A former Tesla Inc. (TSLA) employee and self-styled whistleblower has agreed to pay the electric auto maker $400,000 to settle the company’s lawsuit over claims that the former worker’s disclosures of confidential information caused its stock price to decline by $167 million.
As part of the settlement, the former employee also acknowledged that counterclaims raised in response to the lawsuit were funded by Tesla short seller Cable Car Capital LLC.
Tesla sued Martin Tripp, a former Nevada Gigafactory employee, in 2018, alleging he hacked a confidential manufacturing operating system, stole more than several gigabytes of data, and leaked trade secrets to a news reporter.
The company further alleged that Tripp lied to the media by asserting that punctured battery cells had been installed in certain Model 3 vehicles delivered to unsuspecting customers — a claim Tesla denies. Tesla also says Tripp exaggerated levels of scrap material used in its vehicle manufacturing process.
In addition to the larger settlement, Tripp has also agreed to pay Tesla $25,000 in sanctions based on Tripp’s violation of the Nevada district court’s protective order requiring him to refrain from disclosing information related to confidential documents. Tripp also agreed to destroy any documents he acquired through his work at Tesla.

At a time like this, when our stock is reaching new highs, it may seem as though spending carefully is not as important. This is definitely not true.
When looking at our actual profitability, it is very low at around 1% for the past year. Investors are giving us a lot of credit for future profits, but if, at any point, they conclude that’s not going to happen, our stock will immediately get crushed like a soufflé under a sledgehammer!
Much more important, in order to make our cars affordable, we have to get smarter about how we spend money. This a tough Game of Pennies – requiring thousands of good ideas to improve part cost, a factory process or simply the design, while increasing quality and capabilities. A great idea would be on that saves $5, but the vast majority are 50 cents here or 20 cents there.
In order to make the electric revolution happen we much make electric cars, stationary batteries and solar affordable to all.

ich habe den Eindruck, daß das in 2020 ggü. 2019 zugenommen hat und führe das (außer COVID-19) auf 2 Faktoren zurück:
1/ die Gamma Squeeze-Spielchen im Sommer
2/ das Fehlen der Shorties
2/sehe ich als dauerhafteren Faktor an. Mit den Shorties fehlt quasi das Korrektiv:

Er würde ja gerne. Aber er "muss" halt warten, bis die Regulierer es genehmigen. Es ist ganz genau (!) so wie die Kritiker es voraus sahen. Am Ende sind die Regulierer der Vorwand dafür, dass Tesla Technologisch in der Sackgasse steckt.
Deutschland will im Sommer 2021 Level 4 regulieren. In Kalifornien kann man sich schon heute Ausnahmegenehmigungen besorgen als Hersteller für autonomes Fahren. Warum macht Tesla das nicht einfach ?
