GTC Biotherapeutics is the leader in the development, production, and commercialization of therapeutic proteins through transgenic animal technology. In addition, most of the external programs have established a founder animal for a potential commercial herd. GTC is in discussions with several of its current external partners for moving programs to the next stage of development. Under an expansion of the on going agreement with Centocor, GTC is moving ahead into the next stage of preclinical production for an undisclosed protein.
GTC continues multiple discussions with potential new partners in its internal and external programs, as well as licensing discussions for the utilization of its intellectual property and know-how. While there is potential to announce one or more agreements before the end of 2003 as originally forecasted in both the internal and external programs, these discussions may not be concluded before 2004. Primarily as a result of the timing for these new partnering and licensing programs, GTC now expects to have approximately $10 million of revenues for 2003, rather than the $15 million to $20 million range that was originally forecasted approximately one year ago. GTC`s projection of cash utilization for 2003 is approximately $27 million. Excluding the impact of the equity financing, and the conclusion of the ongoing partnering discussions, the 2003 operating and capital cash burn is projected at approximately $35 million compared with the $20 million to $25 million originally forecasted about one year ago. Completion of partnering and out-licensing agreements under discussion could bring significant additional cash in the form of up-front licensing payments. GTC anticipates that its current cash resources and potential future cash compensation are sufficient to fund its operations into 2005, when the rhATIII product may be approved and commercial sales are initiated in Europe.

"GTC Biotherapeutics Submits a European Market Authorization Application for ATryn[
FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 26, 2004--GTC Biotherapeutics, Inc. ("GTC", Nasdaq: GTCB) announced today the submission of a Market Authorization Application (MAA) to the European Medicines Evaluation Agency (EMEA) for ATryn®, its recombinant human antithrombin product. This application seeks review through the centralized European procedure for approval to market ATryn® for the treatment of patients with hereditary antithrombin deficiency (HD). The indication for ATryn® in HD patients is for prophylaxis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and thromboembolism in clinical risk situations such as surgical procedures or during labor and delivery.
"The submission of this MAA is not only GTC`s first submission requesting approval of a product, it is also the first application submitted by any company to any regulatory authority in either the US or Europe requesting review and approval of a recombinant therapeutic protein produced using transgenic technology," stated Geoffrey F. Cox, Ph.D., GTC`s Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Cox continued; "Based on what we have seen in our clinical study, we believe this submission represents a milestone event for GTC as we begin to focus on commercialization of products. ATryn® is a well-characterized recombinant product that has the potential to ensure a continuous supply when constraints occur with antithrombin that is derived from human blood."
GTC recently completed enrollment in a multinational safety and efficacy study of ATryn® in the HD indication. Following communications with the EMEA, the data from the first ten patients enrolled into this trial has been analyzed and included in the MAA. Other clinical data discussed with the EMEA and prepared in support of this application include results from five patients treated under the compassionate use program in the United States. GTC anticipates presenting clinical data from the multinational safety and efficacy study on February 27 at the German Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis meeting in Hamburg, Germany.
The clinical study was conducted in accordance with scientific advice received from the EMEA and evaluated the safety and efficacy of ATryn® in HD patients in clinical high risk situations. The study included serial duplex ultrasound scans of the lower extremities to monitor for the development of DVT. Other techniques were employed, as clinically appropriate, to monitor for the development of thromboemboli.
Patients with HD are prone to developing DVT or thromboemboli, especially during high-risk medical procedures. These patients are normally treated with an orally available anticoagulant. However, this maintenance therapy often must be discontinued during events such as childbirth or surgery to reduce the risks of excessive bleeding or because these anticoagulants are contra-indicated. Currently, human plasma derived antithrombin is often given to cover the period of high risk for the development of DVT.
Antithrombin is a plasma protein with anticoagulant and anti-inflammatory properties. GTC expresses this protein in the milk of goats that have the human antithrombin gene linked to a milk-protein promoting gene. This transgenic approach provides the opportunity to produce recombinant forms of proteins, such as antithrombin, that are difficult to express in conventional production methods.

("GTC", Nasdaq: GTCB) announced today the submission of a Market Authorization Application (MAA) to the European Medicines Evaluation Agency (EMEA) for ATryn®, its recombinant human antithrombin product. This application seeks review through the centralized European procedure for approval to market ATryn® for the treatment of patients with hereditary antithrombin deficiency (HD). The indication for ATryn® in HD patients is for prophylaxis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and thromboembolism in clinical risk situations such as surgical procedures or during labor and delivery.
"The submission of this MAA is not only GTC`s first submission requesting approval of a product, it is also the first application submitted by any company to any regulatory authority in either the US or Europe requesting review and approval of a recombinant therapeutic protein produced using transgenic technology," stated Geoffrey F. Cox, Ph.D., GTC`s Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Cox continued; "Based on what we have seen in our clinical study, we believe this submission represents a milestone event for GTC as we begin to focus on commercialization of products. ATryn® is a well-characterized recombinant product that has the potential to ensure a continuous supply when constraints occur with antithrombin that is derived from human blood."
GTC recently completed enrollment in a multinational safety and efficacy study of ATryn® in the HD indication. Following communications with the EMEA, the data from the first ten patients enrolled into this trial has been analyzed and included in the MAA. Other clinical data discussed with the EMEA and prepared in support of this application include results from five patients treated under the compassionate use program in the United States. GTC anticipates presenting clinical data from the multinational safety and efficacy study on February 27 at the German Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis meeting in Hamburg, Germany.
The clinical study was conducted in accordance with scientific advice received from the EMEA and evaluated the safety and efficacy of ATryn® in HD patients in clinical high risk situations. The study included serial duplex ultrasound scans of the lower extremities to monitor for the development of DVT. Other techniques were employed, as clinically appropriate, to monitor for the development of thromboemboli.
Patients with HD are prone to developing DVT or thromboemboli, especially during high-risk medical procedures. These patients are normally treated with an orally available anticoagulant. However, this maintenance therapy often must be discontinued during events such as childbirth or surgery to reduce the risks of excessive bleeding or because these anticoagulants are contra-indicated. Currently, human plasma derived antithrombin is often given to cover the period of high risk for the development of DVT.
Antithrombin is a plasma protein with anticoagulant and anti-inflammatory properties. GTC expresses this protein in the milk of goats that have the human antithrombin gene linked to a milk-protein promoting gene. This transgenic approach provides the opportunity to produce recombinant forms of proteins, such as antithrombin, that are difficult to express in conventional production methods.

Was ich Deinem Beitrag entnehme ist, Du vermißt eine
lebhafte Diskussion. Die findet nicht statt. Leider!
Dennoch halte ich seit Monaten gerade diese Aktie als
aussichtsreichen Biotech-Wert. Einige schauen offenbar

Hab vor einigen Wochen zugegriffen, ist ja derzeit geradezu jämmerlich bewertet. Sie sind auf der BIO 2004 vertreten, vielleicht gibt es Neuigkeiten zur Zulassung von ATRYN in Europa.
Außerdem wurde auf der Hauptversammlung anscheinend von einer Einigung mit der FDA zwecks des Protokolls für eine Phase III in den USA gesprochen.
Hab ich wirklich noch nie erlebt das ein Biotech-Unternehmen mit revolutionärem Forschungsansatz, erfolgreicher Phase III (in Europa) und 35 Millionen in Cash für einige Zeit mit gerade mal 65 Millionen Dollar bewertet wird, aber heute scheint die Korrektur zu beginnen.
