CLARIFICATION OF GRANGE RESOURCES’ IRON ORE OFFTAKE TO BLUESCOPE STEEL ANNOUNCEMENT ON 23 AUGUST 2011
http://www.grangeresources.com.au/clients/grange/downloads/i…
Grange Resources Limited (Grange or the Company), Australia’s leading magnetite producer, yesterday confirmed that it has a contract with BlueScope Steel for the delivery of 800,000 tonnes of iron ore pellets in the year 1st July 2011 to 30th June 2012 from its Savage River operations.
On 22nd August 2011, BlueScope Steel advised the market that it planned to shut down its No.6 blast furnace at Port Kembla, with overall steel production to reduce to 2.6 million tonnes per annum from early October, 2011.
Grange has advised it is working with BlueScope to assess the impact of BlueScope’s planned production changes on its requirements for Savage River Pellets from October 2011 to June 2012. Grange advised this may include assistance for “onselling” a portion of remaining contracted offtake that BlueScope may determine is not required for its steel making at Port Kembla.
Grange advises that it does not expect to suffer any financial loss as a result of BlueScope determining its revised requirements, and potentially on-selling offtake to other customers. Grange’s contract with BlueScope is fixed term with a pricing mechanism that has previously been agreed. Grange is confident that the contract terms will be met by BlueScope.

A major row is threatening to break out between the head of the WA National Party and the boss of Grange Resources over supply of power to the emerging iron ore miner's Southdown project.
In a development that could push the timeframe for the planned magnetite $2.5 billion mine at Wellstead back years, Nationals' leader Brendon Grylls said it was his "strong preference" for Grange to be the base-load customer of the proposed Bunbury-to-Albany gas pipeline.
Grange chief executive Russell Clarke voiced his opposition to the idea, claiming it could force the Chinese-backed company to stick to a delayed schedule and increase its energy costs by tens of millions of dollars a year.
Mr Clarke said he had written to Mr Grylls and Premier Colin Barnett querying the proposal and whether the State Government could meet Grange's timeline, but he had yet to get a response.
Mr Grylls said Grange should prove itself a "good corporate citizen" and back the gas pipeline, arguing the project would be unlikely to come to fruition without a significant customer, such as Southdown, to underpin it.
"I've been quite clear with them that I think their project should be based around gas power," Mr Grylls said.
"This really gets into the greater questions about the development of the resources sector.
"I'm very determined to make sure that in the development of the resources sector there are some quid pro quos for the wider community."
Mr Grylls conceded that Grange's plans for a power line between Collie and Wellstead, which would be built by Western Power and cost taxpayers $380 million upfront in extra debt, was likely to be the quicker energy option for Southdown. But he disputed suggestions the gas pipeline would take significantly longer to build.
Mr Clarke said Grange risked missing its development "window" if it was forced to sign on as a customer of a pipeline that would cost it more and take longer to build than its proposed power line.

hallo,
