Australia’s Woodside Is in Talks With Energy Transfer for US LNG Supplies
Lake Charles, which isn’t yet under construction, is one of the projects affected by the Biden administration’s pause on granting new LNG export approvals as it weighs environmental and economic concerns. Energy Transfer’s request to extend its existing permit for the plant was denied last year.Woodside Energy has been interested in a potential equity stake at Lake Charles, as well as other US projects, as part of an effort to expand its LNG supply portfolio, according to one person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to speak publicly about the talks.
A spokesperson for Energy Transfer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
A Woodside spokesman said the company does not comment on market speculation.
Buyers that have agreed to purchase LNG from Lake Charles include Shell Plc, China’s ENN Energy Holdings and South Korea’s SK Gas Ltd.
Woodside has contracts with Commonwealth LNG, another of the US projects whose approval is on ice.

Reactions to Australia's Woodside, Santos ending $52 bln merger talks
SYDNEY, Feb 7 (Reuters) - Australia's Woodside Energy (WDS.AX), opens new tab and Santos (STO.AX) said on Wednesday they had ended talks to create a possible A$80 billion ($52 billion) global oil and gas giant. Here is what investors and market analysts have said about the announcement: >> https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/reactions-australias…
Woodside torches Santos’ quick activist fix
Capped well.Kevin Gallagher, the boss of Australian oil-and-gas driller Santos, is back at square one. On Wednesday Woodside Energy said it had ended discussions with its smaller local rival over an A$80 billion ($52 billion) merger. A deal with a decent premium would have allowed Gallagher to claim he had overcome an underperforming share price. Counterpart Meg O’Neill’s rejection of the financial benefits of a tie-up, though, means he will have to take the slow route to get agitating investors off his back.
