Antwort auf Beitrag Nr.: 22.819.473 von Ceypix am 20.07.06 22:24:41@ BUGGI: Hier noch einmal schwarz auf weiß von AMD:
Second quarter sales were down from the prior quarter primarily due to the challenging pricing environment for high-volume desktop processors which negatively impacted average selling prices (ASPs).
Wer versteht jetzt was nicht richtig?

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 20, 2006--AMD (NYSE:AMD - News) today reported sales of $1.22 billion, operating income of $102 million, and net income of $89 million, or $0.18 per share, for the quarter ended July 2, 2006. These results include $18 million of employee stock-based compensation expense and a net gain of $10 million associated with Spansion LLC.'s repurchase of its 12.75 percent senior subordinated notes.
Mein Kommentare zu Intels CC - Teil 3:
Krass:
"...Chris Danely - JP Morgan
Okay. Just to follow with that, Paul, you said you want to keep the fabs full. Have you guys lowered utilization rates at all, or do you plan on lowering utilization rates?
...
...
Paul Otellini
No, the factories are still operating, for the most part, at full capacity.
..."
"...
Chris Danely - JP Morgan
Okay. So let's just say sales are a little bit lower than expected this quarter, you…
Paul Otellini
Then we might have to -- then one of the options we have is to take down wafer starts a bit, but right now, none of our projections show that.
Chris Danely - JP Morgan
I guess I am just wondering, given what has happened the last couple of quarters, why aren't you guys a little more conservative on your guidance and inventory?
Andy Bryant
You mean why aren’t we forecasting it to grow more? ..."

machen.

Teil 2: Q&A von Intels gestrigem CC:
Otellini:
"...We have a fairly high market segment share in mobile chipsets anyway, so I think that one is a good leading indicator on where the notebook business is going, in terms of what you see..."
Hohe Margen ziehen Konkurrenten an...
"...In terms of inventory levels...
...A third element is in the second quarter, my mix was a little lower so I had a little more dual-core content in inventory, so it is a little higher...
...So overall, expect a little increase in the third quarter, but I do not think it is a big increase...
...I would expect a slight increase in the third quarter, a slight decrease in the fourth..."
"...
Joe Osha - Merrill Lynch
Okay. Second question, as I look at the timing and the mix of your ramp, it seems to me like an awful lot of this inventory addition has got to be dual-core Pentium D, right? Which is the expensive-to-manufacture part that you are going to sell and then end-of-life over the next couple of quarters, right?
Andy Bryant
Some of it is, yes. There was an increase in inventory of that product..."
Aua!!!
"...
Joe Osha - Merrill Lynch
Okay...
...I see your SG&A and your R&D falling off in Q4. As I think of 2007, how should I think about the run rates for those operating expense lines?
Andy Bryant
I would think they are going down again, as Paul -- it is going to be hard for me to give you a magnitude. As Paul said, we are going through efficiency project evaluations now. We would be very disappointed not to see a significant dollar savings as we get into next year, but I really would like to finish that project before I give you a number.
Joe Osha - Merrill Lynch
Just to clarify, down from the Q4 run rate, or down '07 on '06? The numbers, as I look at that Q4 run rate, are you saying that it goes down from there?
Andy Bryant
Again, since we are not done with the work yet, I am giving you a bias that I do not have studied numbers behind, okay? My belief is it is down from the Q4 run rate and down year over year, both.
..."
Wie bitte? Bryant hat anscheinend keine klare Sicht...

Hallo AMDler,
Looks like more AMD-based Dell products are coming in Q4
Well finally. After literally years of market speculation but no real confirmation,
our team’s checks have confirmed that Dell is likely to launch AMD-based desktop
and notebook PCs. Based on the information we have, the launch will likely be in
the fourth quarter of the year. Although if we’re correct, we wouldn’t be surprised
to see AMD talk about the products on its upcoming earnings call. Our colleague
Tony Tseng indicates that the desktop products are likely to come from Taiwanbased
ODM Mitac. Quanta is the most likely partner on the notebook side,
although confirmation of that development has been more difficult.
Desktop move makes sense – we’re a little more surprised
that Dell is contemplating AMD-based notebooks
Certainly a broader relationship with Dell would be good news with AMD, and
AMD’s decent long-term prospects are part of why we recently upgraded the
stock from Sell to Neutral despite a tough near-term financial picture. AMD is
competitive with Intel in the desktop market, though no longer decisively ahead
now that Intel’s new products are coming to market. It makes perfect sense for
Dell to broaden its desktop product line on that basis. We’ve written previously
that we don’t regard AMD’s notebook processor lineup as competitive with Intel’s,
and that is not likely to change until AMD gets its updated mobile architecture up
and running on 65nm manufacturing in mid 2007. We’re a little surprised that Dell
would be willing to use AMD mobile processors anyway, and we would expect
any AMD-based Dell products to be confined to the large form factor desknote
market. Dell has, of course, already announced AMD-based servers.
Good news for AMD, to be sure – should help compensate
for tough near-term financial picture
It would be a mistake to conclude that a broader Dell relationship dramatically
changes the picture for AMD. AMD has been taking share this year on the
strength of better products, and some of that progress has clearly come at Dell’s
expense. To the extent that AMD-based products help Dell recover, some of the
gains would likely come at the expense of other AMD-based products. On the
other hand, it’s true that access to Dell’s channel could give AMD a shot at
enterprise client business that it hasn’t had until now. AMD’s tough near-term
prospects but solid long-term story balance out, at least for now – we’re Neutral
on the stock and expect it to trade sideways for the intermediate term.

"...In April, I said that the second quarter would be a time to work with our customers on inventory levels and prepare to launch a new generation of microprocessors. We achieved those objectives during Q2 and are well positioned for the second half..."
Wie bitte? Was plappert der da? War das Ziel etwa weiter steigendes Inventory?
"...We believe we lost a bit of microprocessor market segment share on a billings basis, but we gained a bit of a share on a consumption basis adjusting for inventory reductions..."
"...In June, we initiated a major transition to the new core micro-architecture. We launched Woodcrest...
...For multiprocessor servers, we pulled in the Tulsa processor launch by two quarters to Q3, and have begun shipping that product for revenue...
...we notified customers that we are pulling in both a desktop and a server version of our first quad-core processors into the fourth quarter of this year from the first half of 2007..."
"...Both Conroe and Merom have now qualified and have shipped for revenue. Each is approximately one month ahead of the schedules that we laid out in our analyst meeting in April,.."
"...In total, we have shipped 5 new dual-core microprocessors in the last 30 days..."
Wie bitte? Fünf NGA-CPUs wurden bisher ausgeliefert
Andy Bryant:
"...With these actions and attrition, we expect the number of employees to be below 100,000 by the end of the year..."
Hoppla, sind etwa keine weiteren Entlassungen geplant? Will man tatsächlich diesen hohen Stand halten?
"...On the balance sheet, inventories of $4.3 billion were up over $750 million from the first quarter, as we ramp production of microprocessors on a 65-nanometer process and produced associated chipsets.
The Conroe microprocessor qualified for production during the quarter and contributed to higher inventories..."
"...Higher microprocessor unit costs, as we ramp production of the Dual-core product, and some erosion in average selling prices will lower gross margin percentage, while higher unit volumes will partially offset the decrease..."
Na also, man gibt es ja schon andeutungsweise zu
Und das ist starker Tobak:
"...We expect gross margin percentage for the year to be 51%, plus or minus a few points..."
"...In summary, we look ahead to our business improving in the second half, with outstanding new products and seasonal growth..."
Versteht Bryant unter schrumpfenden Gewinnen "improving business"?
...to be continued...(nächster Teil zur Q&A folgt später!)
