50 ppb for decades, according to a Vermont Department of Health newsletter.

The city has until and no later than Dec. 31, 2006, to reduce arsenic levels.

Arsenic is a naturally occurring element found in some rocks and soils in Vermont, other parts of the Northeast and in Western states, according to the state.

Health effects from drinking water that contains arsenic depend on how long the arsenic has been ingested and how much, the health department reports.

"Ingestion of arsenic over a long period of time has been linked to an increased lifetime risk of getting bladder, lung or skin cancer. Research is also ongoing on arsenic`s links to skin and cardiovascular diseases, diabetes or other cancers," the state says.

City Councilor Richard "Dick" Baraw said a friend who died recently of an apparently unrelated disease was diagnosed with excessive arsenic in his system and had some symptoms related to arsenic.

"And I have the same symptoms and I can tell you it`s not pleasant," Baraw said.

Baraw said he has not yet been diagnosed but will have his arsenic level checked.

"We want to make sure the water is clean and healthy," Baraw said.

The project would include a building at the Coventry Road well site for the equipment, a new pumping station, roadway access, and perimeter chain-link fence around the existing well, the new well and the new building.

The city must hire another person to manage the equipment, increasing water and sewer staff to four, Ward said. That cost was approved in March, he said.

The new equipment will also remove some manganese from the city`s water.

The annual rate increase also includes the already approved bond payments to construct the new well, Ward said.

Despite the proposed increases, Ward said the city`s water rates are still inexpensive compared to other communities in Vermont. As a result, the city could not gain a grant to ease the impact of higher rates, he said.

The city has not invested in infrastructure over the years, keeping the rates low, Ward said. He noted that the city did long-overdue repairs and painting to the city`s water tower.

"These improvements made to the water system have been absolutely necessary," Ward said at an information meeting with a few residents Monday evening.

"What if it doesn`t pass?" asked city zoning board member Jim Privet.

"We will put it up again," Ward said. If the city does not comply with the regulations, it could face penalties, he said.

Alternatives like building a surface water treatment facility are more expensive, at $8 million, than removing the arsenic, Ward said.

If city voters reject repeated bond requests, the state would try to help, said Jean Nicolai, in charge of water supply regulation compliance in the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation.

The state has the ability to enforce regulations, but would not come in and do the repairs and then bill the city, Nicolai said.

"The whole purpose of enforcement is to protect public health. We would like to work with the city," she aid.

The new arsenic regulation is estimated to affect 5 percent of the water users in the United States, at about 11 million people, according to the Northeast Rural Water Association.

The bond vote is Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the municipal building.

Don’t be duped by bottled water

By Patricia Lynn / Director, Corporate Accountability International
      .
In recent trips to my local grocery store, I have become increasingly aware of the volume of bottled water that people in my neighborhood buy. Almost an entire aisle is dedicated to it, and people are buying by the case. The phenomenon is a little odd. Boston’s tap water seems fine to me.

Recently, the head of the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority took the Pepsi challenge. He and a panel of tasters, including a local wine expert and a local beer brewer, did a taste test with Boston water, Pepsi’s Aquafina, and a few other bottled water brands. Not only did the entire panel agree that the five water samples tasted roughly the same, lab tests showed that there were no significant differences between the quality of Pepsi’s bottled water and tap water.

Greater Boston spends 1,364 times the cost of perfectly good public water for Aquafina, despite indistinguishable differences, and Bostonians are not alone. Similar patterns repeat themselves across the United States.

Other scientific studies show bottled water is no safer than public water, and often less safe, sometimes with high concentrations of toxins like arsenic and mercury. Food and Drug Administration rules for bottled water quality are quite poor compared with Environmental Protection Agency rules for tap water. But if bottled water is not necessarily cleaner or safer than public water, why have bottled water sales doubled in the United States over the past decade? And why do one of six people in the United States only drink bottled water?

The industry, led by Pepsi, Nestlé and Coke, is trying to dupe us. Misleading advertising is fueling the explosive growth of this industry. According to the most recent statistics available, in 2002 bottled water corporations spent $93.8 million to portray their products as “pure,” “safe,” “clean,” “healthy” and superior to tap water.

They position bottled water as healthy, when in reality it threatens our health and our ecosystems, costs thousands of times what tap water costs, and undermines local democratic control over a common resource.

Water bottling, is a fast-growing $55 billion a year business. Corporations take water from underground springs and municipal sources without regard to scarcity or human rights, and are setting out to replace our public water with a high-priced, aggressively marketed product.

Increased demand for water worldwide is draining away our rivers, lakes and other fresh water. Today, more than 1 billion people around the world don’t have access to safe water to drink. Each year, more than 1 million children die of diseases caused by unsafe water. And as water scarcity grows, these numbers will rise. By 2025, two-thirds of the world’s people won’t have access to enough water, putting the lives of millions more people at risk.

Corporations view water as one of the great investment opportunities of the 21st century, and increasingly seek to control it. Water is already a $400 billion a year business. That’s 30 percent larger than the pharmaceutical industry. If transnational corporations control our water, they can decide who gets it-and who doesn’t.

Just like air, water is precious and sustains all life on earth. Access to clean, safe water is a fundamental human right. Decisions about a life-giving substance and a fundamental human right must not be left to corporate shareholders unaccountable to the public.

Corporations like Pepsi, Coke and Nestlé are seeking to transform water into a commodity that can be sold for profit to the highest bidder. Instead of buying into this approach, people across the United States should demand that our public water systems are well maintained. Clean, safe, public water is worth fighting for.

      OVERVIEW

The following discussion should be read in conjunction with the financial statements for the period ended June 30, 2005 included with this Form 10-K.

Effective March 4, 2004, we converted to a Business Development Company under the Investment Company Act of 1940. Upon completion of this conversion, we became an internally managed, diversified, closed-end investment company. Prior to the conversion we were an operating company. Those operations were transferred to HydroFlo Water Treatment, Inc., a wholly owned investment of ours. HydroFlo Water Treatment, Inc. is an international provider of wastewater pre-treatment solutions, treating wastewater for industrial and municipal customers. HydroFlo Water Treatment designs, builds, and installs water and wastewater treatment systems and provides a full range of related services to companies and municipalities to treat their wastewater. Since conversion to a Business Development Company, the company has acquired or created three additional portfolio companies: Metals & Arsenic Removal Technology, Inc., Safety Scan Technology, Inc., and Ultra Choice Water, Inc.

Because of our conversion to a Business Development Company ("BDC") the results of operations for the year ended June 30, 2004 are split between the eight-month period from July 1, 2003 through March 3, 2004 (pre conversion) and the four-month period from March 4, 2004 through June 30, 2004 (post conversion which includes a one-time conversion adjustment). The principal differences between these two reporting periods are: (1) we no longer include the operations of our operating ("portfolio") companies in our financial statements, and (2) we now value our ownership of the portfolio companies at fair value.

POST-CONVERSION TO A BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

      PORTFOLIO COMPOSITION

Our primary business is investing in businesses with equity-based investments. The total portfolio value of investments in non-publicly traded securities was approximately $25.1 million at fair value on June 30, 2005, and approximately $2 million at fair value on June 30, 2004.

      OPERATIONS

We generated no operating revenues during the year ended June 30, 2005 and the period March 4, 2004 to June 30, 2004, since our earnings during these periods are based primarily on changes in investment valuations. We incurred approximately $2,593,000 and $589,000 in expenses during the year ended June 30 2005 and the period March 4, 2004 to June 30, 2004. For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2005, these costs represented management fees to an entity controlled by our CEO, rent and other cash expenses associated with operating the BDC and seeking additional investments. During the period March 4, 2004 to June 30, 2004, approximately $497,000 of these expenses were non-cash stock based expenses paid to consultants. The remaining $92,000 represented management fees to an entity controlled by our CEO, rent and other cash expenses associated with operating the BDC and seeking additional investments.

During the year ended June 30, 2005 we incurred $0 in interest expense, earned $3,162 in interest income, and recorded an unrealized gain of $21,477,939 from our portfolio company investments. During the period March 4, 2004 to June 30, 2004, we incurred $2,944 in interest expense and recorded an unrealized gain of $2,592 from our portfolio company investments.

As a result of the foregoing, we booked a net income of approximately $18,887,700 during the fiscal year ended June 30, 2005, and we incurred a net loss of approximately $590,000 for the period March 4, 2004 to June 30, 2004.

PRIOR TO CONVERTING TO A BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

      OPERATING INCOME

Our aggregate revenues were $109,208 for the eight-months ended March 3, 2004. This compares with revenues of $244,243 and $5,001 for the years ended June 30, 2003 and 2002 respectively. These revenue numbers fluctuate, and are not very comparable, due to the fact that we were just beginning to penetrate the market place.

      OPERATING EXPENSES

Employee compensation expenses were $489,335 for the eight-months ended March 3, 2004. This compares with expenses of $907,755 and $606,072 for the years ended June 30, 2003 and 2002 respectively. On an annualized basis, we experienced a 19% decrease in compensation expense in 2004 from 2003. This decrease is the result of a reduction in staff costs associated with lower than expected sales during 2004.

Management fee (related-party) expenses were $32,200 for the eight-months ended March 3, 2004. Annualized, this is comparable with expenses of $55,200 and $55,200 for the years ended June 30, 2003 and 2002 respectively.

Research and development expenses were $7,018 for the eight-months ended March 3, 2004. This compares similarly with expenses of $5,988 and $15,658 for the years ended June 30, 2003 and 2002 respectively

Other General and Administrative expenses were $839,415 for the eight-months ended March 3, 2004. This compares with expenses of $393,581 and $250,219 for the years ended June 30, 2003 and 2002 respectively. On an annualized basis, we experienced a 220% increase in 2004 from 2003. This increase is the result of increased marketing efforts and the use of non-cash stock based compensation.

      OTHER INCOME/EXPENSES

Interest income was $0 for the eight-months ended March 3, 2004. This compares with income of $5,025 and $730 for the years ended June 30, 2003 and 2002, respectively. This decrease in 2004 is the result of our not having significant amounts of cash on hand, while during 2003 we were raising cash to assist in our business development.

      NET LOSS

As a result of the foregoing, we incurred a loss of $1,297,848 for the eight-months ended March 3, 2004 compared to losses of $1,153,876 and $924,504 for the years ended June 30, 2003 and 2002, respectively.

FINANCIAL CONDITION, LIQUIDITY AND CAPITAL RESOURCES

At June 30, 2005 and June 30, 2004, we had $2,557 and $406,762, respectively, in cash and cash equivalents. Our objective is to maintain a low cash balance, while keeping sufficient cash on hand to cover current funding requirements and operations.

During the three months ended September 30, 2005 we received approximately $1,100,000 from the sale of our stock and had approximately $390,000 cash on hand as of September 30, 2005. For the remainder of the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006, we expect our cash on hand and cash generated from operations to be adequate to meet our cash needs, including additional advances to the companies we invest in. Management`s plans regarding continued operation include the possibility of raising additional equity capital via the sale of stock which can now be accomplished due to the filing as a Business Development Company. Management believes it will be able to raise any additional capital it may need, and in fact there are unused equity commitments in place totaling $9,775,000; however, there can be no assurance that the Company will be successful in any such efforts or that any such financing will be on terms favorable or acceptable to the Company. Aggressive sales efforts in our portfolio companies will likely increase sales of product by the subsidiaries in the coming year and may result in less funding we need to provide to them or may even result in a cash return on our investment.

During the year ended June 30, 2005, the Company has not engaged in:

      o Material off-balance sheet activities, including the use of structured finance or special purpose entities;
o Trading activities in non-exchange traded contracts; or
o Transactions with persons or entities that benefit from their non-independent relationship with the Company.

      CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS

Our contractual obligations as of June 30, 2005 are:

      Payments Due by Period

      Less than
Contractual Obligations Total 1 year 1-3 years 4-5 years After 5 years

      Other Obligations $283,757 $44,552 $111,232 $117,951 $10,021

      PRIVATE PORTFOLIO COMPANY INVESTMENTS

and the cost and fair value of such securities at June 30, 2005:

      Approximate
Name of Company Nature of its Principal Business Cost Fair Value

HydroFlo Water Treatment, Inc. Waste water treatment solutions $ 2,415,476 $ 1,415,000

Technology, Inc. Arsenic removal technology 695,741 23,004,000

Safety Scan Technology, Inc. High frequency scanning 734,013 734,013

Ultra Choice Water, Inc. Tankless water coolers 187 187

Valuations for HydroFlo Water Treatment, Inc. and Metals & Arsenic Removal Technology, Inc. were established with the assistance of an independent valuation specialist. Valuations for Safety Scan Technology, Inc. and Ultra Choice Water, Inc. were based on costs invested, since both companies are still in the development stage.

      RECENT DEVELOPMENTS

On July 15, 2005, the Company formed a portfolio company, Advanced Water Recycle, Inc., to combine resources from each of the Company`s current portfolio companies to provide customers with water recycling and reuse. On September 13,

2005, the Company received a second subpoena from the SEC regarding a non-public, fact-finding inquiry into activities of other entities not managed by HydroFlo, Inc. The company has complied with the subpoena.

      CRITICAL ACCOUNTING POLICIES

The financial statements are based on the selection and application of significant accounting policies, which require management to make significant estimates and assumptions.

      VALUATION OF INVESTMENTS

At June 30, 2005, our total assets represented investments recorded at fair value. Value, as defined in Section 2(a)(41) of the 1940 Act, is (i) the market price for those securities for which a market quotation is readily available and
(ii) for all other securities and assets, fair value is as determined in good faith by the board of directors. Since there is typically no readily ascertainable market value for the investments in our portfolio, we value substantially all of our investments at fair value as determined in good faith by the board of directors pursuant to a valuation policy and a consistent valuation process. Because of the inherent uncertainty of determining the fair value of investments that do not have a readily ascertainable market value, the fair value of our investments determined in good faith by the board of directors may differ significantly from the values that would have been used had a ready market existed for the investments, and the differences could be material.

There is no single standard for determining fair value in good faith. As a result, determining fair value requires that judgment be applied to the specific facts and circumstances of each portfolio investment. Unlike banks, we are not permitted to provide a general reserve for anticipated loan losses. Instead, we must determine the fair value of each individual investment on a quarterly basis. We will record unrealized depreciation on investments when we believe that an investment has become impaired, including where collection of a loan or realization of an equity security is doubtful. Conversely, we will record unrealized appreciation if we believe that the underlying portfolio company has appreciated in value and, therefore, our investment has also appreciated in value, where appropriate.

As a business development company, we invest primarily in illiquid equity securities of private companies. The structure of each equity security is specifically negotiated to enable us to protect our investment and maximize our returns. Our investments generally have no established trading market. Because of the type of investments that we make and the nature of our business, our valuation process requires an analysis of various factors. Our fair value methodology includes the examination of, among other things, the underlying investment performance, financial condition and market changing events that impact valuation. For June 30, 2005 and June 30, 2004, we used an independent valuation specialist to assist us in our good faith estimate of the fair value of our investments.

      VALUATION OF EQUITY SECURITIES

With respect to private equity securities, each investment is valued using industry valuation benchmarks, and then the value is assigned a discount reflecting the illiquid nature of the investment, as well as our minority, non-control position. When an external event such as a purchase transaction, public offering, or subsequent equity sale occurs, the pricing indicated by the external event will be used to corroborate our private equity valuation.

      NEW ACCOUNTING PRONOUNCEMENTS

We have reviewed all new accounting pronouncements issued through June 2005 and have determined that none of them would have a material impact on our financial position or results of operations.

      Revised September 2005
Cupful by cupful, the people of Bangladesh and other developing countries are being poisoned by their drinking water from tube-wells. Tens of millions of Bangladeshis—as much as a quarter of the total population—use tube wells that provide water containing 10 to 50 times the amount of arsenic considered safe. It is unclear how many tube-wells there are in Bangladesh, but since 1998, an additional four million have been installed.

To help solve this massive public health problem, the National Academy of Engineering with the generous support of the Grainger Foundation, is offering Grainger Challenge Prizes of $1,000,000, $200,000, and $100,000 for first, second, and third place for the design and creation of a workable, sustainable, economical, point-of-use water treatment system for arsenic-contaminated groundwater in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and other developing countries. Entries can be submitted by individuals or teams from for-profit, nonprofit, government, or private institutions.

The first Grainger Challenge Prize, will be awarded in February, 2007. The contest is now under way and we ask that interested parties register their intention to participate by September 30, 2005 with a brief narrative. The contest is open to U.S. citizens at U.S. organizations.

PHOENIX Large water plants run by metropolitan Phoenix cities are working to meet a new federal requirement to cut arsenic.
The requirement, which begins early next year, will affect rural Arizona harder.

That`s because hundreds of small private water companies in rural areas pump only groundwater, which tends to have more arsenic.

Regulators and industry experts say those firms have less cash to treat water than a big city operation and will be more likely to pass the costs on.

In 2001, the Environmental Protection Agency changed the federal standard for arsenic in water from 50 parts per billion to 10 parts per billion to protect the public against the cancer-causing substance.

PUBLIC WATER SYSTEMS FACE COMPLIANCE DATE FOR NEW FEDERAL STANDARD FOR ARSENIC

HARRISBURG — New federal drinking water standards designed to lower the levels of arsenic in drinking water, take effect Jan. 23, 2006, for Pennsylvania’s public water systems, Environmental Protection Secretary Kathleen A. McGinty said today.

The federal law lowers the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for arsenic from 0.050 milligrams per liter (mg/L), or 50 parts per billion, to 0.010 mg/L, or 10 parts per billion.

“The department has been working aggressively to make sure drinking water suppliers understand the federal requirements and have in place the mechanisms they need to meet the new standard,” McGinty said. “Ensuring a smooth transition will strengthen public confidence in the systems that supply our public drinking water.”

DEP’s outreach efforts have been ongoing for years as the new standards were being developed and finalized.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) adopted the new standard for arsenic in drinking water Jan. 22, 2001. The rule became effective Feb. 22, 2002. The date by which systems must begin complying with the new standard is Jan. 23, 2006. DEP incorporates by reference federal MCLs as state MCLs, making them applicable here.

DEP has been working with community water suppliers and nontransient noncommunity public water suppliers --- those that serve water to at least 25 of the same people for more than six months in a year, but not year round --- to help bring their operations into compliance ahead of the effective date.

The department sent letters to all public water system operators in July informing them of the change, and DEP staff members have been in direct contact with systems identified as having arsenic levels above 0.010 mg/L in past monitoring. According to historical information, about 90 of a total of 3,340 systems (or about 3 percent) have arsenic levels above 0.010 mg/L.

Efforts were made to inform these systems about various grants and other programs available to offset the costs of installing treatment, such as DEP’s Growing Greener grants for innovative technologies and the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Development Authority’s funding, and about EPA’s Arsenic Treatment Technology Research Demonstrations and Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program.

Initial compliance monitoring for arsenic will begin after the Jan. 23 effective date for the new MCL. State regulations require water systems in violation of the MCL to issue public notification and conduct more frequent monitoring as interim measures until treatment is provided to reduce the arsenic levels or a new source is brought on line.

Some studies have linked long-term exposure to high levels of arsenic in drinking water to cancer of the bladder and lungs. Short-term exposure to high doses of arsenic can cause other adverse health effects, but such effects are unlikely to occur from Pennsylvania’s public water supplies that are in compliance with the existing arsenic standard of 0.050 mg/L.

EPA set the current standard of 0.050 mg/L in 1975, based on a Public Health Service standard originally established in 1942. A March 1999 report by the National Academy of Sciences concluded standards should be strengthened further to protect public health.

Arsenic occurs naturally in rocks and soil, water, air, plants and animals. It can be released into the environment through natural activities such as volcanic action, erosion of rocks and forest fires, or through human activities.

For more information on the new rule, visit DEP’s Web site at www.dep.state.pa.us, Keyword: “Drinking Water.”

Water companies work meet new arsenic standards

      The Associated Press

PHOENIX - Water companies across the state are spending millions of dollars to meet new federal arsenic standards before Jan. 23.

The Environmental Protection Agency in 2001 slashed the federal standard for arsenic in water from 50 parts per billion to 10 parts per billion. One part per billion is like a drop of liquid in a swimming pool.

Rural Arizona will be hardest hit by the standards because small private water companies pump only ground water, which tends to have higher arsenic levels. Regulators and industry experts also note that those smaller companies have less money than urban operations and will probably have to pass the cost on to customers.

The new standard becomes effective in January, but the state won`t determine whether the companies` surface water complies until December 2006 and the ground water in December 2007.

"We want to make sure that everyone is on the road to compliance," said Steve Owens, director of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.

To do that, the state is helping small companies, Owens said. Those that don`t comply with the tougher standard could face stiff fines or be shut down.

Larger utilities have also had to wrestle with the requirement. Scottsdale expects to spend $85 million on water system improvements. Phoenix is spending $24 million.

"It`s been a huge financial hit," said Catherine Connolly, executive director of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns.

In some rural communities, water bills will go up substantially.

"I heard if they have to put in more equipment, they will have to raise the bills," said Leroy Hunter, a 70-year-old Camp Verde resident, who pays $68 a month for water in the summer. "The people on fixed incomes can`t afford the increases."

Some studies have linked arsenic to cancer, but there has been debate about what level is safe for human consumption. The substance is naturally occurring in the West.

      Dear EYI shareholder,

In our continuing pro-active efforts to keep investors apprised of the most relevant and timely information on EYI Industries and its target markets, AGORA is pleased to present you with this latest Industry Report which demonstrates the need for a product such as the Code Blue™ water filtration system throughout many parts of China.

Code Blue is an international provider of water treatment solutions, treating water for industrial, municipal, and residential customers. Code Blue builds and markets filtration and treatment systems to remove harmful contaminants like arsenic, elements, and compounds from potable water.

This is momentous as EYI has recently entered into an agreement for the sale of an undisclosed number of Patented Code Blue(TM) Water Filtration Systems over a 2-year period in China. China`s large rural population and poor infrastructure in those outlying regions have created a huge demand for the Code Blue(TM) system which will facilitate the removal of harmful toxins from water, making it safe for human consumption.

      Regards,

Hydrolflow currently holds 4 companies HydroFlo Water Treatment Inc, Metals and Arsenic Removal Technology Inc, Safety Scan Technology Inc, and Ultra Choice Water Inc. With so many diversified companies within Hydroflow, there is major potential of synergies. The ability to benefit from the knowledge and expertise of four different companies will allow Hydroflow to grow and perhaps invent some sort of new technology.

In junior companies like Hydroflow, a strong management team is key. From 1988 to 1997 Mr. Mast held the position of President / Chief Executive Officer at Environmental Aspecs, Inc., where he was responsible for the development and oversight of all facets of the environmental engineering company employing approximately 55 professionals. Services included engineering, geological studies, testing, consulting and remediation of properties containing regulated hazardous wastes. During his time with Environmental Aspecs, Mr. Mast grew the company from start-up to eight million dollars annual revenues and was the recipient of the Triangle Fast 50 Award as one of 50 fastest growing companies in the Triangle North Carolina area in 1993, 1994, 1995, and 1997.

His accomplishments at Environmental Aspecs, Inc. also won him the Future 30 Award as one of 30 fastest growing companies in the Raleigh area in 1995 and 1997, the North Carolina Technology Award as one of 50 fastest growing technological companies in the North Carolina area in 1995 and 1996, and qualified the company as a North Carolina Qualified Business Venture with the Secretary of State.

Other executive positions held by Mr. Mast include Government Project Manager for Kimmins Environmental, Inc. of Tampa, Florida, Partner and Officer of Kian Corporation of Reading, Pennsylvania, Owner / Operator of Binstall Construction Company of Elverson, Pennsylvania. Now that’s a track record.

We believe that Hydroflow has strong potential to grow – just not in the short term. The share value seems to be correcting itself and unless we see another disaster, we don’t see the share value having that explosive potential anytime soon. Streetinvesting.com will be taking Hydroflow off of our watchlist.

Management operates in a rather lucrative space, offering executing strong performance metrics, while also effectively managing expense and overhead relative to net asset growth. The Company reported a net asset increase (total assets less liabilities) to $23,067,969 as of June 30, 2005 from $2,432,344 for the same period last year. Total assets increased over ten times from June 30, 2004, and total liabilities increased from $1,781 last year to $2,154,580 this year. Net income for the fiscal year was $18,887,666, or $.52 per share on a fully diluted basis as well as a net asset value for the company of $.62 per share.
Aggregate sales were $109,208 for the eight-months ended March 3, 2004. This compares with revenues of $244,243 and $5,001 for the years ended June 30, 2003 and 2002 respectively. These sales numbers fluctuate, and are not very comparable, due to the fact that we were just beginning to penetrate the market place. HYRF generated no operating revenues during the year ended June 30, 2005 and the period March 4, 2004 to June 30, 2004, since earnings during these periods are based primarily on changes in investment valuations. Further, the Company did commence charging a management fee to each of the portfolio companies; however, these fees will not be formally booked as revenue until the portfolio companies generate sufficient positive cash flow to remit these fees.
Employee compensation expenses were $489,335 for the eight-months ended March 3, 2004. This compares with expenses of $907,755 and $606,072 for the years ended June 30, 2003 and 2002 respectively. On an annualized basis, HYRF experienced a 19% decrease in compensation expense in 2004 from 2003.

      INDUSTRY HIGHLIGHTS1
      • According to Frost & Sullivan Water Equipment and Services report, the industry revenue totaled $104.9 billion in 2003 and is projected to reach $150 billion in 2010.
      • During 1992-2003, federal funding remained more or less constant, increasing by mere 2%, of which grants for water transportation and resources increased by only 3% and 1%, respectively.
      • The water systems infrastructure is aging rapidly being a call for the U.S. Government to increase spending in the water segment in order to meet the growth targets for the industry.
      • According to the Environmental Protection Agency, approximately $138 billion is needed by 2016 for upgrading/replacing the water infrastructure to comply with the safety standards prescribed by the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA).
      • The U.S. water industry is witnessing strong M&A activity with the recent entry of several large participants such as GE, Siemens AG, Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux, and RWE Thames Water among others.
      1 Frost & Sullivan, Dec, 2004
      • In future, partnerships between public water systems and local, state and federal governments are likely to play a key role in meeting drinking water infrastructure needs. This could ensure sustainability of public water systems and the security of facilities.
      • According to Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) program, the main destinations for the funds are: treatment projects – 43%, transmission and distribution projects – 32%.

Arsenic level high in water at school
Tests at Lansing`s Gunnisonville exceed standard

      By Susan Vela
      Lansing State Journal

DeWITT TWP. - Gunnisonville Elementary will restrict its drinking water after levels of arsenic that exceed federal guidelines were found in the school`s well water.

Students and staff will have to drink bottled water indefinitely, starting Monday, while the Lansing School District determines its next step.

Drawing water from huge containers might be the best option, schools spokeswoman Roni Rucker Waters said Wednesday, because it would cost about $5,000 a year. Tying into Lansing`s water system could cost the district $500,000, and sinking a new well could cost about $30,000, she said.

Letters went home Wednesday with Gunnisonville`s 240 students.

The building is the only Lansing district school connected to a well.

School fountains will be shut off after Friday so no one can drink from them.

Long-term exposure to arsenic can cause health problems.

Tara Campbell, who has two children at the school, said she`s glad leaders are being proactive.

"You don`t know how much of a health threat it is at this point," Campbell said, adding she would save worrying until there is evidence of a serious hazard.

It was unclear Wednesday whether other properties draw water from the well. Township Manager Matthew Kulhanek didn`t respond to requests for comment. Rucker Waters said a recent test showed Gunnisonville water had an arsenic contaminant level of 0.012 parts per million.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency`s standard is 0.010 parts per million.

People who consume high levels of arsenic over many years can experience skin lesions, circulatory problems, and an increased risk of skin and internal cancer.

"Arsenic is more or less a cumulative contaminant," said Robert McCann, spokesman for the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.

Parent Sheree Shepherd said she wonders how long students have been exposed. She grew up drinking well water but knows little about arsenic.

"I can`t decide whether I`d want to have my son tested," she said. "All I know is it`s a poison."

      About arsenic
      • Arsenic, a toxin and carcinogen, is a widely distributed, naturally occurring element in the Earth`s crust and it is present in trace amounts in all living organisms.

      • The Environmental Protection Agency set 10 parts per billion (ppb) or 0.010 parts per million (ppm) as the standard for water systems in 2002. The compliance date for water systems is 2006.

      • Arsenic tends to occur in higher levels more often in water used by small communities, which typically rely on wells for drinking water, according to Congressional Research Service.

      • Testing urine for arsenic will indicate exposure over the past few days, and testing hair will indicate exposure over the past few months.

      • To have your drinking water tested for arsenic, call the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality`s drinking water laboratory at (517) 335-8184.

Hydroflo Corrects and Supplements Prior Releases and Reports
Wednesday October 26, 5:33 pm ET

RALEIGH, NC--(MARKET WIRE)--Oct 26, 2005 -- In certain prior press releases and analyst reports, the terms and conditions of an agreement between Hydroflo, Inc. (OTC BB:HYRF.OB - News) portfolio company Metal & Arsenic Removal Technology, Inc. ("MARTI") and Essentially Yours Industries, Inc. ("EYI") were inaccurately or incompletely reported. Hydroflo issues this press release to provide accurate and more complete information about that agreement and certain other matters.

Effective May 11, 2005, MARTI entered into a reseller agreement with EYI. Pursuant to this agreement, MARTI is to manufacture and supply to EYI certain products, including specially marked Code Blue(TM) pitchers and specially formulated Code Blue(TM) filters. EYI is the exclusive distributor, and MARTI is the exclusive supplier, for these specially marked or formulated products.

EYI initially planned to sell the products in the United States and Canada, and EYI projected that it would order 72,000 pitchers and 468,000 filters during the period from July 2005 to June 2006. EYI has since indicated that on September 23, 2005, its affiliate Essentially Yours Industries (Hong Kong) Limited ("EYI HK") entered into an agreement with Guangzhou Zhongdian Enterprises (Group) Co. Ltd. ("GZE") and China Electronics Import and Export South China Corporation ("CEIEC"). According to EYI, this agreement projects that CEIEC will order $210 million of Code Blue(TM) product from EYI HK during the two-year period 2006-2007.

MARTI is not a party to that agreement, and the projections in that agreement are projections of revenue to EYI HK, not to MARTI.

Neither the EYI HK-GZE-CEIEC agreement nor MARTI`s own agreement with EYI require the purchase of a particular quantity or dollar amount of Code Blue(TM) products. Furthermore, MARTI provides the Code Blue(TM) product to EYI on a consignment basis, meaning that MARTI is not entitled to payment for the product until EYI actually sells it to EYI`s customers.

Under the terms of its agreement with EYI, MARTI is obligated only to maintain a minimum inventory of 1,000 units of each Code Blue(TM) item. To date, EYI has requested the production of 10,000 pitchers and 16,800 filters, MARTI has shipped 3,078 pitchers and 3,078 filters to EYI, and MARTI has been paid $15,000 for units sold by EYI.

      More specific corrections follow:

      July 18, 2005 Press Release

Hydroflo`s July 18, 2005 press release indicated that Hydroflo portfolio company Advanced Water Recycle, Inc. ("AWRI") had received a request from a coastal region of North Carolina "to start treatment of 70 million gallons of water per day for the next 10 years." AWRI has discussed options for the treatment of such water volumes with various governmental officials and expressed interest in providing its goods and services for that purpose, but AWRI has not received any requests to provide those services.

      August 3, 2005 Press Release

Hydroflo`s August 3, 2005 press release indicated that MARTI had amended an agreement with EYI to include additional water filtration systems. This press release also discussed an "order" by EYI and stated that "[t]he total retail value of this order exceeds $7.5 million."

MARTI`s agreement with EYI was not amended at that time. As noted above, MARTI`s agreement with EYI was and remains a consignment agreement whereby EYI pays MARTI only for those items actually purchased by EYI`s customers. EYI is not required to purchase a particular quantity or dollar volume of MARTI`s products, and it has not purchased $7.5 million of MARTI`s products.

      August 4, 2005 Press Release

Hydroflo`s August 4, 2005 press release discussed a "$1.2 million order received on May 18." As noted above, MARTI`s agreement with EYI is a consignment agreement whereby EYI pays MARTI only for those items actually purchased by EYI`s customers. EYI is not required to purchase a particular quantity or dollar volume of MARTI`s products, and as of this date it has not purchased $1.2 million of MARTI`s product.

      August 15, 2005 and August 18, 2005 Press Releases

Hydroflo`s August 15, 2005 press release indicated that MARTI had amended an agreement with EYI "to meet the demand received from recent transactions in China. The total value of the order is expected to exceed $210 million." Its August 18, 2005 press release also made reference to this "agreement amendment." While EYI did inform MARTI prior to this date that it expected to order substantially more of the Code Blue(TM) product than previously expected as a result of potential sales by EYI into the Chinese market and that such sales might have a value to EYI of as much as $210 million, EYI did not and has not placed an order with MARTI for any particular quantity or dollar volume of products, and neither GZE nor CEIEC is required to order any particular quantity or dollar volume of product from EYI HK. EYI has only requested that MARTI supply on consignment and per the parties` agreement the number of units described earlier in this press release. As explained previously, the figure cited in the press release is a projection of revenue to EYI HK arising out of its own agreement with Chinese companies GZE and CEIEC, not a projection by MARTI of its own expected revenues from the arrangement.

      September 6, 2005 Press Release

Hydroflo`s September 6, 2005 press release contains a quotation from MARTI`s COO, George Moore, that makes reference to "a projection of over $210 million worth of product sales." As noted above, the projection in question is EYI`s projection of the retail value to EYI HK of EYI HK`s Code Blue(TM) sales into the Chinese market.

      September 7, 2005 Press Release

In its September 7, 2005 press release, Hydroflo indicated that MARTI`s initial daily goal for the production of pitchers and filters in China would be 8,000 pitchers and 25,000 filters and projected that the facility would produce over 2 million pitchers and 6 million filters per year. This facility will produce only those pitchers and filters reasonably necessary to satisfy the demands of MARTI`s customers. At present, the only such demand has been EYI`s request for the production of the quantities of pitchers and filters mentioned earlier in this press release.

      September 12 and 16, 2005 Press Releases

Hydroflo`s September 12, 2005 and September 16, 2005 press releases concerned Hydroflo`s response to Hurricane Katrina. To the extent these releases state or imply that Hydroflo`s portfolio companies had actually reached agreements with any entities to supply consulting services, they are inaccurate. Certain of those companies have simply offered such services.

      September 20, 2005 Press Release (Corrected October 7, 2005)

Hydroflo`s September 20, 2005 press release captioned "First Shipment of Filtering Systems leaves for Hurricane Katrina Survivors" (corrected October 7, 2005) incorrectly continues to indicate in its caption that the water pitcher and filtration units mentioned in the release had been shipped and that further shipments to FEMA and DOD would be made at a later time. In fact, as indicated in the text of the release, those goods had not yet been shipped. They were scheduled to ship on October 15, 2005, but the shipment has been delayed, and they have not been shipped as of the date of this release. In addition, the article incorrectly indicates that the pitchers and filters were to be shipped to DOD and FEMA, when in fact they were to be shipped to Judge Nicki Boland.

      September 27, 2005 Press Release (Corrected October 6, 2005)

Hydroflo`s September 27, 2005 press release (corrected October 6, 2005) refers to a "Guaranteed 2 Year $42 Million Agreement With Chinese Distribution Company" and states that MARTI would produce and supply this quantity of pitchers and filters to EYI. In fact, these revenue projections are projections of revenue to EYI HK arising out of the agreement, not projections of revenue to MARTI. CEIEC (the Chinese distribution company) is not required to purchase any particular quantity of product from EYI, and EYI is not required to purchase a particular quantity or dollar volume of MARTI`s products.

      September 28, 2005 Press Release (Corrected October 6, 2005)

Hydroflo`s September 28, 2005 press release (corrected October 6, 2005) incorrectly indicates that Hydroflo values the EYI HK-GZE-CEIEC contract at $210,000,000 over the next two years. As noted above, MARTI`s agreement with EYI is a consignment agreement whereby EYI pays MARTI only for those items actually purchased by EYI`s customers. EYI is not required to purchase a particular quantity or dollar volume of MARTI`s products. As explained previously, the figure cited in the press release is a projection of revenue to EYI HK arising out of its own agreement with Chinese companies GZE and CEIEC, not a projection by MARTI of its own expected revenues from the arrangement.

      September 30, 2005 Press Release

Hydroflo`s September 30, 2005 press release inaccurately states the reason for Hydroflo`s decision to seek additional time to file its Form 10-K and inaccurately suggests, in a quotation from its CEO, Dennis Mast, that Hydroflo values a portion of the MARTI-EYI business at $42 million or at over $210 million over the next two years.

Hydroflo`s 10-K filing was delayed because Hydroflo`s accountants requested that its Board of Directors seek an independent valuation, the Board of Directors did so, and the valuation was not completed in time for the 10-K to incorporate it and still be filed by the original deadline.

As noted above, the $42 million and $210 million figures reflect EYI`s estimate of the retail value to EYI of orders of the Code Blue(TM) pitcher in the Chinese market. MARTI`s agreement with EYI is a consignment agreement whereby EYI pays MARTI only for those items actually purchased by EYI`s customers. EYI is not required to purchase a particular quantity or dollar volume of MARTI`s products. The projections in the article relate to EYI`s expectations for its own sales, not MARTI`s expected revenues from the arrangement.

      10/3/2005 Wasserman Morris Report

The October 3, 2005 report on Hydroflo, Inc. issued by Wasserman Morris contained a number of inaccurate or incomplete statements about the company. In particular:

The report refers to a "recently signed agreement with ... China Electronics Import and South China Export Corporation." To the extent the report could be read to suggest that Hydroflo has a recently signed agreement with this company, it is in error. Neither Hydroflo nor any of its portfolio companies have an agreement with China Electronics Import and South China Export Corporation. MARTI reseller EYI has reported such an agreement with a similarly named company.

The report also indicates that the reported agreement "is likely to provide [Hydroflo] with roughly $210 million in revenues for the next two years from the sale of water filters and pitchers in the Chinese Market." While MARTI`s agreement with EYI could provide MARTI with significant revenue ultimately derived from EYI`s sale of water filters and pitchers to the Chinese company, neither MARTI`s agreement with EYI nor EYI`s agreement with CEIEC guarantees the purchase of particular quantities or dollar volumes. The $210 million projection in the Wasserman Morris report is the amount that EYI reports as CEIEC`s projected purchase from EYI during the stated period.

The report indicates that MARTI`s collaboration with EYI "could also bring [Hydroflo] up to $7.5 million in revenues from the sale of water filters, pitchers and FATS units in the U.S. and Canada markets during the next twelve months." While MARTI`s agreement with EYI could provide MARTI with significant revenue ultimately derived from EYI`s sale of water pitchers and filters in the United States and Canadian markets, EYI is not currently selling the FATS unit, and the 12-month, $7.5 million revenue projection contained in the Wasserman Morris report is EYI`s projection of its own revenues for a stated period (not the next twelve months), not a projection of MARTI`s likely revenues.

The report also states that Hydroflo is "actively involved in the restoration of basic sanitary living conditions in the hurricane-ravaged regions of Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana." To date, Hydroflo`s involvement in such activities has been limited to MARTI`s donation of 5,000 water pitcher and filter units for use in affected areas, for which Hydroflo`s chairman has informally agreed to reimburse the company, and to offers to provide consulting services to governmental organizations.

The report also states that Hydroflo`s management "expects to secure a portion of the $100 billion that are being made available for disaster relief." Hydroflo has no present basis to expect to secure a portion of this money, although Hydroflo`s portfolio companies are seeking contracts to provide their products and services for that purpose.

Finally, the report states that the company "moved its corporate offices to North Carolina." The offices simply moved within the state to a larger space.

      Hydroflo`s 10-K Filing

Hydroflo`s 10-K reported that the company`s board members receive no compensation. In fact, board member Shane Traveller receives $1,500/month and board member Ross Smith receives $500/month.

Hydroflo`s 10-K has a typographical error in the section describing the company`s ethics policy. The company`s ethics policy can be found at http://www.hydroflo.us/Content%20Pages/OFFICIAL%20CODE%20OF%…

Hydroflo`s 10-K reported that the company had received a second subpoena from the SEC regarding a nonpublic fact-finding inquiry into the activities of other entities not managed by Hydroflo, Inc. In fact, Hydroflo, its CEO Dennis Mast, and MARTI COO George Moore have received and complied with subpoenas in connection with a formal investigation that includes inquiries into the accuracy of Hydroflo`s press releases and public filings.

Dort steht: " MARTI is not a party to that agreement [von EYII mit CEIEC], and the projections in that agreement are projections of revenue to EYI HK, not to MARTI."

" Ach so - MARTI macht also gar keinen Umsatz mit China, also alles ein Fake!"

Denn EYII KANN NUR BEI MARTI einkaufen!!

HydroFlo Chairman Addresses Business Strategy and Operational Concerns
HydroFlo (OTC BB: HYRFE) today announced that company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dennis Mast, has addressed a letter to shareholders wherein he addresses the status of current operations and outlines the company`s overall strategy. The full text of the shareholder letter is available on the company`s website @ www.hydroflo.us.

Highlights of the letter include the company`s plan to dividend shares of Metals and Arsenic Removal Technology, Inc. ("MARTI") common stock to HydroFlo shareholders as part of an overall plan to eventually create a public market for MARTI stock. Said Mr. Mast, "Our business model has always been founded on nurturing emerging technologies until they are strong enough to stand alone, and then rewarding HydroFlo shareholders for their continued support and investment. We are excited that the first of these opportunities is imminently forthcoming. Separating MARTI from HydroFlo will achieve several favorable results: 1) HydroFlo shareholders will reap the immediate benefit of having a more direct ownership interest in MARTI, 2) MARTI will be able to avail itself of financing on terms and in a structure that would not be otherwise available, and 3) creating a trading market for MARTI stock would better allow HydroFlo to value its investment portfolio."

Mr. Mast further stated, "Our management team remains committed to the belief that MARTI and all of our portfolio companies are sound investments in proven technologies. To this date, MARTI has shipped 49,000 units of its water filters and 23,000 units of water pitchers, as well as installing a large commercial arsenic removal system. We consider these modest achievements to be a forerunner of increasing sales activity for the company. While MARTI will not recognize revenues from shipping units to distributors until units are subsequently resold, we consider the high level of interest and strong forecast to be a positive indicator for MARTI`s future."

The letter concludes, "We are excited by the future of both HydroFlo and our portfolio companies. We regret that recent miscommunications have shaken shareholder confidence; however, we believe that the best course of action is to simply ensure that our portfolio companies remain focused and growing. While we cannot predict what affect our success may have on our stock price, we expect that market forces will prevail and that the correct value of our business will be reflected in our stock."

      Dear HydroFlo Shareholders:
In light of recent events surrounding HydroFlo, and in response to the numerous phone
calls from concerned investors, I felt it both necessary and appropriate to address your
collective concerns and outline our operational strategy for the coming months.
HydroFlo is a business development company whose operations entail raising capital
from the public and then investing that capital into qualified portfolio companies. Our
Board of Directors has previously determined to focus our investments into natural
resource technology companies. Currently, we have two active portfolio investments,
Hydroflo Water Treatment, Inc. (“HWTI”), and Metals and Arsenic Removal Technology,
Inc. (“MARTI”), and investments in three other developing technology companies.
Our management team remains committed to the belief that all of our portfolio
companies are sound investments in proven technologies. To date, MARTI has shipped
49,000 units of its water filters and 23,000 water pitcher units, as well as installation of a
commercial arsenic removal system. We consider these modest achievements to be a
forerunner of increasing sales activity for the company. While MARTI will not recognize
revenues from shipping units to distributors until the distributors subsequently resell the
product, we consider the high level of interest and strong forecast to be a positive
      indicator for MARTI’s future.”
Our 2006 operations will be focused on helping all of our portfolio companies achieve
their fullest market potential. As MARTI’s sales go from projections to recognized
revenues, we anticipate spinning MARTI off as a separate public entity. This process
will entail a dividend of MARTI common stock to our HydroFlo shareholders followed by
a registration of such stock with the SEC. Our business model has always be founded
on nurturing emerging technologies until they are strong enough to stand alone and then
rewarding HydroFlo shareholders for their continued support and investment. We are
excited that the first of these opportunities is imminently forthcoming. Separating MARTI
from HydroFlo will achieve several favorable results: 1) HydroFlo shareholders will reap
the immediate benefit of having a more direct ownership interest in MARTI, 2) MARTI
will be able to avail itself of financing on terms and in a structure that would not be
otherwise available, and 3) creating a trading market for MARTI stock would better allow
HydroFlo to value its investment portfolio. MARTI is presently valued on our financial
statements based on the estimated fair value assuming an arm’s length transaction.
While we believe that the projections used in determining such fair value are reasonable
and conservative, they are still projections and the value on our books is a subjective
estimate. Given the relative value of MARTI to the remainder of our portfolio, we believe
that market forces may best determine MARTI’s value.
As indicated in previous press releases, I am pleased to welcome Mr. William H. Warden
as our new Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Warden recently held the position of Financial
       Page 2
Director of Faulkner/Haynes & Assoc., a distributor of HVAC equipment, in Raleigh, NC,
and has served as the Chief Financial Officer of the Athey Products Corp., a
manufacturer of street sweeping equipment, where he was responsible for the
accounting, financings, and SEC Filings of 10Qs and 10Ks.
Mr. Warded will assist with implementing additional internal controls to ensure the timely
and accurate filing of future financial statements. These controls will augment our
controls for the preparation and dissemination of shareholder information, including
press releases. Our foremost goal in this regard is to ensure that our investors have the
most recently available company information and that such information is both accurate
      and timely.
With the recent retirement of our audit committee chairman and director, Mr. Traveller,
we have begun a search to complete our board of directors. We expect to name a
replacement to serve until the next annual meeting shortly. In the meantime, Mr.
Traveller will continue to advise and assist in whatever capacity is needed. We thank
him for his past service to the company and wish him well in retirement.
While HydroFlo is not a cash rich company, we have adequate short-term capital to
meet the demands of our portfolio investments and help with their immediate needs.
The true value of HydroFlo lies with the technologies of our portfolio companies and their
ability to translate that technology into strong revenues in the near future. We are
disappointed that some individuals would prefer to seek to destroy the company through
protracted legal battles that would result in our precious capital being used solely to
      increase the coffers of attorneys.
In summary, we are excited by the future of both HydroFlo and our portfolio companies.
      We regret that recent miscommunications have shaken shareholder confidence;
however, we believe that the best course of action is to simply ensure that our portfolio
companies remain focused and growing. While we cannot predict what affect our
success may have on our stock price, we expect that market forces will prevail and that
the correct value of our business will be reflected in our stock.
Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

CEO and President, Mr. Jay Sargeant stated, ``This is a truly exciting moment. The pre-market testing of both the product`s marketability and customer satisfaction has been incredible. Our distribution channel and customer base loved the test Code Blue units and we anticipate they will be very pleased with the finished units.`` Mr. Sargeant continued to say, ``Many who used the test units found them simple, convenient and cost effective. Our sales team is ready to expand the market in the months ahead. We continue to see the repeat filter sales as the jewel in the crown of this Code Blue marketing campaign.``

      Abwarten.
