George Soros Current Investment Portfolio 2010
George Soros is the founder of Soros Fund Management. In 1970 he co-founded the Quantum Fund with Jim Rogers and Christoper Ink, which created the bulk of the Soros fortune. Legendary was his currency speculation against the British Bank of England:

On September 16, 1992, Soros's fund sold short more than USD 10 billion worth of pounds sterling, profiting from the Bank of England's reluctance to either raise its interest rates to levels comparable to those of other European Exchange Rate Mechanism countries or to float its currency. Finally, the Bank of England withdrew the currency from the European Exchange Rate Mechanism, devaluing the pound sterling. Soros earned an estimated worth of USD 1.1 billion in the process. He was dubbed "the man who broke the Bank of England." UK Treasury estimated the total costs of Black Wednesday at GBP 3.4 billion in 1997.

Here is a top 30 list of his investment positions as of September 30, 2010 according to the most recent form 13F-HR filed with the SEC on November 15, 2010.

Soros Fund Management LLC was valued at USD 4.77 billion.

During the quarter George Soros had 177 total positions. The sector allocation was as follows:

      Oil & Gas: 10.7%
      Health Care: 10.6%
      Technology: 8.5%
      Basic Materials: 7.1%
      Consumer Services: 4.7%
      Financials: 2.8%
      Industrials: 2.7%
      Consumer Goods: 1.4%
      Utilities: 0.2%

CenturyTel-Qwest deal wins U.S. antitrust approval

WASHINGTON, July 16 (Reuters) - CenturyTel Inc has won U.S. antitrust approval to buy Qwest Communications International Inc, the Federal Trade Commission said on Friday.

The $10.6 billion stock deal must also be approved by the Federal Communications Commission.

Qwest is the third-largest U.S. landline phone company, and CenturyTel is No. 4. The combination was on a list of approved deals released by the FTC.

The deal comes as more consumers unplug their home phones and go wireless, leaving CenturyTel and its rivals to turn to mergers to support their long-term viability.

CenturyTel, which is changing its name to CenturyLink, became the fourth-largest U.S. telephone company when it bought Embarq last year.

CenturyTel shares could rise by 20 pct -Barron's

NEW YORK, May 23 (Reuters) - CenturyTel Inc's shares may be poised to rise by about 20 percent in 2011 on the strength of its recent acquisitions, Barron's reported.

The business weekly said in its May 24 issue that CenturyTel, which does business as CenturyLink, has become a 'textbook consolidator' and has been buying rivals, 'cutting their costs and pumping out strong profits from them.'

The paper said CenturyTel's rising profits, rich cash flow, strong management and 8.8 percent dividend yield give it appeal.

Over the past 18 years, the company has made 12 major acquisitions, including its purchase last year of Embarq. It is in the process of acquiring Qwest Communications.

CenturyTel's shares closed at $33.25 on Friday on the New York Stock Exchange.
