Acadia shares soar ahead of late-stage Parkinson's drug data
July 24 (Reuters) - Shares of Acadia Pharmaceuticals Inc soared as much as 44 percent to a year-high on Friday, amid speculation of an imminent release of data from a late-stage trial of its experimental drug for psychosis brought on by Parkinson's disease.

Shares of the company were up 71 cents at $3.31 in late afternoon trade on Nasdaq. They had earlier touched a high of $3.75.

'The speculation appears to be related to results that are due in this quarter for Acadia's pivotal Phase III trial of pimavanserin,' Jon Najarian, a founder of Web information site optionMonster.com, said.

Acadia is co-developing pimavanserin, which is currently being studied in two late-stage trials, with a unit of Biovail Corp for the treatment of Parkinson's disease psychosis (PDP).

Nach dem Human Genome Kurssprung hat jeder unmittelbar vor den Trials offenbar besonders große Kaufpanik. Alle Biotechs steigen zur Zeit - nicht nur in solchen Situationen.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (TheStreet) --Acadia Pharmaceuticals'(ACAD Quote) experimental drug pimavanserin failed to reduce psychosis in patients with Parkinson's disease compared to a placebo, according to results from a pivotal phase III study announced Tuesday.
Acadia shares closed Monday at $5.84, close to the stock's 52-week high, but are likely to fall once trading opens Tuesday. Acadia was a $1 stock in early May, bid up by hopeful healthcare investors seeking a repeat of the stock-ripping study results that catapulted Human Genome Sciences(HGSI Quote) earlier this summer.
The primary goal of the phase III trial was to determine whether treatment with pimavanserin could significantly decrease psychosis -- mainly hallucinations and delusions - that often afflict Parkinson's patients.
Yet on this measure, the drug failed to produce positive results, as measured by the Scale for the Assessment of Positive Symptoms (SAPS). Treatment with pimavanserin at two different dose strengths resulted in mean reductions in SAPS scores of 5.8 points and 6.7 points, but treatment with a placebo resulted in a 5.9-point lowering of the SAPS score.
The difference was not statistical significant, primarily due to larger than expected improvement in placebo-treated patients, the company said.
Pimavanserin did not exacerbate the motor impairment typically seen in patients with Parkinson's, a key secondary endpoint.
"While we obviously are disappointed with the results of this Phase III study, we continue to believe in the potential of pimavanserin based on our clinical experience to date,"said Uli Hacksell, Acadia's chief executive.
Acadia is conducting a second phase III study of pimavanserin. The drug is being developed in partnership with Canadian drug maker Biovail(BVF Quote).

Hier kommt der nächste Kracher! Noch in diesem Quartal wird über FDA-Zulassung verhandelt. Die Studie wurde in 3 Teilstudien aufgeteilt mit verschiedenen Indikationen und die Zwischenergebnisse sollen viel versprechend sein.

Wie man am Chart unschwer erkennen kann, krcht es ordentlich, wenn es kracht. Man sollte vorher, sprich in den nächsten Wochen aufsteigen. Die Bodenbildung wird gerade nach oben verlassen und wir sind auf dem Niveau wie vor dem Ausbruch im letzten Jahr ....

Der Cashbestand liegt bei circa 1,10$pro Aktie, die Nettoverschuldung bei etwa 1,20$ und der aktuelle Kurs steigt derzeit gerade auf 1,70$

Seit Mitte März wird dieser Wert gepusht, teilweise auch von seriösen mailverteilern

Friedman, MD, will present data from ACADIA's previously reported Phase III trial (the -012 Study) with pimavanserin for Parkinson's disease psychosis (PDP) at the 62nd American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting on April 14, 2010 in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Friedman is Professor and Chief, Division of Movement Disorders, Department of Neurology, Warren Alpert Medical School Brown University, and the Director of the Neurohealth Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Center in Warwick, Rhode Island. He is an established expert in Parkinson's disease and was one of the lead investigators in the -012 Study.

In an oral presentation entitled "A multi-center, placebo-controlled, double-blind trial to examine the safety and efficacy of pimavanserin in the treatment of psychosis in Parkinson's disease," Dr. Friedman will discuss data from the trial in which two doses of pimavanserin, 10 mg and 40 mg, were tested against placebo. The primary end point of the study was antipsychotic efficacy as measured using the Scale for the Assessment of Positive Symptoms, or SAPS. As previously reported, all study arms showed marked improvements in mean SAPS scores but neither of the active arms showed a statistically significant separation from placebo at the end of the six-week treatment period. Although statistical significance was not achieved for the primary endpoint, the 40 mg pimavanserin arm consistently demonstrated signals of efficacy across a number of measures including the SAPS, CGI-I, SCOPA nighttime sleep measure, and caregiver burden scale.

As previously reported, the study met its key secondary endpoint of motoric tolerability as measured using the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale, or UPDRS, and Dr. Friedman will present additional data demonstrating that pimavanserin was safe and well tolerated with the frequency of adverse events generally similar in the pimavanserin and placebo arms.

"Having completed the analysis of the -012 Study, we have used the findings from that study to design a new, U.S.-focused Phase III study, ACP-103-020, which will test 40 mg of pimavanserin versus placebo and which is scheduled to start around mid-year" said Uli Hacksell, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of ACADIA. Trial Design

The -020 Study is expected to enroll about 200 patients at clinical sites located in North America. Patients in the trial will be randomized on a one-to-one basis to two study arms and will receive oral doses of either 40 mg of pimavanserin or placebo once-daily for six weeks. Patients also will continue to receive stable doses of their existing dopamine replacement therapy used to manage the motoric symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. The primary endpoint of the -020 Study is antipsychotic efficacy as measured using a group of nine items from the hallucinations and delusions domains of the Scale for the Assessment of Positive Symptoms (SAPS). The primary endpoint will be assessed using centralized ratings. Gestern haben wir ja an der Nasdaq eine nette Reaktion gesehen (über 20 % + ) aber hier sehe ich noch deutliches Aufwärtpotenzial. Sollten die Phase 3 Ergebnisse positiv verlaufen werden wir hier deutlich 2 stellige Kurse sehen.

acadia hat in den letzten 3 Wochen über 100 % zugelegt. Und das obwohl für 15 Mio $ Aktien platziert wurden.

Bin gespannt wann es hier die nächsten Kracher-news gibt. Jedenfalls bin ich sehr optimistisch für dieses Jahr

ich hab hier vor ein paar Jahren gut verdient. Vorsicht, unmittelbar in den Kurssprung kam damals eine Kapitalerhöhung, die hat nicht nur den Kurs kaputt gemacht, sondern auch das Vertrauen. Man erkennt es auchd aran, dass ich mich immer noch daran erinnere, obwohl ich glücklich rauf kam.

ich schau nicht mehr zu. hab den ausbruch am 9. September gekauft, welcher genau einen Handelstag nach meinem posting gekommen ist (natürlich zufall).
biotech und der healthcare Bereich sind die absoluten kursleader seit der Finanzkrise. leider wird das nur von den wenigsten erkannt. es wird viel über 3d-drucker, smartphones, sozialen Plattformen wie Facebook, linkedin oder yy gesprochen, aber healthcare oder biotechs ist kein Thema.
aber nicht nur die reine Performance des biotech-gesamtsektors ist herausragend, sondern auch die art und weise, wie die biotechs sich bewegen. es ergeben sich saubere basen, ausbrüche funktionieren nachhaltig.
der trendfolger dan zanger schrieb vor kurzem, dass wir uns im besten markt seit 1999 befinden. er handelt seit 2012 überwiegend biotech-Aktien.

hier noch eine weitere Aktie mit einem darvas-ähnlichen chartbild. was mir gefällt ist, dass die tiefpunkte der korrekturen so gut wie nie die vorherigen ausbruchsniveaus verletzen.
im Gegensatz zu acad befindet sich aegr noch im base-building Prozess. ich warte hier ebenfalls auf einen ausbruch.

auf einen Ausbruch würde ich da nicht setzen.Weitere gute Kursentwicklung, vielleicht, aber mit jedem Anstieg erhöht sich das Risiko einer Überbewertung.
Bei Acadia war es sehr ärgerlich zwischen 4 und 5 $ ausgestiegen zu sein. Aber nach der ewig langen Seitwärtsbewegung auch verständlich.

aegr sieht bärenstark aus. das kapital fließt in die Aktie. geringe abverkäufe werden sofort zum kauf genutzt, so dass die Aktie seit einem jahr nicht mehr die 10-wochendurchschnittslinie unterschreitet.

einen starken Kursanstieg als Argument gegen einen einstieg zu nehmen ist sehr gefährlich, denn gerade Aktien mit relativer stärke neigen zur outperformance. klar werden mit jedem Kursanstieg die Bewertungen teurer, aber damit muss man leben, wenn man momentum-trendfolger kauft.
wenn geschäftsaussichten sich rapide verbessern, dann können auch Aktien mit hoher Bewertung und hohem historischen kursverlauf weiter steigen.
allein der kapitalfluss zeigt hier bei aegr und acad an, dass es eben genau diese verbesserung der geschäftsausichten gibt, sonst wäre das kursverhalten nicht so stark.

jetzt reg dich nicht so auf. du beobachtest die Aktie, hast keinen einstieg gefunden und jetzt läuft sie davon. aber das ist jedem schon passiert. mir z. b. dieses jahr mit vips. die wollte ich schon zu 15$, aber es bildete sich keine ordentliche base. jetzt steht sie bei knapp 60$. dumm gelaufen, aber so ist eben die Börse.

acad sieht momentan tatsächlich heißgelaufen aus. ich denke die Aktie wird korregieren, zu steil ist einfach die Bewegung seit anfang September.

wie gewonnen so zerronnen.
bin wieder raus, mein zum einstiegskurs nachgezogener stopkurs hat gegriffen.
ein Arzt hat sich negativ zum acad-medikament geäußert und der markt reagiert panisch. manche sagen, dass ist eben eine fachmeinung von vielen, aber egal, was zählt ist der kurs und der hat gestern eine eindeutige sprache gesprochen. wenn acad sich wieder erholt bin ich halt nicht mehr dabei. so ist die Börse, aber damit müssen wir leben.
