Was ist los bei Geron?

Im Grunde gibt es eigentlich nichts Neues !
Ein paar alte News wurden aufgewärmt, veröffentlicht und der Kurs steigt unter sehr hohen Umsätzen innerhalb von 20 Tagen um 400 % Warum die Hysterie um Geron auf einmal entstand ist mir bis jetzt ein Rätsel. Liegt es an den vielen Veröffentlichungen die in den letzten Tagen publiziert wurden und die Investoren förmlich paralysiert haben oder ist es ein wirkliches Umdenken das statt gefunden hat, schliesslich hat Geron ja auch etwas zu bieten. Die Frage ist noch nicht eindeutig zu beantworten da der sich jetzt abzeichnende Trend noch viel zu kurz ist.
Aber das Thema Embryonale Stammzellenforschung stand in den letzten Jahren auch nicht unter einem guten Stern. Ich selber war absolut dagegen und habe einen weiten Bogen um Aktien die nit Embryonen forschen gemacht, vielmehr fand ich aber das Thema Stammzellenforschng insgesant sehr interessant und so entschloss ich mich in AASTROM zu investieren, da zum einen Stammzellenforschung aber nicht Embryonal.Ich hatte irgendwie das Gefühl mit Stammzellen kann viel erreicht werden aber wenn schon Stammzellen dann bitte mit adulten und nicht mit embryonalen!! Dieser Standpunkt war für mich sehr wichtig!
Mit der Zeit habe ich aber meine anfängliche Ablehnung geen ESC abgelegt da ich zu der Überzeugung gelangt bin das hier nicht geklont wird um sich selbst zu reproduzieren, sondern das mit der Forschung und vielleicht
Entwicklung möglicher Präperate den Menschen geholfen werden kann und wird!!
Und das ist, so denke ich, ein möglicher Grund warum Geron in der Anlegerschaft auf einmal ganz oben steht. Die Skepsis gegenüber ESC ist in einem längeren Prozess der Ablehnung in einen Prozess des erträglichen umgeschlagen und man erkennt so langsam die Chancen die sich in diesem Gebiet auftun! Der Mensch lehnt erstmal ab, dann erträgt er es und erkennt auf einmal die Vorteile, die etwas mit sich bringen was einem vorher neu und suspekt war hat er es erst einmal angenommen will er nicht mehr darauf verzichten. Genauso (denke Ich) verhält es sich zur Zeit auch mit Geron.

Sicher bin ich mir nicht aber bei mir hat ein Umdenken stattgefunden und vielleicht auch bei anderen!

Geron to Present Preliminary Results of Telomerase Cancer Vaccine Clinical Trial at Duke
Monday April 7, 7:31 am ET


MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 7, 2003--Geron Corporation (Nasdaq:GERN - News) today announced that it will present the positive preliminary results from a Phase 1 clinical trial of telomerase immunotherapy for metastatic prostate cancer on a webcast conference call today, April 7, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time. The data were originally to be presented today at the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR) annual meeting in Toronto, which was cancelled last week due to the outbreak of SARS.

The data to be presented suggest the vaccinations were very well tolerated, without any adverse effects attributable to the treatment. Importantly, vaccination resulted in the generation of an anti-telomerase immune response in almost all patients.

The results were to have been presented today at the AACR annual meeting in Toronto by Johannes Vieweg, M.D., Associate Professor of Urology and Associate Professor of Immunology at Duke University Medical Center. The clinical trial is being conducted under an IND (Investigational New Drug application) submitted by Dr. Vieweg and his colleagues at Duke, and is designed to assess the safety of using telomerase immunotherapy to treat metastatic prostate cancer.

Telomerase immunotherapy takes advantage of the fact that telomerase is abnormally upregulated in most human cancers but is not expressed in most normal adult cells. The goal of cancer immunotherapy is to "teach" the patient`s immune system to attack cancer cells that express telomerase -- while leaving normal cells alone -- by generating cytotoxic T-cells specific for telomerase.

Trial Design

The Duke trial involves an ex vivo vaccine strategy in which dendritic cells (DCs, the most efficient antigen presenting cells) are isolated from the patient`s blood, pulsed with telomerase RNA, and then returned to the patient`s body to instruct cytotoxic T-cells to kill tumor cells that express telomerase. A total of 24 patients will be treated. The trial is divided into two groups: low-dose and high-dose. Patients in the low-dose group received three vaccinations with DCs that were exposed to either telomerase RNA or a modified form of telomerase RNA that contains a LAMP sequence designed to enhance and prolong the anti-telomerase immune response. The high-dose group will receive six vaccinations with DCs that were exposed to either telomerase or LAMP-telomerase RNA.

Trial Preliminary Results

On today`s conference call, David B. Karpf, M.D., Geron`s executive medical director, will present the data on the first 12 patients in the study, who had all received three vaccinations (low-dose group). The vaccinations were very well tolerated, without any adverse effects attributable to the treatment. In addition, seven out of the eight patients who have been immunologically monitored developed telomerase-specific T-cell responses, which indicates that the immunization procedure was successful. Preliminary data from blood samples taken from nine of the patients evaluated at the beginning of the trial showed that seven patients had very high levels of circulating tumor cells. The level of circulating tumor cells fell substantially in all seven of these patients following vaccination, and in two patients the level fell a thousand-fold -- to a level below the detection limit of the assay. The study also showed that, in several patients tested a number of months after their last vaccination, the circulating tumor cells rose back to pre-treatment levels as the telomerase-specific immune response declined.

"Phase 1 is first and foremost an assessment of toxicity," said Dr. Vieweg, the Principal Investigator and head of the trial at Duke, "and it is very reassuring that to date we have not observed any adverse effects due to the telomerase vaccine. Until now, it was an unanswered question -- would telomerase alone, as a `self-antigen,` engender a good immune response in cancer patients, and if it did, would there be any adverse effects on certain activated stem cells that can transiently express telomerase. We found that all but one of the patients developed a strong anti-telomerase immune response, suggesting that telomerase is a surprisingly good antigen using this approach. Additionally, our data suggest this response was further enhanced by the LAMP modification. And to date, no patient has shown any sign of damage to normal tissues.

"The preliminary data from the low-dose patients is very encouraging," continued Dr. Vieweg. "New therapies are urgently needed, especially for patients with metastatic tumors. The telomerase-primed DCs were able to generate a strong telomerase-specific immune response, which in turn appears to have reduced the number of circulating tumor cells in the bloodstream of these patients with metastatic disease. We now want to complete the trial to see if a more durable telomerase immune response can be elicited in patients receiving a greater number of vaccinations. If these results hold up in the high-dose cohort, and the treatment still appears to be very well tolerated, I feel that further clinical trials will clearly be warranted."

Telomerase Immunotherapy Technology

The RNA-pulsed dendritic cell technology Dr. Vieweg used in this trial was developed by Eli Gilboa, Ph.D., and his colleagues at Duke. The trial represents the clinical application of earlier work conducted jointly by Duke and Geron, published in the September 2000 issue of Nature Medicine, the September 2002 issue of Cancer Research, and the March 2003 issue of Cancer Gene Therapy, which demonstrated the utility of using telomerase as an antigen to stimulate an immune response that killed human prostate, renal, melanoma, osteosarcoma and colon tumor cells in vitro, and inhibited the growth of breast, melanoma, and bladder cancer tumors in animals. Those publications, as well as subsequent research, demonstrated that messenger RNA encoding the catalytic reverse transcriptase protein component of human telomerase (hTERT mRNA), when introduced into dendritic cells, can stimulate the immune system to produce cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTLs, or killer T-cells) capable of recognizing and destroying telomerase-positive cancer cells.

Geron reports cancer vaccine safe

WASHINGTON, April 7 (Reuters) - An early try at making a universal cancer vaccine seems to be safe, and shows some indication that it may even work, researchers at Geron Corp. (NasdaqNM:GERN - News) said on Monday.

The first few cancer patients immunized with the vaccine showed no bad reactions and in fact seemed to mount an immune response against their own cancers, the Menlo Park, California-based company said.

The results are very preliminary but suggest the research approach is valid, Geron said in a statement.

Geron shares rose slightly on the news, to $6.70 a share in mid-morning trading.

Geron was scheduled to present its findings at a meeting of the American Association of Cancer Research in Toronto, but the meeting was canceled because of fears about an outbreak of pneumonia known as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.

Many groups are working on cancer vaccines. The body`s immune system sometimes does recognize and destroy cancer cells, but not always.

The idea behind a vaccine is to boost this response. But a big question is what part of a cancer cell can be best used to stimulate the immune system -- especially as doctors do not want to accidentally cause the destruction of healthy cells.

Geron`s approach targets telomerase, a protein that gives cells a kind of immortality. It is important early in life, but seems to be turned off once the body matures.

Cancer cells, however, over-produce telomerase, giving themselves extra-long lives and allowing themselves to proliferate wildly.

Geron`s vaccine uses immune cells known as dendritic cells. They are taken from the patient, spliced with genetic signals from telomerase, and then returned to the patient. The hope is that other immune cells will become primed to destroy anything with extra telomerase.

The first few patients vaccinated this way showed no serious adverse effects, Geron said. It is a Phase I trial meant to show safety, and is only partly finished, the company said.

Apr 07, 2003 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Some scientists see a moratorium in Australia as counter-productive. In 2002, the Australian Government imposed a three-year moratorium on reproductive and therapeutic cloning. In April 2003, some scientists criticised this. Peter Mountford, of Stem Cell Sciences, said that the moratorium is leading some key stem-cell scientists to work offshore. The US bioethicist, Ernle Young, supports this view. Young is a Methodist Minister who sits on an ethics committee at Geron Corporation of the US. He also helped to found the Centre for Biomedical Ethics at Stanford University. He noted that embryonic stem-cells are more favourable for human therapies than other cells. He said that research must pay off commercially or research institutes will not survive.

Geron agrees to sell 4 mln shares for $18.4 mln

NEW YORK, April 8 (Reuters) - Geron Corp. (NasdaqNM:GERN - News), a biotechnology company developing cancer therapies and drugs from stem cells, said on Tuesday it agreed to sell four million shares to two investors for $18.4 million, or $4.60 a share.
The Menlo Park, California-based company said it also issued warrants to purchase an additional 600,000 shares at $6.34 a share. And it holds an option to sell an additional 400,000 shares. Total proceeds from the sales could reach $24 million.

The company did not immediately say how it plans to use the funds. Geron`s shares closed on Monday at $5.51. They fell 51 cents, or 9 percent, to $5.00 on Tuesday in early trading on

Anzhl Aktien neu 29,9 Mio multipliziert mit dem Kurs von
Heute 5,09 Dollar ergibt eine Marktkap. von 152 Mio Dollar

Natürlich ist diese Rechnung nicht ganz ernst zunehmen !!

Immerhin ist der Firma jetzt Geld zugeflossen aber es wird auch nicht die letzte Kapitalerhöhung sein die Altaktionäre nicht mitragen künnen.

Geron shares rose slightly on the news, to $6.70 a share in mid-morning trading.

Geron was scheduled to present its findings at a meeting of the American Association of Cancer Research in Toronto, but the meeting was canceled because of fears about an outbreak of pneumonia known as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.

Many groups are working on cancer vaccines. The body`s immune system sometimes does recognize and destroy cancer cells, but not always.

The idea behind a vaccine is to boost this response. But a big question is what part of a cancer cell can be best used to stimulate the immune system -- especially as doctors do not want to accidentally cause the destruction of healthy cells.

Geron`s approach targets telomerase, a protein that gives cells a kind of immortality. It is important early in life, but seems to be turned off once the body matures.

Cancer cells, however, over-produce telomerase, giving themselves extra-long lives and allowing themselves to proliferate wildly.

Geron`s vaccine uses immune cells known as dendritic cells. They are taken from the patient, spliced with genetic signals from telomerase, and then returned to the patient. The hope is that other immune cells will become primed to destroy anything with extra telomerase.

The first few patients vaccinated this way showed no serious adverse effects, Geron said. It is a Phase I trial meant to show safety, and is only partly finished, the company said.

"Because telomerase is present in all major types of cancer cells, telomerase holds great promise for use in a universal cancer vaccine for the treatment of a broad range of tumor types, either alone or in combination with other antigens, " Dr. Thomas Okarma, Geron`s president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

Der Kurs nähert sich der 4,70 Dollar-Marke . Am Montag habe ich geschrieben der Kurs fällt auf 4 Euro .Am letzten Donnersstag schrieb ich das einen Gegenreaktion eintreten muss, da stand der Kurs noch bei 6,6 Dollar und der Chart hat es förmlich herbei gebetet das die Aktie in eine Korrekturphase eintreten muss. Nun bin ich der Meinung das sich die Korrektur dem Ende neigt. Morgen und übermorgen kann man noch mal einsammeln bevor es dann nächste Woche wieder nach oben gehen sollte.An den fundamentalen Daten hat sich in der kurzen Zeit natürlich nicht viel geändert. Die Firma hat ein bisschen Geld eingesammelt was sie auch in Zukunft weiter machen wird da sie einfach Geld benötigt Der Aktienkurs wird sich weiter verwässern aber je höher der Kurs umso niedriger die Verwässerung !! Die Ergebnisse der Studie waren in Ordnung soweit ich das beurteilen kann.Es waren Ergebnisse einer LOW Infusion Therapie eine zweite Studie mit 12 Patienten die die doppeltlte Anzahl an Infusionen bekam, steht noch aus. Die Ergebnisse werden mit Sicherheit noch besser ausfallen!! Wichtig ist das KEINE NEBENWIRKUNGEN festgestellt wurden was bedeuten kann das in der dritten Phase des Zulassungsverfahren eventuell ein Fast Track seitens der FDA ausgesprochen wird. Das bedeutet das ein Zulassungsverfahren in der USA sich verkürzen würde was nicht nur Geld spart sondern auch früher als normal Einnahmen generieren würde!!!Insgesamt bleibt Geron das für mich interessanteste und vielversprechenste Unternehmen in der gesamten Biotech- branche . Ich verweise hier nochmals auf eine Studie des Biotech -world aus dem November 2002. Soleid es mir tut Empfehlungen hinsichtlich halten, kaufen, verkaufen, sollte jeder für sich beantworten, da das Anlegerverhalten, sprich Risikobereitschaft bei jeden unterschiedliche Ausprägungen besitzt. Für kurzfristige Zockereien ist diese Aktie auch denkbar schlecht, da bei Biotechaktien andere Bewertungskriterien vorzufinden sind als sonst bei Aktien üblich. Wenn man nit Geron spekuliert, sollte es mit Geld sein auf das man nicht angewiesen ist und es auch nicht andersweitig einsetzen will.
Ich für meinen Teil versuche auch nicht irgendwelche Trends auszunutzen und kalkuliere auch einen Totalverlust ein!! Mein Anlagehorizont für diese Aktie beträgt 5-10 Jahre und je nach Stand der Entwicklung, kaufe ich mir dann auch immermal ein paar Aktien, dazu!
Geron macht in meinem Depot ein Volumen von 20% aus und diesen Wert werde ich auch nicht wesentlich erhöhen!!
Wie es in 2 Wochen aussieht, dass lässt sich schwer vorhersagen, da die Kapitalerhöhung bei den Anlegern nicht gut ankam Durch das lancieren z. Teil mit alten News wurde der Kurs nach oben getrieben und der Eindruck entstand als wäre dies vom Management bewusst herbeigeführt worden.

Mich hat dies aber nicht gestört, da Geron Geld zugeführt wurde, was sie aufgrund der intensiven Forschung, die die Firma betreibt auch bitter nötig hat!

jetzt habe ich mir doch heute auch GERN ins Depot gelegt.
Nach den Gewinnmitnahmen der letzten Tage, hoffe ich nun einen guten Einstieg gefunden zu haben.

Die Arbeit von GERN könnte bei Erfolg die gesamte Medizin revolutionieren. Aber auch das hohe Risiko sollte jedem bewußt sein.

Was Erfolgserlebnisse bei klinischen Testreihen angeht, lieferte die letzte Augustwoche einen vielversprechenden Start. Ein Kursfeuerwerk legten die Papiere von Geron hin, nachdem das Unternehmen ein Patent auf ein Enzym zur Krebstherapie erhalten hatte.

Wer unter den SmallCaps nach möglichen Outperformern der Zukunft sucht, sollte die Biotechschmiede aus dem kalifornischen Menlo Park im Auge behalten. Um es klar zu machen: Geron erwirtschaftet noch keine nennenswerten Umsätze und schreibt tiefrote Zahlen. Außerdem befindet sich gerade einmal ein Produkt in der klinischen Phase I, in der das Risiko des Scheiterns zwischen 80 und 90 Prozent liegt.

Dennoch könnte die auf Krebs- und Stammzellenforschung spezialisierte Gesellschaft in diesem Jahrzehnt von sich reden machen. Das Zauberwort heißt Telomerase-Hemmer. Aus Patienten entnommene Immunzellen werden mit dem Enzym Telomerase versetzt und darauf programmiert, die Telomerase-haltigen Krebszellen auszuschalten.

Damit kehrt Geron den zerstörerischen Wirkungsmechanismus von Telomerase um. Dieser spielt eine entscheidende Rolle beim Wachstum aller größeren Tumorarten, indem er das Altern und damit das Absterben der Krebszellen verhindert. Zu allem Überfluss fördert Telomerase die Resistenz der Tumorzellen gegen toxische Substanzen, wie sie in herkömmlichen Krebstherapien vorkommen.

Der Wirkstoff GRN-163 wird in der klinischen Phase I an Patienten mit Prostatakrebs getestet, gegen drei weitere Krebsarten laufen vorklinische Testreihen. Geron-Vorstandschef Thomas B. Okarna lehnt sich weit aus dem Fenster: Weil der Telomerase-Hemmer bei allen Krebsarten auf dieselbe Weise wirke, eigne er sich als Tumor-Impfstoff.

Wird diese Vision Realität, hätte Gerons Telomerase-Hemmer Milliarden-Potenzial. Aber erst bei Erfolgen in der klinischen Phase II dürften sich Interessenten aus der Pharmabranche finden, die GRN-163 gegen entsprechende Gebühren und Umsatzbeteiligungen einlizenzieren. Bis dahin bleibt die Geron-Aktie in der Hopp-oder-Top-Kategorie.

Wer noch keine Aktien der Geron Incorporation (ISIN US3741631036/ WKN 902213 ) im Depot hat, sollte nach Meinung der Experten vom Börsenbrief "Hot Stocks Investor" unbedingt einige Papiere ordern.

Die Bekanntgabe sehr vielversprechender Resultate in klinischen Tests für die TELOMERASE-Krebsimpfung habe den Kurs um satte 90% ansteigen lassen.

In nahezu allen Krebsarten werde das Protein Telomerase in den Krebszellen aktiviert. Gute Chancen also, dass die Klage von Infigen gegen Geron abgewiesen werde.

Geron-Wissenschaftlern sei es gelungen, aus humanen, embryonalen Stamm-Zellen, so genannte Hepatozyten zu züchten. Dabei handle es sich um basis-funktionale Zellen der menschlichen Leber. Die von diese Zellen produzierten Enzyme könnten für Labortests eingesetzt werden, die vorab gute Anhalts-Punkte dafür geben würden, ob ein Wirkstoff bei einem Einsatz im Menschen von der Leber verarbeitet werden könne oder toxisch wirke. Dies könnte ein Meilenstein in der Pharmaforschung bilden, denn bislang sei die Lebertoxizität ein Kernproblem bei der Wirkstoffentwicklung gewesen.

Die Aktien würden ihr Kurspotential völlig unabhängig von Gesamtmarktumfeld ausspielen. Noch nicht investierte Anleger sollten sich einige Geron-Aktien ins Depot legen, dies empfehlen die Experten von "Hot Stocks Investor".
