Natural heparin is a complex mixture of carbohydrates which prevents the formation of blood clots and has been widely used in medical procedures since the 1930s. The majority of natural heparin used in the clinic today is extracted from pig intestines. This material has several drawbacks as a pharmaceutical.
Processes have been developed to split natural heparin into lower molecular weight components in order to isolate the active part of natural heparin that produces the anti-thrombotic activity. Low molecular weight heparins ("LMWH") avoid some of the risks associated with natural heparin. In addition LMWH achieves a significant reduction in the frequency of clot formation as compared to natural heparin. The principal LMWH drug, Lovenox®, is produced by Aventis and accounted for approximately 65% of LMWH sales in 2002.
A more recent innovation has been the development of Synthetic Heparin by Organon Sanofi~Synthelabo LLC. Synthetic Heparin has the features responsible for the anti-thrombotic features of Heparin. Their product is marketed under the name Arixtra®. Arixtra® has been shown to reduce the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) following major orthopaedic surgery by more than 50% compared to LMWH. In addition, Synthetic Heparin is a totally synthetic compound and the potential risk of transferral of animal infections to humans is eliminated.
Arixtra® was launched by Organon Sanofi~Synthelabo LLC in Europe in February 2002 and in the US in March 2002. Alchemia believes Organon Sanofi~Synthelabo LLC is conducting the necessary trials to obtain approval for further indications by the end of 2006. Analysts expect that obtaining FDA approval for additional indications will significantly increase the potential market for Arixtra®.
Alchemia has developed and applied to patent a new and efficient process for the preparation of Synthetic Heparin. This process is the culmination of three years of research activity and is now proceeding to cGMP production at Dow. Because this process is a new route to an existing drug, the regulatory requirements in progressing the product to market are shorter than those for a new drug candidate. In the US market, approval is expected to be sought through the ANDA route (Abbreviated New Drug Application), which normally requires a short bioequivalence study rather than lengthy clinical trials.
The Company intends to commercialise Alchemia`s Synthetic Heparin with its partners, The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) and American Pharmaceutical Partners (APP).
Alchemia has formed an alliance with APP to develop and market Synthetic Heparin. APP will be responsible for product formulation, obtaining FDA approval and for marketing the product in North America. Alchemia is entitled to receive contributions to process development efforts, success-based milestone payments and a share of the profits from Synthetic Heparin sales.
In order for APP to obtain FDA approval for Synthetic Heparin, the product must be produced under strict regulatory guidelines. Alchemia is responsible for producing this Synthetic Heparin for APP to enable APP to obtain FDA approval. This will be undertaken at Dow.

Ist nur die Frage, wie sie bis 2008 überleben wollen... da müssen wohl noch einige Shares verkloppt werden, damit Cash in die Kasse kommt.

Während Momenta schon mit über 400mio$ bewertet ist kann man Alchemia für gerade mal 55mio$ haben und besitzen sogar das bessere produkt.
Momenta wurde in den letzten tagen kräftig von DerAktionär gepusht.

Deutsche Bank scheint ziemlich optimistisch zu sein für Momenta Kurzziel 50$.
Der aktuelle Kurs liegt gerade mal bei 16,70$ aber ich sehe gerade vorbörslich steigt die aktie auf 18,80$.

Deutsche Bank scheint ziemlich optimistisch zu sein für Momenta Kurzziel 50$.

ACL16907 is currently in preclinical development in preparation for the filing of an IND (Investigational New Drug) Application with the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is anticipated that the application will be filed early in 2006. Development activities including the CGMP production of the compound, preclinical pharmacology and toxicology testing are underway.
When administered together with current front-line cancer treatment Paclitaxel, Alchemia`s compound resulted in 75% inhibition of tumour growth in an animal model, compared to 42% inhibition observed with the administration of Paclitaxel alone. These results, together with other in-vitro and in-vivo preclinical tests, showed a clear picture of a potent molecule, with drug-like characteristics, including solubility, tolerability and an excellent pharmacokinetic profile.
ACL16907 is subject to patent protection, as are all compounds generated by Alchemia`s proprietary drug discovery technology, VAST™. Ongoing IP protection in relation to use of matter and composition is implemented as required.
The global oncology market generated sales of US$30 billion in 2003 and is forecast to increase by 14.6% by 2008 resulting in sales of $59.3 billion.

Sollten die ergebnisse zu Synthetic Heparin ende September positiv ausfallen steigt die chance auf eine Zulassung von akt.30% auf 70% und das wird auch den kurs weiter beflügeln.
