      Hallo TCG-Gemeinde,

      HOLIDAY BARGAIN BONANZA

The European currency’s troubled times means their breaks will be markedly cheaper than a year ago

THE slump in the euro has turned into welcome news for hard-pressed Britons planning to take holidays abroad this summer.
The European currency’s troubled times means their breaks will be markedly cheaper than a year ago.
Last night currency specialist Travelex reported that someone changing £500 into euros will get the equivalent of nearly £50 more in the single currency than this time last year.
Travelex spokesman David Swann said: “With the Easter peak over, now is a great time for Britons to grab a bargain in Europe.”
USA trips will also be cheaper because sterling is also riding high against the dollar as well as a number of other non-eurozone currencies.
Sterling is now worth €1.22, its highest level since September 2010. This time last year it would have fetched only €1.102.

There is still plenty of time to cash in on May bank holiday trips and those planning European visits later in the year can look forward to even bigger bargains because the euro is expected to fall even further in the coming months.
Currency experts say the tumbling euro reflects the loss of confidence brought on by the continuing debt crisis now threatening the economies of several countries and governments’ inability to get to grips with the situation.
Alex Lawson at Moneycorp said: “There’s a good chance the pound could rise further against the euro over the next month or two, which will help people’s holiday money go further.
“While a temporary and uneasy truce has been declared in the eurozone debt crisis, the single currency still looks fragile and could easily fall further.
“If you have the cash available, now is a good time to buy your holiday euros but there could be an even better time just down the line,” he said.

“A smart strategy would be to buy some of your euros now and buy the rest closer to your departure. That way you’ll get some at a good rate and may get the rest at a brilliant rate.”
Sterling has climbed to a six-month high against the dollar, with a pound now worth $1.612, compared with $1.5806 last November, making trips to popular destinations such as Florida, New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas more affordable.
Other popular destinations are also becoming noticeably cheaper.
Andrew Brown, head of travel money at the Post Office, said that sterling had also climbed in value against the currencies of other European countries such as Turkey, Croatia, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
People visiting Turkey for some spring sunshine, for example, will receive 13 per cent more Turkish lira for their pounds, while tourists on a city break to Budapest can expect a heart- warming 20 per cent more cash.
Mr Brown said: “Exchange rates can make a big difference to overall holiday costs so the strengthening of the UK pound against the euro and other European currencies is good news.”

However, he warned against leaving things till the last minute, adding: “People who leave it late and change money at the airport will get a poor rate.”

James Martin’s in-flight meals for Thomas Cook Airlines will launch on 1 May

      Friday 20 April 2012 17:40

Celebrity chef James Martin is to launch his new range of in-flight meals for Thomas Cook Airlines on 1 May.

The BBC1 Saturday Kitchen host has developed a menu for the airline featuring traditional dishes such as bacon and eggs for breakfast, slow-braised British beef with baby onions and herb dumplings for dinner and bourbon vanilla and ginger cheesecake for dessert. There will also be special menus for vegetarians, children and special dietary requirements.

Martin is not the first celebrity chef to tackle airline food: in fact he's the latest in a long line of chefs, following in the footsteps of Heston Blumenthal and Simon Hulstone, who took on British Airways' menus, Gordon Ramsay, who advised Singapore Airlines, and Joël Robuchon who worked on Air France's mile-high food offer.:lick:

Tunisia: Tunisair, Thomas Cook sign partnership agreement

      AfricanManager

National flag carrier Tunisair, Thursday, signed a partnership agreement with Belgian tour operator, Thomas Cook.

The agreement provides for building “privileged cooperation relations” between the two companies on regular flights and charters, as well as organizing several joint promotional activities to promote the destination of Tunisia in Europe.

Mr. Rabah Jerad, CEO of Tunisair, said it is the second cooperation agreement (2012-2015), signed with the TO, while hoping that Thomas Cook "will do its best to attract as many visitors from Belgium and Europe to Tunisia."

To do so, he said, Thomas Cook will showcase a real image of post-Revolution Tunisia, away from rumors about the country's instability.

"Demonstrations and protests exist in all democratic countries," he said, suggesting that the Belgian officials tour the sights in Tunisia, to "ensure that tourists can enjoy exceptional stay conditions in Tunisia."

Mr. Johan Ysenbrandt, CEO of Thomas Cook, said that "from a total of 70 destinations served by the TO, Tunisia, is placed fourth after Turkey, Greece and Spain."
