      Cramer`s Callers
In response to a question about Salesforce.com (CRM:NYSE - commentary - research - Cramer`s Take), Cramer said the stock is "liked but not loved" on Wall Street. It`s also not cheap, but it has "incredible growth" at 45% a year, he said. Cramer believes Salesforce is "taking it to Oracle (ORCL:Nasdaq - commentary - research - Cramer`s Take) and Microsoft (MSFT:Nasdaq - commentary - research - Cramer`s Take)."

Salesforce targets big companies with new product
      Mon Dec 12, 2005 08:01 AM ET
      By Michael Kahn

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec 12 (Reuters) - Salesforce.com Inc. (CRM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) unveiled a new product on Monday to let customers test and fine-tune whether Web-based software is ready to run in businesses as it challenges larger rivals Oracle and SAP.

The Salesforce Sandbox, scheduled as part of the coming Winter `06 release, also will complement the company`s eBay-like AppExchange where customers can buy and sell applications, the company said.

"You can build in the Sandbox and then deploy when ready," Salesforce.com Chief Executive Marc Benioff told Reuters. "It will make it much easier to try out new applications."

The new product gives customers access to Salesforce`s database and development tools to create a separate area for modifying and testing changes they make to the San Francisco-based company`s Web-based application.

Sheryl Kingstone, an analyst at the Yankee Group, said the product caters to larger customers who have demanded something like Sandbox to run the same kinds of tests conducted on traditional business software installed on individual computers.

Salesforce has seen dramatic growth as more companies turn to Web-based software that for many businesses is easier to maintain and more effective because it can be accessed from anywhere.

The company`s stock price has more than doubled since the start of the year, while Oracle shares have lost nearly 9 percent and SAP shares traded on the New York Stock Exchange have risen about 4 percent.

TAKING SOFTWARE FOR A TEST DRIVE

"Companies are demanding the test environment they had in the traditional environment," she said. "IT (Information Technology) departments are not comfortable with going live with an application before they test it."

With Sandbox, an administrator can create a complete copy of a company`s production database in a single click to create a separate virtual sandbox to test, configure or train new users, Salesforce said.

Customers also can choose to either have all their corporate data and configurations for simulation in the sandbox or purchase a simpler version that does not include a copy of production data.

Salesforce is seeking to better challenge Oracle Corp. (ORCL.O: Quote, Profile, Research) and SAP AG (SAPG.DE: Quote, Profile, Research) and fend off Microsoft Corp.(MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) , which is making a push into the market for software that helps businesses track sales leads and manage customer relationships.

Such applications are known as customer relationship management, or CRM, software.

Salesforce sees Sandbox as helping to do this in part by boosting demand for its AppExchange that lets customers build and share software with other Salesforce users.

The eBay-like service is part of the company`s bid to tap the creativity of its customers to transform Salesforce software into a broad-based "platform" that companies can build on, much like Microsoft`s Windows program.

Salesforce.com`s New Salesforce Sandbox to Revolutionize and Accelerate Adoption of On-Demand Applications across the Enterprise
Monday December 12, 8:55 am ET
Salesforce Sandbox Optimizes the Power of AppExchange; Gives Companies Freedom To Evaluate, Experience or Build Any Number of On-Demand Business Applications in Full Production Test Environment
Salesforce Sandbox Provides `One-Click` Access to Create Fully Replicated, Highly Scalable On-Demand Customer Replica Environment for Customization, Integration, Testing, Development and Training Purposes

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM - News), the technology and market leader in on-demand customer relationship management (CRM), today announced Salesforce Sandbox, a new service that will provide customers a replica of their existing Salesforce deployment for streamlining the process of customizing, building and deploying new on-demand applications to enable them to manage and share information on-demand across their entire enterprise.

As the salesforce.com AppExchange has ushered in a new era of creativity, freedom and choice for customers, Salesforce Sandbox will help businesses take advantage of this opportunity to evaluate and implement brand new on-demand applications. Salesforce Sandbox will provide businesses "one-click" access to a fully replicated, on-demand production environment for customization, integration, testing, development and training purposes. Customers will be able to use Salesforce Sandbox to ensure success before deploying new on-demand applications into their live production environment. For example, Salesforce Sandbox will give enterprises the ability to test new applications installed from the AppExchange, evaluate new customizations or features before rolling them out to users, build a development environment for integration testing, or create a safe training environment for employees.

"Salesforce Sandbox will let our customers take full advantage of the AppExchange," said Marc Benioff, Chairman and CEO, salesforce.com. "With the AppExchange community and customer innovation driving incredible growth in new on-demand applications, companies are in turn requiring a more complete environment to drive on-demand success across their entire organizations. With a single click, Salesforce Sandbox will give customers the ability to deploy any number of new on-demand applications with confidence, whether they came from the AppExchange or were developed internally."

AppExchange is the world`s first on-demand application sharing service. Announced at Dreamforce `05, the directory features 85 pre-built applications created by salesforce.com customers and partners. With AppExchange, companies are able to easily add new applications to their existing Salesforce deployments, extending their success and making the full power and creativity of the salesforce.com customer and partner community available with just a click. AppExchange can be found at www.salesforce.com/appexchange.

With the explosion of on-demand applications, IT managers need a means to extend on-demand success from CRM to the rest of their business. As enterprises desire to implement additional on-demand business applications via the AppExchange across finance, IT, human resources, legal, R&D and other departments, Salesforce Sandbox will deliver peace of mind for IT managers as they leverage the innovative community of salesforce.com customers, developers and partners to ensure that other areas of the enterprise can share in on-demand success.

"With Salesforce Sandbox, we benefit from being able to develop faster, thanks to a safe and cost-effective environment," said Tomoko Prokai, Sales Operations Manager, DoubleClick. "Salesforce Sandbox helps advance our CRM deployment with speed and success."

"The Sandbox release is an important tool for big kids," said Denis Pombriant, managing principal, Beagle Research Group. "Professional IT groups will appreciate the ability that the Sandbox release provides to separate production usage and development activities to two different environments. With the Salesforce Sandbox, IT professionals will be able to accelerate deployment of their on-demand applications into the enterprise. More importantly, this raises the bar for on demand enterprise computing. In the immediate future all on-demand enterprise solutions will be judged by whether or not they have this capability."

Features of the Salesforce Sandbox include:

      -- Production Database Copy
With a single click, an administrator will be able to create a complete
copy of the organization`s production database -- all data and
customizations will be re-created in a completely separate sandbox
environment that can be used for configuration change testing,
integration testing, or new user training.

      -- Periodic Refresh
Sandboxes will be able to be deleted and refreshed as needed, giving IT
managers control over refresh initiation and automation. Refreshing
will keep the sandbox in sync with any changes or updates made to the
      production environment.

      -- Configuration-Only Salesforce Sandbox
Companies will be able to elect to have all their corporate data and
configurations modeled in the sandbox environment, or deploy a
configuration-only version that will not include any production data.

      Pricing and Availability

Salesforce Sandbox will be available as an additional option for Enterprise Edition customers for $25 per month per existing Enterprise Edition user. Customers also have the option of purchasing the configuration-only version, without data, for $18 per month per existing Enterprise Edition user. Salesforce Sandbox will be part of the release of Winter `06, which is currently scheduled for later in the company`s fourth quarter.
