China Mobile will 49 % an Uzbektelecom erwerben-neues Hoch
Tuesday, 09. Aug 2005, 07:57
Unternehmen: CHINA MOBILE
Peking 09.08.05 (www.emfis.com)

China Mobile H1 profit seen higher
Posted online: Saturday, August 06, 2005 at 0032 hours IST
SHANGHAI, AUG 5: China Mobile (Hong Kong) Ltd, the world’s largest mobile carrier by subscribers, is expected to report first-half profit growth of 15-20% as its strategy of tailoring offerings to different customer niches helps it win market share from China Unicom Ltd.
Smaller foe Unicom, by contrast, is expected to say first-half profits plunged by as much as 19% as it tries to wean itself from handset subsidies used in an unsuccessful effort to snatch business from China Mobile.
Meanwhile, the country’s two main fixed-line carriers, China Telecom Corp and China Netcom Group Corp, are expected to post 7-15% earnings growth when they report interim results in August and September.
Investors, however, remain focused on a potential industry restructuring that has been in the works since 2004, as part of Beijing’s efforts to ease competition and reduce redundant network construction when China rolls out 3G cellular services.
Speculation is rife that the shake-up could see the four big carriers merged into three groups, with Unicom’s two cellular networks split and joined with the two big fixed-line operators.
A restructuring of the four state-run giants is widely expected to be revealed around the end 2005.
“Right now, it looks like speculation on the restructuring is dominating the companies’ share price performance rather than the fundamentals,” said BNP Paribas analyst Marvin Lo. “So I suspect that numbers coming out for the first half of the year will not have any impact on share prices.” China Mobile, set to report its results on Wednesday, has become an investor favourite, rising 22% since the start of 2005. Analysts expect the company to deliver net profit of 22.9 billion yuan ($2.8 billion). Its interim results will include for the first time provincial networks it bought in 2004, from its state-owned parent.
China Telecom, the more conservative of the country’s two big fixed-line operators, is expected to report an interim profit of 12.4 billion yuan, according to the average of three analysts polled by Reuters. Analysts are looking for a 4.2 billion yuan profit at the more outward-looking Netcom, which recently sold a 3% stake to Spain’s Telefonica, and whose state-run parent has bought a 20% stake in former Hong Kong phone monopoly PCCW.
