EV Group supports Waseda University on Nanotechnology Research


EV Group (EVG), manufacturer of MEMS and semiconductor wafer processing equipment has shipped and successfully installed a complete product line for nanoimprinting, hot embossing, spray coating and wafer alignment at Waseda University Japan. Waseda University is a key address for micro- and nanoengineernig in Japan and puts now strong emphasis in research on nanotechnology applications.
Hot embossing is known as a low cost and flexible fabrication technique, which has demonstrated polymer high aspect ratio microstructures as well as nanoimprinting patterns. The production-proven EVG520HE hot embossing system from EVG guarantees a high-quality pattern transfer from a stamp to a polymer substrate and produces uniformly imprinted, ultra-fine micrometer or nanometer scale features.

“Such a technique will allow to design new devices for biomedical, BioMEMS, microfluidic or micro-optical application which for example need to deliver ultra small quantities of liquids or light signals”, comments Professer Shoji of Waseda University.
Equipped with a universal embossing chamber, the EVG520HE applies high-contact force conditions, which is a main feature and requirement for the hot embossing process. Capability for processing the whole range of polymers suitable for hot embossing is important in this area.

“Process flexibility and versatility is a main expectation in the equipment”, says Professor Shoji of Waseda University. “The success of our research projects depends on the available infrastructure, which needs to accommodate a multitude of materials and processes. The EVG520HE has shown to be fully compatible with our requirements”.

Another field of activity at Waseda University requires uniform coating of substrate surfaces with high topographies, for example on bulk or surface micromachined structures which show grooves and channels. Spray coating is an advanced feature on EVG’s coating systems and available on the EVG101 coater for Waseda University. EVG’s OmniSpray coating technology is designed to uniformly dispense photoresist or polymers on high topography substrates while delivering better results compared to spin coating. It provides an optimized and cost-saving method by using an atomizer nozzle to produce micron-size droplets for highly uniform layers of resist. As there are no limitations in substrate sizes, small diameters substrates or wafers up to 200 mm can be easily processed.

Süss MicroTec Outperformer
SES Research

Die Analysten von SES Research stufen die Aktie von Süss MicroTec (ISIN DE0007226706/ WKN 722670) mit "Outperformer" ein.

Die heute von Süss MicroTec berichteten endgültigen Zahlen für 2002 würden den Prognosen der Analysten entsprechen. Der bereits berichtete Nettoumsatz habe unverändert bei 127,5 Mio. Euro gelegen. Hierbei sei ein Nettoergebnis von -8,9 Mio. Euro verzeichnet worden, das hiermit bei der Prognose von -9,0 Mio. Euro liege. Der Auftragseingang im 4. Quartal habe mit knapp 22 Mio. Euro der Erwartung entsprochen. Beeinflusst werde das 2002er Ergebnis wesentlich durch Einmalaufwendungen aus Restrukturierungsmaßnahmen und zusätzlichen Abschreibungen auf das Vorratsvermögen.

Für 2003 habe die Gesellschaft eine Umsatzspanne von 100-150 Mio. Euro in Aussicht gestellt. Die bisherige Prognose der Analysten liege mit 130 Mio. Euro innerhalb der angegebenen Range. Auf der Ergebnisseite sei vor dem Hintergrund der erfolgten Restrukturierungsmaßnahmen mit einem besseren Wert als im Vorjahr zu rechnen. Der Break-Even werde bei Erlösen von rund 120 Mio. Euro erwartet. Für das erste Halbjahr sei laut Unternehmen mit einem im Vergleich zum Vorjahr geringen Umsatzniveau zu rechnen.

Diese Einschätzung decke sich mit der Prognose der Analysten. Demzufolge werde sich ein Aufschwung frühestens in der zweiten Jahreshälfte abzeichnen. Auch falls ein Aufschwung der Halbleiterindustrie noch länger auf sich warten lasse und auch Technologiekäufe in stärkerem Maße ausbleiben würden und somit nur das untere Ende der Umsatzspanne erreicht werde, ergebe sich für die Gesellschaft eine Unterbewertung gegenüber dem DCF-Wert.

Insgesamt sehen die Analysten von SES Research daher keinen Anlass ihre Prognosen und das Rating "Outperformer" für die Süss MicroTec-Aktie zu ändern.
