Miravant to file new drug application for SnET2 for wet macular degeneration

Jan 31, 2003 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- Miravant Medical Technologies has filed its first new drug application for SnET2, a new drug for the treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration. The company`s decision came after analyses of phase III clinical data showed positive results in a significant number of drug-treated patients versus placebo control patients.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of severe vision loss in people over age 50, a degenerative disease that affects the macula (the point on the retina at the back of the eye that enables sharp, straight-ahead central vision. Patients with wet AMD develop a dark shadow in the central field of vision that impairs activities such as reading, driving and recognizing faces.

While the wet form affects only 10 percent of AMD patients, it accounts for 90 percent of the blindness caused by the disease, for which there are few available treatment options. There are approximately 500,000 new cases of wet AMD each year worldwide, with the incidence expected to increase as the population ages.

Miravant`s PhotoPoint SnET2 is a light-activated drug designed to target abnormal blood vessels beneath the macula. By destroying these leaky blood vessels, the retina can potentially return to a more normal architecture.

Pioneering Atherosclerosis Study Presented at
the American College of Cardiology

Miravant Medical Technologies (OTCBB:MRVT), a pharmaceutical
development company specializing in PhotoPoint(TM) photodynamic
therapy (PDT), and Volcano Therapeutics, Laguna Hills, Calif., a
private medical device company, announced today the initial results of
a collaborative research study to explore the diagnosis and treatment
of atherosclerotic vulnerable plaque (VP). The results suggest that
the companies` combined technologies may provide the means to
simultaneously detect and stabilize vulnerable plaque, which causes
60-80% percent of fatal heart attacks. In the preclinical study
conducted at Washington Hospital Center (WHC), Washington D.C.,
Volcano Therapeutics` thermography (heat sensitive) catheter was used
to identify inflamed plaques in artery walls, followed by treatment
with Miravant`s intravascular PhotoPoint PDT. Ron Waksman, M.D.,
Associate Chief of Cardiology, WHC, presented the results this week at
the American College of Cardiology and the VP Symposium, Chicago.
This preliminary study in preclinical atherosclerosis models
provided compelling evidence to support the potential efficacy of the
combined technologies, as follows:

-- Volcano Therapeutics` thermography catheter detected subtle
temperature changes in atherosclerotic plaque, indicative of
vessel wall inflammation that characterizes ruptured
vulnerable plaques or rupture-prone vulnerable plaques.

-- The identified lesions were treated with Miravant`s PhotoPoint
PDT and demonstrated a return to normal temperature at 28 days
post-treatment, a significant finding and indicative of plaque
stabilization since inflammation is associated with elevated
temperature. Untreated control plaques demonstrated sustained
elevated temperature consistent with the presence of
inflammatory cells.

GOLETA, Calif., May 21, 2003 (Santa Barbara News-Press - Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News via COMTEX) -- MIRAVANT LOSES 14 CENTS PER SHARE: Miravant Medical Technologies reported $20,000 in revenue and $581,000 in cash on hand for the quarter ended March 31. The pharmaceutical development company said its net loss for the quarter was $3.4 million or 14 cents per share, compared to a net loss of $4.5 million or 24 cents per share for the same period a year ago.

SACRAMENTO-- UNEMPLOYMENT BILL MOVES TO SENATE: A bill by state Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks, to stop fraudulent unemployment claims was approved 11-0 Monday by the Senate Appropriations Committee and will next be heard on the Senate floor. Senate Bill 962 would require that the Employment Development Department verify an employee`s address and employment status before an unemployment check is issued.

Einkommen, Interesse und anderes Einkommen für das erste Viertel verringerten sich bis $18.000 von $44.000 während der gleichen Periode 2002. Der Reinverlust für das Viertel war $3,7 Million oder $0,15 pro den Anteil, verglichen mit einem Reinverlust $3,6 von Million oder von $0,19 pro Anteil, während der gleichen Periode letztes Jahr. SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 2, 2003--Miravant
Medical Technologies (OTCBB:MRVT), a pharmaceutical development
company specializing in PhotoPoint(R) photodynamic therapy (PDT),
announced today that it has raised $6.0 million through a Convertible
Debt and Warrant Purchase Agreement (Debt Agreement) with a select
group of institutional investors, including SDS Merchant Fund LP,
Versant Capital Management LLC, Symmetry Capital Management LLC and
others. The notes are convertible into Miravant common stock at a
conversion price of $1.00 per share. For every $1,000 invested, the
Company issued one five-year warrant to purchase 750 shares of
Miravant Common Stock at $1.00 per share. Additionally, Pharmacia
Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pfizer Inc., agreed to
retire Miravant`s entire outstanding $10.6 million debt for the
following consideration: $1.0 million plus 390,000 new shares of
common stock and the re-pricing of 360,000 warrants currently held by
Pharmacia.
Miravant will use the remaining $5.0 million for general corporate
purposes, including working capital to prepare the New Drug
Application (NDA) filing planned later this year for drug SnET2, a
potential new treatment for wet age-related macular degeneration
(AMD).
Gary S. Kledzik, Ph.D., chairman and chief executive officer,
