Also, Kaffee holen und lesen :
Aachener Physiker Dirk Uwe Sauer.

VANCOUVER, Britisch Kolumbien, September 27 /PRNewswire/ -- VRB Power Systems Inc. (TSX-V: VRB)

Clean energy looks lucrative: Study
Even politicians are finally embracing the environment as top issue, report from Sprott Securities notes

Rising power prices, the need to build more electricity generation and serious concerns for the environment are creating huge investment opportunities in the clean-energy market, according to a report from Sprott Securities Inc.
The situation has become so pressing that politicians in Canada and the U.S. are embracing the environment as a top campaign issue as both countries nudge closer to elections.
"I don't think we've ever seen these (market) drivers converge as we're seeing now," said MacMurray Whale, alternative energy analyst at Sprott and author of the report, Power, Politics and Technology.
"Energy security, high energy prices and issues of the environment – they're all being dealt with at the same time. Politicians are looking around and looking at the potential of technology. They're saying, `How can we fix this? I need a tool to fix this.' At the same time, you have the cost of these technologies coming down."
Whale said the problems aren't new, and neither are the technologies. What has changed is that the public – and investors – are becoming more aware of them in a way that is beginning to alter the psychology of the market.
This has also led to a significant shifting of the political climate. Whale's report points out that leading candidates for the 2008 U.S. election are expected to make the environment a key issue. In Canada, the Stephen Harper government is rebranding itself as an environmental custodian that embraces sustainable development.
For example, Environment Minister John Baird and Natural Resources Minister Gary Lunn are expected to announce today new funding for clean-energy technologies. Other similarly themed announcements are expected over the next couple of weeks, sources say.
Other events over the year that, according to Whale, drew attention to alternative energy technologies include:
# The United Kingdom's release of the Nicholas Stern review, which argued that the economy could avoid a devastating blow to global gross domestic product if countries prudently invested a small amount of GDP today to fight climate change.
# Awareness of global warming went mainstream in the U.S. after a destructive hurricane season in 2005 and with the release of Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth and Chris Paine's Who Killed The Electric Car?
# California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger grabbed headlines creating legislation that will establish a carbon cap and trade system, part of a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in California by 25 per cent by 2020. That state also introduced a new clean-fuel standard, on top of programs that support solar energy and energy efficiency.
"We believe these themes will not just increase the deployment of wind turbines, run-of-river hydro, solar panels and biomass plants, but that investor interest will also increase," Whale wrote. "This should drive valuations higher, reflecting the growth prospects for both facility developers and technology suppliers."
Sprott highlights several companies that show the most promise, including power electronics maker Xantrex Technology Inc., solar LED innovator Carmanah Technologies Inc. and flow battery pioneer VRB Power Systems Inc. All are British Columbia-based companies.
On the power developer side, Boralex Inc. was singled out for its "very strong position" as Quebec proceeds with plans to develop 2,000 megawatts of wind power in the province.

Hallo

VANCOUVER, Britisch Kolumbien, September 27 /PRNewswire/ -- VRB Power Systems Inc. (TSX-V: VRB)

Gute News:
VANCOUVER, March 26 /CNW/ - VRB Power Systems Inc. (TSX-V: VRB - News) announces that the VRB-ESS(TM) being sold to Tapbury Management Limited ("Tapbury") for Phase II of the Sorne Hill Wind Farm in County Donegal, Ireland ("Sorne Hill") has been increased in size from a 1.5MW x 8hr system to a 2MW x 6hr system.
The value of this contract to VRB Power has increased from US$6.3 million to approximately US$9.4 million. The agreement remains subject to execution of final contracts between Tapbury and VRB Power.
The re-sizing of this system follows completion of the independent feasibility study on the implementation of the VRB-ESS at Sorne Hill jointly commissioned by Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) and Tapbury. This study validates a number of the key revenue streams that will be generated by the VRB-ESS. It also concludes that the optimum size of the system is 2MW of power with 6 hours of storage and the ability to provide 3MW of pulse power for 10 minute periods every hour in order to deal with short term volatility in wind generation.
The study focuses on wind generation at Sorne, and also shows the potential for storage across Ireland with respect to the planned roll out of wind power and Ireland's Kyoto commitments. A summary of the study has been published on SEI's web site (www.sei.ie) and is also available on VRB Power's web site (www.vrbpower.com) under the "VRB News" section.
"Wind energy is one of Ireland's largest accessible renewable energy resources," said David Taylor CEO of Sustainable Energy Ireland. "In the recent Energy White Paper, the Irish Government set a target to deliver 33% of electricity from renewable sources by 2020, a significant proportion of which will be provided by wind. Integrating large amounts of wind power presents many challenges with regard to grid upgrade costs, power quality and of course intermittency management. Through its funding of this study, SEI is therefore pleased to be supporting activities which will enhance the understanding and market uptake of these energy storage technologies and which will help us to realise the full potential of wind energy in Ireland."
"We are delighted with the findings of this study," stated John Ward, Director of Tapbury. "The report provides technical and economic validation for a number of the key revenue streams that we had previously identified for the planned implementation of the VRB-ESS at Sorne Hill. The increase in the size of the system enables us to maximize these revenue streams and, when combined with additional market based payments, shown in the Grant Thornton report included in the study, provides a strong economic case for this purchase. In particular, the study demonstrates the potential for purchasers of VRB Energy Storage Systems in the Irish market to achieve a very healthy IRR of 17.5% on their investment."
"This study now provides us with the data and validation required to finalize our off-take and other revenue agreements for Sorne Hill. This will in turn enable us to complete our project finance requirements and execute final contracts with VRB Power Systems," concluded Ward.
"This study demonstrates the economic viability of our systems for wind farms such as Sorne Hill," stated Tim Hennessy, CEO of VRB Power Systems. "This is largely due to our ability to enable wind powered generation to match many of the characteristics of conventional 'base load and peaking plant', thereby allowing wind power to be dispatched in a similar way to conventional generation. The report also highlights the need for storage in Ireland to enable the successful roll-out of wind generation from the current installed base of approx. 800MW up to and beyond the 3,000MW currently contracted or proposed, and to deal with the intermittency and constraint issues already being experienced. It is estimated that at least 700MW of storage may be required across Ireland. This sale will provide us with a "blue-print" to execute on similar opportunities in Ireland and worldwide," concluded Hennessy.

- Sales revenue and other income was $467,883 for the year compared to $213,937 for 2005
- Operating expenses were $11,205,275 for the year compared to $4,650,235 and other expenses were $15,000 compared to $283,660 in 2005
- Net loss of $10,752,392 ($0.10 per share) for the year compared to $4,719,958 ($0.05 per share) for the comparative period
- The Company announced its largest contract to date, the sale of a 2MW (3MW pulse) x 6hr VRB-ESS(TM) to Tapbury Management Limited ("Tapbury") for approximately (euro)7.4 million (US$10.1 million).

- The independent study commissioned by Sustainable Energy Ireland and Tapbury was released in March 2007 and validates the key value streams of the VRB-ESS and the sizing of the system being purchased by Tapbury
- Additional sales of five 10kWh systems, one 15kW x 8hr system and one 5kW x 4hr system were made during the period with an additional 5kW x 4hr system sale since year end
- Deliveries of six 10kWh systems and one 30kW x 2hr system were made pursuant to sales orders, and deliveries of three 10kWh systems were made pursuant to field trial arrangements, during the period
- All of the systems delivered during 2006 have been commissioned and are either in laboratory or field testing. Feedback to date has been in line with expectations with the core technology performing well
- Commercial 5kW multi hour systems will be available from mid 2007
- Costs of the 5kW multi hour systems have been significantly reduced from the pre-commercial version, in line with expected
cost reductions
- The Company was granted three additional patents as part of its
strategy of continuing to strengthen its worldwide intellectual
property portfolio
Aber alles eine Frage der Zeit. Mitte 2007 sollte es losgehen...
Freitag kam ja auch noch Zahlen:
- Sales revenue and other income was $467,883 for the year compared to $213,937 for 2005
- Operating expenses were $11,205,275 for the year compared to $4,650,235 and other expenses were $15,000 compared to $283,660 in 2005
- Net loss of $10,752,392 ($0.10 per share) for the year compared to $4,719,958 ($0.05 per share) for the comparative period

"The Company continues to build strong momentum," said Tim Hennessy, VRB Power Chairman&CEO. "I am very pleased with the work that has been done by our engineering and manufacturing teams in moving our 5kW systems from pre-production to commercial status."
"We have showcased our commercial 5kW x multi hour systems at a number of recent industry shows with significant interest being generated; this system will be formally unveiled at NxtComm 2007, the large telecommunications show, in mid June. In addition, our ability to provide telecommunications providers with a product which not only provides reliable, long life back-up power, but also the opportunity at the same time to cut their electricity bills in their "on grid" sites or their diesel consumption in their "off grid" sites, makes us unique and is generating a number of opportunities for us."
"On the renewable side, things continue to move forward in Ireland with the release of the SEI/Tapbury study providing strong economic validation for coupling our technology with wind farms in Ireland. As well the Aus $1.83 million for up to 90 systems across Australia provides good impetus for our solar initiatives," concluded Hennessy.
The consolidated financial statements of the Company for the period ended March 31, 2007 and Management's Discussion and Analysis ("MD&A") thereon were prepared in accordance with Canadian generally accepted accounting principles and are presented in Canadian dollars. The Consolidated Balance Sheets, Consolidated Statements of Operations and Deficit and Consolidated Statements of Cash Flows are set out below. The full financial statements and MD&A will be filed on SEDAR (http://www.sedar.com/) shortly.

Speicher sollen Strom billiger

mal sehen was 2008 so bringt.
Viel Glück allen Investierten!
P.S.: übrigens geht bei P9B (powerbags) auch wieder was...

California Energy Commission & Sacramento Municipal Utility District Provide Funding Towards the Installation of a 20kW x 9hr VRB-ESS(TM) at a Telecoms Site in California

RICHMOND, BC, March 6, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --
VRB Power Systems Inc. (CA:VRB) announces that the California Energy Commission ("CEC") and the Sacramento Municipal Utility District ("SMUD") awarded funding towards the purchase of a 20kW x 9hr VRB Energy Storage System (VRB-ESS(TM)) to be installed at a major U.S. telecoms service provider's telecommunication site in Sacramento, California. The system will provide 3 hours of back-up power and additionally power the site for 6 hours during peak power times, shifting demand on the site from peak to off peak times. The total contract value to VRB Power from this project will be approximately US$300,000 which will be borne equally by the CEC, SMUD and the customer.
The ability to provide both of these functions from the same system is a unique characteristic of VRB Power's flow battery technology. Shifting demand from this site to off peak times will reduce peak demand on the local grid and potentially reduce the customer's electricity charges by switching to Time of Use versus standard rate charges.
This project has attracted support and funding from CEC because of the potential to roll out similar systems in many other sites in California with the intention to shift a significant portion of the State's peak demand to off peak times which is directly in line with California's Energy Policy goals.
"This project demonstrates the economic value of energy storage and the Energy Commission is pleased to be funding this endeavour," said Energy Commissioner Art Rosenfeld. "Additionally, with the technology to shift electrical load from peak to off peak, it has the potential to reduce demand on California's electrical transmission grid at times when we most need it," added Rosenfeld.

AMSC Receives PowerModule(TM) Order for VRB Power Systems Wind Energy Storage Device
Tue Apr 17, 2007 6:30 AM ET
WESTBOROUGH, Mass.--(Business Wire)--American Superconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: AMSC), a leading
energy technologies company, announced today continued growth in
orders for its power electronics solutions for the global wind power
market. The company's PowerModule(TM) power converter technology has
been selected to manage power for a unique wind energy storage system
- a new product that is expected to increase the uniformity of
electricity from wind farms. AMSC also reported another new order for
its D-VAR(R) reactive compensation product - in this latest case to
enable connection of a wind farm in Scotland to the local power grid.
AMSC's PowerModule power electronic converters have been ordered
by VRB Power Systems, Inc. ("VRB Power") of Vancouver, British
Columbia and will be integrated into their energy storage systems.
This energy storage technology, developed by VRB Power, has the
ability to store excess wind-generated energy when the demand is low,
and release it when the demand exceeds the available wind generated
power. The storage system has the potential to increase the supply
reliability of wind energy and reduce the cost of the reserve
requirements from generation plants (for more information please
visit: http://www.vrbpower.com/docs/media/Windpower011307.pdf). This
is a new application for PowerModules in the renewable energy space
and expands the breadth of AMSC's offerings in the wind industry.
"AMSC's wind energy solutions are the products of choice for
today's wind farm developers and contractors seeking to develop and
deploy world class, wind-generation systems," said Greg Yurek, founder
and CEO of AMSC. "The D-VAR has become the standard for wind farm
operators facing strict grid interconnection standards while the
PowerModule's flexibility and configurability makes it ideally suited
for many industries and applications such as the renewable energy
market."
AMSC also reported an order for a six megaVAR (MVAR) D-VAR system
from Scottish Hydro Contracting for the Millennium wind farm, which is
under construction in Scotland. This system will help regulate voltage
so the 40-megawatt (MW) wind farm can meet the United Kingdom's grid
interconnection standards. The Millennium wind farm will be the ninth
wind farm located in the United Kingdom and the 26th wind farm
worldwide to utilize AMSC's D-VAR solution. Delivery of the system is
expected in the second half of calendar 2007.
With the addition of the Scottish wind farm and the VRB order,
AMSC now has an installed base and orders for D-VAR and PowerModule
solutions to serve nearly 3,000 megawatts (MW) of wind power worldwide
- triple the amount served by AMSC 12 months ago. With approximately
15,000 MW of wind power capacity installed worldwide in 2006, the
additional 2,000 MW served by AMSC over the past year represents a
significant share of the overall wind power market.
